"The network appears to have primarily targeted Pakistanis and Indians; posts were in Urdu, Hindi, English, and Punjabi. Facebook reports that 70,000 accounts followed at least one of the Pages and 1.1 million users belonged to the Groups," it added.

The Border Security Force (BSF) has detected a tunnel just beneath the India-Pakistan international border fence in Jammu, officials said on Saturday.

The force has launched a major search operation in the area to look for other such hidden structures that aid infiltration even as it is analysing the spotted structure, they said.

BSF Director General Rakesh Asthana has directed his frontier commanders to ensure that the anti-infiltration grid is intact and there are no gaps along this front, they added.

The tunnel, about 50 metres from the border fence on the Indian side, was located by a BSF patrol on Thursday in the Samba sector of Jammu.

The force later examined the tunnel and found plastic sandbags on its mouth that had "Pakistani markings" on them, officials told PTI.

The tunnel, as per sources, has a depth of about 25 feet at the opening and the border force has launched a mega search operation along the IB in this area to detect any other such clandestine structure that can aid infiltrators to cross over from the Pakistan side and also help in smuggling of arms and narcotics.

About 8-10 plastic sandbags that have 'Karachi and Shakargarh' written on them have been recovered from the opening of the tunnel and the bags have a manufacturing and expiry date embossed on them indicating they were manufactured recently, officials said.

The nearest Pakistani border post is about 400 meters from the tunnel, they said.

The force has been conducting a mega 'anti-tunnel drive' in the IB areas of Jammu and other places after five armed infiltrators were recently killed by it along this front in Punjab.

The entire BSF formation deployed across the 3,300 km International Border that runs along Jammu, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat is on extra alert as there are multiple intelligence inputs of terrorists trying to breach the IB and infiltrate into India, officials said.

The border force is also looking at deploying ground penetrating radars to detect tunnels along this sensitive front which is prone to infiltration by terrorists from Pakistan and cross-border smuggling of arms and narcotics.

Tunnels have been detected by the BSF along the Jammu border front earlier too.&nbsp;

China on Sunday has launched the first of four most advanced warships it is building for Pakistan amid deepening military and strategic ties with Islamabad.

The Type 054A/P, a guided missile frigate, is the largest combat ship China has sold to a foreign navy.

China is building these four most sophisticated naval platforms at a Chinese shipyard in Shanghai. 
 
According to reports, each ship is worth 350 million dollars.

Activist Tanveer Ahmed was arrested and allegedly tortured by Pakistani agencies after he removed Pakistan's flag from a popular public place in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

According to news agency ANI, Ahmed had been on hunger strike, demanding the administration to remove all Pakistani flags from the area. When the local administration failed to do so, he went on to remove the flags himself.

In a video, Ahmed claimed he had removed a Pakistani flag from the area, adding he was being followed by the secret agencies. He then climbed on a wall and removed the second Pakistani flag hoisted at the square.

Pakistani agencies arrest activist after he brings down country's flag in PoK

Pakistan continues to engage with China and conduct military exercises -- and that too, not far away from India’s coastal borders.

According to a Forbes report, Pakistani Navy submarines were seen parked in the middle of Chinese Navy warships near Karachi.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) will hear a plea submitted by the federal government against Indian death-row prisoner Kulbhushan Jadhav's sentence on Monday.

The IHC on Thursday constituted a two-member bench to hear a review petition filed by the Pakistan government.

The bench, comprising IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah and his fellow judge Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, &nbsp;would take up the government plea on August 3, the Pakistani media, including the Geo News, reported.

In a unilateral move, Pakistan filed the petition in the IHC on Jul 22, seeking appointment of a "legal representative" for Jadhav.

However, the main parties, including the government of India, were not consulted ahead of the filing of the application by the Ministry of Law and Justice under an ordinance which was enacted on May 20.

Under the 'International Court of Justice Review and Reconsideration Ordinance 2020', which was enacted on May 20, a petition for the review of a military court's decision can be made to Islamabad High Court through an application within 60 days of its promulgation.

The ordinance was approved by the parliament this week.

Jadhav, the 50-year-old retired Indian Navy officer, was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court on charges of espionage and terrorism in April 2017. India approached the ICJ against Pakistan for denial of consular access to Jadhav and challenging the death sentence.

The Hague-based ICJ ruled in July 2019 that Pakistan must undertake an "effective review and reconsideration" of the conviction and sentence of Jadhav and also to grant consular access to India without further delay.

The Pakistan government, in the petition, has asked the IHC to appoint a legal representative for Jadhav so that Pakistan can fulfil its responsibility to see to the implementation of the ICJ's decision, local media reports said.

Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Aisha Farooqui last week said that the "necessary steps" have been taken to implement the verdict of the ICJ.

The Pakistan government has claimed that Jadhav refused to file a review petition or an application to reconsider the verdict.

In New Delhi, External affairs ministry spokesperson Anurag Srivastava last week said Pakistan has once again exposed its "farcical" approach by denying available legal remedies to Jadhav against his death sentence which is also in contravention of the ICJ verdict, and asserted that it will explore further options in the case.

