At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 84.32 against the greenback, then it fell further to an all-time low of 84.37, registering a rise of 5 paise over its previous close.

On Thursday, the rupee slipped 1 paisa to close at a fresh lifetime low of 84.32 against the US dollar.

“The spotlight will now be on the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and how effectively it navigates this shifting currency landscape. In such a dynamic environment, only those who adapt swiftly will thrive in the market ahead,” CR Forex Advisors Managing Director Amit Pabari said.

In its latest monetary policy announcement, the US Fed reduced its benchmark rate by 0.25 basis points to a target range of 4.5 per cent-4.75 per cent.

In its accompanying statement, the Fed adopted a neutral-to-dovish tone, acknowledging balanced risks in inflation and employment.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading marginally higher by 0.02 per cent at 104.53.

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, fell 0.65 per cent to USD 75.14 per barrel in futures trade.

“In this dynamic environment, volatility in the USD/INR pair is expected, with the RBI likely maintaining a range between 83.80 and 84.50. If the dollar’s momentum stalls amid future Fed rate cuts and weakening investor confidence, the rupee could gradually strengthen toward the lower end of this range,” Pabari said.

On the domestic equity market front, Sensex declined 14.23 points, or 0.02 per cent, to 79,527.56 points. The Nifty fell 15.45 points, or 0.06 per cent, to 24,183.90 points.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital markets on Thursday, as they offloaded shares worth Rs 4,888.77 crore, according to exchange data.

How Indian Army dealt a deadly blow to terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Akhnoor by using AI

Twelve people died and around 30 other passengers got injured after a private bus crashed into the wing wall of a flyover in Rajasthan's Sikar district on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

District Superintendent of Police, Bhuvan Bhushan Yadav, said a private bus coming from Salasar to Laxmangarh rammed into a part of the flyover in Laxmangarh while taking a turn. According to the police, the bus was speeding and full&nbsp;of passengers due to which the driver lost control and the vehicle rammed into the wing wall of the flyover.

The right side of the bus got completely crushed and the driver died on the spot. A crane was brought to take out the passengers stuck inside, the officials&nbsp;said.

Sikar IGP Satyendra Singh said some of the injured have been referred to Jaipur and others are undergoing treatment at SK Hospital.

Twelve people have died in the accident, he said.

Vinita, Seema, Kiran Kanwar, Kamla, Banarasi Meghwal, Aditya Meghwal and Pramod Singh are among those killed in the accident. Efforts are on to identify the rest, the police said.

A team of doctors and administration has taken control of the situation and all arrangements have been made. All passengers are local residents. Their family members have been informed, the IGP said.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has expressed grief over the accident.

Twelve people died and around 30 other passengers got injured after a private bus crashed into the wing wall of a flyover in Rajasthan's Sikar district on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

District Superintendent of Police, Bhuvan Bhushan Yadav, said a private bus coming from Salasar to Laxmangarh rammed into a part of the flyover in Laxmangarh while taking a turn. According to the police, the bus was speeding and full of passengers due to which the driver lost control and the vehicle rammed into the wing wall of the flyover. The right side of the bus got completely crushed and the driver died on the spot. A crane was brought to take out the passengers stuck inside, the officials said. Sikar IGP Satyendra Singh said some of the injured have been referred to Jaipur and others are undergoing treatment at SK Hospital. Twelve people have died in the accident, he said. Vinita, Seema, Kiran Kanwar, Kamla, Banarasi Meghwal, Aditya Meghwal and Pramod Singh are among those killed in the accident. Efforts are on to identify the rest, the police said. A team of doctors and administration has taken control of the situation and all arrangements have been made. All passengers are local residents. Their family members have been informed, the IGP said. But the ground reality is completely different as hundreds of tourists are arriving in the valley to witness the changing colours of Chinar trees during the autumn.

The tourists continue to flock to destinations like Gulmarg and Sonmarg even after the two attacks that took place close to these tourist sites in which eleven people were killed. But the tourists are unfazed by these attacks. As per recent data, every day around 7-8 thousand people arrive in Kashmir and among them 3-4 thousand are tourists.

"I love it here, I am very happy to visit here and Kashmir is very lovely. It's a paradise on earth. We are feeling very safe and there seems to be no problem or issue with the situation. Kashmir is very pretty, and I would tell all my friends to come and visit Kashmir,"&nbsp;said Shafaq Khan, a tourist.

