Trump, in the videos from the rally, can then be seen reaching for his ear with his right hand, looking at it before dropping to his knees behind the podium. Within seconds, the Secret Service agents swarmed and covered him.&nbsp;

About a minute later, Trump re-emerged, covered by the agents, his red "Make America Great Again" hat knocked off and pumping his fist into the air, appearing to mouth&nbsp;the words "Fight! Fight! Fight!" before being ushered into a vehicle.

Putting out an open challenge to the Democrats against his presidential re-run, he added,&nbsp;"Any of these guys that don't think I should run — run against me. Announce for president, challenge me at the convention."

On the other hand, the likes of Hollywood director&nbsp;Rob Reiner known for movies like When Harry Met Sally&nbsp;said if Biden were to keep up similar performances until the November elections "he'll be able to shut up people like me who think he should step aside."

Addressing the press at the White House, Biden said that "for all practical purposes today's decision almost certainly means there are no limits to what a president can do. This is a fundamentally new principle, and it's a dangerous precedent."

"Any president—including Donald Trump—will now be free to ignore the law," said Biden, urging&nbsp;the people to decide if they once again want to "entrust" Trump with the Presidency.

"The American people must decide if they want to entrust… once again, the presidency to Donald Trump, now knowing he'll be more emboldened to do whatever he pleases, whenever he wants to do it," he said.

Donald Trump is charged with conspiracy attempt to defraud America and the obstruction of an official proceeding - elections. He allegedly did this by rallying his supporters on January 6, 2021, to prevent the joint session of Congress from being held to certify Biden's win in the election.

"The public has a right to know the answer about what happened on January 6, before they're asked to vote again this year," Biden said, adding, "Now because of today's decision, that is highly, highly unlikely. It's a terrible disservice to the people of this nation."

Republican Donald Trump, on the other hand, welcomed the ruling. In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, he labelled the decision a "big win for our Constitution and democracy."

'I know how to do this job': Joe Biden's new election campaign ad paints Donald Trump as 'liar'

With a little over four months left for the United States presidential election, the presumptive nominees Joe Biden and Donald Trump took the stage for the first debate, on Thursday (Jun 28) night. The debate was marked by Biden's underwhelming performance and his inability to call Trump out on his <a href="https://www.wionews.com/videos/biden-stumbles-as-trump-spreads-falsehoods-how-the-us-media-reported-the-debate-736056">many false claims</a>.

<h2>High-stakes debate</h2>

After <a href="https://www.wionews.com/videos/us-presidential-election-2024-timeline-2024-2025-735905">months of campaigning</a>, Biden and Trump finally went head-to-head for the first time since the last presidential debates in 2020. A lot has changed since then, except for one thing.&nbsp;

Four years ago, Americans were not thrilled with their choices, and this time around, it is more of the same.

On one hand, there is the 81-year-old Democrat whose age has been in the spotlight more than his policies and time in office and on the other&nbsp;78-year-old&nbsp;convicted felon.&nbsp;

Biden is the oldest American president and has repeatedly failed to quell the concerns about his age, and this debate may be the final nail in the coffin for&nbsp;Democrats.&nbsp;

Thursday’s debate was also Trump’s first since he opted out of Republican primary debates.&nbsp;

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee’s performance was much like one of his rallies marked by false claims, attacking people, and boasting about his (non)achievements.&nbsp;

<h2>What happened during the debate?</h2>

In an interview with MSNBC after the debate, Vice President Kamala Harris said, “It was a slow start…but I thought it was a strong finish.”&nbsp;

This quote essentially encapsulates Biden’s underwhelming performance; as he did manage to talk about some of the policies that he plans to work on if reelected, calling it a “strong finish” would be a bit of a stretch.&nbsp;

The 90-minute debate between the two oldest presidential candidates was hosted by CNN in Atlanta, Georgia, with no audience.&nbsp;

The incumbent president started slow and was heard speaking in a <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/watch-biden-freezes-forgets-lines-at-crucial-presidential-debate-appears-sick-with-raspy-voice-735857">hoarse voice</a> which the White House officials attributed to a cold.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Trump seemed more succinct in his responses while his successor struggled to speak within the time limit and had to be stopped by the moderators on multiple occasions.&nbsp;

