However, with the fall of the Ashraf Ghani regime and the return the Taliban to power, the support the school had depended on has crumbled. The Afghan embassy in India, which had played a vital role in facilitating this support, suddenly found itself cut off from funding.

Mohammad Qais Malikzada, the deputy head of the Afghan community group in India, shared the grim situation facing the school and its dedicated staff.

"Earlier, our school was supported by the Indian government when our embassy was opened here," he explained. "There were a few NGOs that were supporting the school. But now, there is no support. Teachers have not gotten salary for the past six to seven months."

The school's financial troubles were compounded by allegations of corruption within the Afghan embassy.&nbsp;

"Due to corruption inside the embassy, our funding was stopped," Mohammad Qais continued, and added with deep sorrow, "Just two days back, we have closed the school. The owner of the school building has asked us to evacuate the building as we are unable to pay the rent."

It is a desperate situation, with the school's future hanging by a thread.&nbsp;

"We have temporarily placed the school items, like chairs and tables in a room," Mohammad Qais said.&nbsp;

"In order to move the school to a different location, we will need money. But for that, we would need a security deposit amount and rent for one month immediately. We have requested some NGOs as well for that and have sent them our proposal."

The Afghan community, left to fend for itself, reached out to the Afghan embassy for assistance, but their pleas fell on deaf ears.&nbsp;

"We requested the embassy. They denied. The salary they were receiving as per the proposal was more than 25000, but they were only giving 10,000 to the teachers. School rent was 1,10,000 which they have not given for three months. They have done all the corruption and left the embassy."

With their backs against the wall, the Afghan community turned to the Indian government and other NGOs for help.&nbsp;

"As social workers, we have no savings to put in order to give a place for the school. We can collect money by putting requests in our groups but that way we will only be able to secure rent for a month. After that, from where will we get money from the second month onwards? Even teachers will need a salary. They can only teach for free for a month. They will need money to support their families after that."

The Afghan community's message is clear. They need help to save their school, a lifeline for over 200 students, from sinking into oblivion.&nbsp;

A nuke-sniffer is an atmospheric collection aircraft, which is developed by Boeing for the US Air Force (USAF). It conducts air-sampling operations, supporting the Limited Nuclear Test Ban Treaty of 1963. The treaty is aimed at prohibiting any country from testing nuclear weapons in the atmosphere, outer space, and underwater.&nbsp;

Significance of the nuke sniffer?&nbsp;

The presence of a nuke sniffer is significant, especially along the coast of Karachi as it happened just a few days after the Dera Ghazi Khan blast in Pakistan and the nation's nuclear research site is in the neighbourhood.&nbsp;

A powerful explosion rocked the Dera Ghazi Khan region on Oct 6. Some hailing from Pakistan's Southern Punjab Province even claimed on social media that they heard a "sonic boom".&nbsp;

A few Pakistan-based media reports said that the sound from the explosion was heard as far as 25 kilometres away from Dera Ghazi Khan as it apparently reached the provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.&nbsp;

However, the reason behind the reported blast remains unknown. Several videos were circulated on social media platform X, which showed people vacating the area even as rescue teams and police personnel were moving around.&nbsp;

Posts on social media claimed that the nuclear-sniffer plane made its presence once again — just four days after it was first spotted.&nbsp;

The report claimed that during its second visit, its focus was especially on Karachi.&nbsp;

What did the authorities say about blast?&nbsp;

Pakistan authorities said that the sound of a loud explosion could be due to a sonic boom as there was no information of a bombing incident or an act of sabotage.&nbsp;

In a video statement on social media, DG Khan Commissioner Nasir Mehmood, said that an "explosion was heard in the city at noon" but all the security agencies and eyewitnesses refuted reports of any bomb blast or other incident.&nbsp;

"The departments concerned have said that no such incident took place in DG Khan or adjoining areas," he said.&nbsp;

The Commissioner also said that noise was likely caused by the "breakage of sound barrier", adding that such incidents were "normal".&nbsp;

In a separate statement, &nbsp;DG Khan Commissioner's spokesperson Mazhar Sheerani confirmed that a loud explosion was heard in the city.

"The departments concerned have presented an initial report after investigation," he said, further adding that there were no reports of any kind of terrorism, vandalism, accident, or damage as per Rescue 1122, police, sensitive institutions or the public.&nbsp;

He also said that there was a strong possibility of a sound barrier broken by a jet and also stated that no loss of life or any other damage was reported.&nbsp;

Chandrachud further recommended that the government take measures to prevent discrimination against LGBT individuals. These steps include&nbsp;the establishment of helplines and safe houses for those vulnerable to discrimination, along with discontinuing medical procedures aimed at altering gender identity or sexual orientation.

Supriyo Chakraborty, one of the petitioners who had been fighting for the recognition of his same-sex marriage with partner Abhay Dange, is disappointed after the Indian Supreme Court verdict on Tuesday (Oct 17).

The apex court refused to pass a ruling recognising same-sex marriages, saying it is the role of the legislature to do so, even as it endorsed several issues close to the hearts of the LGBTQ community.

Chakraborty told WION, "We are deeply disappointed by the judgment today. Though the court has reiterated that queer people have the right to form relationships, they stopped well short of legal recognition."

Despite the landmark decision to decriminalise homosexuality in 2018, the couple, Chakraborty and Dange, were still facing difficulties in registering their marriage and obtaining legal status.&nbsp;

Chakraborty said, "On a personal level, we feel proud that we fought this battle."&nbsp;

"Though we lost, lots of dinner table conversations were initiated because of this case. We remain hopeful that one day we will have full marriage equality."

But in the eyes of the law, their union remains unrecognised.&nbsp;

In an earlier conversation with WION, <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/strangers-in-the-eyes-of-law-wion-speaks-with-hyderabad-gay-couple-569191">Supriyo </a>had said, "Marriage brings with it a basket of rights, such as the right to take healthcare decisions for your spouse, right to inheritance, etc. We want access to those rights, and hence it is very important to get legal recognition for our marriage."&nbsp;

Their marriage, blending two different cultural backgrounds in a mesmerising Bengali-Punjabi fusion, showed their love for each other.&nbsp;

The wedding festivities included a beautiful Mehendi, haldi, and sangeet function, celebrating their union with the same joy and fervor as any other couple.

Dange, Chakraborty's partner, revealed some of the practical challenges they faced due to the lack of legal status.&nbsp;

The Supreme Court consolidated all related cases from different high courts and set a hearing date for March 13, 2023, instructing the government to respond by February 15. Furthermore, the court appointed a nodal counsel to assist both sides in the legal process.

The petitioners asserted broader constitutional entitlements based on the right to life, personal liberty, and dignity under Articles 14, 19, and 21, reported ANI.&nbsp;

In April 2023, religious and child rights bodies presented their perspectives.
