In keeping with the annual, 'barbaric' tradition of killing dolphins, nearly 1500 of these mammals were killed in Faroe Island in Denmark. The images and videos from the event held over the weekend depicted water and shoreline becoming red with blood of dead dolphins. The hunt has sparked outrage and drawn sharp reaction from animal rights activists

The hunt is called Grindadrap.dolphins are herded by motorboats towards the shore. They are then killed by the whalers on the shores using harpoons and even power drills. Grindadrap is considered to be an example of traditional 'aboriginal whaling'

As per local media reports, 1428 dolphins were killed during the hunt over the weekend. Tweets showing horrific photos and videos of the hunt did rounds.

The doses are on top of New Zealand’s regular shipments from Pfizer and come a few days after officials announced a similar deal with Spain for more than 250,000 extra doses.&nbsp;

New Zealand reported 20 locally acquired COVID-19 cases in Auckland on Sunday.&nbsp;

The latest outbreak totals 599 infections since the first case was detected in late August.

Government claims "there are still too many people, especially with non-Western backgrounds, who do not have a job to get up to" in the morning.

Because 'there are too many, especially from non-Western backgrounds, who do not have a job,' Denmark has proposed making migrants work 37 hours a week to obtain welfare benefits.

The minority Social Democratic government's proposal would force migrants on benefits for at least three years to find work. This is a typically left-wing administration that has adopted right-wing anti-immigration measures.

It said that the initiative was important since many women of foreign heritage, particularly those from the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Turkey, do not work.&nbsp;

The initiative would begin with those who already knew some Danish, and local government would provide vocational training.

The proposal has yet to be put to a vote in the 179-seat parliament.

Despite the fact that the Social Democrats do not have a majority, they are likely to receive backing from center-right legislators in order to approve the bill.&nbsp;

The proposal, according to Mirka Mozer, the president of a Copenhagen-based organisation that assists immigrant women in finding work, does not appear to be ambitious enough.

'We have a lot of women who are eager to take work, including 37-hour jobs,' Mozar said, adding that additional 37-hour positions are needed.

Her organisation, the Immigrant Women's Centre, registered around 13,000 persons from 57 different countries in 2018.&nbsp;

Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen has recorded a touching video to reassure a nine-year-old girl who is due to undergo the same operation he had after collapsing while playing at Euro 2020.

The Inter Milan player suffered a cardiac arrest during his country’s opening game of the tournament, against Finland, and received life-saving treatment on the pitch.

He later had an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) device implanted, a type of pacemaker which can prevent fatal cardiac arrests by discharging a jolt to restore a regular heart rhythm.

The 29-year-old received a letter from Evie before she was due to have an ICD fitted at Great Ormond Street hospital in London, and his response was shared by her mother Nicci Martin on Facebook after a campaign through the platform to reach Eriksen for support after hearing about his operation.

“Thanks for the lovely letter, I just read it through tonight,” Eriksen said in the video message.

“I hope you are feeling comfortable and confident going into the operation. It is never fun to be in a hospital, but I am sure the doctors know what they are doing, and they will help you and tell you what they know and think.

“I am sure you will get back to normal life very quickly afterward, I know I did. I am sure it will be the same with you."

Martin said on Facebook her daughter, who "has a huge phobia of needles, cannulas, and blood", was a fan of Eriksen's former club Tottenham Hotspur and was a keen soccer player herself. She said no date had yet been set for the operation after a postponement.

Eriksen returned to the Inter training ground for the first time since his collapse last week, when a club statement said he was "in excellent physical and mental shape".

His playing career remains unclear, though, as he will not be allowed to play in Italy unless the ICD device is removed.

At a height of 21.16 metres, 3.5 meters higher than the previous record holder, the world's new tallest sandcastle was unveiled in Denmark last week. The sandcastle built in Blokhus in northwest Denmark broke the Guinness World record on Friday (July 2), previously held by a sandcastle made in Germany in 2019 which was 17.66 metres.

The structure is built in the shape of a triangle to avoid collapsing like many others have. A wooden structure was built around it to allow the artist to carve the incredible figures in the sand.&nbsp;

This&nbsp;highly decorated monument in the small seaside village of Blokhus, which is reminiscent of a pyramid, is made up of 4,860 tonnes of sand.&nbsp;

England and their long-suffering fans finally have the chance to add another trophy to the 1966 World Cup after they overcame Denmark 2-1 in extra time on Wednesday to reach the European Championship final for the first time.

Harry Kane's goal, following up after his penalty had been saved, finally saw off battling Denmark to set up a Sunday showdown against Italy, also looking to shake off the '60s as they seek to win the title they last lifted in 1968.

On a night to remember in front of almost 60,000 roaring fans, England fell behind to Mikkel Damsgaard's superb free kick, equalised with an own goal, dominated the game and then won it via their captain, albeit somewhat unconvincingly, in the 104th minute.

"Unbelievable - what a game though," said Kane. "We dug deep and we got there when it mattered. We reacted really well - we're in a final at home, what a feeling."

It was of course a particularly special night for coach Gareth Southgate, whose penalty shoot-out miss sent England out of the semi-finals of Euro 96. "We said to the players at some point we're going to have to show resilience and come back from setbacks, and we did that tonight," he said.

"The most pleasing thing is that we've given our fans and our nation a fantastic night and the journey carries on for another four days. We've said we want to create memories I've said to the young ones 'it isn't always like this'."

It was a tough way for Denmark to end their emotional ride from the fear and distress of Christian Eriksen’s opening game collapse to their first semi-final since their shock Euro 92 win, but their exhausted players left Wembley with socks rolled down but heads held high.

