The doctor who was assaulted told PTI, "Late Saturday night, around 1:00 am, a patient with a forehead injury was brought to the hospital. I took him to the dressing room to stitch the wound. After I finished the first stitch and was working on the second, the patient suddenly pushed me and began hurling abuses.

"His son, who was outside the room, came in, slapped me and they both started abusing me further." According to the doctor, who requested anonymity, the patient was intoxicated.

A US man and his wife are suing a hospital for negligence after the staff lost a piece of his skull and later charged him more than $19,000 for a synthetic replacement when they could not find it, according to a report in the&nbsp;NY Post.

The man, identified as Fernando Cluster, had checked in to Emory University Hospital in September 2022 after he was diagnosed with a brain haemorrhage. Cluster underwent a successful procedure where a part of his skull (4.7-by-5.9-inch) was removed by the doctors.&nbsp;

Cluster was supposed to have the nearly 28-square-inch piece of his skull&nbsp;reimplanted&nbsp;about a month and a half later when the swelling had subsided.&nbsp;However, when Cluster arrived at the hospital in November for the procedure, the staff could not identify the section of his skull.&nbsp;

“We inspected the freezer where bone flaps are stored and could not find a bone flap with Mr Cluster’s patient identification,” read Cluster’s medical file.

“There were several bone flaps with incomplete or missing patient identification, but we could not be certain which if any of these belonged to Mr&nbsp;Cluster.”

By the end of the month, the newly fabricated bone had been placed in Cluster's head but not before he was charged $19,000 by the hospital staff for what they had allegedly lost.&nbsp;

However, Cluster's problems did not go away with the cyborg implant. He contracted an infection afterwards and needed additional surgery which left him unable to walk for some time.&nbsp;

“Mr Cluster subsequently suffered an infection in the synthetic flap, thereby necessitating an additional surgery,” the complaint noted.

“While my clients are obviously upset that they and their insurance company were billed for the costs related to Emory’s negligence, I’m sure you can understand that their focus is on the egregiousness of Emory losing a part of his body and then having a flippant attitude about it afterwards,” Cluster’s attorney Chloe Dallair said.

Cluster has demanded that the hospital compensate him for the damages after a jury trial.&nbsp;

The incident comes days after a trainee doctor at a Kolkata hospital was brutally raped and murdered - leading to nationwide outrage.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The incident took place at Sion Hospital in the early hours of Sunday around 3:30 am local time. A group of five to six intoxicated men threatened the&nbsp;on-call residents in the ward. One of them, the woman doctor, sustained injuries while defending herself, according to media reports.&nbsp;

The attendants along with the patient, fled the scene after the incident. The patient&nbsp;had arrived at&nbsp;the hospital for treatment after suffering injuries on his face.&nbsp;

The female doctor has given her statement at Sion Police Station and the process of filing the FIR (First Information Report) was underway.&nbsp;

Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) condemned the incident and implored the government to ensure the safety and security of the doctors.&nbsp;

The association also confirmed the chain of events that transpired on Sunday and added that it was an "alarming incident" that highlighted significant security failure.

Notably, after citizens took out a protest against the heinous incident, a group of miscreants barged into the hospital and destroyed the property.&nbsp;

German authorities arrested a doctor in Berlin who allegedly killed four elderly patients in&nbsp;separate incidents and then set their homes on fire to cover up the evidence.

"When he realized this, he allegedly informed a relative of the woman and claimed that he was standing in front of her flat and that nobody was answering his doorbell," police said.

The two more murders took place on July 15 and 24, resulting in the deaths of a 72-year-old and 94-year-old patient, respectively.

Doctors in India's Visakhapatnam performed a rare surgery on a 39-year-old man who got a 12-inch stick stuck into his eyes after falling from a height. The stick even entered the lower part of the victim's brain, thus resulting in the loss of vision.

The incident happened on June 4 in Guramdorapalem of Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam. The man, identified as 39-year-old Meesala Nageswara Rao, fell from the first floor of his house.

Following the incident, the man was rushed to King George Hospital (KGH) where a team of doctors, ophthalmologists, neurosurgeons, orthopaedic doctors, ENT doctors, and anaesthetists examined him and advised him to undergo surgery to get the stick removed.

This is the first time that this has been introduced in the hospitals. This has been done to cut on patient wait time and long queues.

