The federal agency had undertaken fresh searches in this case last week in Delhi, Mumbai, and Pune as part of the probe against portal Magicwin. 
 
Sources told PTI that ED had asked Sherawat and TV actor Pooja Banerjee to respond to some queries in this case by email or through an official representative.

They said 48-year-old Sherawat submitted her statement to the ED's Ahmedabad office last week by sending her replies through an authorised representative and email. At the same time, Banerjee was deposed before the investigation officer (IO) and got her statement recorded under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Sherawat has acted in a number of Hindi movies while Banerjee has been part of several TV shows including Kasautii Zindagii Kay.

Both their names were listed in the case as they were involved in some promotion activity related to Magicwin. They are, prima facie not found to be an accused in the case, as per the sources. The agency is expected to question some more actors and celebrities in this case soon.

The ED, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said a "launch party" held for the portal, where several "B-town celebrities" attended and endorsed Magicwin, is under its scanner.

These celebrities also did video and photo shoots for Magicwin and posted them on their social media accounts for its "promotion". Advertisements were also done through hoardings out of home (OOH) in various parts of India including Gujarat and Maharashtra, the agency said.

The money laundering case is based on an FIR registered by the cybercrime unit of the Ahmedabad Police in Gujarat. Magicwin, according to the agency, is a "betting" website "guised" as a gaming portal that is "actually owned" by Pakistani nationals.

The operations of this website are mostly handled by Indian nationals working or settled in Dubai, it said. "The betting games being shown on the website are originally played in the Philippines and other countries which allow betting activities," it said.

However, as per the investigation, the same is "re-telecast" on Magicwin's website by copying the APIs (application programming interface) of the original games.

The agency said betting activities like deposits, placing of betting and withdrawal are "controlled" by the "owners" of Magicwin.

The ED claimed its probe found that the money, deposited in the bank accounts by the players/betters, was "diverted" through layers of "shell and mule" bank accounts and further the profit part of the owners was invested in crypto assets, withdrawn in cash or sent to Dubai through Hawala channels. 
 
The winning amounts of the players/betters were transferred to their bank accounts through merchant accounts of various shell companies maintained with payment gateways. These amounts were also transferred to the player's bank account through domestic money transfer, it said.

It said the profits generated by these betting websites are more than 50 per cent of the total deposits made by the players.

Raj Kundra's residence was searched by the Enforcement Directorate on Friday Morning. The ED conducted searches in 15 locations around Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh including Kundra's residence. Kundra is married to Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty.&nbsp;

The search operations are reportedly linked to a money-laundering investigation with regard to allegations surrounding the production and distribution of pornographic content through mobile applications. Kundra's company is allegedly involved in the case.

India's Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday (Nov 7) launched a crackdown on the vendors operating on e-commerce giants like Amazon and&nbsp;Flipkart as part of a Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) investigation, according to media reports citing official sources.&nbsp;

The ED conducted raids on at least 15 to 16 locations belonging to these vendors, the sources told Hindustan Times.

The central agency conducted these search raids in multiple locations, including Delhi, Gurugram (Haryana), &nbsp;Hyderabad (Telangana), and Bengaluru (Karnataka). The sources said that the operation is linked to financial transactions conducted by “preferred” vendors on the two platforms.&nbsp;

"Known as 'pig-butchering' scams, stock market investment scams entice victims with promises of high returns, using fake websites and misleading WhatsApp groups that appear connected to reputable financial firms," it added.

The ED said that some of the victims of this scam were "manipulated" by fraudsters using fake arrests. Criminals pose as officials from agencies like the Customs Department or the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to coerce victims into transferring large amounts of money by concocting scenarios that falsely implicate them in illegal activities. This method of psychological manipulation can devastate victims financially and emotionally.

The ED's chargesheet, filed on October 10, identifies the eight accused individuals as&nbsp;Charan Raj C, Kiran S K, Shahi Kumar M, Sachin M, Tamilarasan, Prakash R, Ajith R, and Aravindan, and&nbsp;24 associated shell companies. All accused individuals are currently in judicial custody, with the ED alleging that the total proceeds from these cybercrimes amount to an astonishing ₹159 crore.

According to the ED's findings, the perpetrators obtained numerous SIM cards linked to shell company bank accounts, which were then used to create untraceable WhatsApp accounts. The ED claimed its probe revealed that Bankey Bihari Hospital, Fortis Hospital, Balaji Hospital, Sood Nursing Home, and Sri Harihar Hospital availed illegal benefits under the government scheme.

As per news reports, hospitals linked to Congress lawmaker RS Bali and Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu's close aide Rajesh Sharma are also under scanner.

"During the investigation, as many as 373 fake Ayushman cards were identified wherein claims of about Rs 40,68,150 were made for reimbursement from the government in the name of treatments given to the Ayushman card beneficiaries," the ED said.

