In 2022, Wilson had filed a plea in California to change her name and also denounced her father in the process. “I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form,” she was quoted as saying in the court filing. “I would like to emphasise one thing: I am an adult. I am 20 years old. I am not a child. My life should be defined by my own choices," said Wilson to NBC News. Here's what Elon Musk said Musk made a shocking statement when he figuratively said that his son has been killed by "the woke mind virus" after he got "tricked" and allowed his child to access puberty blockers. Elon Musk threw down the gauntlet and challenged the Meta CEO to a cage match last year. Zuckerberg accepted the challenge, but the epic showdown never happened. Now, more than a year later, Musk said that he’s again open to fighting - this time on Zuckerberg’s terms.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has initiated a poll on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, asking users whether the electric vehicle giant should invest USD 5 billion in his artificial intelligence startup, xAI. This bold proposition comes at a critical juncture for Tesla, which recently reported its lowest profit margin in five years due to aggressive price cuts and increased spending on AI projects.

The poll, launched by Musk, quickly gained traction with over 386,000 participants in just three hours, showing a strong 70% support for the proposed investment. However, Musk was quick to clarify that this poll is merely "to test the waters," emphasising that both board approval and a shareholder vote would be necessary for any such investment to materialise.

This potential move intersects with Tesla's ongoing efforts in autonomous driving and AI integration. During Tesla's recent earnings call, Musk highlighted potential synergies between xAI and Tesla, suggesting that xAI could be "helpful in advancing full self-driving and in building up the new Tesla data centre." He also hinted at the possibility of integrating xAI's chatbot, Grok, with Tesla's software ecosystem.

The timing of this poll is particularly noteworthy, coming on the heels of Tesla's challenging financial report. The company's decision to cut prices and increase AI-related expenditures has put pressure on its profit margins, raising questions about the wisdom of a substantial investment in an external AI venture at this time.

Musk's xAI, launched in 2023, positions itself as an alternative to ChatGPT and has already attracted significant investor interest. The startup recently raised USD 6 billion in a Series B funding round, achieving a post-money valuation of USD 24 billion. Prominent backers include Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia Capital, underscoring the high expectations for xAI in the competitive AI landscape.

Adding another layer of complexity to this potential investment is Musk's previous statement about his plans for xAI ownership. He has indicated that a quarter of xAI would be owned by investors in X, the social media platform he acquired for USD 44 billion. This interconnected ownership structure raises questions about potential conflicts of interest and the allocation of resources across Musk's various ventures.

During the Tesla earnings call, Musk addressed concerns about resource diversion from Tesla to his other companies. He dismissed these worries, though a recent CNBC report claimed that Musk had redirected thousands of AI chips originally destined for Tesla to xAI and X, citing Tesla's data centre capacity constraints.

This is not the first time Musk has used X polls to gauge public opinion on major business decisions. In 2021, he famously polled users about selling 10% of his Tesla stake, a move that preceded actual share sales just days later. This pattern of decision-making through social media polls has drawn both praise for its transparency and criticism for potentially bypassing traditional corporate governance structures.

As the poll continues to gather responses, the tech and financial worlds are closely watching the outcome and its potential implications. The proposed USD 5 billion investment, if realised, would represent a significant shift in Tesla's strategy, potentially accelerating its AI capabilities but also raising questions about resource allocation and corporate focus.

After the failed assassination attempt of United States' former president Donald Trump, Tesla and X CEO Elon Musk has now come up with a bizarre plan of creating an Iron Man-style suit of armour to keep the Republican presidential nominee safe. Musk shared this idea of making the flying metal suit after Trump faced an assassination attempt on Saturday (Jul 13). The Tesla CEO had also alleged facing similar attempts twice in his life. While addressing a rally in Pennsylvania, bullets were suddenly fired towards Trump which grazed his right ear, killed one person in the crowd and left two others critically injured. The shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, opened fire during the campaign rally. Morning news brief: Biden drops another gaffe; Musk donates to Trump; and more

Tech billionaire Elon Musk's X platform is deceiving users with its blue checkmarks for certified accounts, and is also violating EU content rules, Brussels said Friday, in a finding that could lead to hefty fines.