All the concerned doctors have to mandatory reach the hospital and do their biometric verification to log their attendance and start the OPD schedule. The notice has been issued to key hospitals like KEM, Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and General Hospital, BYL Nair and RN Cooper in Mumbai.

The BMC circular states, “Commencing at 8:00 am, all major medical municipal hospitals will enforce mandatory biometric registration for doctors upon entry and exit. This biometric attendance system will be intricately tied to the salary of every doctor through SAP.”

Dr Shinde says, “This was one of the oldest issues in the public hospitals, absence or unavailability of senior doctors on time leading to patients waiting for long hours. This tardiness contributes to a backlog, causing patients to endure long queues. This situation further inconveniences patients who have travelled from distant areas.”

All the four hospitals see a footfall of over 10,000 patients from various parts of Maharashtra. And majority of them travel from locations outside Mumbai, approximately 50-60 km.

“If doctors and concerned department are late and not on time, then registration and documentation takes time. And beyond 1 pm, they are turned away as the OPD hours concludes. This always leads to delay in treatment as well,” says concerned official from the health department.

Installing biometric system will lead doctors to improve their time-management, matching their schedules with the convenience of patients rather than their commitments to other work.

US: Fully intact fly found in man's intestine during routine screening, leaves him stumped

In a shocking incident, a doctor left four women unattended for four hours after sedating them at a government-aided tubectomy camp organised in Khat village, Nagpur. 
 
The patients were administered anaesthesia by the surgeon after which he went on the long tea break and left the patients in the makeshift operation theatre. 
 
The surgeon stated that he left because he suffered a hypoglycemic attack due to diabetes. The government panel initiated an inquiry into the incident so that the matter could be investigated. 
 
All the eight operations which were scheduled to take place in the camp ended successfully, however, it remained unclear if the remaining four operations were completed by the same surgeon.

The surgeon, identified as Dr Bhalavi, came back to the primary health centre, where they had organised the camp after the district officials were alerted by the villagers. 
 
The doctor is associated with a rural hospital in Parseoni and was given the task of visiting the camp. An inquiry team visited the primary health centre located at Mouda tehsil on Tuesday (Oct 7) and recorded statements of the surgeon and staff.

As per the statement, the surgeon is diabetic and had gone out to drink tea after he suffered a hypoglycemic attack. 
 
As per the locals, the doctor felt uneasiness and hence, drove off to Nagpur while leaving the patients unattended.

"The surgeon left at 2.30 pm and returned at night to complete the operations," stated Tushar Kunjekar, a resident of Khat, as reported by The Times of India. 
 
On November 3, eight surgeries had to be done in the camp which included seven tubectomies and one vasectomy. The public health department has been holding camps regularly at the primary health centres for the flagship family planning programme of the central government. 
 
A three-member investigation panel was set up by District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Ajay Dawle after the incident. "All eight operations were successful. A thorough inquiry will reveal facts," he stated, without giving further details. 
 
However, he did not clarify if the remaining four operations were completed by the same surgeon. 
 
A top health official confirmed that the doctor is a diabetic patient. "He was feeling uneasy after performing four operations and asked for tea, which the PHC staff could not provide. He is likely to have suffered from hypoglycemia," the official stated, as reported by the newspaper.

In a shocking incident, a doctor left four women unattended for four hours after sedating them at a government-aided tubectomy camp organised in Khat village, Nagpur. The patients were administered anaesthesia by the surgeon after which he went on the long tea break and left the patients in the makeshift operation theatre. The surgeon stated that he left because he suffered a hypoglycemic attack due to diabetes. The government panel initiated an inquiry into the incident so that the matter could be investigated. All the eight operations which were scheduled to take place in the camp ended successfully, however, it remained unclear if the remaining four operations were completed by the same surgeon. The doctor is associated with a rural hospital in Parseoni and was given the task of visiting the camp. An inquiry team visited the primary health centre located at Mouda tehsil on Tuesday (Oct 7) and recorded statements of the surgeon and staff. Surgeon claims he suffered hypoglycemic attack As per the statement, the surgeon is diabetic and had gone out to drink tea after he suffered a hypoglycemic attack. As per the locals, the doctor felt uneasiness and hence, drove off to Nagpur while leaving the patients unattended. On November 3, eight surgeries had to be done in the camp which included seven tubectomies and one vasectomy. The public health department has been holding camps regularly at the primary health centres for the flagship family planning programme of the central government. A three-member investigation panel was set up by District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Ajay Dawle after the incident. "All eight operations were successful. A thorough inquiry will reveal facts," he stated, without giving further details. However, he did not clarify if the remaining four operations were completed by the same surgeon. A top health official confirmed that the doctor is a diabetic patient. "He was feeling uneasy after performing four operations and asked for tea, which the PHC staff could not provide. He is likely to have suffered from hypoglycemia," the official stated, as reported by the newspaper. (With inputs from agencies)