"List of such fake beneficiaries included the names of Rajnish Kumar (ABPMJAY Card No. PPKZU26H7) and Pooja Dhiman (ABPMJAY Card No. PICHWGI08) who, on verification, even denied possession or any information of any such PMJAY Card," the agency said. "Further, they never underwent any such treatment in any of these hospitals."

The agency said some hospitals even made fake claims of treatments/surgery/admission that were never offered to the patients.

Upon the revelation, several fake beneficiary cards were scrapped by the authorities and the accused hospitals were delisted from the government scheme.

The Delhi chief minister was produced before the court through video conference from Tihar Jail on the expiry of his judicial custody. The court also extended the judicial custody of Vinod Chauhan till July 3.&nbsp;

Representing the Enforcement Directorate, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju argued that Kejriwal had not been summoned as an accused in the case. He added that now a prosecution complaint has been filed and cognisance of the money laundering offence has been taken by the Special Court.

The probing agency told the court that it had evidence of Kejriwal demanding ₹100 crore (approx $12 million) as kickbacks in the now-withdrawn liquor policy. ASG Raju weighed in on Kejriwal's alleged role in the case, saying that he was liable in a personal capacity and also as the chief of AAP.&nbsp;

"He demanded a bribe of ₹100 crore, how can you say he is not prima facie guilty of the offence?," the ED asked.

The counsel appearing for Kejriwal opposed the ED's application seeking an extension of his judicial custody, saying there were no grounds justifying an extension of his custody.&nbsp;

Excise Policy Case: Arvind Kejriwal's judicial custody extended till July 3

Leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Manish Sisodia, was denied bail by the Delhi High Court on Tuesday in connection with proceedings filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over the Delhi excise policy scam case.

Referencing Section 3 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma denied the bail request, stating that the prosecution had established a prima facie case of money laundering.

The Court denied Sisodia's request for bail, stating that his actions amounted to a "great betrayal of democratic principles".

The Court also found that Sisodia destroyed significant evidence, including electronic evidence. The solitary judge in question in this case referred to two allegedly broken mobile phones.

The Court also considered the fact that Sisodia was a top AAP leader, had a prominent position in the Delhi government, managed several ministries, and was an influential figure.

The court said that Sisodia was involved in the crucial destruction of electronic evidence and is an influential person as he is a powerful leader of the party. The court said that the possibility of Sisodia influencing material witnesses cannot be ruled out.

"This court is of the opinion that petitioner has not been able to make out a case for grant of bail in his favour," the judge stated.

The Bench went on to say that Sisodia utilised fraudulent methods to indicate that the Delhi excise policy had public&nbsp;support when, in fact, the policy was designed to benefit only certain people.&nbsp; 
 
The court said that pre-drafted emails&nbsp;were sent “under the guise of public comment by various people under his direction. “Corruption in this case originated from the applicant’s desire to frame the policy. The dissemination of false information by portraying it as a form of feedback constitutes corruption,” the court added.

According to Justice Sharma, Sisodia abused his position and violated the public trust in this instance. The Court stated that neither the CBI nor the ED were responsible for the case's delay. However, the Court disagreed with the trial court's findings that all of the defendants in the case conspired to postpone the trial.

Sisodia's bail request in the CBI and ED charges against him was recently denied by the trial court, which prompted his current petition before the High Court. This is the second round of bail applications filed by Sisodia.

On March 31, 2023, Sisodia's bail request in the CBI case was refused. On April 28, 2023, the trial judge denied his bail plea&nbsp;in the ED case.

The Delhi High Court maintained the trial court's orders, which were further upheld by the Supreme Court in October 2023. However, the Supreme Court stated at the time that Sisodia could apply for bail again if the trial moved too slowly. He then filed a second set of bail pleas.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday (Apr 18) said in a Delhi court that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was deliberately eating mangoes, sweets, and other high-carb food to raise his blood sugar level to build a case for bail.&nbsp;

Special Counsel Zoheb Hossain for ED told Special Judge Rakesh Syal of Rouse Avenue Court that Kejriwal is doing this to create grounds for bail.&nbsp;

The counsel said that the Delhi chief minister has been consuming mangoes, sweets, etc, in jail irrespective of saying that he has high sugar levels.&nbsp;

The&nbsp;matter was made official during the hearing on Thursday, however, chatter about Kejriwal's high-carb diet was trending on social media platforms since Wednesday.&nbsp;

It came to notice after a post on X claimed that&nbsp;one of its source in Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had revealed that Kejriwal is taking high-sugar food deliberately to increase his sugar level so that he can use it as a reason to get bail.&nbsp;