"I am proud of this group and everyone who has been on this journey. It has been fantastic to be involved. I am hungry and empty, but I am also proud," said Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

CROWD STUNNED

Having swept past Ukraine 4-0 in the quarter-finals, England knew they faced a considerable step up on Wednesday and the quality in the Danish ranks was amply illustrated after 30 minutes when Damsgaard fired a powerful, dipping 25-yard free-kick over the wall and beyond the diving Jordan Pickford.

England had reached the semis without conceding a goal and the crowd were stunned. The question of how England would respond to their first real setback would now be addressed.

The answer was calmly and patiently, as they passed their way back into the ascendancy. Raheem Sterling was denied at point-blank range by Kasper Schmeichel before the 39th-minute equaliser when Bukayo Saka hit the byline and fizzed over a low cross that Simon Kjaer bundled over his own line in his attempt to stop the ball from reaching Sterling.

Schmeichel was on hand again with an excellent diving save to palm away a Harry Maguire header and England began to turn the screw in the second half, but, despite their relentless passing and probing around the box, they struggled to carve out a clear opening and the match rolled into extra time.

The extra 30 minutes became a virtual attack v defence exercise, as Schmeichel saved again from Kane and Jack Grealish and the fear of penalties began to rise among the home fans.

The ever-dangerous Sterling continued to drive into the box though and was eventually brought down by Joakim Maehle for the VAR-reviewed penalty that Kane struck poorly and Schmeichel blocked, only for the captain to tuck home the rebound.

England then negotiated the last 15 minutes to spark the loudest, and surely most confident rendition of "Football's Coming Home", ever to ring around Wembley.

"When you’ve waited as long as we have to get through a semi-final, the players - considering the limited international experience some of them have - have done an incredible job," Southgate said.

"We suffered in Moscow (in the 2018 World Cup semi-final defeat by Croatia) on a night like this and we've managed to put that right. It's an incredible occasion to be a part of. The fans were incredible all night. There was mayhem on the pitch and I was part of it. We’ve got to enjoy the fact we're in the final but there's one more massive hurdle to conquer."

&nbsp;With their Euro 2020 campaign looking over by halftime in the opening game after Christian Eriksen's collapse, Denmark somehow came blazing back to reach the semi-finals, only to finally run out of steam as they lost to England after extra time.

The closest most of the Danish players had been to such tragedy and drama was most likely the statue of Hamlet at the entrance of their hotel base in Helsingor, but Eriksen's cardiac arrest against Finland thrust them into the global spotlight.

The shocking scenes that unfolded on live television stunned the&nbsp;footballing world as medics battled to save the life of their talismanic midfielder while his distressed teammates looked on.

Captain Simon Kjaer showed great strength to help save Eriksen's life as keeper Kasper Schmeichel tried to pull his side together, while others wept before the dubious decision to restart the game against Finland was taken.

It resulted in a 1-0 loss that not even the Finns seemed to care much about, despite it being their first game at the finals of a major tournament.&nbsp;

In the aftermath of that trauma, Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand spoke of how the Danes needed to have the courage to allow themselves to experience their feelings, and he and his players displayed a range of raw emotions in the following days.

Some, like Schmeichel, seemed to recover quicker than others but Kjaer, the rock on which the current Denmark side is built, was not sure he wanted to play the next game against Belgium, a 2-1 loss that came as no surprise.

AMBITIOUS&nbsp;FOOTBALL

Denmark's campaign was in turmoil, but having shown glimpses of Hjulmand's expansive, ambitious&nbsp;football, the signs of a potential comeback were there once they managed to gradually put the shock of that opening game behind them.

Mikkel Damsgaard led the way, showing no fear whatsoever as he shouldered Eriksen's playmaking responsibilities and scored a brilliant opening goal against Russia in their final group game to ignite a cathartic night in Copenhagen.

Battered beyond belief, but knowing that Eriksen was alive, the Danes simply refused to throw in the towel as 25,000 red-and-white clad fans roared them on to a spectacular 4-1 win that saw them qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.

They walloped Wales 4-0 in the last 16 as the headlines finally turned to their&nbsp;football, rather than Eriksen's fate.

A nervy 2-1 win over the Czech Republic in the quarters set up the semi-final clash with England. They even took the lead through another brilliant Damsgaard goal, but the cracks were beginning to show.

A Kjaer's own goal leveled the game and by the hour mark they began to wilt, the adrenalin fading and the emotional toll of the last few weeks making its presence felt as an extra-time penalty by Harry Kane ended their tournament.

Showing bravery and skill, there was no shame in that defeat as the Danes weathered the storm of Eriksen's collapse, winning new fans at home and abroad and auguring a bright and promising future, despite the drama they had to endure at Euro 2020.

Euro 2020: Heroic Danes show heart despite fall at final Euro hurdle

Denmark's Andreas Christensen believes his side's Premier League players have what it takes to stop England striker Harry Kane and silence Wembley Stadium when they meet in their Euro 2020 semi-final on Wednesday.&nbsp;

The 25-year-old defender's club side Chelsea have a good record against England No. 9 and Denmark may also gain from the insight of midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg who is a teammate of Kane's at Tottenham.

"We know his qualities, and everyone has an idea of what we can do to stop him," Christensen told a news conference.

"Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg also knows him, and it may be that he can share some things. All&nbsp;football&nbsp;players have their habits, and we must take advantage of them."

Kane, who scored against Germany in the last 16 and added a brace in England's 4-0 quarter-final win over Ukraine, presents a tough physical challenge for the Danes.

"He is good with his feet and he is one of the best finishers in&nbsp;football," Christensen said.

