The Guardian, a major British newspaper, on Wednesday (Nov 13) said that it has decided to stop posting on the social media platform X, calling it a “toxic media platform.”

The publication in a statement told its readers that it no longer sees value in maintaining its presence on X, explaining that “often disturbing content” has become more common on the platform. "We wanted to let readers know that we will no longer post on any official Guardian editorial accounts on the social media site X," the British media outlet said.

The statement added, "This is something we have been considering for a while given the often disturbing content promoted or found on the platform, including far-right conspiracy theories and racism."

The Guardian said that the recent United States presidential campaign solidified their concerns.&nbsp;"The US presidential election campaign served only to underline what we have considered for a long time: that X is a toxic media platform and that its owner, Elon Musk, has been able to use its influence to shape political discourse."

“We think that the benefits of being on X are now outweighed by the negatives and that resources could be better used promoting our journalism elsewhere,” the Guardian added.

While the Guardian will no longer be posting on X, it said that readers can still share Guardian articles on the platform. Additionally, the organisation may still “embed content from X” in articles when necessary for “live news reporting.”

Its primary handle, @guardian, remained accessible as of Wednesday, though it carried a message stating, “this account has been archived,” with a link directing users to the Guardian’s website.

With its 10.7 million followers on X, the Guardian has become the first prominent UK media outlet to leave the platform since Elon Musk acquired it in 2022 for $44 billion.

"Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies," Trump said in a statement.

Musk became a key ally to Trump during his campaign, reportedly spending well over $100 million to help the Republican win and repeatedly boosting Trump's candidacy on X, the platform which he owns.

The 78-year-old Republican is set to make a triumphant return to Washington on Wednesday, meeting President Joe Biden in the Oval Office.

He may also visit the US Capitol where his party has won a narrow majority in the Senate and is poised to retain control of the House of Representatives.

With just over two months until he takes office, Trump is moving quickly to consolidate an extraordinary comeback.

The internet is amazing. I can write something sitting in a cafe in Delhi, or a train station in Budapest, and reach people around the world. But I think you're asking a more specific question about internet virality. There are parts I can control and parts I cannot. Here are 3 things I can control: volume, experimentation, and relevance. I have tweeted more than 21,000 times - that's close to a million words. So - volume is important. Before Twitter I was uploading content on Youtube and Instagram - so I've experimented a fair bit with different formats. And then there's relevance: when the trailer for the Napoleon movie came out in 2023, and became a talking point on Twitter, I immediately uploaded a thread on Napoleon - and got a reply from Elon. But I could not have done the thread if I hadn't been reading Napoleon's private letters for years before!&nbsp;

Historian Stephen Meyer says there are some very weird gaps in the evolution of life. There are sudden explosions in new species, sudden increases in the size and capacity of the human brain - from 1 to 100 with nothing in between. Explosions and improvements so sudden that the normal evolutionary process, which takes millions of years, just can't explain them. He's saying there was some extraterrestrial influence. Very baffling idea - but he's a brilliant guy and makes his case really well. &nbsp;

You were recently a speaker at Brainbar. What did you speak about there? &nbsp;

Brainbar is an incredible conference based out of Budapest, Hungary. Thousands of high school and college students come each year to hear talks on technology, history, and much more. This year they were kind enough to invite me for a keynote address. My talk's title was "5 Modern Mistakes." It will be out soon!&nbsp;

There was an appearance that the Democratic regime was trying to send Trump to jail over a number of cases: election subversion related to the Capitol riots of 6 January 2021, tax-related lawsuits and the Stormy Daniels affair being prominent among them. But each court appearance made him a star in the eyes of his supporters, who only grew in numbers as the cases dragged on. Trump called it a 'witch hunt', as it was pretty clear that none of these would lead to any logical conclusion, for fear of upsetting presidential immunity. Had Trump been jailed (if he lost the election), that would have set the precedent of future governments prosecuting past presidents. Trump played the victim card to the hilt, which appears to have appealed to more voters than Democrats expected.

As the final electoral results map shows, this helped him cut into the so-called blue states, essentially breaking the votes from north to south in the middle of America, leaving the Democratic contender Kamala Harris with only the more liberal states in the east and west coasts. While Democrats felt abortion was a major issue that would swing women against Trump, it appears that many women disagreed.

