<p>The 2024 Met Gala has finally begun! And, fashionistas from around the world have descended on the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City to walk the red carpet. This year, the event is being co-chaired by Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth and Bad Bunny and as usual, Vogue's Anna Wintour is at the helm at the Costume Institute benefit.</p>

<p>The theme of this year's Met Gala is "The Garden of Time", inspired by J.G. Ballard's 1962 short story of the same name. The theme stems from the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's latest exhibition, "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion". Around 250 garments will be on display from the Costume Institute's collection of 33,000 pieces. Many pieces have typically never been shown before and some are too fragile to hang.&nbsp;</p>

He criticised Kettan for mimicking him in “exceptionally poor taste” and expressed sadness over the current state of society which accepts such jokes about queer people.&nbsp;</p>

<p>His note read, "I was sitting and watching television with my mom… and saw a promo of a reality comedy show on a supposedly respectable channel… a comic was mimicking me in exceptionally poor taste… I expect this from trolls and faceless and nameless people but when your own industry can disrespect someone who has been in the business for over 25 years it speaks volumes about the times we live in… this doesn’t even anger me it just makes me sad! <p>The box office success of her latest release <em>Crew </em>is a sign that there is no gender bias today, says actor Kareena Kapoor Khan, who is happy the heist comedy has 'broken barriers' when it comes to films fronted by women.</p>

<p><em>Crew</em>, also starring Tabu and Kriti Sanon, revolves around three air hostesses, who work for an airline that goes bankrupt and decide to take control of their fate. Directed by Rajesh A Krishnan, the movie hit the screens on March 29 and has grossed over Rs 150 crore at the ticket window.</p>

<p>Going forward, Kareena said she will continue to associate herself with projects that "break norms".</p>

<p>"Films are a form of entertainment and if you have a powerful message in the form of entertainment like 'Crew'... It had three women leading (a film) coming into theatres... We have done a business of over Rs 150 crore... That in itself is a validation that today there is no gender bias. We are trying to break those norms.</p>

<p>"It's not about whether it's a hero or a heroine taking on a film. It's a person and (their) performance that takes the film and content (forward). We are going to keep trying to do that. I will always choose roles that are interesting but in the form of entertainment. I'm happy <em>Crew</em>&nbsp;has broken barriers. It started the conversation that women also can break box office rules," Kareena, who played the role of Jasmine Kohli in <em>Crew</em>, told PTI in an interview here.</p>

<p>The actor, a passionate advocate of child rights, education and health, said she is looking forward to utilising her reach as a celebrity to help in her role as UNICEF India's National Ambassador.</p>

<p>"As an actor in (the film) industry, I have a voice that can reach millions of people. So that responsibility is definitely there and I want to use it (voice) to gather support for our children across the country.</p>

<p>"It's also the responsibility of the parents to understand the needs of their children. I'm proud that I have this voice and I know that people follow me and look up to me. I understand they listen to what I say. I want to use this for something, especially when it comes to ensuring children's rights," she added.</p>

<p>Harvey Weinstein will appear in a New York City court next week, the first step in potentially retrying the film mogul after his 2020 rape conviction was overturned.</p>

<p>New York’s highest court on Thursday threw out Weinstein’s 2020 rape conviction, ordering a new trial. The Manhattan district attorney’s office has said it intends to pursue a retrial but gave no indication about the agenda for Wednesday’s hearing.</p>

<p>“We will do everything in our power to retry this case, and remain steadfast in our commitment to survivors of sexual assault,” the district attorney’s office said in a statement Friday.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, a woman Weinstein was sent to prison for sexually assaulting said Friday she is considering whether she would testify at any retrial.</p>

<p>Mimi Haley said she is still processing Thursday’s decision by the state Court of Appeals and is considering numerous factors, including the trauma of having to prepare for another trial and again relive what happened to her.</p>

<p>“It was retraumatizing and gruelling and exhausting and all the things,” she said during a news conference with her attorney, Gloria Allred. “I definitely don’t want to actually go through that again. But for the sake of keeping going and doing the right thing and because it is what happened, I would consider it.”</p>

<p>Weinstein was convicted in New York in February 2020 of forcing himself on Haley, a TV and film production assistant, in 2006 for oral sex and raping an aspiring actress in 2013.</p>

