The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) ruled on Thursday that Google will have to remove data from its online search results if any user can prove that it is accurate.

The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) ruled on Thursday that Google will have to remove data from its online search results if any user can prove that it is accurate. This was a major boost for privacy rights and free speech activists who have been asking for people's "right to be forgotten" online. "The operator of a search engine must de-reference information found in the referenced content where the person requesting de-referencing proves that such information is manifestly inaccurate," the Court of Justice of the European Union said in its judgement according to Associated Press. There have been demands from various groups about the removal of any trace of their online presence but the judgement will help them in strengthening their case from a factual standpoint. The decision came in a case concerning two investment company executives who wanted Google to remove certain articles about their investment model – information that they proved to be “incorrect”. G7 and Australia follow EU, agree to $60 a barrel price cap on Russian crude oil

<p>The European Union member states have agreed to put a price cap of $60 a barrel on Russian oil, AFP reported on Friday. The countries decided to follow the lead of the G7 economies who imposed a limit on Russian oil in a bid to hamper the revenues earned by the Kremlin. While the EU has already imposed multiple sanctions on Russia, they have not stopped the imports completely.</p>

<p>According to the agreement, the price cap will be reviewed to maintain it in accordance with the market fluctuations and special attention will be paid to ensure that it is “at least 5% below the average market price. While nearly all the members agreed on the oil price cap, Poland remained skeptical of the terms, but the government finally gave its nod keeping the adjustments in mind.</p>

<p>Earlier, Russia said that the price cap will hurt its economy and it will result in higher inflation. While countries like China and India continue to deal with Russia when it comes to oil and natural gas, the loss of the European market has come as a major blow to the struggling Russian economy.</p>

The European Union warned Twitter that it must “significantly increase” its efforts to comply with its new legislation aimed at preventing disinformation and online abuse, else it may face substantial fines or ban as the “last resort” regulatory option. Twitter’s new owner, Elon Musk, was reportedly told he had “huge work ahead” to comply with the EU’s Digital Services Act, which requires tech companies to tackle problems such as hate speech online and disinformation. The European Union’s commissioner for the internal market, Thierry Breton, told the Tesla CEO that Twitter will have to significantly increase efforts to “pass the grade”, Financial Times reported. The creation of a loss and damage fund, which will help poor nations around the world to rebuild after major natural disasters, has dominated the conversation at this year’s COP27 summit. While the fund was not mentioned in the first draft of the summit declaration, the European Union has taken a massive step towards making it a reality. European Commission vice-president Frans Timmermans submitted a proposal on Friday that made it clear that the EU member nations agreed to create the fund. “We were reluctant about a fund; it was not our idea to have a fund. My reluctance was because I know from experience it takes time before a fund can be established, and more time before it is filled, whereas we have existing instruments. European Union antitrust regulators to hit Facebook with new charges: Report

<p>The European Commission said on Tuesday (November 8) that an in-depth antitrust probe has been opened into Microsoft's bid to buy video games developer Activision Blizzard.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It was expected that the EU would take time to examine and investigate the deal because of its size and the rising concerns from rivals.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a statement, it said that the probe is because "the proposed acquisition may reduce competition in the markets for the distribution of console and personal computers video games and for PC operating systems."&nbsp;</p>

<p>The probe will look into the effects of the takeover "to determine whether its initial competition concerns are confirmed", the commission said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"By acquiring Activision Blizzard, Microsoft may foreclose access to Activision Blizzard's console and PC video games, especially to high-profile and highly successful games (so-called 'AAA' games) such as 'Call of Duty'," it said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In September, media reports stated that Microsoft's deal to buy Activision Blizzard might face an investigation in Brussels and the United Kingdom. Activision Blizzard makes the blockbuster "Call of Duty" game.&nbsp;</p>

<p>And concerns were raised after reports emerged that Microsoft's $75 billion acquisition of the video game maker is apparently anti-competitive and will exclude rivals from accessing the popular game.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Microsoft apparently did not opt to offer any remedies to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) because there were no commitments the UK regulator would be likely to accept.&nbsp;</p>

Chinese authorities behind a major trade expo in Shanghai pulled an opening ceremony address by the European Council president that was set to criticise Russia's "illegal war" in Ukraine and call for reduced EU trade dependency on China, diplomats said. The pre-recorded video by Charles Michel was meant to be one of several from world leaders and heads of international organisations, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, at the opening of the China International Import Expo (CIIE) on Friday, three European diplomats told Reuters. The diplomats, who cannot be named due to the sensitivity of the matter, told Reuters they were surprised that the speech had been removed. "President Michel was invited to address 5th Hongqiao Forum/CIIE in Shanghai," Barend Leyts, a spokesman for Michel told Reuters. "As requested by the Chinese authorities, we had indeed provided a pre-recorded message which was ultimately not shown. We have addressed this through the normal diplomatic channels."