The motive behind this "completely unexpected" crime is not yet clear. The assailant, Miles Joseph Fridrich (24) has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

Dr Talat Jehan Khan, a mother of two, was sitting with her dog outside her apartment when Fridrich stabbed her multiple times, said police according to reports in local media.

“This is an immeasurable loss for our family, completely unexpected,” said Khan's niece Mahnoor Mangrio as quoted by KHOU, a local television station.

"She’s a Muslim, strong in her faith, those are identifiable traits about her. She’s extremely loving, kind. She was my aunt … the best aunt.”

It was not immediately clear why did Fridrich kill her. He reportedly attacked her around 12:30 pm at the Alys Apartments and then fled on foot. Khan died on the spot. The killer was later arrested based on a description provided by witnesses of the crime.

KHOU quoted a suspect who said Fridrich “came out of nowhere”

“I was outside and I heard a woman out there, and I heard that she was screaming,” the witness told the station. “She was sitting at the picnic table.”

“She liked to see the sun and warm weather, so that was one of the main reasons why she moved here,” said Wajahat Nyaz, brother of Dr Khan told television channel KPRC as he described why she moved to Texas from Seattle.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations in Houston has released a statement about the crime and has said that it was “paying very close attention” to the investigation.&nbsp;

“We are unsure at this moment if this was a hate crime, however given the tragic circumstances, we are paying very close attention to the investigation,” said the statement.

“We will continue to monitor the situation while we launch our own investigation and continue established dialogue with law enforcement.”

Dr Khan has left behind a 14-year-old daughter and a 23-year-old son.

“Her kids and the&nbsp;kids she looked after as a pediatrician were her entire life,” Nyaz also said. “Everything in her life revolved around those two things.”

The family does not think that Dr Khan and Fridrich knew each other.

According to KPRC, Fridrich has previously faced drug and weapon charges, but they were later dismissed or disposed of.

The Royal Bahrain Hospital announced&nbsp; on Thursday (Oct 19) that they have decided to terminate Dr Sunil Rao with “immediate effect” for posting “tweets on social media platforms that are offensive to our society”.&nbsp;

In a series of posts on X, Rao seemingly supported Israel amid its ongoing war with the Palestinian militant group Hamas. However, his posts went viral on the microblogging platform after another user posted screenshots and tagged Bahraini officials along with his profile on the hospital’s website.&nbsp;

<h2>Royal Bahrain Hospital’s response</h2>

The hospital belongs to the Indian-based KIMS Global and is headquartered in the city of Trivandrum, Kerala, with dozens of&nbsp;hospitals and medical centres across India and several Gulf countries. It soon took action against Rao and decided to fire him.&nbsp;

“It has come to our attention that Dr Sunil Rao who is working as a Specialist in Internal Medicine has posted tweets on social media that are offensive to our society,” said the Royal Bahrain Hospital, in a statement on X.&nbsp;

It added, “We would like to confirm that his tweets and ideology are personal and do not reflect the opinion and values of the hospital. This is a violation of our code of conduct and we have taken the necessary legal actions and his service has been terminated with immediate effect.”

<h2>Rao’s apology</h2>

Prior to the hospital’s response, Rao took to X and said, “I profoundly regret my words &amp; actions.” He added, “I would like to apologize for the statement I posted on this platform. It was insensitive in the context of the current event. As a doctor all lives matter.”&nbsp;

According to screenshots of his profile on the hospital’s website shared with the series of posts, Rao specialises in internal medicine with clinical expertise in Diabetes Mellitus type 1 and type 2, Thyroid disorders, hypertension, and so on.&nbsp;

As per his X profile, he is a graduate of Andhra Medical College in the Indian city of Visakhapatnam and did his MD from Kasturba Medical College in Mangaluru, Karnataka.&nbsp;

Notably, Rao’s profile from the Royal Bahrain Hospital’s website has since been deleted.&nbsp;