Srivastava said Pakistan has blocked all the avenues for an effective remedy available to India in the case, while noting that New Delhi has so far requested consular access to Jadhav for 12 times over the past one year.

"The whole exercise of not providing documents related to the case even after repeated requests, not providing an unimpeded consular access and some reported unilateral action of approaching the High Court on part of Pakistan again exposes the farcical nature of Pakistan's approach," he said.

Nasir said that some 10,000 books taught at public and private schools have been reviewed by 30 committees.

"Over 100 of them including those published by Oxford, Cambridge, Link International Pakistan, Paragon Books, have been found containing objectionable content, therefore, they are banned on the recommendation of these committees.

"The banned books had blasphemous and anti-Pakistan content and missing of (Pakistan-occupied) Kashmir from the Pakistani map," he said.

The board has issued an order to confiscate these books from the market.

"The government will not tolerate this objectionable content to be taught to Pakistani children. We will conduct a complete inspection of other textbooks within the next six months," he said.

It is unfortunate that Pakistan, a sponsor of cross border terrorism, and the globally acknowledged fountain head and pernicious cradle of terrorism, has once again used this forum for propagating its discredited narrative and making mischievous and scurrilous allegations against India," Singhvi said.

While the whole world, including India, has undertaken proactive steps to promote human rights and build resilience against terrorism, Pakistan has main-streamed terrorism as statecraft, Singhvi added.

"It continues to provide military, financial and logistical support to cross border terrorism but has denied the victims of terrorism their fundamental right to justice by not acting on the concrete evidences shared by India on several terrorist attacks, including 1993 Mumbai Serial Blasts and 2008 Mumbai Terror Attack. The perpetrators of these heinous crimes have been proscribed by the UNSC 1267 committee but continue to enjoy state hospitality in Pakistan," Singhvi, Joint Secretary for Counter-Terrorism in the Ministry of External Affairs, said.

Singhvi also said Pakistan's attempt to "masquerade" as a promoter of human rights and egalitarianism is "farcical" considering its record of systemic persecution of its minorities, including Christians, Ahmadiyyas, Sikhs, Hindus, Shias, Pashtuns, Hazaras, Sindhis, and Balochis. Through draconian blasphemy laws, forced conversions and marriages and extrajudicial killings.

India reiterates that despite the continued proxy war and state sponsored cross border terrorism raged by Pakistan against the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the people of Jammu and Kashmir have reposed their faith in the Indian democracy."

Singhvi said that before preaching to others, Pakistan must remember that terrorism is the worst form of human rights abuse.

"The world doesn't need lessons on human rights from a country whose own citizens as well as minorities have never enjoyed true democracy. The least Pakistan could do, therefore, is to look into its own sorry state of affairs and put its house in order before pointing fingers at others and spewing venom against the democratically elected Indian Government and its leaders."

Singhvi told the UN forum that India has a civilisation ethos of inclusiveness, tolerance and acceptance and the philosophy of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam', the world is one family, permeates each aspect of Indian life.

"Our cultural, linguistic and religious diversity is our strength and our Constitution guarantees equal rights to all faiths and creeds. Pakistan may repeat its Goebbelsian lies, a thousand times, but it cannot change the fact that Minorities feel secure and empowered in India."

He further said that terrorism is the grossest affront to the enjoyment of the inalienable human right to life and to live in peace and security. It poses a serious threat to economic and social development, undermines democracy and jeopardises the rule of law and is an attack against freedom of thought, expression and association.

"While acts of terrorism violate the rights of individual victims, it also deeply affects the enjoyment of a range of rights by the families of the victims and society as a whole," he said, adding that building resilience of the society against terrorism forms an integral part of any counter terrorism strategy.

"There is a need to foster a society in which individuals and communities are able to counter the spread of terrorist ideologies and challenge those who espouse them. This requires robust partnerships and cooperation with citizens and local communities."

Noting that any terrorist incident disproportionately affects the human rights of women, girls and children, he said gender and age sensitive measures need to be incorporated in addressing the short, medium and long-term needs of the most vulnerable groups of victims of terrorism.

Protection of the rights of children and young persons, especially their right to education is also critical to prevent radicalisation and indoctrination of terrorist ideologies, he said.

"While the world is coming together to battle the pandemic, it is unfortunate that Pakistan, a state which sponsors cross border terrorism, continues to use every opportunity to peddle false narratives and make baseless, malicious and egregious allegations against India and interfere in our internal affairs," he said.

"The international community should call upon Pakistan to take sustained, verifiable and irreversible actions against terror outfits operating on the territory under its control. Pakistan must introspect upon why it is universally acknowledged as the international epicentre of terrorism and the best safe haven for terrorists," Singhvi said.

Slamming Islamabad for raising India's domestic policies and internal affairs, including the issue of Jammu and Kashmir, he said even as Pakistan provides shelter and support to terrorists, it continues to peddle false and motivated narrative on the situation in the Union Territory.

"It is seeking to portray its military, financial, logistical support to cross border terrorism against India as a freedom struggle. It is also peddling misinformation about India's domestic legislation and policies," he said.

