The 45-year-old filmmaker was apprehended in Ghaziabad and taken to the Nabi Karim Police Station in Delhi, where he remains in custody, said an India Today report. Mishra, who is married and lives with his family in Mumbai, is facing serious allegations from an aspiring actress who hails from a small town.
The complainant, a 28-year-old woman, alleged that she met Mishra through social media platforms TikTok and Instagram in 2020 while living in Uttar Pradesh&rsquo;s Jhansi. Mishra allegedly coerced her into meeting him. On June 18, 2021, he took her to a resort, drugged her, and sexually assaulted her, reports India Today. The victim further claimed that Mishra took objectionable photos and videos of her and used them to blackmail her into a relationship. She claims he lured her with promises of marriage and film opportunities, forcing her into a live-in relationship in Mumbai. During this time, he reportedly assaulted her on multiple occasions for four years and forced her to undergo abortions thrice in Muzaffarnagar, from where police have reportedly gathered supporting medical evidence.

The film director allegedly abandoned her in February 2025 and threatened to leak her private pictures and videos if she filed a complaint against him.
Mishra had gained attention when he personally visited 16-year-old Monalisa Bholsle, a flower seller who became a viral sensation during Maha Kumbh, and her family in their village for a potential Bollywood debut and offered a role.

Iran's acclaimed filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof announced that he had fled from his country to Europe after he was given a prison sentence by a court on national security charges.

In an Instagram post, Rasoulof criticised the Iranian government and called it a tyrannical and oppressive regime. He also shared a video which showed him crossing the mountainous border of the country.

“If geographical Iran suffers beneath the boots of your religious tyranny, cultural Iran is alive in the common minds of millions of Iranians who were forced to leave Iran due to your brutality and no power can impose its will on it. From today, I am a resident of cultural Iran,” Rasoulof said.

In another statement on May 12, Rasoulof stated that he would be escaping from Iran after his lawyers informed him about his prison sentence getting implemented on short notice.

<h2>Why was Rasoulof given a prison sentence?</h2>

The lawyers of Rasoulof last week, informed The Associated Press that the director was given&nbsp;an&nbsp;eight-year prison sentence, and orders had been given for the confiscation of his property by the Islamic Republic, as well as for&nbsp;flogging.

Rasoulof's attorney Babak Paknia said that the filmmaker was given a sentence for signing statements and making films.

A letter was co-signed by Rasoulof and other artists appealing to authorities to put down their weapons as protests continued over a building's collapse in 2022 which killed at least 29 people in the&nbsp;southwestern city of Abadan.

"Knowing that the news of my new film would be revealed very soon, I knew that without a doubt, a new sentence would be added to these eight years," Rasoulof said.

"I didn’t have much time to make a decision. I had to choose between prison and leaving Iran. With a heavy heart, I chose exile. The Islamic Republic confiscated my passport in September 2017. Therefore, I had to leave Iran secretly," he added.

One of Bengali cinema's most noted filmmmakers Tarun Majumdar is dead. The veteran director passed away in a hospital in Kolkata on Monday at the age of 91.&nbsp; 
 
Majumdar, who was honored with Padma Shri, was admitted at the state-run SSKM Medical College &amp; Hospital in Kolkata on June 14, due to age-related ailments. He was put on life support on Sunday after his condition deteriorated. He breathed his last at around 11.17 am. this morning. 
 
Besides Padma Shri, he had won multiple honours like National Award, Bengal Film Journalists` Association Award and Filmfare Awards (East). 
 
Majumdar has the credit of launching a number of legendary film actors and actresses like Moushumi Chatterjee, Late Tapas Paul and Debasree Roy and his own wife Sandhya Roy. 
 
The film 'Gandevata' (Human god), based on the legendary novel by Bengali writer, Tarashankar Bandopadhyay, was the first reflection of Majumdar's leanings towards Marxist ideology, where he portrayed the breakdown of socio- economic structures, impact of industrialisation and non-cooperation-movement in rural Bengal. 
 
On the contrary, his films like 'Dadar Kirti', 'Bhalobasha Bhalobasha' and 'Apan Amar Apan' depicted the spirit of romanticism prevalent in then Bengali society. In many of his films, Majumdar had strongly advocated for maintaining the traditional culture of Bengali joint families. In his movies, he had made a perfect blending of rural and urban lives in Bengal. 
 
The movies directed by him were specially acclaimed for extensive and sequential use of songs by Nobel Laureaute Rabindranath Tagore. 
 
Born on January 8, 1931, Majumdar was an acclaimed student in his academic life as well. He did his graduation in chemistry from Kolkata`s reputed Scottish Church College. 
 
He had always been candid about his support towards the previous Left Front government. In May 2011, soon after Trinamool Congress came to power in West Bengal bringing an end to the 34-year Left Front rule in West Bengal, Majumdar too resigned from the post of advisor of Nandan (West Bengal film center in Kolkata). 
 
A pall of gloom descended over the entire Bengali silver screen world as the news of his demise spread. Many dignitories, including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, expressed their condolences.

Director <a href="https://www.wionews.com/south-asia/film-maker-stirs-pakistan-metoo-debate-with-rape-allegation-257954">Jamshed Mahmood Raza</a> took to social media over the weekend to allege that Dawn newspaper's Hameed Haroon raped him 13 years ago.&nbsp;

In October, Raza first described the assault publicly on Twitter but referred to the alleged perpetrator as a "powerful person in our media world".