EU regulators are unhappy with changes Musk made to the blue badge system since anyone can now obtain it via a premium subscription, whereas previously it was reserved for verified accounts including leaders, companies and journalists, and subject to approval.

Musk overhauled the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, including changing its name, after purchasing it in October 2022.

But his plans for X have put him at odds with Brussels since the EU wants big tech to do more to protect users online and increase competition in the digital sphere.

Now, the European Commission has informed X of its preliminary view that it is "in breach" of the bloc's Digital Services Act (DSA), arguing that the social network "deceives" users with its new blue badge rules.

"Since anyone can subscribe to obtain such a 'verified' status, it negatively affects users' ability to make free and informed decisions about the authenticity of the accounts and the content they interact with," the commission said in a statement.

"There is evidence of motivated malicious actors abusing the 'verified account' to deceive users," it added.

X's chief executive Linda Yaccarino pushed back at the charge in a post on the platform, arguing that "a democratized system, allowing everyone across Europe to access verification, is better than just the privileged few being verified."

EU regulators' wide-ranging probe into X also continues to look into the spread of illegal content and the effectiveness of the platform's efforts to combat disinformation, the commission said.

Musk lashed out at Brussels in a post on X, accusing Brussels of offering it a deal to censor speech.

"The DSA IS misinformation!" he wrote in reply to a senior EU official.

"The European Commission offered X an illegal secret deal: if we quietly censored speech without telling anyone, they would not fine us. The other platforms accepted that deal. X did not," he claimed.

Contacted by AFP, the commission declined to comment on the allegation.

Tech in its sights

The formal warning against X is the first under the DSA, a sweeping law that forces digital companies to do more to police content online. It follows a probe launched in December 2023.

X becomes the third company in as many weeks to face the European Union's wrath for violating landmark new rules, after Brussels warned Apple and Meta to change their ways or risk massive fines -- for breaches of a second law known as the Digital Markets Act (DMA).

The commission also accused X of failing to comply with rules on advertising transparency -- since it does "not provide a searchable and reliable" ad database -- and failing to give researchers access to public data.

"X has now the right of defence -- but if our view is confirmed we will impose fines and require significant changes," the EU's top digital official, Thierry Breton, said.

Fines under the DSA can go as high as six per cent of a company's total worldwide annual turnover and force it to make changes to address violations.

X will be able to examine the EU's file and defend itself against Friday's finding.

There is no time limit on the investigation.

Under the DSA, X is subject to stricter regulations as one of 25 "very large" online platforms, including Facebook and TikTok, with more than 45 million monthly active users in the 27-country EU. X is also in the EU's crosshairs for cutting its content moderation resources. In May, the EU told X to hand over "detailed information and internal documents" and demanded more information about steps taken to mitigate risks from generative AI in elections.

There are currently other investigations under the DSA into Meta's Facebook and Instagram as well as TikTok and AliExpress.

The DSA and the DMA are both part of the EU's bolstered legal armoury targeting big tech, and EU regulators have stepped up enforcement.

The fee, which is a fraction of the value claimed to have been created for Tesla after January’s court ruling that terminated Musk’s compensation package, has provoked resistance from Tesla’s lawyers and thousands of shareholders. Reed further argued that the ruling had in fact lessened the value of Tesla through provoking stock price fluctuations brought about by the uncertainty over Musk’s position.

Greg Varallo, representing Tornetta, argued for the requested fee by stating that it is quite reasonable in light of legal standards that permit up to 33% for the benefit conferred and the company’s role in the transaction. He emphasised the historical significance of the January ruling which was the largest non-Punitive damages award by an American Court and recommended a fee award that will ensure lawyers protect small investors.