"I react a lot on instinct. He is very big, so it is hard to get into his body, but he also has great qualities with his feet, so you should not get too close either."

HJULMAND'S PLAN

Despite playing for more modest clubs scattered throughout Europe, the Danes are not intimidated by England's star-studded lineup of household names.&nbsp;

"I feel like we have the qualities to play against everyone. As a team, I would not say they are that much better," Christensen said.&nbsp;

After masterminding his side's remarkable comeback from losing Christian Eriksen to a cardiac arrest in the opening game, coach Kasper Hjulmand is working on a plan to stop England's forward line.&nbsp;

"We're aware of Harry Kane, but you cannot place an order to wrap a player up. We know all about how they attack, so we're creating some structures to stop the English attacks," he told reporters.&nbsp;

The game will take place in front of 60,000 fans at Wembley, but due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, only Danes residents in the United Kingdom will be able to attend.

"We're going to be outnumbered, but we are happy and we try to be as calm as we can. We have shown that we have the quality to play against the best. It's going to be about who wants it the most," Christensen said.&nbsp;

Euro 2020: 'We can stop Harry Kane,' says Denmark's defender Andreas Christensen

European football governing body UEFA has invited Denmark international Christian Eriksen and the paramedics who helped save his life during an on-field cardiac arrest to attend the Euro 2020 final at Wembley on Sunday.

The brilliant Danish midfielder was resuscitated in front of shocked fans and a massive global TV audience during his nation's first match of the tournament.

UEFA said Eriksen, his wife and six medics were invited to the final, but there was no confirmation he would attend.

One of the paramedics, Peder Ersgaard, said he was honoured to receive a VIP invite from UEFA boss Aleksander Ceferin.

"I'm excited, like a child on Christmas Eve," he told the Fagbladet FOA magazine.

"I'm very proud of my efforts, but also of the whole team. It wasn't a one-man effort."

Eriksen collapsed on the Parken Stadium field in the first half against Finland, his eyes staring blank into a TV camera. CPR was administered and his heart was restarted with a defibrillator as players shielded the medics.

He is now recovering at home.

Eriksen's agent could not immediately be reached by phone.

Initially traumatised but then inspired by the emotion over Eriksen's plight, Denmark have stormed into the semi-finals and play England on Wednesday for a place in the final.

"I hope to see Denmark against Italy. That would be really, really big. Just imagine if they become European champions," Ersgaard added.

Football-UEFA invites Eriksen and medics who saved him to Euros final

England have the chance to reach a first major final since their 1966 World Cup triumph when they take on Denmark at Wembley in Wednesday's Euro 2020 semi-final, but they will need to banish a history of stumbling at this stage.

Gareth Southgate's side were impressive in their 4-0 dismantling of Ukraine in Rome on Saturday, heralding a wave of euphoria in the country as media showered the team in praise.

England fans need no reminder, however, that their team have lost four major semi-finals since Alf Ramsey's team's title.

Southgate has been keen to keep the burden of history out of his team's thinking. If he needs a way to bring his players back down to earth before the semi-final, he does not have to look back far for a warning against complacency.

An England side containing ten of the current squad faced Denmark at Wembley in October in a Nations League match and lost 1-0 to a Christian Eriksen penalty.

Eriksen, who is recovering from the shocking cardiac episode he suffered as he collapsed in Denmark's opening Euro game, will not feature at Wembley of course.

But Kasper Hjulmand's side, who beat the Czech Republic 2-1 in their quarter-final, will be largely the same as the one which left London with three points eight months ago.

The lessons from that game are limited by the fact that England played almost an hour with ten men after Harry Maguire was sent off in the 31st minute - but that in itself is a reminder of the way a moment of indiscipline can swing a game.

Maguire looks rock solid at the moment as part of an England defence which has yet to concede a goal in the tournament.

And with Harry Kane back to scoring form with three goals in the two knockout stage games, England look to be peaking at the right moment.

ERIKSEN FACTOR

There was, however, a similar feeling among England fans after they beat Sweden in the last eight of the World Cup three years ago in Russia only to fall to Croatia in the semi.

"Now we've replicated what we did there, but that won't be enough to fulfil the group," said Southgate, who knows that the national mood would change sharply if his team stumble at the same stage this time.

Denmark's performances in this tournament, where they have responded to the Eriksen trauma in such inspiring fashion, should also keep England focused.

The Danes got out of Group B with a rousing 4-1 win over Russia in Copenhagen before thrashing Wales 4-0 in Amsterdam.

In the quarter-final, they beat a well-organised Czech side 2-1 in the heat&nbsp;of Baku.

Much of the focus on Denmark has been on the way the team has come together and fought so well after the shocking scenes against Finland, with Southgate noting they are "riding a wave of emotion", but they have been much more than battlers.

Hjulmand's team have a clear structure and method to their play which has earned them their place in the last four.

In attack, Martin Braithwaite creates the spaces which Mikkel Damsgaard and Kasper Dolberg have exploited well and there is a threat from attacking wing-backs Jens Stryger Larsen and the excellent Joakim Maehle.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Thomas Delaney are a firm presence in the centre of midfield while the backline in front of goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has been solid.

Unbeaten England though starts as clear favourites with a stronger squad and home advantage and the fear that has gripped them in previous campaigns refreshingly absent so far.

Spain or Italy, who play in Tuesday's other semi, await the winner in Sunday's final at Wembley.

