Honda announced on Monday it had signed Italian Luca Marini, the half-brother of MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi, to a two-year deal with its factory team.&nbsp;Marini, 26, will take over from Marc Marquez, the six-time world champion who is leaving Honda a year early to join his brother at Ducati satellite team Gresini Racing.

After making his MotoGP debut in 2021, Marini earned his first two podium finishes this season -- in the United States and Qatar -- as he came eighth overall riding for VR46, the Ducati satellite team owned by Rossi.&nbsp;He also finished in the top three in four sprint races and twice took pole position.

Road salt corrosion triggers Honda recall

Honda announced on Thursday that it is recalling 563,000 CR-V sport utility vehicles sold or registered in cold-weather US states due to a potential issue with road salt causing corrosion to the frame.

The issue caused by weather may cause the rear trailing arm to detach. The recall covers CR-V vehicles from the model years 2007 through 2011, sold or registered in 22 US&nbsp;states and the District of Columbia, where road salt is commonly used.

Although the automaker has received 61 complaints from U.S. customers, it has not received any reports of fatalities or injuries related to the recall.

This is not the first time Honda has faced such an issue with the CR-V. In 2019, the automaker recalled nearly 84,000 CR-V vehicles in Canada for the same issue.

It is said that a few drivers lost power while speeding on the highway, while others found differential seal leaks resulting in rear differential lock-up as the cause.

Some reports allege the rear lock-up caused the driveshaft to fracture while the vehicle was in motion resulting in the vehicle being towed.

Apart from Honda, around 390,000&nbsp;of Ram pickup trucks belonging to the 2017-2018 model are also under the lens of the US regulator after reports claiming intermittent or permanent loss of braking performance.

But there are reports that replacing the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) module and Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) corrected the issue.

Whereas, Jeep Compass SUV users reported loss of power while driving that was accompanied by a high coolant temperature message appearing on the vehicle dashboard. The US agency is looking to probe 230,000 2019-2020 model year.

The regulator said that it will initiate its preliminary probe before the automakers are asked to recall their vehicles.

Spokespersons of Honda and Stellantis NV, the parent company of Jeep and Ram, said they are cooperating with the investigations.

Even though several flaws were reported, there have been no cases of crashes or injuries to date.

The NHTSA has decided whether to upgrade each probe to an engineering analysis before it could demand a total recall.

Reportedly, Japanese automaker Honda, according to a statement overpaid the bonus to its workers at the Marysville, Ohio plant. 3,900 employees currently work at the plant and it is unclear how many of them received the extra bonus. “Earlier this month Honda provided bonus payments to its associates, some of whom received overpayments," said Chris Abbruzzese, a Honda spokesperson. Honda added it was a sensitive matter and that they were moving quickly to sort the problem, "Issues related to compensation are a sensitive matter...we are working quickly on this item to minimize any potential impact to our associates.” The company, in a memo, addressed to the employees is now asking them to return the bonus, latest by September 22, or have it deducted from future paychecks or future bonuses. According to media reports, some employees have been asked to return as much as eight per cent of their bonus, despite having spent the money on mortgages and groceries already. It is pertinent to note that the particular Ohio factory produces cars such as Accord, CR-V, TLX, NSX, and Integra. If the employees decide to not pay back the money, experts believe that Honda might sue them as there has been a precedent in such cases. Honda overpaying bonus comes in the backdrop of the company facing supply chain, chip shortage, and logistical issues. Last month, Honda announced that it would slash production by up to 40 per cent in Japan in September.