The issues discussed in the cases prior to Chancellor McCormick remain significant in shareholder litigation and corporate governance with referencing en masse the Enron class action case. It would be the largest fee ever for three law firms who have achieved what was considered impossible – defeating Elon Musk’s USD 56 billion pay package at Tesla, in order to turn the tables and explain to corporate boards why they have to constantly worry about having lawyers on their back, as was stated in the Delaware court on Monday.

While tech firms within the 'Magnificent 7' stocks are witnessing a great upswing, Tesla has experienced an equally historic downfall. The company has lost a quarter of its value in 2024 and is the worst-performing stock on the S&P 500.

Tesla's June-quarter deliveries fell 3.7 per cent, according to Reuters. This marks the first time Tesla has posted two straight quarters of decline. Tesla has faced multiple issues, along with troubles in China and slowing demand. Consumers are reportedly shifting to cheaper hybrid options, which has left Tesla's expensive inventory in the dust.
Elon Musk, the controversial CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, finds himself at the centre of a growing storm following allegations of drug use that could potentially threaten his leadership positions. A recent Wall Street Journal report has ignited a firestorm of speculation and concern among investors, board members, and industry observers.

The report, citing unnamed sources close to Musk's inner circle, claims that the billionaire entrepreneur has allegedly used a variety of substances, including LSD, cocaine, ecstasy, and psychedelic mushrooms. While concrete evidence of these claims remains elusive, the allegations have nonetheless sent shockwaves through the business world and raised questions about Musk's fitness to lead two of the most innovative companies in the tech and automotive sectors.

This isn't the first time Musk's behaviour has come under scrutiny. His public marijuana use during an appearance on Joe Rogan's podcast in 2018 caused significant controversy, particularly given SpaceX's contracts with NASA, which maintains a strict no-drug policy for its contractors. The incident highlighted the delicate balance Musk must strike between his public persona and his responsibilities as a CEO of multiple high-profile companies.

The WSJ report suggests that Musk's alleged drug use may have already had tangible consequences within Tesla's leadership. Former Tesla director Linda Johnson-Rice reportedly chose not to seek re-election to the board in 2019, purportedly due to frustrations with Musk's behaviour and concerns about his alleged substance use. This claim, if true, underscores the potential for Musk's personal conduct to impact corporate governance and stability.

For Tesla and SpaceX, the stakes are high. Both companies have achieved remarkable success under Musk's leadership, but they also rely heavily on his vision and public image. The allegations of drug use, if substantiated, could violate company policies and potentially jeopardise important contracts and partnerships, particularly in the case of SpaceX's relationship with NASA.

The situation raises complex questions for Tesla's board and shareholders. As a publicly traded company, Tesla has a fiduciary duty to act in the best interests of its shareholders. If Musk's behaviour is deemed detrimental to the company's success or reputation, the board may face pressure to take action. However, Musk's role as a driving force behind Tesla's innovation and market position complicates any potential decision to limit his influence or remove him from leadership.

This isn't the first time Musk's actions have led to consequences. In 2018, his infamous "funding secured" tweet about taking Tesla private resulted in SEC fines and his removal as chairman of the Tesla board. While he retained his position as CEO, the incident demonstrated that even Musk is not immune to oversight and regulation.

In response to the WSJ article, Musk took to his social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to dismiss the allegations. With his characteristic blend of humour and defiance, he joked that if drugs actually improved his productivity, he "would definitely take them." He further criticised the Wall Street Journal's reporting, claiming that even celebrity gossip outlet TMZ has "higher standards."

As the situation unfolds, Tesla and SpaceX stakeholders will be watching closely for any developments that could impact the companies' operations or stock prices. The allegations have reignited debates about corporate governance, the role of charismatic leaders in tech companies, and the balance between personal freedom and professional responsibility.

For now, Musk remains at the helm of both Tesla and SpaceX, but the controversy surrounding these allegations is unlikely to dissipate quickly. As more information comes to light, it may force board members, investors, and regulators to grapple with difficult questions about leadership, accountability, and the future of two of the most innovative companies in the world.
