Kishan also commented on the T20 World Cup in 2024 and is not thinking about it at the moment.

<h2>Kishan underlines Gill’s importance</h2>

"He’s a tremendous player, I’ve seen how he middles the ball. Seeing him hitting it out of the middle gives me a lot of confidence as well. Always important to win at this level, and the learnings from these games are important. We were looking to get early wickets and didn't let any ball go. Everyone is looking very positive," Kishan said in a post-match interaction after helping India win the series.

The dynamic star from Mumbai Indians, Ishan was instrumental in India’s success as they beat the hosts to win the series. He played a crucial knock of 76 runs in the decisive final ODI while also scoring 55 and 52 in the previous two ODIs. His performances saw him awarded Player of the Series while his partner Shubman Gill was awarded Player of the Match.

Kishan also commented on the T20 World Cup and thinks it is a bridge too far and is not thinking about it. With senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma out of contention for the shortest format, Kishan is the front-runner to be in the first team and will be a key member for the Indian side when they return to the Caribbean Islands in 2024.

"I’ve played a few tournaments here and I know how the wickets play here, not really thinking about the next T20 World Cup. Focusing on the upcoming tournaments, you know how one tournament can change your life. We’re just focusing on that now," said Kishan.

With India struggling to accommodate left-hand batters in the Playing XI for the upcoming ODI World Cup, Kishan could be in India’s plan. IND vs WI 3rd ODI: Ishan Kishan underlines Shubman Gill's role, says 'gives me a lot of confidence'

Hardik Pandya-led India romped West Indies by 200 runs in the third and final ODI in Trinidad on Tuesday (Aug 1) to clinch the three-match series 2-1. With this win, India claimed their 13th successive ODI series versus the Windies since 2007. After the series win, stand-in captain Hardik Pandya credited his 'wonderful chat with Virat Kohli' for a whirlwind knock in the series decider.

Opting to bat first, India once again rested regular captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Hardik led the side that rode on Ishan Kishan's 77, Shubman Gill's 85, Sanju Samson's 51 and Hardik's 52-ball 70 not out to post a mammoth 351 for 5. In reply, Shai Hope-led side only managed 151 in 35.3 overs to lose by a whopping 200-run margin.&nbsp;

Hardik's knock came at a good time for India as they continue to prepare for the Asia Cup and forthcoming ODI World Cup at home, in October-November. His last five scores were 7, 5, 40, 1 and 25. Thus, the 29-year-old came to his own in the series decider and led from the front. After the knock, he credited Kohli for a wonderful chat where the former Indian captain shared valuable inputs which helped Hardik.

At the post-match presentation, Hardik said, "I had a very wonderful chat with Virat a couple of days back, and the kind of input he gave me, he has seen me throughout the years. It's been almost seven or eight years of international cricket and he has seen me from day one. He had some pointers which really helped me. He just wanted me to spend some time on the crease and get used to the 50-over&nbsp;game as well because we have played so many T20 formats and yeah, that kind of stayed in my mind and I was just waiting for the opportunity. I'm really thankful to him as well to kind of share that experience with me."

On Rohit and Kohli being rested, Hardik backed the Rahul Dravid-led team management's decision and said, "Virat and Rohit are a very integral part of the team. And, you know, obviously, this was very important for someone like Rutu to get a game or Axar to get a game because they've been playing cricket for so many years, they know how exactly all these situations have been. So kind of giving them the youngsters exposure and kind of making sure that if we want to check something, we have the opportunity to do it."

Hardik will now lead the side in the upcoming five T20Is versus the Windies in the Caribbean, starting on August 03.

Talking about the final ODI, India opted to bat first and rode on fifties from Shubman Gill (85), Ishan Kishan (77), Sanju Samson (51) and skipper Hardik's 52-ball 70* to post 351/5. In reply, Shai Hope-led Windies were bundled out for 151 in 35.3 overs and lost&nbsp;by 200 runs. While Ishan and Gill made a strong case ahead of the ODI World Cup, Samson also did well with an attacking 51.&nbsp;

<h2>'Sanju Samson is an enigma'</h2>

"Sanju Samson is an enigma for me. He bats so well. He is a gifted player. Today, his innings was like a whiff of fresh air. He said that that his intent was to go out and be aggressive. The way he handled the leg-spinner, who was looking quite good at that point in time, was so refreshing to watch. This is what Sanju Samson is capable of," Saba Karim told JioCinema after India's ODI series triumph over West Indies.

IND vs WI: 'He hasn't got many chances but remains....' - Former Indian stumper lauds Sanju Samson

Hardik Pandya-led India thrashed West Indies by 200 runs in the third and final ODI to win the three-match series 2-1. The visitors won the series opener by five wickets and lost the second and penultimate tie by six wickets before dominating proceedings in the series decider. Once again, regular captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were rested but a second-string&nbsp;Indian team, who lost the second match rather disappointingly, displayed a strong performance to clinch the series.