The former president also often avoided answering the questions asked in favour of responding to what his rival said.&nbsp;

Biden and Trump were asked questions related to a range of issues including, the economy, abortion, and foreign policy.&nbsp;

Economy

The debate started with questions about one of the top concerns among American voters – the economy.&nbsp;

With soaring inflation and a rise in the cost of living, voters are concerned about which candidate will take over the White House for the next four years and how their policies will affect the economy.&nbsp;

While both Trump and Biden have improved certain sections of the economy during their time in office, recent polls have indicated that voters favour Republicans over Democrats when it comes to handling the economy.&nbsp;

Less than 15 minutes into the debate, Biden while talking about Medicare and tax reforms seemingly lost his train of thought.&nbsp;

Tax reform would create money to help “strengthen our healthcare system, making sure that we’re able to make every single solitary person eligible for what I was able to do with the, with the COVID, excuse me, with dealing with everything we had to do with,” he&nbsp;said.&nbsp;

After pausing and a few seconds of fumbling, the incumbent president continued, “We finally beat Medicare.”

Meanwhile, Trump falsely&nbsp;claimed that the US had the “greatest economy in the history of our country” when he was in office.

According to a fact-check by the Associated Press, the COVID-19 pandemic triggered a massive recession and the Trump administration borrowed $3.1 trillion in 2020 to stabilise it.&nbsp;

Furthermore, even if the pandemic factor is excluded, growth after inflation under Trump averaged 2.49 per cent, as per data from the World Bank.&nbsp;

The former president also left fewer jobs than when he took office.&nbsp;

Abortion

On the campaign trail, Trump has repeatedly taken credit for overturning Roe v Wade, the constitutional right to an abortion, which had been in place for 50 years.&nbsp;

Abortion is <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/biden-vs-trump-in-us-presidential-debate-2024-top-takeaways-explained-735850">one of the issues</a> where Democrats have the upper hand and support from voters, but Biden failed to rise to the occasion.&nbsp;

Surprisingly, Trump said that he supported the recent decision where the Supreme Court unanimously rejected an effort to restrict access to the abortion pill, but&nbsp;still thinks that the decision about abortion rights should be left up to the states.&nbsp;

However,&nbsp;in true Trump fashion, he went on to make an outlandish claim that Democrats are allowing “late-term abortions” – which is not a medical term – and falsely claimed the former governor of Virginia supported killing babies.&nbsp;

The claim stems from an interview when the then-governor of Virginia Ralph Northam, a Democrat,&nbsp;was describing a hypothetical situation where a foetus was severely deformed or wasn’t otherwise viable.&nbsp;

He suggested that the “infant would be delivered,” “kept comfortably,” and “resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired.” However, at no point did he talk about killing the newborn.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Biden said he would restore Roe v Wade, but then seemingly mixed up two different stories as he digressed and somehow ended up talking about a “young woman who just was murdered…by an immigrant.”

Immigration

Since the beginning of the debate, Trump seemed eager to talk about the border and immigration; bringing&nbsp;it up 11 and a half minutes into the debate saying that the only jobs that Biden created were for illegal immigrants.&nbsp;

Notably, the former president said the word “border” 36 times during the 90-minute debate and repeatedly attacked his successor over border security.&nbsp;

Immigration and border security are the top Republican talking points and have been central to their messaging ahead of this election.&nbsp;

While talking about immigration, Trump falsely claimed “people are coming in and killing our citizens at a level like we’ve never seen before.”&nbsp;

He also claimed that Biden wants to “open borders” which is also incorrect considering the incumbent has recently signed restrictive measures into law which are similar to that of his predecessor.&nbsp;

Foreign policy&nbsp;

The presidential nominees were asked about the Russia-Ukraine war as well as the conflict&nbsp;between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. But, Trump repeatedly attacked Biden over America’s chaotic departure from Afghanistan in 2021.&nbsp;

Notably,&nbsp;Russian President&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/russias-sarcastic-jibe-at-biden-trump-debate-putin-didnt-set-his-alarm-736142">Vladimir Putin</a> was mentioned nearly 12 times during the debate as Trump and Biden butted heads over the Ukraine war.