Euro 2020: England aim for breakthrough, but Denmark stands determined

The UEFA Euro 2020 re-visitations of the overlay with a bunch of critical quarterfinals coordinates with this end of the week as Denmark locks horns with the Czech Republic at the Baku Olympic Stadium on Saturday. The two teams have been completely great this mid-year and have a highlight demonstrate this end of the week.&nbsp;

The Czech Republic have reliably fought at a surprisingly high level over the previous month and oversaw superb outcomes against Croatia and Scotland. The Czechs shocked the Netherlands in the Round of 16 and will be filled to the edge with certainty in front of this game.&nbsp;

Denmark, then again, persevered through a genuinely troublesome excursion in their league stage and required a splendid 4-1 triumph against Russia to arrive at the thump-outs. The Danes were electrifying against Wales and might actually be surprisingly strong contenders at Euro 2020.&nbsp;

<h2>Head-to-Head</h2>

There have been 11 past clashes between the sides previously, with the Czech Republic winning thrice, one more than Denmark. Crown jewels have been shared on six events between the different sides. Strangely, five of their last six clashes have finished in impasses, with Denmark getting a pounding 3-0 away triumph in a FIFA World Cup qualifier in March 2013.&nbsp;

<h2>Czech Republic versus Denmark&nbsp;</h2>

Yussuf Poulsen and Daniel Wass missed the Wales clash through injury, while Simon Kjaer must be subbed in the subsequent half, yet the triplet ought to be accessible for the quarter-last challenge.&nbsp;

Martin Braithwaite, Kasper Dolberg, and Mikkel Damsgaard dazzled as the front three last break and will all be certain of holding their places.&nbsp;

Probable Starting XI (3-4-3): Schmeichel; Christensen, Kjaer, Vestergaard; Wass, Hojbjerg, Delaney, Maehle; Braithwaite, Dolberg, Damsgaard.&nbsp;

Czech Republic have Jan Boril accessible after suspension and he is probably going to return at left-back.&nbsp;

Jaroslav Silhavy has choices to make somewhere else; Vladimir Darida and Jakub Jankto were named on the seat against the Netherlands however could supplant Antonin Barak and Petr Sevcik if the lead trainer picks against keeping a triumphant formula.&nbsp;

Protectively, Denmark have&nbsp;no motivation to dabble with the back three of Andreas Christensen, Jannik Vestergaard, and Simon Kjaer. The TRIO offers an optimal equilibrium of detail, and leadership, giving goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel top-class inclusion in the middle of the sticks.&nbsp;

Probable Starting XI&nbsp;(4-2-3-1): Vaclik; Coufal, Celustka, Kalas, Boril; Holes, Soucek; Masopust, Barak, Sevcik; Schick&nbsp;

<h2>Prediction</h2>

Denmark are surely the top picks heading into this encounter because of their amazing, free-scoring form. The resurgence of players like Dolberg, Braithwaite, and the predictable exhibitions from Maehle and Hojbjerg give them the edge in the defense, midfield, and assault.&nbsp;

The Czech Republic are&nbsp;a solid side that is fit for progressing to the following round. Although, they may battle to discover any solution to Denmark's attack, particularly if the resistance can stay away from any doltish errors.&nbsp;

Euro 2020: Denmark to battle it out with Czech Republic in quarter-finals

Dominant Denmark thrashed Wales 4-0 to sweep into the European Championship quarter-finals on Saturday and continue a wave of positive emotion generated by sympathy for Christian Eriksen.

The midfielder, who is recovering from a cardiac arrest during Denmark's opening game, was remembered at the start of the last 16 games in Amsterdam, again inspiring teammates.

Forward Kasper Dolberg struck in each half while Joakim Maehle and Martin Braithwaite got in on the act late on, enabling Danes to dream of repeating their 1992 Euros win while banishing Welsh hopes of matching their 2016 semi-final run.

Dolberg, making his first start of the tournament, gave his side the lead with a fine individual goal in the 27th minute, curling into the top corner from outside the area.

He doubled Denmark's advantage in Amsterdam early in the second half, ruthlessly pouncing on a loose ball after Wales failed to clear a cross following a galloping run down the right-wing from Dolberg's strike partner Braithwaite.

"This is total madness. It's surreal. It was here it all started for me, and to play here again in this setting was insane," said Dolberg, who began his career at Ajax in the same stadium.

Braithwaite missed a glaring opportunity to add to Denmark's lead but Maehle sealed the win in the 88th minute.

Wales' frustrations spilled over when Harry Wilson was sent off for a wild tackle on Maehle in added time.

Braithwaite finally got the goal he had craved by netting at the death, though he had to wait for a lengthy VAR review.

Denmark heads to Baku next Saturday to face either the Netherlands or the Czech Republic in the last eight.

"It's something bigger going on for Denmark than just what's happening on the pitch. It's obvious they're doing this for Christian Eriksen," said former Wales player Ashley Williams.

DELIGHTED DANES

Denmark were playing away from Copenhagen for the first time but still counted on loud support as thousands of their fans descended on the Johan Cruyff Arena and outnumbered the Welsh.

Kasper Hjulmand's side was without injured striker Yussuf Poulsen, who had scored in the 2-1 defeat to Belgium and 4-1 thumping of Russia which propelled them into the last 16.

Yet in a sign of the team's unity, the player joined his team on the pitch to sing the national anthem before kickoff, standing side-by-side with the substitutes and coaching staff.

Wales had a flurry of early attacks and talisman Gareth Bale nearly gave them an early lead when he went for goal from range.

"It's not how we wanted the game to go, from our point of view we started very well and then the game changed," Bale said.

"We tried to play in the second half but made a mistake to concede which killed the momentum on our side."

More than compensating for Poulsen's absence, Dolberg had more luck than Bale with a distance strike that flew past helpless Wales keeper Danny Ward for the Danes' opener.

