Kimmel and Will Arnett appeared on stage to present the award but Kimmel appeared passed out. Arnett quipped to the crown that this is the "13th time in a row that he’s lost and he just got into the skinny margaritas back there."&nbsp; 
 
As Brunson's name was announced for her work in 'Abbott Elementary', Kimmel lay on the ground with Arnett trying to push Kimmel out of the way. Brunson also quipped, "Jimmy, wake up. I won." Kimmel gave her a thumbs-up but continued to lie down on the stage throughout the speech, and it wasn’t until after Brunson was done that Arnett dragged him back off. 
 
Arnett tried to push Kimmel out of the way to make room for the winner, with Brunson telling him, “Jimmy, wake up. I won." For her part, Brunson appeared to be a good sport about the bit, adding the late-night host’s name to the end of her list of thank-you’s. 
 
Later backstage when Brunson was asked about the moment she said it didn't bother her much but that she wasn't sure how the internet would react.&nbsp; 
 
She revealed that Kimmel was the host who provided her first major late-night appearance and had previously told her he considers Abbott Elementary to be one of TV’s great comedies. 
 
"I think in that moment, I was just really happy that it was Jimmy up there,” she told reporters. “I kind of consider him one of the comedy godfathers; I’m a huge fan of Will Arnett, so I was wrapped up in the moment. I don’t know — tomorrow maybe I’ll be mad at him. I’m gonna be on his show on Wednesday, so I might punch him in the face. I don’t know. We'll see what happens.”

While Brunson seem to have taken it sportingly, the internet was not happy with Kimmel's idea of a practical joke.&nbsp;Many felt it didn’t appear to be a respectful decision to remain on the stage during her big moment.

Just like every year, the winner announcements at the just concluded 74th edition of the Emmy Awards also did not please or satisfy everybody. It is safe to say that most TV buffs were miffed with something or other. On social media sites and elsewhere, many viewers have expressed their disappointment and displeasure at some of the decisions the Television Academy jury made while voting for the winners. Some others were pleasantly surprised as well at winners in a few of the categories. For most of its history 'Better Call Saul', a spinoff of 'Breaking Bad', has arguably been the best show on television. The show was supposed to be a story of a decent man becoming a poorer, sleazier version of himself largely through his own action. But the show became so much more, so much more than even its predecessor. While its second volume will compete in next year's Emmys, it is still incredible to think that the show has not won a single 'major' Emmy to date (excluding Creative Arts Emmys), and that includes the part of its superb final season.

If not Bob Odenkirk, at least Rhea Seehorn deserved an Emmy for her consistently committed performance in a show that did not revolve around her character but that she still made her own.&nbsp;

It must be noted that this year only part 1 of the show was considered for this year's awards. Part 2 will contest next year.&nbsp;

This is a pleasant surprise as 'Ted Lasso' served as a balm to many a tortured soul during the Covid-19 pandemic. When the world was suffering, the show gave that warm, fuzzy feeling of togetherness. And with its second season, the show proved that it had more depth than earlier expected. Sudeikis has led the show like a true leader, giving other talented actors ample opportunity to shine instead of hogging all the space like many others would have done.

All in all, 'The White Lotus' ruled the night with 5 wins, followed by 'Ted Lasso' with 4 trophies, and 'Succession' with 3. Now, these are all great shows and these wins are not upsets as such (though 'Better Call Saul' should have swept the ceremony in this scribe's opinion). And of course, it is a matter of subjective opinion. But these decisions do echo the rest of the ceremony -- the monologue, the antics of people like Cedric the Entertainer, and so on.

The ceremony already did not have the prestige of Academy Awards and the laxity and booziness of the Golden Globes (that allows for 'oops' moments nearly every year) and the Television Academy clearly played it too safe. The jokes were not only a few and far between but also not funny. They also felt like the NBC and the organisers were afraid to offend their audience's sensibilities and the gags written by whatever comedians they had were perused for anything remotely provocative. It is not that everything has to be saturated in contemporary politics, but everything had an air of being monitored for anything thrilling.

This opening was not just tepid, it was in-your-face offensive. You know, I would rather watch all the nominated shows in one sitting than endure such shoddy television.

A realisation strikes me that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was really onto something when the organisation held this year's Golden Globes without any televised ceremony.&nbsp;

Emmys 2022: Everything you need to know about the event

South Korea's 'Squid Game' is bidding to make Emmys history Monday by becoming the first foreign-language television show to win top honors for best drama.

The Netflix show -- in which misfits and criminals compete for cash in barbaric and deadly versions of schoolyard games -- is aiming to emulate the success of Oscar-winning South Korean movie 'Parasite' with a triumph at TV's top prize gala.

But it faces tough competition from previous winner 'Succession,' the tale of a family vying for control of a media empire -- rife with Shakespearean backstabbing -- that earned the most nominations overall at 25.

"It's pretty hard to go against that HBO juggernaut," said Pete Hammond, awards columnist for Hollywood publication Deadline.

Experts polled by awards prediction site Gold Derby have tipped 'Succession'&nbsp;as the favorite.

"I do think ('Squid Game') is going to win best actor," noted Hammond -- an outcome that would make Lee Jung-jae the category's first winner for a non-English performance.

Other shows contending for the night's top drama prizes include Apple TV+ dystopian workplace series 'Severance,' starring Adam Scott, and the final season of Netflix's much-lauded crime saga 'Ozark.'

Zendaya, who became the youngest-ever best actress winner two years ago for HBO's hard-hitting teen drama 'Euphoria,'&nbsp;is tipped to repeat.&nbsp;

Offering some fresh blood are the nominees in the limited series section, which honors shows capped at a single season.

The show -- which is bending Emmy rules having returned for a second season, albeit with a largely new cast and location -- has a whopping eight acting nominations, including for Jennifer Coolidge.

"I think Michael Keaton has got a lock on actor in a limited series" for 'Dopesick'," said Hammond, while Amanda Seyfried's turn as disgraced Theranos boss Elizabeth Holmes in "The Dropout" is expected to prove popular.
