He did not just wonder, he took action and wrote a letter to UK PM Boris Johnson and urged him to take steps to ensure Santa's safety.

Here's what he has written.

'Dear Mr Johnson

I am 8 years old and was wondering if you and the government thought about Santa coming this Christmas. If we leave hand sanitiser by the cookies will he come? or will he wash his hands. I understand you are very busy but can you and the scientists please talk about this?'

It's easy to conjure an image of Monti truly being worried about Santa's health and writing directly to the country's premier.

Johnson gave a reply and thanked Monti for raising an 'important question'. Johnson assured him that despite coronavirus pandemic, Santa Claus will be able to deliver presents this year.

"I have put a call to the North Pole and I can tell you Father Christmas is ready and raring to go, as are Rudolph and all the other reindeer," reads Johnson's reply.

The Union Health Ministry has done away with the requirement of a licence for stocking and sale of hand sanitiser to make it more widely available for the public amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to an official notification, the ministry granted the exemption under the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, but said retailers have to ensure that such products are not sold or stocked after the date of expiry.

The ministry received several representations for exempting hand sanitiser from the requirement of sale licence, the notification said.

The notification, dated July 27, stated that the central government is satisfied that hand sanitiser is essential to meet the requirements of emergency arising due to COVID-19 pandemic and their easy availability is made in public interest.

Brewdog announced on Wednesday that it had started working on making hand sanitiser in its Scotland distillery.

European breweries switch to producing hand sanitizers amid coronavirus pandemic

The product, which has an alcohol content of 75 per cent, will be provided for free to government agencies, schools, the public transportation system and prisons, Cuomo said.

It is part of the government's "Corcraft" scheme where prisoners make dozens of products including cleaning supplies, bedding and clothes.

The sanitizer will cost $6 a gallon to make and is not expected to go on general sale.

The announcement came as the number of confirmed cases in the state rose to 142, the vast majority of them in Westchester County, just north of New York City. There have been 19 confirmed cases in the Big Apple.

The United States has at least 22 deaths from the coronavirus and 566 confirmed cases, according to a Johns Hopkins tally.

No one in New York state has yet died from the virus but eight people have been hospitalized.

Thousands of students at schools and universities were staying home this week after a suburb of Westchester shut its public schools and New York's Columbia University, Hofstra University and Yeshiva University suspended classes.

Elsewhere, the Southern District of New York said Monday it would not allow anyone who had visited China, South Korea, Japan, Italy and Iran in the last 14 days to enter any of its courthouses.