“If we had a real president, (who)...was respected by Putin, he would have never invaded Ukraine,” said the former president.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Biden called the Russian president a “war criminal” and criticised Trump for the time he said he would let Putin take over Ukraine and pull out of NATO. “He has no idea what the hell he’s talking about.”

Speaking about the war in Gaza, Trump said that Biden has “become a Palestinian” and is not letting Israel “finish the job”.&nbsp;

On the contrary, the Biden administration has repeatedly come under fire over their support for Israel, with polls showing a dip in the number of young voters backing the incumbent US president because of it.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Biden spoke about his peace plan for Gaza and said that the US is “providing Israel all the weapons they need.”

January 6 and election result

When asked about the January 6 attack on the Capitol by his supporters, Trump avoided answering the question and said on that day “nobody” was coming through the border, we had the “lowest taxes ever,” “lowest regulations ever,” and the US was “respected all over the world”.&nbsp;

Subsequently, the debate moderator pressed Trump to answer saying that voters are “worried” that you will do that again.&nbsp;

Eventually, Trump, speaking of the day when his supporters stormed the US Capitol in a bid to stop the certification of Biden’s victory, falsely claimed there were a “relatively small number of people” and in “many cases were ushered in by the police.”

However, the attack on the US Capitol has been described as the deadliest assault on the seat of American power in over 200 years and Trump’s claims about that day have been debunked time and again.&nbsp;

Biden called him a “whiner” who cannot handle loss and said that Trump did nothing to stop his supporters, who he said Trump has referred to as “great patriots of America,” from storming the Capitol.&nbsp;

Subsequently, the Republican was asked if would accept the results of the upcoming elections regardless of who wins. Trump dodged the question two times by rambling about other issues before he was asked a third time.&nbsp;

“If it’s a fair and legal and good election, absolutely,” said Trump in his response.&nbsp;

The former president and his supporters, including many from the Republican party, have repeatedly spewed false claims&nbsp;that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump.&nbsp;

<h2>Attacks against each other</h2>

An analysis by the New York Times showed that Trump and Biden collectively spent nearly 31 minutes <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/trump-makes-fiery-attack-on-biden-calls-him-manchurian-candidate-paid-by-china-735959">attacking each other</a>.&nbsp;

The former president reportedly spent at least 44 per cent of his time launching attacks against his successor who, in turn, spent 35 per cent of his time responding and/or taking shots at his predecessor.&nbsp;

At one point, Trump took a jab at Biden for his incoherence and said, “I really don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence. I don’t think he knows what he said.”

The two also challenged each other to a golf match, a driving test, and a cognitive test. “I told you before that I’m happy to play golf. If you can carry your own bag, think you can do it?” Biden told Trump.&nbsp;

Arguably, one of the comical moments of the debate was when the incumbent US president attacked his predecessor over his many legal woes.&nbsp;

Trump was seen nodding along until Biden accused him of having sex with adult film actor Stormy Daniels, while his wife, Melania, was pregnant. “You have the morals of an alley cat,” Biden said.&nbsp;

“I didn’t have sex with a porn star,” Trump said in response.&nbsp;

<h2>Who won this round?</h2>

It is safe to say that this debate did not go well for Biden and his underwhelming performance has sent Democrats into a frenzy.&nbsp;

Prominent Democratic lawmakers are worried, a Congressional aide who works for a Democratic senator told Reuters. She noted her boss is “sitting with other frontline members and panicking. Let the Democratic bedwetting begin.”