If Pakistan wishes to be taken seriously in the fight against the "even more destructive virus of terrorism," it must look inward and live up to its commitments and abandon its "divisionary tactics," he said.

While Pakistan conveniently blames others, it "turns a blind eye" to the human rights violations in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and territories of Jammu and Kashmir illegally occupied by it, he said.

"It has also systematically and consistently discriminated against its religious and cultural minorities," Singhvi said, adding that reports of forced conversions, attacks on religious places of minorities, including Ahmedias, Christians, Hindus and Sikhs in Pakistan are well known to the world.

"India is the largest democracy in the world where all faiths receive equal treatment, as mandated by the Constitution. Members from minority communities have held high offices in India, including presidents and prime ministers. Pakistan, being a theocratic State, may find it difficult to fathom India's secular credentials.

"The least Pakistan could do" is to look into its own sorry state of affairs and put its house in order before pointing fingers at others and spewing venom against the democratically-elected Indian government and its leaders," he said.

He also slammed Pakistan's "ludicrous" statement claiming credit for eliminating Al Qaeda from its territory, saying it is "indeed ironic", considering its leader Osama bin Laden, "has recently been glorified as a martyr, by none other than the Prime Minister of Pakistan on the floor of their Parliament".This is a chilling reminder of the patronage that the international terrorists receive in Pakistan."

He said Prime Minister Imran Khan had publicly acknowledged the presence of up to 40,000 terrorists in Pakistan and that terrorists from there have attacked neighbouring countries.

He also cited a recent report by the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team of the UN Security Council stating that around 6,500 Pakistani terrorists belonging to Jaish-i-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba are operating in Afghanistan.

"Pakistan's role as epicentre of terrorism has been well documented by numerous international organisations" including the UN and the Financial Action Task Force.

"Unlike Pakistan, India does not make any distinction between terrorists and invariably condemns terror attacks anywhere in the world," including the recent Karachi attack, he said.

Recalling the 2008 attack on the Indian embassy in Kabul by a Pakistan-supported terrorist group that claimed several lives, he said, "it is very unfortunate that a country which perpetrated terrorist attacks in Mumbai (2008), Pathankot (2016), Uri and Pulwama is now preaching to the world community."

He said India continues to face the scourge of state-sponsored cross border terrorism. 
"Terrorists have made innumerable attempts to infiltrate into our country from their safe abodes across the border to carry out attacks and have even used unmanned aerial systems to smuggle weapons across our borders," he said.

Globally, there have been "malevolent attempts" by terrorists to exploit the distress caused by lockdowns and disturb cohesiveness of societies, he said, adding that the increased presence of people online has been targeted by terrorists to spread misinformation through hate speeches, fake news and doctored videos.

Terror groups have also exhorted supporters to target security forces and health workers and proscribed terrorist outfits are collecting funds under the garb of charitable activities to finance terror.

"As the world grapples with COVID-19, it is important to augment international legal frameworks to coherently fight against terrorists, whose disruptive activities continued and, in fact, increased during the pandemic," he said.

Pakistan on Wednesday claimed that Kulbhushan Jadhav had refused review petition that was offered to him by their government. He instead has requested for a mercy petition, it added.

Pakistan's Additional Attorney General Ahmed Irfan said, "Kulbhushan Jadhav was invited to file a petition for review and reconsideration of his sentence and conviction. He exercised his legal right, and refused to file a petition for review."

On May 20, Pakistan had enacted an ordinance to implement the International Court of Justice's (ICJ) order under which an appeal can be made to the Islamabad High Court within two months. Jadhav was given a chance to file a review petition on June 17.

Pakistan even claimed that the Indian High Commission was "repeatedly" invited to file a review at the Islamabad High Court and initiate the review and reconsideration process.

“We have asked before, and are demanding again, he needs to be handed over,” the official dealing with regional security issues said.

Some 248 Indian nationals stranded in Pakistan due to the coronavirus lockdown returned to the country through the Wagah Border on Thursday. Around 500 more Indians stranded in the country will return to their country in the next couple of days. Most of the people returned to their homes on Thursday are from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh. The Wagah Border would remain open for three days (June 25 to Jun 27) to facilitate the return of the stranded Indian nationals. Of the stranded Indian nationals, 300 were staying in Sindh, 80 in Lahore, 15 in Nankana Sahib, 12 in Islamabad and remaining in other parts of the country. The Indian nationals had come to Pakistan to meet their relatives and perform religious rites. A press release from the Indian mission in Pakistan had earlier said, "Please make necessary arrangements to reach at the Wagah-Attari border in time for your repatriation." Friday will see another 250 nationals entering the country -- out of which 152 are from Jammu and Kashmir, 70 from Gujarat and 28 from Maharashtra. These include 33 from Maharastra, 46 from Uttar Pradesh, 38 from Rajasthan, 36 from Punjab, 26 from Delhi, 15 from Madhya Pradesh, 14 from Haryana, 11 from Telangana, six from Karnataka, six from Chandigarh, five from Chattisgarh, four from Tamil Nadu, three from West Bengal, two each from Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, and one from Bihar. Passengers from various states will be quarantined in their home states upon arrival. (with inputs from PTI)