<h2>9. Knowing the pulse of working class on immigration, economy</h2>

By amplifying the concerns about slow job growth, illegal migration&nbsp;and urban blight, Trump was able to add more supporters from non-white communities too. Hispanics in the country were equally fearful of the migration caravans coming in from Latin America as much as the white majority. Because one, it disrupted their lives and exposed them to racist attacks. And two, illegal migrants were competition for them. Many Latinos who voted for Trump may have carefully considered these issues before making that decision. With the African American community too, there appears to have been a shift, albeit minor. Those Blacks who voted for Trump were basically doing a protest vote against the Democrats, who they felt appeared to lecture them. Every election season, leaders like Barack Obama and Michelle Obama appeal to the Black community, even as Democratic governments did not make their lives any better. At least that was the perception among the pro-Trump Blacks, who voted in hopes that any improvement in the economy under Trump would help them get jobs.

It might sound improbable, but Trump's non-committal stance on banning TikTok, the Chinese-owned video-sharing platform massively loved by American youth, may have contributed to his appeal among Gen Z. Many TikTokers and TikTok users hated the Biden administration for the ban move. At a desperate moment, Biden himself joined TikTok even amid these moves, but it was far too little, too late. Trump supporters amplified his views and stances on various issues through TikTok as well as other social media apps.

Contrary to market pundits' expectations, Truth Social took off massively as the platform to share pro-Trump and Conservative views. When Trump rejected a platform, he created his own.

Towards the final lap of his campaign, Musk became an open supporter of Trump and addressed his rallies. For Musk, it was a desperate moment, as he feared Harris, if elected, would have folded up X. Add to this the legacy media's unwillingness to endorse Harris, Los Angeles Times and Washington Post being the most prominent examples.

Money speaks in American politics, and having a lot of it is helpful. Trump practically ran most of his campaign out of his own pocket, with the erstwhile mass donors like super PACs not emerging as key players unlike in past elections. Trump's wealth, fuelled mainly by the growth of Truth Social was listed in stock exchanges in March this year and helped bankroll a major part of his campaign, along with some super donors. Clearly, having the richest man in the world Elon Musk by his side may have helped things too.

The CEO of Tesla, billionaire Elon Musk and one of the biggest supporters of president-elect Donald Trump, has been probably the most active unofficial Trump campaigner on X, which is also owned by Musk. He has shared a lot of videos, and posts and even replied to some during and after the US presidential election.

In the hope of getting a response from Musk, the staunch supporter of the Republican candidate, an Indian man took to X and asked him to ensure there were H-1B visa reforms, not that Trump had won the election.

“Dear @elonmusk, Congratulations on winning the election! It took you 10 years to obtain citizenship in the USA, including your undergraduate and master's studies. You moved to the US in 1992 and became a US citizen in 2002,” Sanjeev Ranjan wrote on X. “Please do justice for Indian-born H-1B visas.”

Though Musk didn’t reply to the post, it garnered support from many other Indians in the comment section who resonated with the X user.

“So many are stuck in this problem, unfortunately. And there is a lot of misinformation about this and particular hate for this visa,” one user wrote.&nbsp;

“Revive the American dream! The infinite wait time for legal immigrants for Indian born is a nightmare. I invented a concrete product that will benefit the USA, and being on H1B, I'm stuck and can not pursue my dreams because of the complex legal immigration,” another user commented.&nbsp;

One said, “Also Indians are not eligible to apply for permanent resident status through the Diversity Visa LOTTERY. At least make ALL nationalities eligible for the LOTTERY if they spend hundreds of thousands of $ on their Ungergrad / grad / PhD programs (say $200k spent in total on FEES)”.&nbsp;

As per a Washington Post report published earlier, Musk briefly worked illegally in the US after he abandoned a graduate studies program in California.&nbsp;

“Even if he’s only in office for 4 years, even if the anti-trans regulations magically don’t happen, the people who willingly voted this in are not going anywhere anytime soon,” she added.

Vivan earlier severed ties with her father after accusing Musk of being “cruel” and “cold” and said he always harassed her for her effeminate traits.