Haroon who hails from one of Pakistan's wealthiest and most influential families issued a fierce denial in Dawn, the country's most popular English daily, late Monday, calling the accusations "simply untrue and intentionally fabricated".

"I categorically deny the allegation of rape leveled against me," said Haroon in a statement.

Raza later slammed Haroon's comments, saying the statement was "nothing but a slap to all us survivors".

The allegations have again stirred controversy in the deeply conservative country, where most discussions about sex and abuse are considered taboo.&nbsp;

Some voices have called for accountability, while others dismissed notions of male-on-male <a href="https://www.wionews.com/videos/a-wearable-sticker-that-can-detect-sexual-assault-4383">sexual assault</a>.

Balakrishnan, after allegedly killing his wife on January 19, dismembered the body the next day and dumped the parts packed in plastic bags in various garbage bins in the city, the police said.

During investigation, Balakrishnan confessed to having committed the crime suspecting her fidelity, they said.

"Based on information he gave, another part of the woman's body was also found on Wednesday," the police said, adding that further investigation is on to find the woman's head and torso.

The film has been shot extensively in Sweden including Stockholm, with some portions being shot in and around Maharashtra.

‘Dear Molly’ features Gurbani Gill as Molly who makes her debut along with well-known Marathi actors Alok Rajwade, Mrinmayee Godbole and Ashwini Giri and a prominent Swedish cast comprising Lia Boysen and Chris Holmgren among others.

Actor Bradley Cooper has been roped in to star in actor-filmmaker Clint Eastwood`s next film 'The Mule'. As reported by Variety, 'The Mule'&nbsp;is Eastwood`s next directing gig that he also plans to star in.

The film is a co-production between Warner Bros and Imperative Entertainment, and will mark Eastwood`s first acting job since the 2012 baseball drama `Trouble With the Curve`.

The film could also be one of his final on-screen appearances. The movie is based on a 2014 New York Times Magazine feature by Sam Dolnick and follows Earl Stone (Eastwood), a man in his 80s who is broke, alone, and facing foreclosure of his business when he is offered a job that simply requires him to drive - easy enough.

But unbeknownst to Earl, he`s signed on as a drug courier for a Mexican cartel, and also hit the radar of hard-charging DEA agent Colin Bates (Cooper). Cooper and Eastwood last worked together in 2014 film `American Sniper`.&nbsp;

Amy Krouse Rosenthal, a popular children&rsquo;s book author, memoirist and public speaker died at the age of 51 on Monday at her home in Chicago. She was suffering from ovarian cancer.&nbsp;

Rosenthal had recently earned a large readership after she started writing a monthly column in the New York Times titled &ldquo;You May Want to Marry My Husband&rdquo;.&nbsp;

In her column, she wrote: &ldquo;I want more time with Jason. I want more time with my children. I want more time sipping martinis at the Green Mill Jazz Club on Thursday nights. But that is not going to happen. I probably have only a few days left being a person on this planet. So why I am doing this?&rdquo;

&ldquo;I am wrapping this up on Valentine&rsquo;s Day,&rdquo; she continued, &ldquo;and the most genuine, non-vase-oriented gift I can hope for is that the right person reads this, finds Jason, and another love story begins.&rdquo;

Her husband, Jason was later interviewed by publishers. To People&rsquo;s Magazine, he said, &ldquo;When I read her words for the first time, I was shocked at the beauty, slightly surprised at the incredible prose given her condition and, of course, emotionally ripped apart.&rdquo;

Rosenthal has written 28 children&rsquo;s picture books, two memoirs; delivered TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) Talks and NPR commentaries; and produced short films and YouTube videos of what she called social experiments, with titles like &ldquo;ATM: Always Trust Magic,&rdquo; &ldquo;The Money Tree&rdquo; and &ldquo;The Beckoning of Lovely.&rdquo;

&nbsp;An award-winning Tibetan film director has been detained and suffered serious injury while in police custody, a Chinese film directors&#39; guild said on Wednesday, sparking widespread condemnation in the Chinese film industry.

Pema Tseden, a renowned Tibetan filmmaker best known for the films &quot;Tharlo&quot; and &quot;Old Dog&quot;, was detained at an airport in Western China on Saturday, the Film Directors&#39; Guild of China said in a statement posted to its official microblog account. It was not immediately clear why.

He was badly hurt in the course of his detention, the statement added, and was then taken to hospital in the Western Chinese city of Xining on Monday. Police in Xining did not respond to repeated calls for comment and Pema Tseden could not be reached.

Pema Tseden is China&#39;s first director to make films entirely in the Tibetan language. His work has won many prizes at home and are not critical of Beijing&#39;s rule over Tibet.

Rights groups say China, which took control of Tibet in 1950, has tried to stamp out religious freedom and culture in the Himalayan region. China rejects the criticism, saying its rule has ended serfdom and brought development.

People with knowledge of the case told Reuters they believed police had not recognised the director and detained him after a dispute over luggage at the airport.

&quot;(We) call on the relevant authorities to quickly respond to the association&#39;s concern, and make public the whole story of this incident, including the reason for police taking forceful measures,&quot; the guild said in a statement.

Abuses by Chinese police departments, which are largely unregulated, are common in China, but this case generated unusual fervour on social media networks because of the director&#39;s fame. Tibetans on Chinese social media networks called for calm.

In May, there was a major public outcry after an environmentalist who had graduated from a prestigious Beijing university died in police custody.