<p>The Associated Press does not generally identify people alleging sexual assault unless they consent to be named and Haley has agreed to be named.</p>

<p>Weinstein, 72, will remain in prison because he was convicted in Los Angeles in 2022 of another rape. He was sentenced to 16 years in prison in that case.</p>

<p>Thursday’s Court of Appeals court ruling in New York essentially resets Weinstein’s case, with next week’s hearing the first step in the process of potentially retrying him. Prosecutors will work off the same indictment, albeit excluding the charges he was acquitted of four years ago.</p>

<p>Among other things, authorities will need to sort out where Weinstein is incarcerated while he awaits a new trial in New York. He could be sent to the city’s notorious Riker’s Island jail complex, or to California to begin serving a sentence for his conviction there.</p>

<p>Allred said the New York decision shows how important it was to also bring charges in California, even when critics called that prosecution superfluous.</p>

<p>Weinstein’s attorney, Arthur Aidala, did not immediately respond to an email seeking a response to Haley’s comments. But on Thursday he called the state Court of Appeals ruling “a tremendous victory for every criminal defendant in the state of New York.”</p>

<p>The court overturned Weinstein’s 23-year sentence in a 4-3 decision, saying “the trial court erroneously admitted testimony of uncharged, alleged prior sexual acts” and permitted questions about Weinstein’s “bad behaviour” if he had testified. It called this “highly prejudicial” and “an abuse of judicial discretion.”</p>

<p>New York Governor Kathy Hochul said Friday that her office is analyzing the scale of the decision and how the state can make sure that all women feel safe coming forward.</p>

<p>“I don’t want this to be a moment of stifling the environment that was created where finally we were calling out people who were abusing women in their presence,” Hochul said. “We don’t want to have any setbacks where there’s this sense that you now have to be silenced, and that’s something that we have to protect.”</p>

<p>Allred said she welcomed the governor’s comments and likely would be suggesting possible legislation. She said she’s concerned that the ruling will lead to fewer cases being brought, especially against high-profile defendants.</p>

<p>“Then there will be not only no access to justice for the ‘Me too’ witnesses, prior bad-act witnesses, but in addition for the actual victim of the crime...where it could have been prosecuted, would have been prosecuted otherwise,” she said.</p>

<p>Haley said she has talked to other alleged victims of Weinstein about the ruling, but the subject of testifying again did not come up.</p>

<p>“What would make me want to do it again would just be, like I said in the past, this isn’t just about me,” she said. “It’s a really important case. It’s in the public eye. It’s really difficult for me personally, but it’s important for the collective.”</p>

New York’s highest court on Thursday threw out Weinstein’s 2020 rape conviction, ordering a new trial. The Manhattan district attorney’s office has said it intends to pursue a retrial but gave no indication about the agenda for Wednesday’s hearing. “We will do everything in our power to retry this case, and remain steadfast in our commitment to survivors of sexual assault,” the district attorney’s office said in a statement Friday. Meanwhile, a woman Weinstein was sent to prison for sexually assaulting said Friday she is considering whether she would testify at any retrial. Mimi Haley said she is still processing Thursday’s decision by the state Court of Appeals and is considering numerous factors, including the trauma of having to prepare for another trial and again relive what happened to her. “It was retraumatizing and gruelling and exhausting and all the things,” she said during a news conference with her attorney, Gloria Allred. “I definitely don’t want to actually go through that again. But for the sake of keeping going and doing the right thing and because it is what happened, I would consider it.” Weinstein was convicted in New York in February 2020 of forcing himself on Haley, a TV and film production assistant, in 2006 for oral sex and raping an aspiring actress in 2013. The Associated Press does not generally identify people alleging sexual assault unless they consent to be named and Haley has agreed to be named. Weinstein, 72, will remain in prison because he was convicted in Los Angeles in 2022 of another rape. He was sentenced to 16 years in prison in that case. Prosecutors will work off the same indictment, albeit excluding the charges he was acquitted of four years ago. Among other things, authorities will need to sort out where Weinstein is incarcerated while he awaits a new trial in New York. He could be sent to the city’s notorious Riker’s Island jail complex, or to California to begin serving a sentence for his conviction there. Allred said the New York decision shows how important it was to also bring charges in California, even when critics called that prosecution superfluous. Weinstein’s attorney, Arthur Aidala, did not immediately respond to an email seeking a response to Haley’s comments. But on Thursday he called the state Court of Appeals ruling “a tremendous victory for every criminal defendant in the state of New York.” The court overturned Weinstein’s 23-year sentence in a 4-3 decision, saying “the trial court erroneously admitted testimony of uncharged, alleged prior sexual acts” and permitted questions about Weinstein’s “bad behaviour” if he had testified. It called this “highly prejudicial” and “an abuse of judicial discretion.” New York Governor Kathy Hochul said Friday that her office is analyzing the scale of the decision and how the state can make sure that all women feel safe coming forward. “I don’t want this to be a moment of stifling the environment that was created where finally we were calling out people who were abusing women in their presence,” Hochul said. “We don’t want to have any setbacks where there’s this sense that you now have to be silenced, and that’s something that we have to protect.” Allred said she welcomed the governor’s comments and likely would be suggesting possible legislation. She said she’s concerned that the ruling will lead to fewer cases being brought, especially against high-profile defendants. “Then there will be not only no access to justice for the ‘Me too’ witnesses, prior bad-act witnesses, but in addition for the actual victim of the crime...where it could have been prosecuted, would have been prosecuted otherwise,” she said. Haley said she has talked to other alleged victims of Weinstein about the ruling, but the subject of testifying again did not come up. “What would make me want to do it again would just be, like I said in the past, this isn’t just about me,” she said. “It’s a really important case. It’s in the public eye. It’s really difficult for me personally, but it’s important for the collective.”