Denmark hardly looked back from then on, dominating possession and chances as Wales failed to recreate the fighting spirit of their famous run in France five years ago.

"We needed to play at the best level we could today, we weren't able to do it. We were up against an accomplished side. Tactically Denmark understood what they needed to do," said former Wales coach Mark Hughes.

"We tried to play in the second half but made a mistake to concede which killed the momentum on our side." More than compensating for Poulsen's absence, Dolberg had more luck than Bale with a distance strike that flew past helpless Wales keeper Danny Ward for the Danes' opener.

Football: Denmark demolish Wales 4-0 to reach Euro quarter-finals

Denmark will be playing their first game away from Copenhagen's Parken Stadium when they take on Wales in their Euro 2020 last 16 tie on Saturday (June 26) but there will still be a familiar feel in Amsterdam - a home away from home for Danish&nbsp;footballers.

The Danish national team has long been influenced by the Dutch masters at Ajax Amsterdam, and plenty of Danish players like Michael Laudrup, Morten Olsen, as a manager, and current striker Kasper Dolberg have thrived in the capital.

For Denmark to be facing Wales in a knockout game two weeks after playmaker Christian Eriksen, who made his breakthrough at Ajax, suffered a cardiac arrest in their opener against Finland, is a huge achievement. Their 4-1 win over Russia, with the team, roared on by a fanatical crowd, saw them through.

There will be no such backing in Amsterdam, however, as fewer than 2,000 tickets have been made available to Danish fans who want to attend the game.

"We have a strength now that we will try to move on with," coach Kasper Hjulmand told reporters in a news conference on Friday (June 25).

"We are looking very much forward to this game after three games at the Parken stadium that had enough feelings for a whole life. Now we are moving forward and we will crank it up tomorrow," he added.

Wales will once again rely on Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale for the creative spark they will need to break down the Danes, as well as the formidable long throw-ins of Conor Roberts.

Ethan Ampadu is suspended after his sending-off in the 1-0 defeat against Group A winners Italy and coach Rob Page is likely to revert to a flat back four after experimenting with a 3-4-3 lineup against the flying Italians.

Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand is again likely to deploy 20-year-old winger Mikkel Damsgaard, who opened the scoring against Russia, in the playmaking role in place of Eriksen, but it will take another sterling collective effort if they are to advance.

Football: Denmark relishing Wales Euro clash in familiar Amsterdam

Copenhagen&nbsp;has topped media outlet Monocle's list of the world's best cities for quality of life, the fourth time Denmark's capital has won the honour since the survey began in 2007.

Zurich, Helsinki, Stockholm and Tokyo rounded out the top five as Monocle resumed its rankings after a one-year hiatus as the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/topics/coronavirus">COVID-19 pandemic</a> struck.

"Copenhagen&nbsp;is one of those cities where there is a real ambition to deliver a better quality of life for everyone," said Monocle's editor in chief, Andrew Tuck.

"The ambitions around creating a cleaner environment are best in class and the city is reaping the rewards of years of urban investment."

This year's report sought to gauge which cities have used the past months "to build back better; defend their economies, cultural scenes and high streets; and to press ahead with projects to ensure that transport works and parks are tended but also that a sense of civic pride is promoted," it said.

It also put greater emphasis on civic leadership, good housing policies and programmes to support entrepreneurs.

"It was not exactly easy to do this year but we tried our best," Editorial Director Tyler Brûlé said, noting Monocle had applied classic metrics like safety, infrastructure, and ease of opening business.

Copenhagen tops list of best cities for quality of life

Denmark are without a point in a Euro 2020 campaign dominated by Christian Eriksen's cardiac arrest, but they hope fans will rouse them for Monday's last-chance game against Russia.

"It's like our Euros are starting right now," coach Kasper Hjulmand said on Sunday ahead of the game at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen where fans have stayed passionately behind the team during narrow defeats to Finland and Belgium.

"We have a knock-out game ahead of us and only if we win we will have the chance to move further in the tournament," the 49-year-old manager told a news conference.

"We respect Russia, it's going to be a tough game and we need the support we had last time (against Belgium)."

Danish fans were left stunned and emotional after midfielder Eriksen's collapse in the opener, with the players looking shell-shocked when play resumed and Finland scored to win 1-0.

An outpouring of support from the stadium propelled the Danes to an early lead and stirring performance against top-ranked Belgium in the next game, but despite scoring an early goal they also lost that game 2-1.

"For us, to sit here with zero points still is also painful, so it is a massive opportunity for us," said goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

With a normal capacity of just over 38,000, the stadium held 16,000 for the opener and 25,000 against Belgium, and on Monday another 25,000 will be present for Denmark's last roll of the dice.

Belgium top Group B on six points with the Danes bottom on zero and need to beat Russia to have any chance of advancing to the knockout stage. Finland, who like Russia have three points, take on Belgium in St. Petersburg at the same time to decide the outcome of the group.

Hailed as a hero for his quick action and leadership after Eriksen collapsed, Denmark captain Simon Kjaer said the team deserved success.

"We go into the game with the mentality that we have to get there (to the knockout stage), and after everything we've been through I think we deserve it," the central defender said.

"You can be sure that everything will be left out on the pitch tomorrow - with the support and the quality that this team has, I'm confident about the match."

Russia, who have not reached the knockout stage of a European championship since 2008, need either a win against Denmark to get into the last 16 or a draw if Finland fail to beat Denmark in the other Group B match on Monday."We think that this will be a difficult match," Cherchesov told a news conference, highlighting Denmark's explosive play and Yussuf Poulsen's early goal in the Danes' 2-1 loss to Belgium, the world's highest-ranked side.