There were several impressive performances from the Indian camp in the final ODI. Batting first, India rode on Ishan Kishan's 77, Shubman Gill's 85, Sanju Samson's 51 and stand-in captain Hardik's 52-ball 70 to post 351 for 5. In reply, the Windies bundled out for 151 in 35.3 overs with Shardul Thakur claiming a four-for whereas Mukesh Kumar returned with a three-wicket haul.&nbsp;

As Rohit and Kohli were rested for the final two games, the Indian team tested the likes of Samson, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, etc. Talking about Samson, he came out to bat at No. 4 and returned with a sparkling 41-ball 51, studded with 2 fours and 4 sixes at 124.39. After his high-quality knock, Samson said that it is 'challenging' being an Indian cricketer.

Talking to the broadcasters after India posted a mammoth 351/5, Samson said, "Being an Indian cricketer is challenging, I have played domestic cricket for the last 8-9 years and for India, here and there, so it gives you a bit of understanding of playing in different positions. It is the number of overs you get and it is not about batting position so you have to prepare accordingly."

“It feels really great to spend some time in the middle, score some runs and contribute for your country. I had different plans for different players, I wanted to use my feet and dominate the lengths of the bowlers," he added.

Samson has played 13 ODIs, scoring 390 runs with three half-centuries at an average of 55.71. He remains in contention to make it to India's 15-man squad for the ODI World Cup, to be held later this year in October-November.

Being an Indian cricketer is challenging, says Sanju Samson after a blistering 51 in IND vs WI 3rd ODI

Hardik Pandya-led India thumped West Indies by 200 runs in the third and final ODI, in Trinidad, to win the three-match series 2-1. After resting regular captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the second and penultimate ODI, where India lost by six wickets, the visitors once again played a second-string&nbsp;side and rode on fifties from Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson and Hardik to post 351 for 5.

In reply, Shai Hope-led Windies were bundled out for 151 in 35.3 overs. After the match,&nbsp;29-year-old Hardik&nbsp;was asked about the venue (i.e. the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad which hosted its first-eve ODI). While Hardik claimed it to be&nbsp;one of the nicest grounds, however, he urged the West Indies Cricket Board (WCI) to ensure there are no hiccups when it&nbsp;comes to making travel arrangements.

<h2>'We don't ask for luxury but need basic necessities taken care of'</h2>

At the post-match presentation, Hardik said, "This was one of the nicest grounds we have played. Things can be better when we come to West Indies next time. Things like travel, hopefully the West Indies cricket board can take note and ensure that there are no hiccups. We don’t ask for luxury but we need some basic necessities taken care of."

Reflecting on the big win, Hardik said, "It’s a special win. To be honest, I look forward to these kind of games as a captain where there is something on the line. This was more than an international game. We knew what was at stake and there would be a lot of disappointment if we lost. The boys showed great character. They enjoyed it as well, in pressure situations it’s important to enjoy it as well. Virat and Rohit are integral parts of the team. But it was important to rest them so that people like Ruturaj Gaikwad could get a chance. It was about giving opportunities to youngsters."

Hardik-led India will now shift their focus to the five T20Is, which kick off on August 03.&nbsp;

'Don’t ask for luxury but...': Hardik Pandya on travel arrangements in West Indies after ODI series triumph

The Men in Blue made yet another big statement on Tuesday, August 1 after they opted to rest both Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma in the final ODI against West Indies. The Indian team already under scanner for not playing the duo has yet again made a bold statement as they look to clinch the series in the absence of Virat and Rohit. The team also made a couple of alterations to the side as Jaydev Unadkat returned to the ODI side for the first time in a decade, having last played in November 2013.

<h2>India rest Virat, Rohit</h2>

Criticism was high for the Indian team after they lost the second ODI against West Indies on Saturday, July 29. While there were calls for the duo of Virat and Rohit to return, the management, to the surprise of many,&nbsp;opted to rest them again. The decision also means, both Virat and Rohit, have already played their last match on tour, as they will not feature in the T20I series.

The Indian team is bidding to win the ODI series on Tuesday as they look for a convincing performance from the young guns. The management also made two changes to the contest as Axar Patel and Umran Malik were dropped in favour of Jaydev Unadkat and Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Unadkat returns to the Indian ODI side after ten years, having last played against the same opposition in November 2013. His return will be an added boost to the Indian side in the bowling department.

Ruturaj’s presence in the Indian team will see him get yet another opportunity to showcase his talent while Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan will be hoping to open the innings. The Indian team has been experimenting before the World Cup as they enter a crucial couple of months in the build-up. The Indian team will also have an eye on the Asia Cup where they will be favourites to clinch the trophy.