Local tourism seems resilient despite the attacks. A huge number of tourists coming during the festival season are enjoying the world-famous Dal Lake Shikara rides along with their families. The tourism stakeholders are expecting winter tourism to pick up as it has been in the last few years. Kashmir Valley is expecting record-breaking tourist arrivals this winter season.

"Last few years we have seen a great footfall of tourists in the valley, the summer season was great, and we had a lot of tourists and there was a little break but it's due to holidays. We have Diwali coming up and people will be travelling around that time. We are getting a lot of queries. We have four seasons, and Kashmir has become an all-year destination. We are hopeful winters will be great as well. We are also making sure that tourists explore other places as well," said Manzoor Pakhtoon, a person from the Houseboat Association.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner C V Anand told news agency PTI, “Reliable information has been placed before us that several organisations/parties are trying to create disturbances affecting public peace and order in Hyderabad city, by resorting to dharnas and protests.”

To ensure order and stability in Hyderabad, a police notification stated that all individuals and groups are prohibited from engaging in activities that could disrupt public peace. "Individual/groups of individuals are prohibited from making any speeches, gestures or displaying pictures, any symbols, placards, flags, and any type of message of electronic form etc., which is likely to cause disturbance to public peace and order in the limits of Hyderabad and Secunderabad," it read.

The public is warned that any breach of these orders, especially around sensitive locations such as the Secretariat, will result in legal consequences under applicable laws.

These orders are in effect from 6 pm&nbsp;on October 27 until 6 pm on November 28. Police personnel, military members on duty, authorised funeral processions, flying squads from the education department, and any exempted individuals or groups have been excluded from these restrictions.

The orders come as the city prepares for the upcoming festival season, including Dhanteras, Chhoti Diwali, Diwali, and Goverdhan Puja.

The move has faced opposition from the Bharatiya Janata Party, which claims the ruling Congress government is targeting Hindu festivals. Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, Andhra Pradesh BJP Vice President, expressed criticism on X, stating, "First, #Congress imposed Section 144 in Hyderabad and Secunderabad ahead of Diwali, restricting gatherings and movement. Then, Congress's official handles mocked Hindus by wishing them Diwali in this way. Although they have deleted the post, it has revealed their true intentions and hatred for Hindus."

Shanthikumar, treasurer of BJP's Telangana unit, echoed these sentiments, remarking, “Once again, Hindus are being restricted from celebrating their festivals freely in Congress-ruled #Telangana. Just before Diwali, Section 144 is imposed in Hyderabad, curbing gatherings and processions.”

The storm is going to affect millions of people in the two states, with authorities issuing a ‘red warning’ (take action) for heavy to very heavy rainfall in seven districts: Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, Jajpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur.

The landfall is expected early Friday (Oct 25) between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra Port in Odisha, with wind speeds reaching up to 120 km/h.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said around 300,000 people living in ‘danger zone’ have been moved to shelters. Coastal regions in the state were already facing heavy rain&nbsp;since Thursday morning as the cyclone moved closer to the shores.

Heavy rainfall is also expected in neighbouring Jharkhand state, where an orange alert has been issued for the Kolhan region (West Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharswan and East Singhbhum districts).

West Bengal has also evacuated more than 200,000 people ahead of the landfall.

Earlier, flights were suspended to and from major cities of both states.

Teams from the NDRF in both Odisha and West Bengal have been placed on standby. Additionally, rescue and relief teams from the Army, Navy, and Coast Guard are on high alert, reported news agency ANI.

Officials said Uttar Pradesh Home Secretary Sanjeev Gupta and Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash have reached the spot to take stock of the situation.

“The situation is being brought under control and anti-social elements are being chased away,” Superintendent of Police (SP) of Bahraich Vrinda Shukla told PTI Videos.

Reacting to the violence, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya posted on X, “Any conspiracy to disturb the peace and harmony of Uttar Pradesh will not be unsuccessful. Those who protect the rioters are once again becoming active, but we have to be cautious and vigilant.” “The bright future of the state will not be allowed to be tampered with,” he said in Hindi.

Maurya asserted that the culprits would be given strict punishment and victims would get complete justice. “I appeal to all citizens to maintain peace and patience,” he posted.

Senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said in a post on X in Hindi: “The news of violence in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, and the inaction of the administration are extremely sad and unfortunate.” 
 
“I appeal to the chief minister of the state and the state administration to take immediate action, take the public into confidence and stop the violence. Strictest action should be taken against the culprits. My humble appeal to the public, please do not take the law into your own hands,” she added.