Football: Denmark dream of win against Russia to save their Euros

Denmark host Russia at Euro 2020 on Monday seeking to snatch a place in the last 16 as coronavirus further disrupted the tournament, costing Scotland the services of breakout star Billy Gilmour.

Elsewhere, Austria and Ukraine go head-to-head in Bucharest for a place in the knockout phase, with the Netherlands already assured of qualification from Group C.

Denmark's opening 1-0 loss to Finland in Group B was overshadowed by Christian Eriksen's mid-match collapse due to a cardiac arrest and they were defeated by Belgium in an emotional game during which fans and players showed their support for the midfielder.

But the 1992 European champions could snatch a top-two finish if they beat Russia and already-qualified Belgium win against Finland, with a crowd of up to 25,000 cheering them on in Copenhagen.

"We're prepared to run out at the Parken and have a magical night... it's like our Euro is starting right now," said Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand.

"We're not done. We had a difficult start and we're going to start over now. We're ready to get through the group and play more games."

A win by two goals or more would be enough if Finland lose, as would any one-goal success other than 1-0.

"It would mean a lot... after everything that we've been through I think we deserve it," said captain Simon Kjaer.

Inter Milan player Eriksen has left hospital after a successful operation to have a heart defibrillator fitted.

But Russia will be out to spoil the home team's day, knowing just a point would be enough to finish second if Belgium win.

Roberto Martinez's Belgians, the world's top-ranked team, are not yet guaranteed a top-two finish, but a draw would see them through as group winners.

Ukraine, managed by Andriy Shevchenko, are just a point away from making the knockout stage for the first time after group exits in 2012 and 2016.

But Austria -- who had never won a European Championship match until they beat North Macedonia in their opener -- will be desperate to make their mark.

Even a point would likely be enough to secure a last-16 spot as one of the four best third-placed teams.

Coach Franco Foda has confirmed that Marko Arnautovic will make his first start of Euro 2020 after serving a one-match ban for insulting Macedonian players while celebrating scoring as a substitute.

The victors will face Group A winners Italy at Wembley in the next round.

The other game in Group C is a dead rubber between the Netherlands, who are assured of top spot, and already-eliminated North Macedonia.

<h2>- Scotland's Gilmour tests positive -</h2>

The Scottish Football Association announced on Monday that Chelsea midfielder Gilmour had tested positive for Covid-19, dealing a huge blow to Scotland's hopes of making it beyond the group stages of a major tournament for the first time.

Gilmour picked up the man-of-the-match award in Friday's 0-0 draw against England at Wembley in his first international start.

But the 20-year-old will miss Tuesday's clash against Croatia at Hampden with Scotland needing to win to have any chance of progressing to the last 16.

"The Scottish FA can confirm that a member of the Scotland national team playing squad, Billy Gilmour, has tested positive for Covid-19," the Scottish FA said in a statement.

Spain captain Sergio Busquets was forced to self-isolate after a positive test earlier this month while Slovakia and Sweden have also been hit by positive tests.

World champions France have lost Ousmane Dembele for the rest of Euro 2020 after X-rays showed the Barcelona winger's knee injury would not heal in time.

Dembele, 24, was hurt in the closing minutes of the 1-1 draw against Hungary in Budapest on Saturday

On Sunday, Wales celebrated reaching the last 16 despite losing 1-0 to Italy in Rome. Switzerland were left to wait before finding out if they will join them following their 3-1 win against Turkey.

Wales, semi-finalists at Euro 2016, will play a last-16 tie in Amsterdam next Saturday against the runners-up from Group B.

Football: Denmark bid to snatch last-16 berth at Euro 2020 as Scotland lose Gilmour to Covid

Denmark is determined to squeeze into the knockout stage of Euro 2020 with a win against Russia in their final Group B match on Monday, after recovering with poise from the shock of Christian Eriksen's cardiac arrest.

Despite losing 2-1 to a Belgian side aided by the return of Kevin de Bruyne, a flood of supportive messages for Eriksen and the catharsis of Yussuf Poulsen's early goal against the world's top side seemed to put the trauma of Denmark's opening match behind them.

Manager Kasper Hjulmand pledged that Denmark, who will benefit from a home advantage against Russia in Copenhagen, would beat Stanislav Cherchesov's side for Eriksen after he underwent an operation to implant a heart-starter device.

The Danish midfielder was discharged from hospital on Friday, six days after collapsing during his side's match against Finland.

Despite so far playing on home turf in St Petersburg, Russia has failed to rekindle the magic of their quarter-final run at the 2018 World Cup in matches that have highlighted a porous defense and a lukewarm attack.

Russia has not reached the knockout stage of a European championship since 2008. Their 1-0 victory against surprise qualifiers Finland on Wednesday was their first win since their opening match at the 2012 tournament.

Denmark, last in Group B with two losses, hopes to capitalize early on defensive lapses by Russia, with Mikkel Damsgaard filling in for Eriksen and forward Martin Braithwaite showing touches of quality against Belgium.

"We're going to get through the group stage," Braithwaite said after the loss to Belgium. "With this team, there are no limits."

To grab the second qualifying spot, Denmark is also relying on Belgium, who have already advanced, to beat Finland on Monday.

DEFENSIVE DRAWBACKS

A Russian win against Denmark, meanwhile, would guarantee them a spot in the knockout stage.

Cherchesov opted to play untested 22-year-old goalkeeper Matvei Safonov against Finland after Anton Shunin's shaky play against Belgium. He also benched defender Andrei Semyonov following an error-strewn performance in their opener.

Russia's lack of depth and the talent gap with Europe's top sides leave Cherchesov with few attacking options beyond captain Artyom Dzyuba.

