<p>Ellie Goulding&nbsp;announced she was expecting a baby last month, while 30 weeks pregnant. Now, the singer has opened up about the reason why she chose to keep her happy news private for a long time.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In an&nbsp;interview with The Telegraph, the singer felt the time wasn't right to share the good news between her many projects and the coronavirus pandemic.</p>

<p>"I needed time to get my head around it," Goulding said, noting it "still feels strange" to say she'll be a mom soon. "Last year I released an album [Brightest Blue] and I'd finished writing a book [Calmer, Fitter Stronger]."</p>

<p>"Then, after living in lockdown, walking around in my husband's big coats to hide my bump and living in different places in Oxfordshire and London, we moved into a new house," she continued. "Our house. It felt like we had these proper roots and it was the right moment to say something -- I'd also just bought a new bath that I was very proud to show off in the photographs!"<br />

I sit and wonder when factors such as industry relationships, internal politics, and magazine covers started being rewarded before the music itself,” she writes. “I sit and wonder about the ways in which artists in other fields — fine art, dance, film — are identified and praised for their notable bodies of work, not because of their notable bodies or working relationships.”</p>

<p>“From my perspective, there is nothing greater than listening to a song or an album that has saved you, inspired you, evoked deep emotion in some new sort of way… and then see it get the attention and award it deserves,” she writes. “At the same time, there is always a crushing, horrible feeling for my peers and friends who don’t get acknowledged, by the very same system, for their work year-after-year despite making music I and many others believe is ground-breaking.</p>

<p>“When this crushing feeling returns each year, I turn to my loyal fans,” she continues. “Through the love and relentless support of these fans, along with an enormous amount of luck, I have amassed what I see to be a notable body of work in this industry — in the form of many millions of album sales, many billions of streams, and three platinum albums and hopefully many more. But — while this gives me so much to be positive about and, so importantly to me, a platform to make change in this world — it still, apparently, does not qualify me, or my peers with the same reception, for formal recognition from my industry.”</p>

<p>She also raises questions regarding the selection of the winner and how the jury comes to a conclusion: “What constitutes the worthiness of an award? This is not rhetorical; I would love to know an answer. I would love to know if what I have done throughout my career, and what so many other artists have done throughout theirs, in receiving a certain level of critical reception, does not qualify for some sort of formal recognition, then what does?”</p>

<p>Singer Ellie Goulding, actor Imelda Staunton, and model Daisy Lowe were among celebrities demanding that the governments act on climate change in a video campaign launched by Extinction Rebellion on Sunday ahead of Britain's December&nbsp;12 general election.</p>

<p>Extinction Rebellion launched in London a year ago, inspiring waves of colourful, disruptive actions around the world to call for rapid cuts in carbon emissions and the repair of collapsing ecosystems. Thousands of people have been arrested during protests.</p>

<p>The group's emphasis on the role that culture can play in shaping attitudes towards the twin climate and ecological crises has drawn support from a range of leading names from the worlds of music, fashion, art, and film.</p>

<p>The new video&nbsp;was created in a collaboration between film-maker Richard Curtis and Rankin, a creative agency headed by the British photographer of the same name. It features people aged 8 to 80 demanding a halt to the destruction of forests and oceans and the loss of plant, insect and animal species.</p>

<p>"Time has run out. It's act now or face almost unimaginable consequences for life on Earth," said British television presenter and naturalist Chris Packham.</p>

<p>"So if the drivers of change are asleep at the wheel, it's time to shake and wake them with one hand and to empower ourselves to make our own differences with the other," Packham said.</p>

<p>Among the best-known actors to feature in the film is Jim Carter. He played Mr. Carson the butler in 'Downton Abbey', a film and television series that won numerous awards for its portrayal of British aristocratic life in the early 20th century.</p>

<p>Other celebrities include Camilla Thurlow, who appeared in British hit reality series 'Love Island', film and television director Stephen Frears, and actor Jaime Winstone.</p>
