US has carried out fresh strikes on Houthi missiles in Yemen, Iraq sites. As tensions reach a tipping point in West Asia, Washington has reportedly urged China to help curb Red Sea attacks by Iran-backed Houthis. On this episode of Gravitas, we ask, will America lose every war that it has started?

Houthis got provoked by Yemen strike. U.S. & UK forces launched joint strike in Yemen. Houthis have now issued an order. As per reports, Houthis ordered all U.S. & British staff of the UN and its agencies to leave Yemen.

Red Sea crisis: Houthis issue order asking all US, British UN staff to leave Yemen

The United States, on the 17th of January, put Iran-backed Houthi rebels back on a list of terrorist entities. The re-designation of Houthis, as a specially designated global terrorist group, will be effective in a month's time, from 16th of February. It is the latest attempt by Washington to stem attacks against international shipping in the Red sea. Defiant Houthis though, after the announcement, vowed to continue attacks they say are in support of the Palestinians in Gaza, where Israel is engaged in a fierce battle with Hamas. The Houthis' campaign in the Red sea has disrupted global commerce, stoked fears of inflation and given rise to concerns that the fallout from the Israel-Hamas war could end up destabilizing the Middle East. Interestingly, United States added that if the Houthis ceased their attacks in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, Washington will be quick to re-evaluate this re-designation. Describing the U.S. strikes on Houthi targets as defensive, Washington categorically reiterated that they are not seeking war with the Houthis. The question is: Can America, when push comes to shove, defeat the Houthis? Mohammed Saleh brings you the details.

The US has claimed it destroyed four anti-ship ballistic missiles that the Houthi terrorists from Yemen fired on Tuesday (Jan 16). The Houthis reportedly struck a Maltese-flagged bulk carrier during the skirmish, but it remained seaworthy. US Central Command (CENTCOM) released an update on the counter-operation, saying the shipping lane in the Red Sea remains a target for the Houthis. "On Jan. 16 at approximately 1:45 pm (Sanaa time), Iranian-backed Houthi militants launched an anti-ship ballistic missile from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen into international shipping lanes in the Southern Red Sea," read the statement. The latest strike comes after Houthis struck a US-owned container ship with a similar missile on Monday (Jan 15). The ship was identified by CENTCOM as the M/V Gibraltar Eagle. Houthis released a statement after the attack, saying they consider all US and its allies shipping containers in the region as hostile. “The Yemeni armed forces consider all American and British ships and warships participating in the aggression against our country as hostile targets within the target bank of our forces,” read a Houthi statement posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) by spokesperson Mohammed Abdulsalam. Houthis upped the ante against the US and its allies this Sunday (Jan 14) by first launching an anti-ship cruise missile targeting warship USS Laboon. According to experts, the rather ambitious attack by Yemen, if successful, could have signalled the start of a full-blown regional war. USA's involvement has already made the region ripe for the spillover effect. Watch | Yemen's Houthis fired anti-ship missile after attack in Yemen: US Why the attack?