Dzyuba, a towering striker who is one goal away from tying Alexander Kerzhakov's national team record of 30, has been scoreless in the tournament so far.

Against Denmark, Cherchesov could start Alexei Miranchuk, one of the few Russians who play in a top European league. The Atalanta midfielder, who came on in the 63rd minute against Belgium, scored Russia's goal against Finland.

Eriksen collapsed suddenly in the 42nd minute of the match while running near the left touchline after a Denmark throw-in.

As a hush fell over the 16,000-strong crowd, his teammates gathered around him and one appeared to stick his fingers in Eriksen's mouth to clear his airway or check he hadn't swallowed his tongue.

As medics arrived on the scene and pumped Eriksen's chest, his teammates formed a ring around him. Danish broadcaster DR cut the live TV feed, instead of showing aerial footage of the stadium.

The 29-year-old was taken to the nearby Rigshospitalet, where he regained consciousness.

"We have been in contact with him and the players have spoken to Christian," said Peter Moller of the Danish Football Association.

Applause broke out in the Parken stadium among both Danish and Finnish fans when it was announced that Eriksen had regained consciousness.

"He is doing well and they are playing the match for Christian," Moller said.

The game was initially suspended but resumed an hour and 45 minutes later, Finland claiming a 1-0 victory when striker Joel Pohjanpalo headed in on the hour with his side's only attempt of the game.

A visibly drained Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand said after the match that the players were given the option to finish the game on Saturday evening or on Sunday.

"It was more manageable to go in again and honestly just get it over with," Hjulmand said.

Several players, including captain Simon Kjaer, were too overwhelmed by emotions to finish the game, he said.

"I completely understand that you can't play a soccer match at this level, after watching one of your best friends fight for his life," Hjulmand said.

Later in the day, Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, a teammate of Eriksen at soccer club Inter Milan in Italy, ran to a TV camera and shouted "Chris, Chris, I love you" after scoring in his side's opening match against Russian.

People gathered outside bars in central Copenhagen, many in tears, while Eriksen's condition remained unclear.

The crowd at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen sang the Danish national anthem and chanted "Christian Eriksen" while they waited for news until word finally came through that the player had regained consciousness.

Football: Denmark's Eriksen rushed to hospital after collapsing in Euro 2020 match

Finland striker Teemu Pukki said their Euro 2020 opener against Denmark on Saturday was one of the most difficult games of his career after Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed and required emergency medical treatment on the pitch.

Inter Milan playmaker Eriksen collapsed suddenly in the 42nd minute of the match while running near the left touchline after a Denmark throw-in and was given life-saving cardiac massage treatment and taken to hospital.

The Group B game was eventually restarted an hour and 45 minutes later after news came through that Eriksen had regained consciousness and Finland went on to win 1-0 thanks to a Joel Pohjanpalo goal.

"I must say it's been definitely one of the most difficult games of my career. Hopefully, everything is getting a better direction now," Pukki told reporters.

"We decided to do what the Danish team would decide and were ready to continue whatever decision was taken. It was definitely not easy to come back to the pitch. But once we heard everything seemed to be fine, we started concentrating again on the game.

"In the end, we're glad about the victory. The atmosphere after the game is definitely not as glorious as usual but we got important three points."

Finland skipper Tim Sparv described the contest as an emotional roller-coaster.

"Our thoughts are with Christian Eriksen and his loved ones during these difficult times," Sparv tweeted. "Football&nbsp;is so insignificant when something like this happens. Life is precious. Take care of each other."

Eriksen's former club Tottenham Hotspur, who he left in 2020 to join Inter, tweeted a message of support, saying that he would "always be one of our own".

Denmark's parliament has passed a law that will allow them to relocate asylum seekers outside Europe, despite criticism from rights groups and the United Nations.

France, Germany and other European countries demanded answers following reports the US spied on its allies using Danish underwater cables. The report was published by Denmark's National broadcaster DR News in collaboration with other European media outlets.

Denmark said Monday it would not include the Covid-19 vaccine from US drugmaker&nbsp;Johnson&nbsp;&amp;&nbsp;Johnson&nbsp;in its national vaccination campaign, citing worries over serious side effects involving blood clots.

"The Danish Health Authority has concluded that the benefits of using the Covid-19 vaccine from&nbsp;Johnson&nbsp;&amp;&nbsp;Johnson&nbsp;do not outweigh the risk of causing the possible adverse effect... in those who receive the vaccine," the authority said in a statement.

"Therefore, the Danish Health Authority will continue the Danish mass vaccination programme against Covid-19 without the Covid-19 vaccine from&nbsp;Johnson&nbsp;&amp;&nbsp;Johnson," it added. The WHO and European medicines watchdog have both authorised the vaccine.&nbsp;

Denmark&nbsp;aims to start local production of coronavirus vaccines in 2022, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said, after previously expressing concern over the European Union's handling of vaccine procurement.

A new plant to produce vaccines will be owned and operated by the private sector and a tendering process and will be announced in a few weeks, she told Danish media late on Monday.

"We would like to ensure greater security of vaccine supplies on Danish soil," Frederiksen said. "We see vaccines as part of&nbsp;Denmark's overall preparedness and thus as critical infrastructure."

Frederiksen has been critical of the EU's approach to ordering, approving and distributing vaccines within the 27 nation bloc. She agreed with Austria and Israel last month to set up a joint research and development fund and possibly production facilities for COVID-19 vaccines to ensure long-term supplies.

Denmark's future plant will manufacture mRNA vaccines, an advanced technology used in the COVID-19 shots produced by BioNTech/Pfizer and Moderna, Frederiksen said.

