A mentally unstable 32-year-old man reportedly made a false call to the Maharashtra police control room, claiming there was a bomb in the west Indian city of Mumbai, reports said citing the police.

The authorities managed to track down the individual to Amravati, but no arrest was made due to his unstable mental state, reportedly confirmed by an official from the Amravati police.

Residing within the Raja Peth police station limits, the man dialed the 112 emergency helpline number of the state police on Saturday (Dec 30) evening, saying that a bomb blast&nbsp;was to take place in Mumbai, before abruptly ending the call, the official mentioned.

Further investigations revealed the call's origin from a mobile phone, allowing for immediate location tracing, he added.

The individual is currently undergoing psychiatric treatment, as per the official.

Responding promptly, the police conducted searches at various key public places and installations across the city. Fortunately, no explosive devices or suspicious items were discovered.

In a related incident on December 27, the Jaipur airport authorities received a threatening email, claiming an intent to blow up the airport.

Terminal manager Anurag Gupta subsequently complained to the Jaipur Airport police station.

Following the receipt of the threat email, the airport authority alerted the CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) and other security officials, leading to a thorough search operation at the airport.

Bhutan, enjoying unique and close relations with India, has triggered new concerns, of late. These emanate from reports about progress in border delimitation discussions between Bhutan and China, and China's keen interest in establishing diplomatic relations with Bhutan.

Doklam situated at the trijunction boundary of India, Bhutan, and China remains a big question mark, given the absence of dialogue among the three concerned parties. However, a major positive development was the visit of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck to India in November 2023. New Delhi conveyed “full support to the socio-economic development in Bhutan,” including the plan for a smart city at Gelephu and its road connectivity with Kokrajhar (Assam). But the meeting between PM Modi and President Muizzu on the sidelines of COP28 seemed a good beginning. The early months of 2024 will witness a calibrated Indian response. A series of high-level discussions may be on the cards.

India's anti-terror agency declared a significant breakthrough in identifying 43 Khalistan supporters linked to acts of vandalism against Indian high commissions in the UK, US, and Canada. The National Investigative Agency (NIA) attributed its success to an innovative approach to crowd-sourcing information.

In its comprehensive year-end review for 2023, the agency said it conducted more than 50 raids and searches.

It examined 80 individuals in India suspected of involvement in the conspiracy behind overseas attacks on Indian interests. In total, more than 1,000 raids were conducted.

As part of its achievements in 2023, the NIA boasted a remarkable conviction rate of 94.7 per cent.&nbsp;

With 625 arrests and the attachment of 240 assets valued at approximately ₹56 crore (about $7 million), the NIA&nbsp;continued to combat&nbsp;acts of terrorism, gang activities, drug smuggling, human trafficking and other criminal operations that pose threats to India's national interests.

"Pakistan has been requested to ensure the safety, security and welfare of all Indian and believed-to-be Indian civilian prisoners and fishermen, pending their release and repatriation to India," stated the MEA.

India reciprocated by sharing lists of 337 civilian prisoners and 81 fishermen in its custody, identified as Pakistani or believed to be Pakistani. Similarly, Pakistan provided lists of 47 civilian prisoners and 184 fishermen in its custody, presumed to be Indian.

"The Government of India has called for early release and repatriation of civilian prisoners, missing Indian defence personnel, and fishermen along with their boats, from Pakistan's custody," the statement emphasized.

The MEA highlighted successful efforts, mentioning that 2,639 Indian fishermen and 67 Indian civilian prisoners have been repatriated from Pakistan since 2014. This includes 478 Indian fishermen and 9 Indian civilian prisoners repatriated from Pakistan in 2023.

"India remains committed to addressing, on priority, all humanitarian matters, including those pertaining to prisoners and fishermen in each other's country", according to the MEA statement. New Delhi urged Islamabad to confirm the nationality status of 65 believed-to-be Pakistani prisoners, including fishermen, whose repatriation is pending due to a lack of confirmation from Pakistan.

"They were sent back from France. There was a rumour they had planned to enter the US illegally after landing in Nicaragua. In their statements, they told us they were going there as tourists. We are going into the details to find out who were the agents behind their trip," S P Rajkumar, Additional Director General of Police, CID - Crime and Railways, reportedly said.&nbsp;

The top IPS officer said,&nbsp;"We are verifying their documents to ascertain whether they used genuine or forged documents to proceed to Central America. We will also check their financial transactions because, ideally, they should not have paid more if they were going there as normal tourists and not with any other intention."&nbsp;

France plane row: Gujarat police grill 20 people who were on Nicaragua-bound flight

Three days after an explosion close to the Israeli Embassy, Delhi Police on Friday (Dec 29) registered an FIR against two unknown individuals.&nbsp;"Police has registered an FIR against unknown persons at the Tughlaq Road police station in the suspicious blast near the Israel Embassy December 26," ANI news agency reported,&nbsp;quoting Delhi Police.

FIR has been lodged under Section 3 of the Explosive Substances Act (punishment for causing an explosion likely to endanger life or property), media reports said citing a senior cop.&nbsp;The report was filed at Tughlak Road police station basis a complaint by a police officer.

This comes after reports citing sources said that the National Security Gaurd (NSG) will hand over a "highly sensitive" and "sealed" report to the Delhi Police.&nbsp;Earlier on Friday (Dec 29), the outgoing MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi in a presser said that the concerned agencies are looking into the matter.&nbsp;

So far in the investigation, Delhi police have been able to analyse the CCTV footage, initially focusing on 12 individuals who had visited the crime scene in the hours preceding the blast, as per reports citing sources.&nbsp;

After clearing civil department labourers, a porter, and a couple of more people, attention shifted to a man spotted exiting an autorickshaw around 2:30 pm, the reports said. The police traced the auto driver, who revealed that the man who "was not able to speak Hindi properly" had given Rs 150 fare to be dropped at Prithviraj Road.&nbsp;

FIR has been lodged under Section 3 of the Explosive Substances Act (punishment for causing an explosion likely to endanger life or property), media reports said citing a senior cop. The report was filed at Tughlak Road police station basis a complaint by a police officer. This comes after reports citing sources said that the National Security Gaurd (NSG) will hand over a "highly sensitive" and "sealed" report to the Delhi Police. Earlier on Friday (Dec 29), the outgoing MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi in a presser said that the concerned agencies are looking into the matter. How far the police is into the investigation?
