Tottenham Hotspur coach Mauricio Pochettino has dismissed the "stupid rumours" that he could quit the club after their shaky start to the Premier League season and said he wanted to extend his stay so he can rebuild the team.

Spurs make the short visit to north London rivals Arsenal on Sunday looking for a reaction after last week's shock 1-0 defeat at home by Newcastle United, which left them with four points from their opening three games.

"What can I say about stupid rumours? After five years now I start my sixth season," Pochettino told a news conference on Friday.

"You know how we worked this summer to rebuild and update because from each summer we have built version 2.0, 3.0, now we're version 6.0. Only social media can create something that stupid.

"I will not walk away after Sunday's game. The most important thing is to help the team on the pitch and make sure the communication is clear. I hope that I can extend my life here."

Tottenham have a long list of injuries, worsened by Kyle Walker-Peters straining a hamstring against Newcastle, leaving the coach short at right-back.

Record signing Tanguy Ndombele, defender Juan Foyth, midfielder Eric Dier and full back Ryan Sessegnon have also been ruled out, while Pochettino said it was unlikely that Dele Alli would be able to return in time for the derby.

There is also continued uncertainty about the future of Christian Eriksen after Pochettino did not start the Danish playmaker against Newcastle, while defender Jan Vertonghen has not played any minutes so far this season.

The Argentine said he was not overly concerned by his shortage of players, even at right back, where midfielder Moussa Sissoko may have to fill in.

"It's not a worry, only an issue we need to fix, trying to find another solution," Pochettino said.

"I am very optimistic that we will find the best way to perform. There's no excuses. Always when one option disappears there is another option that appears and we will play with 11 players."

Despite his side's difficulties, Pochettino is looking forward to the clash at the Emirates Stadium, where Spurs have failed to win in the Premier League since 2010.

"We know well what this game means. I'm lucky to be involved in this type of game. I love to play this type of game and I am so excited and optimistic that we will perform in our best way," he said.

Solskjaer believes a lot is expected of the midfielder, sometimes unreasonably.

"He expects a lot from himself as well," he said.

"We expect a lot from him but we know that we can't get Roy Keane, Veron, Scholes, Giggs and Cantona in one player. It's hard. He's a top, top player.

"We do expect a lot from our players and we have high hopes this season. Hopefully we can be consistent and challenge when we come to April and May and Paul plays a big part in that."

'Thick-skinned'

United&nbsp;have sought talks with Twitter chiefs in response to the threats and racist insults and, while Solskjaer believes Pogba will respond positively to the affair, he pointed out there is a limit to such resilience.

"You become thick-skinned playing football and being high profile, as our players are," he said.&nbsp;

"Apart from using common sense, sometimes you've just got to turn a blind eye to it. We know that these people are not the majority, it's a few select ones who hide behind a mask.

"When I spoke to Paul I didn't get the feeling that he struggled with it. He'd not been sat down reading a lot.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has said he is concerned that the transfer market uncertainty over midfielder Christian Eriksen is hurting the player and the club.

Denmark international Eriksen has been an influential figure in Pochettino's side that finished runners-up to Liverpool in the Champions League and were fourth in the Premier League last season.

'Sloppy' United

Rashford revealed Pogba had said he wanted to take the kick and, publicly at least, the England striker had no problem with that.

"Paul wanted to take it, it's that simple. Everybody can miss a penalty. He's scored countless penalties for us so it's normal to miss one.

"I took one last week so for me it's no problem for him to take one this week.&nbsp;

"It's unfortunate he didn't score but it's not on him, it's as a team and we take it forward to the next game."

It was a disappointing result for United after they dominated the opening period, with Solskjaer admitting they lost their way in a "sloppy" second half.

"First half was a mature performance. Second half was a bit sloppy. We are improving. We are a young team who will learn, we learned on the pitch today," Solskjaer said.

"Wolves probably got the goal they deserve. I thought we took control again and could have won it.

"We get a penalty that normally would get us another two points, sometimes the keeper makes a good save."

Solskjaer also refused to rule out Chile forward Alexis Sanchez leaving United before the close of the European transfer window.

"He'll be gradually integrated into more playing time, but we'll have more behind closed doors games and with only one (competitive) game a week it's hard to keep players ticking. We are arranging a few of them."

Fitness is very much a key issue at United this season and was evident in last week’s 4-0 win over Chelsea, with Solskjaer having apparently succeeded in improving the base fitness of the squad that entered last season under Jose Mourinho.

"There is a big shift and difference between the teams,” said Solskjaer.

"Chelsea outran us quite a lot in April, three games ago, now we've outrun them, so that's a good shift for us.

"But it's not just about fitness, fitness is important but a young team you expect loads of energy but we also have quality."

Solskjaer also expects Brazilian midfielder Fred, signed for £52 million last summer, to have a greater impact with United this season despite an underwhelming first year in English football, particularly with the United defence reinforced by the presence of £80 million centre-back Harry Maguire.

"Your team will always play better if you are settled and have a good foundation and not conceding goals,” said Solskjaer.

"The good teams I played in, we had a strong base, a keeper, settled backline and we hope to provide that for our attackers and midfielders and we believe Fred is going to have a big season as well."