But in addition to the panic, some <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/democrats-embarrassed-as-biden-stumbles-during-debate-mull-replacing-him-735913">reports suggest</a> that Democrats are seeking to replace Biden with many&nbsp;anxious over&nbsp;his performance in the high-stakes&nbsp;elections.&nbsp;

A flash poll by CNN following the debate showed Trump was leading against Biden with 67 per cent of debate watchers voting for the former president when compared to the 33 per cent supporting the incumbent president.&nbsp;

“Joe Biden looked very weak and confused right from the start…I was shocked and dismayed. I hate to see our president acting that way on TV and in front of the world,” one of the 13 “undecideds” told Reuters.

The <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/us-presidential-debate-trump-won-but-how-badly-did-biden-lose-735954">jury is still out</a> on whether Trump can be called a winner in this debate considering the number of lies he spewed on the stage.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Biden, despite his nearly week-long prep at Camp David presidential retreat and facts on&nbsp;his side, mumbled and stumbled his way through the debate.&nbsp;

According to a fact check by CNN, Trump made more than 30 false and misleading claims during the debate when compared to Biden’s nine.&nbsp;

This point was aptly put&nbsp;by CNN’s political commentator, Van Jones who said, “Biden stuttered, but he told the truth.”&nbsp;

He added, “He looked terrible, but his policies were good. Trump spoke plainly, but he lied the whole time. He looked good, but his policies were terrible.”

The next presidential debate is scheduled for September 10 and will be hosted by ABC News.&nbsp;

