The four countries also vowed to coordinate in ensuring peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific, the statement said as was reported by Kyodo news agency.&nbsp;

The 'Quad' meeting took place amid China's growing expansionism ambitions in the Indo-Pacific, South China Sea and in eastern Ladakh.

PM Suga in his address said a free and open Indo-Pacific is "widely recognised by the international community as a vision of peace and prosperity of this region," and that his administration's basic policy is to "further continue advancing our members to this end."

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti -- as the day is referred to, Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi early morning paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat in New Delhi.

They also paid homage to former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary at Vijay Ghat.

There is much to learn from Mahatma Gandhi's life and thoughts, PM Modi said as he shared a short video of his remarks on the father of the nation.

"October 2nd is a holy and inspirational day for all of us. Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi) thoughts and ideals are more relevant today. Mahatma Gandhi-ji used to say his life is his message and he never tried to influence with his life but his life became an inspiration for others," he said in the short video which he shared on Twitter.

The city of Balasore in India's Odisha was buzzing today as a supersonic cruise missile roared through the skies. It is capable of travelling nearly three times faster than the speed of sound.

BrahMos has been in India's arsenal for a while. Now, the scientists at India's Defence Research and Development Organisation or DRDO have extended its range. The missile can now travel up to 400 kilometres. It has the potential to hit targets deep inside enemy lines. The BrahMos is part of a line up of three missiles that would serve as deterrents against China.

As the border stand-off continues, India is now positioning these missiles close to counter the Chinese build-up. The BrahMos, along with the Nirbhay and Akash are guarding India on the front. The Nirbhay has a range of 800 kilometres. While the Akash which is a surface-to-air missile can hit targets that are 40 kilometres away.

These missiles have very specific roles to play in case China decides to escalate the situation. Reports say the BrahMos can be used to target Chinese airstrips in Tibet and Xinjiang. It can also be used to take out a warship in the Indian Ocean.

BrahMos: Another deterrent against the ever-aggressive neighbour China