Earlier in the day, SP Vrinda Shukla said 25 to 30 people had been detained and efforts were on to bring normalcy in the affected areas.

She added that an adequate police force has been deployed.

BJP MLA from Mahsi, Sureshwar Singh told PTI, “We are moving ahead with the last rites of the deceased person. Barely four months ago, he got married. The family members of the deceased demand that cases should be registered against those responsible and action should be initiated against them. The SHO and the in-charge of the police outpost should be suspended.”&nbsp;

Sunday’s violence was triggered by a disagreement over music being blasted from loudspeakers while the procession was passing through the area.

Ram Gopal Mishra of Rehua Mansoor village was walking in the procession when he suffered a bullet wound. He was rushed to hospital where he died during treatment, one of his family members said.

The area was fraught with communal tension after the killing. Similar processions were cancelled in Fakharpur town and some other places.

Three bullets struck Siddique in the stomach and chest, according to reports. He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving.

Authorities have arrested two individuals in connection with the shooting.&nbsp;Maharashtra&nbsp;Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said, "Two people have been arrested, one from Uttar Pradesh and one from Haryana, while another is on the run. I have asked the Mumbai police to take&nbsp;strict&nbsp;action."

Recently, Siddique’s security had been upgraded to the ‘Y’ category following a threat he received a few weeks prior, media reports suggest.

Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Anand Dubey questioned the government’s ability to protect citizens. He said, "If former MLAs are not safe in our city Mumbai, if leaders of the government are not safe then how will this government protect the common people? If they cannot keep their MLAs and former ministers safe then Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis should resign. He has no right to continue as the Home Minister. Eknath Shinde has no right to continue as the CM of the state."

Earlier this year, Siddique, who had been a Congress member, left the party to join the Ajit Pawar-led faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

In August, Siddique’s son Zeeshan, a Congress MLA, was expelled from the party, following revelations that seven Congress MLAs had cross-voted during the biennial elections to the Legislative Council.

Siddique had previously served three consecutive terms as an MLA in 1999, 2004, and 2009, and had also held the position of Minister of State for Food &amp;&nbsp;Civil Supplies, Labour, and FDA.

The woman alleged Sharma touched her inappropriately when she was asleep,” said a police officer from the women's police station at Meenambakkam airport, according to the Hindustan Times, requesting anonymity. The body of a missing Indian soldier was recovered in South Kashmir's Anantnag district on Tuesday evening (Oct 8). According to media reports, the soldier’s body was found in Sanglan forest area after he went missing from Anantnag. The body of the Territorial Army officer was found riddled with bullets, according to news agency ANI.

The officer has been identified as Hilal Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Mukdhampora Nowgam in Anantnag.

Earlier, local police and army had launched a massive search operation to locate Hilal.

Officials said that investigation is underway to find out how he went missing and who is behind his killing.

Datta also emphasised that the hunger strike is intended to amplify the voices of the junior doctors who have been on strike for weeks, advocating for better working conditions, enhanced safety protocols, and other essential reforms.

The doctors’ association has also called on healthcare workers across the country to participate in the strike, to highlight unity among medical professionals in their fight for fair treatment and improved conditions, FAIMA said in a statement.

Following a day of widespread protests, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the rape and murder case in Kultali would be filed under the POCSO Act, with a promise to bring the perpetrators to justice within three months. "I want the police to register the Kultali case under the POCSO Act and ensure that the culprits get capital punishment within three months... Crime is crime; there is no religion or caste. Strong action should be taken against the criminals," Banerjee said, as per PTI's report. Banerjee further emphasised that media trials in such cases should be avoided, as they could hinder the investigation process. Protests erupted across South 24 Parganas on Sunday, with the public demanding strict punishment for the offenders. Some locals burned a police post near the scene of the crime. Meanwhile, the police in West Bengal have detained a suspect in connection to the case. Her family filed a complaint after she failed to return home by night. "Yesterday itself, we started the investigation. Our government is very serious about such cases, and the matter is being investigated," South 24 Parganas superintendent of police, Palash Chandra Dhali said. However, the victim's aunt accused the police of negligence, claiming that they ignored the family’s calls for help. She also said that the girl’s body showed severe injuries, including broken limbs. "The body (of the girl) has several injuries on the body; limbs have been broken...She went missing while coming back from the tuition...Her father tried to find her everywhere, but when he was not able to find her, he went to the police station, but the police refused to listen to him and asked him to go to the Jaynagar police station.