"He is not only forcing jail authorities to give him sugar-laden high glycemic index drinks and food early in the morning but also his family is sending him sugar and carb-laden food so that his blood sugar rises," the post read.&nbsp;

In reaction, Kejriwal's advocate, Vivek Jain opposed the federal agency's submission. He said that the counsel is playing by the gallery and is making statements for the media.&nbsp;

Previously, Kejriwal's lawyers told the courts that the CM was diabetic when he was sent to custody. Kejriwal's counsel had informed the court that his blood sugar level dropped to 46 and argued that in such circumstances, he should be allowed to consult his doctor three times a week via video conferencing.&nbsp;

The court sought a medical report from Tihar Jail authorities on the CM's diet and listed the matter for hearing on Friday after a brief hearing.&nbsp;

"He is not only forcing jail authorities to give him sugar-laden high glycemic index drinks and food early in the morning but also his family is sending him sugar and carb-laden food so that his blood sugar rises," the post read. In reaction, Kejriwal's advocate, Vivek Jain opposed the federal agency's submission. He said that the counsel is playing by the gallery and is making statements for the media. Previously, Kejriwal's lawyers told the courts that the CM was diabetic when he was sent to custody. Kejriwal's counsel had informed the court that his blood sugar level dropped to 46 and argued that in such circumstances, he should be allowed to consult his doctor three times a week via video conferencing. The court sought a medical report from Tihar Jail authorities on the CM's diet and listed the matter for hearing on Friday after a brief hearing. As per media reports, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader's legal counsel was going to raise the matter before Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, around 10:30 am, seeking an urgent hearing.

On Tuesday (Apr 9) the Delhi High Court dismissed Kejriwal's challenge to his March 21 arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).&nbsp;

It said that the central agency was left with "little option" after Kejriwal skipped repeated summons and refused to cooperate with the investigation against him.

The court also chastised the AAP leader for questioning the timing of his arrest just ahead of the general elections and said the investigation against the "classes and masses" cannot be different.

<h2>Opposition calls for Kejriwal's resignation</h2>

On Tuesday, after the High Court rejected his appeal, BJP opposition leader Bansuri Swaraj called for Kejriwal's resignation. She also alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party used ₹100 crore (around $12.15 million) in party activities.&nbsp;

"With today's judgment, the Delhi high court has made it clear that Arvind Kejriwal had a very important role in the liquor scam and being the chief of AAP he was involved in it," said Bansuri.

"Kickbacks worth ₹100 crore were taken in the Excise policy case, which was used by the AAP in its party activities. The court saw all the facts given by ED. The court went through the Hawala transactions. The court saw the statement by the approver," alleged the Bharatiya Janata Party leader.

Tihar authorities denied the Delhi Minister of Education's claim and released a statement on Kejriwal's health. "On arrival on 01.04.2024, Kejriwal was examined by two doctors and all vitals were normal. Also, his weight is constant at 65 kg, since arrival to jail and till date. Home-cooked food is being provided as per Court order. His vital statistics is normal," the statement said.

Atishi has, however, countered Tihar's statement and said that Kejriwal weighed 69.5 kg on the day ED took him into custody.

Indian law enforcement agency, the Enforcement Directorate (ED), has filed a money laundering case against All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra and businessman Darshan Hiranandani in connection with an alleged cash-for-queries scam case, news agency PTI reported on Tuesday (Apr 2) citing official sources.&nbsp;

Moitra, a former Member of Parliament from Krishnanagar seat in the state of West Bengal, was expelled from the Lok Sabha for "unethical conduct" last year in December. However, she challenged her expulsion and moved the Supreme Court.&nbsp;

She has been renominated by the party as its candidate from the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal for the upcoming election.&nbsp;

ED also said that Kejriwal provided false and contradictory evidence (regarding) other members of (his) AAP" during the interrogation. The agency also said that Kejriwal did not reveal the passwords of his digital devices.&nbsp;

According to the probe agency, Kejriwal said that Vijay Nair, one of the accused in the liquor policy case, didn't report to him but to Atishi and Bharadwaj. Nair is the former communication in charge of the AAP.&nbsp;

AAP leader Jasmine Shah said that ED's claim "made me laugh". Shah further added that when Nair was first detained, he already revealed that he did not report to Kejriwal.&nbsp;

The liquor policy case pertains to alleged corruption and money laundering in formulating and executing the Delhi government's excise policy.&nbsp;The Delhi government had implemented the policy on November 17, 2021.&nbsp;It was, however, scrapped at the end of September 2022 amid allegations of corruption, which AAP denies.&nbsp;

The profit margins of wholesalers were increased from 5 per cent to 12 per cent under the new policy,&nbsp;the investigating agencies have claimed.&nbsp;