<p>In a recent development, Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, is facing serious allegations from a former security guard, Benjamin Deshon Provo. Provo, who worked as security for West at both his private school Donda Academy and at a warehouse for his Yeezy brand clothing, has accused the artist of subjecting Black employees to discriminatory treatment.</p>

<p>The lawsuit, filed by Provo, alleges that West frequently screamed at and berated Black employees, and ultimately fired Provo for refusing to cut his dreadlocks. This is the latest in a series of complaints against West.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Earlier this month, another employee filed a similar complaint claiming discrimination and harassment while working for West at Donda Academy and Yeezy.</p>

<p>The recent complaint, filed on April 26 in Los Angeles, details Provo's employment history with West. He began working for the rapper in August 2021 and spent six months at Donda Academy before it relocated. Provo then performed security services at West's Sunday Service events and at his Yeezy warehouse.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The singer R. Kelly was correctly sentenced to 20 years in prison on child sex convictions in Chicago, a federal appeals court ruled Friday. Jurors in 2022 convicted the Grammy Award-winning R&amp;B singer, born Robert Sylvester Kelly, on three charges of producing child sexual abuse images and three charges of enticement of minors for sex.</p>

<p>In his appeal, Kelly argued that Illinois’ former and shorter statute of limitations on child sex crime prosecutions should have applied to his Chicago case rather than current law permitting charges while an accuser is still alive.</p>

<p>He also argued that charges involving one accuser should have been tried separately from the charges tied to three other accusers due to video evidence that became a focal point of the Chicago trial.</p>

<p>Federal prosecutors have said the video showed Kelly abusing a girl. The accuser identified only as Jane testified for the first time that she was 14 when the video was taken.</p>

<p>The three-judge panel from the Chicago-based 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Friday’s ruling noted that jurors acquitted Kelly on 7 of the 13 counts against him “even after viewing those abhorrent tapes.”</p>

<p>Dua Lipa made a bold fashion statement at the Time100 Gala, which took place in New York City on Thursday, April 25. The event celebrated the release of their list of the 100 Most Influential People in the World of 2024. Other celebrities who attended the event were Kylie Minogue, Brittany Mahomes, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Dev Patel and Billy Porter among others.</p>

<p>Inspired by look 43 from Chanel's Métiers d’art 2023/24 collection, Dua's white floral guipure lacy dress was embroidered with crystals and aluminium rings. The highlight of the gown was its daring neckline and a black bow featuring a white resin embellishment.</p>

<p>To accessorise, she picked a few dainty diamond rings along with a diamond strand necklace. For her makeup and hair, she decided to keep things subtle and opted for her signature glam look.</p>
