The southern Japanese city of Kitakyushu will host the 2021 Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships, the Federation Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) announced on Sunday, the first time a city has hosted both in the same year.

The Artistic Gymnastics World Championships will take place from October&nbsp;17 to 24, followed by the rhythmic competition starting two days later.

There have been questions over where next year's world championships were to be held, after Denmark withdrew from hosting the artistic competition in July.

Larry Nasser was sentenced to imprisonment between 40 to 125 years in 2018 for abusing girls in the gymnastics facility under the guise of medical treatment and for the possession of child pornography in Michigan.&nbsp;

USA Gymnastics filed for bankruptcy in 2018. At that time they were facing 100 lawsuits which represented more than 350 athletes in various courts across the country.&nbsp;

Bankruptcy law requires businesses to provide an exit plan within 18 months, and the exit plan is another hurdle in this lengthy process. USA Gymnastics president Li Li Leung who joined several months after filing bankruptcy, in March 2019, told the press that the organization wants to work toward a true consensual settlement with survivors.

Dipa Karmakar: The Small Wonder, awarded biography of the year

A former head of the US&nbsp;Olympic Committee made "materially false statements" to a US Senate subcommittee investigating sexual abuse in gymnastics, the panel said on Friday, and it said it would refer the matter to the FBI.

In a joint statement, Republican Senator Jerry Moran, chairman of the Senate subcommittee on commerce, and Senator Richard Blumenthal, its Democratic ranking member, said they made the referral detailing potential violations of the law against Olympic Committee CEO Scott Blackmun.

Blackmun did not respond to a request for comment.

The move comes after a report released on Monday said the United States Olympics Committee (USOC) failed to protect athletes from the threat of sexual abuse, with some executives taking no actions following allegations of sexual abuse against Larry Nassar, a team doctor for USA Gymnastics.

Nassar was sentenced to up to 300 years in prison in two different trials last winter after more than 350 women testified about abuse at his hands. The witnesses included Olympic champions Aly Raisman and Jordyn Wieber.

"It appears Mr. Blackmun has made false claims and misled our subcommittee – harming the investigation and our ability to develop policy," Moran and Blumenthal said in the statement.

"Survivors of abuse have had to wait longer for the truth and longer for systemic changes to help prevent others from similar injury."

In a June 5 statement to the subcommittee, which oversees the USOC, Blackmun wrote that when he heard of allegations against Nassar through a July 2015 phone call from then-USA Gymnastics CEO Steve Penny, he spoke to the USOC’s "SafeSport staff," the statement said. SafeSport oversees abuse claims in Olympic sports.

But the Monday report by law firm Ropes &amp; Gray found that after hearing about the allegations against Nassar, Blackmun did not inform anyone else at the USOC of the allegations.

India&#39;s top gymnast Dipa Karmakar has been forced out of the coming Commonwealth Games owing to the career-threatening knee injury she picked up last year, her coach Bisweshwar Nandi said on Tuesday.

As the nation eagerly waits for Dipa Karmakar`s performance in the Rio Olympics women`s vault final, her parents hope that the 23-year-old gymnast gets a birthday present in the form of a medal at the prestigious quadrennial event. 
 
Dipa`s father Dulal Karmakar, a weightlifting coach with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), said that he was overwhelmed with happiness after getting the news about Dipa qualifying for the finals. 
 
&quot;I have no words to express my feelings. It was always her aim to participate in the Olympics and now she has qualified as well. Now we all are hoping that she comes back with a medal from there,&quot; Dulal Karmakar said.

Tripura gymnast's parents hope she can win her nation a medal on her birthday

As the nation eagerly waits for Dipa Karmakar`s performance in the Rio Olympics women`s vault final, her parents hope that the 23-year-old gymnast gets a birthday present in the form of a medal at the prestigious quadrennial event. Dipa`s father Dulal Karmakar, a weightlifting coach with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), said that he was overwhelmed with happiness after getting the news about Dipa qualifying for the finals. "I have no words to express my feelings. It was always her aim to participate in the Olympics and now she has qualified as well. Now we all are hoping that she comes back with a medal from there," Dulal Karmakar said. "Yes it is a big success and we are very happy. On her birthday, we are not doing anything just praying to god that as a present on her birthday she can bring a medal for all Indians," said Dipa Karmakar`s mother Gouri Karmakar.Tripura`s golden girl Dipa surprised one and all by becoming first Indian gymnast to enter the Olympic final. Meanwhile, prayers are taking place in her native state, hoping that the Tripura gymnast brings laurels for the nation.
