The Indian Men's Hockey Team will begin its FIH Hockey Pro League 2022/23 campaign against New Zealand and Spain as the International Hockey Federation (FIH) announced the schedule of the fourth edition of the tournament on Thursday.

India will host New Zealand and Spain in the tournament opener between October 28 and November 6 later this year.

The season, which will run from October 28, 2022, to July 5, 2023, will be divided into a series of date blocks, agreed by all parties, to assist with international and domestic competition planning, within which "mini-tournaments" will be played where several teams will gather in one venue to play two matches against each other.

This move will have a major positive impact on players'&nbsp;welfare and the environment, thanks to a substantial reduction in the amount of travel needed for each team and the officials.

As far as our draw is concerned, it is well spaced out and provides us with practice opportunity before the 2023 World Cup."

In March 2023, India will play Germany and Australia at home. They will face off against Germany on March 10 and after a day's break they will take on Australia in their first match of the two-legged tie.

Vice-captain Harmanpreet Singh scored a brace as Olympic bronze-medallists India defeated arch-rivals Pakistan 3-1 to register their second consecutive win and virtually qualify for the semifinals of the Asian Champions Trophy men's hockey tournament here on Friday.

Harmanpreet (8th, 53rd minutes) converted two penalty corners, while comeback-man Akashdeep Singh, who couldn't make the Tokyo Olympics squad, found the net from a field effort in the 42nd minute for his second goal of the tournament. 
Pakistan's lone goal was scored by Junaid Manzoor in the 45th minute.

It was India's second win in the tournament after their 9-0 drubbing of hosts Bangladesh, while Pakistan are still winless, having drawn goal-less against Japan in their opening match.

India had earlier drawn 2-2 against Korea in their tournament opener.

Leading 1-0 at half time, the Indians kept up the pressure on the Pakistan goal and increased their lead in the 42nd minute when Akashdeep slapped in Sumit's drive from the left flank with a reverse hit.

But the fighting Pakistanis didn't give up hope and upped their game from here on, reducing the margin 27 seconds from the end of the third quarter through Manzoor's diving deflection from Abdul Rana's pass.

If the first three quarters belonged to India, Pakistan gave Manpreet and his men a run for their money in the final quarter, which produced end-to-end enthralling hockey.

Pumped up by the goal, Pakistan went on the offensive and secured their first penalty corner of the tournament in the 47th minute, which was rejected after India asked for the referral.

Pakistan didn't lose hope and continued to press hard and secured two more penalty corners in quick succession but young Indian custodian Suraj Karkera made two brilliant saves to keep his side's lead intact.

In between, India secured their second penalty corner and once again Harmanpreet was precision personified with his drag-flick.

A united India, "on and off the field", has the capability to recreate history and lift the men's hockey World Cup after 43 years, feels the country's lone World Cup-winning captain Ajitpal Singh.

India's only World Cup triumph came in the third edition of the championships way back in 1975, after a 2-1 win over Pakistan at Kuala Lumpur.

Since then the eight-time Olympic champions' best performance at the World Cup was fifth-place finishes at the 1982 and 1994 editions.

But this time around Ajitpal has high hopes from Harendra Singh's brigade and feels the world ranked fifth Indian team can do wonders if they play to its potential and remain united throughout the event.

"Our team is looking sharper, more combined, fitter. They have now learnt how top handle hockey on turf. But the team which plays together can achieve anything," Ajitpal said on the sidelines of the release of a curated coffee table book titled 'The Illustrated History of Indian Hockey: A Saga of Triumph, Pain and Dreams, authored by senior sports journalist V Krishnaswamy.

"But for that we will have to remain united on and off the field. Our target should be nothing other than winning the Cup," he added.

"It won't be easy as all the top hockey playing nations of the world will be vying for the Cup but India has a balanced team with a mixture of youth and experience," he said.

"We have the capability to play in the semis or the final but for that we should play like champions.

"Definitely there will be pressure but the team is looking confident. We are now mentally much stronger and we should play tough hockey against any team," he added.

The men's hockey World Cup will be played in Bhubaneswar from November 28 to December 16. Hosts India will open their campaign against South Africa on the opening day of the event.

The turf was completely waterlogged because of the heavy showers and after discussion with both the coaches of India and Pakistan, the tournament director decided to call off the match and declare both the teams as joint winners.&nbsp;

India, thus, remained unbeaten in the tournament having topped the round robin stages with 13 points, courtesy four wins and a draw out of their five games.&nbsp;

Pakistan ended the round robin stages on the second spot with 10 points.&nbsp;

India had earlier defeated Pakistan 3-1 in the round robin stage. 
It was both India and Pakistan's last international outing before the season-ending FIH men's World Cup to be held in Bhubaneswar from November 28 to December 16.&nbsp;

Rupinder Pal Singh scored the first two goals in a dominant performance in the bronze medal play-off