She did not quantify the amount of vaccines that will be produced or give any financial detail.

The foundation that controls Danish drug maker Novo Nordisk said last month it was in preliminary talks with the government about establishing local vaccine production.

Denmark drops Johnson & Johnson from Covid vaccination programme

The Dutch government has temporarily disabled its coronavirus warning app amid data privacy concerns for people who have the app installed on phones using the Android operating system.

Health Minister Hugo de Jonge announced late Wednesday that the CoronaMelder app will stop sending warnings for 48 hours while the government checks if users' data is secure.

The Dutch app uses “exposure notification” technology developed by Google and Apple that generates random codes that can be exchanged by phones whose users are close to one another for long enough to possibly transmit the virus.

The Dutch health ministry says that it is possible for other apps on Android phones to access data about whether its user's had been infected and its contacts with other phones.

Most EU nations have designed contact tracing apps around the same technology, the European Commission said. The Commission said that it has informed controllers of national apps in the 27-nation EU “so that Member States take the necessary steps if necessary.”

According to the Dutch health ministry, Google informed the government Wednesday it has fixed the issue. The government halted messages from the app for 48 hours to check if the leak has been fixed.

In a statement emailed to The Associated Press, Google said it has been “rolling out a fix for an issue where random Bluetooth identifiers used by the Exposure Notification framework on Android were temporarily accessible to a limited number of pre-installed applications.”

The tech giant said that the rollout began several weeks ago and it expects the fix "to be available to all Android users in the coming days.”

Google said that random Bluetooth identifiers “on their own have no practical value to bad actors, and it is extremely unlikely that developers of pre-installed apps were aware of the inadvertent availability of those identifiers.”

The company added that it has no indications that any data from coronavirus exposure apps was accessed inappropriately.

The Dutch government has temporarily disabled its coronavirus warning app amid data privacy concerns for people who have the app installed on phones using the Android operating system. Health Minister Hugo de Jonge announced late Wednesday that the CoronaMelder app will stop sending warnings for 48 hours while the government checks if users' data is secure. The Dutch app uses “exposure notification” technology developed by Google and Apple that generates random codes that can be exchanged by phones whose users are close to one another for long enough to possibly transmit the virus. The Dutch health ministry says that it is possible for other apps on Android phones to access data about whether its user's had been infected and its contacts with other phones. “The privacy of users is always a priority. While Google must solve the problem, I can limit the consequences. That’s why we’re taking this decision,” De Jonge said in a statement. Police in Denmark said they on Tuesday have arrested six men, who are suspected of joining and financing the Islamic State group in Syria.&nbsp;

Two of those arrested, ages 29 and 30, allegedly travelled to Syria in 2014 where they were recruited by IS. They are suspected of violating Danish terror laws and, if found guilty, they face up to six years in jail. The 29-year-old man tried to reenter Syria in 2015, police said in a statement.&nbsp;

Five of them are also suspected of sending money to financially support the group. One of them, the 29-year-old, allegedly transferred funds from 2013 to 2017.&nbsp;

Police said in a statement that they believed that the 29-year-old man used the four others as middlemen for the money transfers. If found guilty of financing a terror group, they face up to 10 years in prison.&nbsp;

None of the men were identified in line with Danish practice. &nbsp;

The arrests of the men, ranging in age from 27 to 35, were made in Copenhagen and Aarhus, Denmark's second-largest city. Police and the Danish Security Intelligence Agency took part in the arrests. &nbsp;

Vaccines are effective in reducing caseloads and preventing death, according to evidence. There is a clear divide between those who got the jabs first, and those who did not. As a result, the global struggle to tame the virus continues.&nbsp;

The masks have come off in Israel and the people are back on the streets. The beaches are packed and friends can embrace, without fear. Most adults in Israel have got at least one jab. Now, kids could be next as Israel is gearing up for the second round of vaccinations. The focus this time is on 12 to 15 year olds.&nbsp;

Israel might have reached herd immunity but the rest of the world is still struggling to find its way out of this pandemic. New infections worldwide touched a new high last week with more than 5.2 million people testing positive, an increase of 12 per cent from a week earlier.&nbsp;

While Brazil and India are driving the global caseloads, European countries like France and Germany are experiencing large outbreaks too. France now plans to lift restrictions in May while in Germany, the government has come up with a new law to impose tougher restrictions on states. A move that triggered protests in Berlin. &nbsp;

But some other European nations are in much better shape, such as Belgium, Switzerland and Denmark, who have announced easing of restrictions as their caseloads reduce.&nbsp;

The case of Denmark stands out unlike the major European powers as it avoided a third wave. Its infection and death rates are among the lowest in Europe.&nbsp;

Now, Denmark is in a position to fully implement a vaccine passport, known as the Coronapas. The digital app shows a certificate of vaccination or a citizen's latest negative coronavirus test. &nbsp;

The European Union wants to implement such digital certificates across all 27 member states by June as it tries to allow free movement of Europeans again. Denmark could be the first to get there as the country lifts the restrictions. Citizens would now need a Coronapas to enjoy their freedoms again.&nbsp;

Those, who don't get their jabs, might struggle to move around in the future as countries mull movement restrictions for the unvaccinated. The UAE is one of them. After vaccinating 65 per cent of its eligible population, the UAE is considering strict measures to restrict the unvaccinated. This could include entry bans in some places and curbs on access to public services.&nbsp;

Israel's mass inoculation drive has given the rest of the world a glimpse into the future. Other countries are now betting on the jabs to end restrictions. With more than 925 million doses administered across 155 countries by now, it looks like the vaccines will be the only key you would need to leave the safety of your home. &nbsp;