After suffering defeat from Malaysia, a spirited India bounced back and beat New Zealand 4-0 to end their campaign at the 26th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup Tournament 2017 with a Bronze Medal here on Saturday. Double penalty corners converted by Rupinder Pal Singh (17 and 27') and splendid fields goal by S.V Sunil (48'), Talwinder Singh (60') helped India to find success against the dangerous Black Sticks. India made a dominating start, creating plenty of opportunities in the first quarter putting New Zealand on the backfoot. Only a minute into the game, India earned their first PC when forward SV Sunil found Kane Russell's foot in the circle, but Harmanpreet Singh's flick hit New Zealand's first rusher giving India another opportunity at a PC. The Black Sticks' defence, however, denied India an early lead. Another chance was lost when an impulsive Mandeep Singh on the counter attack raced into the striking circle and took a shot on goal but was saved by an alert Richard Joyce. With three minutes to go for the first hooter, Manpreet Singh set-up a perfect shot on goal with Mandeep perfectly poised to take the shot, but unfortunately the youngster couldn't connect the ball to get a deflection. Going into the second quarter in a stalemate, Akashdeep Singh was quick to win India their third PC with some good dribbling skills in the circle. Rupinder Pal Singh ensured this chance didn't go begging with a well-timed flick sending it low on the right to beat Joyce and give India a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute. India kept the Malaysian spectators entertained with a thrilling charge made by Mandeep Singh who raced into the striking circle only to assist Akashdeep with a square pass, though they couldn't convert a field goal, the attempt helped India win their fourth PC. Joyce made a good attempt to save Rupinder's flick but the umpire awarded India another PC due to dangerous play. This time Rupinder used similar tactic of sending the ball low on the right that worked like magic, beating Joyce yet again, clinching India a splendid 2-0 lead in the 27th minute. This was Rupinder Pal Singh's third goal in the tournament. New Zealand made desperate attempts at coming back into the game in the third quarter but India continued to impress with their attack trying to find space for a third goal. Sultan Azlan Shah Cup: India beat NZ to win bronze

It was Mandeep Singh who stole the match from Japan with an incredible hat-trick of goals to ensure the&nbsp;<a href="http://aninews.in/keysearch/keyword-search/india-men-039-s-hockey-team.html">India men&#39;s hockey team&nbsp;</a>a sensational 4-3 win in a nerve-gripping fourth robin-round encounter here at the 26th Sultan Azlan Shah Tournament 2017 on Wednesday.

While Kazuma Murata (10&#39;), Heita Yoshihara (43&#39;), Genki Mitani (45&#39;) scored to give Japan the edge over India, it was goals by Rupinder Pal Singh (6&#39;) and Mandeep Singh (45&#39;, 51&#39; and 58&#39;) that clinched a winner for India.

Mandeep Singh became only the third player in the tournament after Australia&#39;s Trent Mitton and Tom Craig to score a hat-trick.

There was plenty of action in the first 15 minutes of the match with India putting Japan on the backfoot by constantly attacking them and making space in the striking circle. It was defender Rupinder Pal Singh who showed innovative dribbling skills to penetrate the circle and take a shot on goal in the initial minutes of the first quarter but he was slightly off the target with the shot going wide. But he made-up almost immediately when Talwinder Singh, playing his 50th international match today, won India their first penalty corner.

Rupinder Pal Singh improvised on the injection by Sardar Singh to fire the ball into the top left of the goal giving Japan keeper Suguro Shimmoto little chance to save. The 6th minute goal ensured India a 1-0 lead.

But Japan were quick to hit back when Masaki Ohashi set-up a goal with a square pass to Kazuma Murata who deflected the ball past India keeper Akash Chikte.

India had an opportunity to regain lead when they won a penalty corner in the dying minutes of the first quarter, but Harmanpreet Singh&#39;s flick rebounded off a Japan defender. Though Affan Yousuf found the rebound and took a shot on goal, which went wide.

After going into the first break in a 1-1 stalemate, India dominated with ball possession to keep up the pressure on Japan in the second quarter. Though a penalty corner was won by India in the 26th minute, Rupinder Pal Singh&#39;s flick went wide, denying India a 2-1 lead.

India were quick to get off the blocks in the third quarter. Defender Rupinder Pal Singh did well to assist forward SV Sunil who made space in the circle to attempt a field goal but the Japan defenders made the task tough for the experienced Sunil who couldn&#39;t make a strong enough connect to the ball.

Heita Yoshihara was the hero of the third quarter as he came up with a speedy dribble to carry the ball from the half way line, beat India defender Gurinder Singh to score a sensational goal from the far post to give Japan a 2-1 lead in the 43rd minute.

But India equalised when forward Mandeep Singh claimed a dramatic goal in the 45th minute when he touched the ball assisted by Harmanpreet Singh to deflect it into the post. But the action didn&#39;t end there with Japan reclaiming the lead with a 45th minute goal by Genki Mitani to end the third quarter at 3-2.

India won a crucial penalty corner in the 46th minute, but&nbsp;<a href="http://aninews.in/keysearch/keyword-search/japan.html">Japan</a>&nbsp;keeper Suguro Shimmoto did well to pad away a fiercely struck dragflick by Rupinder Pal Singh.

However, India held on to their nerves, came up with good counter attacking skills and found a breakthrough when Mandeep Singh scored his second goal of the match by getting a perfect deflection of Talwinder&#39;s assist at the baseline giving India a much-needed 3-3 equaliser.

Though Mandeep won India a penalty corner after&nbsp;<a href="http://aninews.in/keysearch/keyword-search/sardar-singh.html">Sardar Singh</a>&#39;s brilliance to find space in the circle, creating an opportunity Harmanpreet Singh, couldn&#39;t convert back-to-back penalty corners. It was tense final minutes with both teams keeping up the pace.

India won its first junior world cup in 2001. The team coached by Harendra Singh in association with senior team&#39;s chief coach Roelant Oltmans accomplished what the &#39;Class of 2001&#39; comprising of some of the best of their times like Gagan Ajit Singh, Yugraj Singh achieved then. 
 
Having finished a lowly 13th in the last edition of the tournament in New Delhi, it was a mission for the hosts to rewrite history and the hosts duly achieved that riding on its brilliant performance in the 11th edition of the event.

Cheered by a vociferous home crowd, the Indians produced a clinical performance a &quot;perfect game&quot; which the team&#39;s coaching staff was eying for in order to revive the fortunes of the game in a nation, which has boasted of a rich hockey tradition.