Less than 15 minutes into the debate, Biden while talking about Medicare and tax reforms seemingly lost his train of thought. Tax reform would create money to help “strengthen our healthcare system, making sure that we’re able to make every single solitary person eligible for what I was able to do with the, with the COVID, excuse me, with dealing with everything we had to do with,” he said. After pausing and a few seconds of fumbling, the incumbent president continued, “We finally beat Medicare.” Meanwhile, Trump falsely claimed that the US had the “greatest economy in the history of our country” when he was in office. According to a fact-check by the Associated Press, the COVID-19 pandemic triggered a massive recession and the Trump administration borrowed $3.1 trillion in 2020 to stabilise it. Furthermore, even if the pandemic factor is excluded, growth after inflation under Trump averaged 2.49 per cent, as per data from the World Bank. The former president also left fewer jobs than when he took office. Abortion On the campaign trail, Trump has repeatedly taken credit for overturning Roe v Wade, the constitutional right to an abortion, which had been in place for 50 years. Abortion is one of the issues where Democrats have the upper hand and support from voters, but Biden failed to rise to the occasion. Surprisingly, Trump said that he supported the recent decision where the Supreme Court unanimously rejected an effort to restrict access to the abortion pill, but still thinks that the decision about abortion rights should be left up to the states. However, in true Trump fashion, he went on to make an outlandish claim that Democrats are allowing “late-term abortions” – which is not a medical term – and falsely claimed the former governor of Virginia supported killing babies. The claim stems from an interview when the then-governor of Virginia Ralph Northam, a Democrat, was describing a hypothetical situation where a foetus was severely deformed or wasn’t otherwise viable. He suggested that the “infant would be delivered,” “kept comfortably,” and “resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired.” However, at no point did he talk about killing the newborn. Meanwhile, Biden said he would restore Roe v Wade, but then seemingly mixed up two different stories as he digressed and somehow ended up talking about a “young woman who just was murdered…by an immigrant.” Immigration Since the beginning of the debate, Trump seemed eager to talk about the border and immigration; bringing it up 11 and a half minutes into the debate saying that the only jobs that Biden created were for illegal immigrants. Notably, the former president said the word “border” 36 times during the 90-minute debate and repeatedly attacked his successor over border security. Immigration and border security are the top Republican talking points and have been central to their messaging ahead of this election. While talking about immigration, Trump falsely claimed “people are coming in and killing our citizens at a level like we’ve never seen before.” He also claimed that Biden wants to “open borders” which is also incorrect considering the incumbent has recently signed restrictive measures into law which are similar to that of his predecessor. Foreign policy The presidential nominees were asked about the Russia-Ukraine war as well as the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. But, Trump repeatedly attacked Biden over America’s chaotic departure from Afghanistan in 2021. Notably, Russian President Vladimir Putin was mentioned nearly 12 times during the debate as Trump and Biden butted heads over the Ukraine war. “If we had a real president, (who)...was respected by Putin, he would have never invaded Ukraine,” said the former president. Meanwhile, Biden called the Russian president a “war criminal” and criticised Trump for the time he said he would let Putin take over Ukraine and pull out of NATO. “He has no idea what the hell he’s talking about.” Speaking about the war in Gaza, Trump said that Biden has “become a Palestinian” and is not letting Israel “finish the job”. On the contrary, the Biden administration has repeatedly come under fire over their support for Israel, with polls showing a dip in the number of young voters backing the incumbent US president because of it. Meanwhile, Biden spoke about his peace plan for Gaza and said that the US is “providing Israel all the weapons they need.” January 6 and election result When asked about the January 6 attack on the Capitol by his supporters, Trump avoided answering the question and said on that day “nobody” was coming through the border, we had the “lowest taxes ever,” “lowest regulations ever,” and the US was “respected all over the world”. Subsequently, the debate moderator pressed Trump to answer saying that voters are “worried” that you will do that again. Eventually, Trump, speaking of the day when his supporters stormed the US Capitol in a bid to stop the certification of Biden’s victory, falsely claimed there were a “relatively small number of people” and in “many cases were ushered in by the police.” However, the attack on the US Capitol has been described as the deadliest assault on the seat of American power in over 200 years and Trump’s claims about that day have been debunked time and again. Biden called him a “whiner” who cannot handle loss and said that Trump did nothing to stop his supporters, who he said Trump has referred to as “great patriots of America,” from storming the Capitol. Subsequently, the Republican was asked if would accept the results of the upcoming elections regardless of who wins. Trump dodged the question two times by rambling about other issues before he was asked a third time. “If it’s a fair and legal and good election, absolutely,” said Trump in his response. The former president and his supporters, including many from the Republican party, have repeatedly spewed false claims that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump. Attacks against each other An analysis by the New York Times showed that Trump and Biden collectively spent nearly 31 minutes attacking each other. The former president reportedly spent at least 44 per cent of his time launching attacks against his successor who, in turn, spent 35 per cent of his time responding and/or taking shots at his predecessor. At one point, Trump took a jab at Biden for his incoherence and said, “I really don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence. I don’t think he knows what he said.” The two also challenged each other to a golf match, a driving test, and a cognitive test. “I told you before that I’m happy to play golf. Arguably, one of the comical moments of the debate was when the incumbent US president attacked his predecessor over his many legal woes. A flash poll by CNN following the debate showed Trump was leading against Biden with 67 per cent of debate watchers voting for the former president when compared to the 33 per cent supporting the incumbent president. “Joe Biden looked very weak and confused right from the start…I was shocked and dismayed. I hate to see our president acting that way on TV and in front of the world,” one of the 13 “undecideds” told Reuters. The jury is still out on whether Trump can be called a winner in this debate considering the number of lies he spewed on the stage. Meanwhile, Biden, despite his nearly week-long prep at Camp David presidential retreat and facts on his side, mumbled and stumbled his way through the debate. According to a fact check by CNN, Trump made more than 30 false and misleading claims during the debate when compared to Biden’s nine. This point was aptly put by CNN’s political commentator, Van Jones who said, “Biden stuttered, but he told the truth.” He added, “He looked terrible, but his policies were good. Trump spoke plainly, but he lied the whole time. He looked good, but his policies were terrible.” The next presidential debate is scheduled for September 10 and will be hosted by ABC News. The child’s death was confirmed by Texas officials, in a statement, but no other details about where the child was from or why they became ill were immediately released by the authorities. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, the child was three years old and died Thursday in Marion County, in the southern part of the US state.&nbsp;

The officials in the state of Illinois said that they are working with the health officials, state police and federal authorities to the “fullest extent possible to get answers in this tragic situation.”

“Every loss of life is a tragedy,” said the Texas Division of Emergency Management, in a statement. It added, “Once the child presented with health concerns, the bus pulled over and security personnel on board called 911 for emergency attention.”&nbsp;

A report by the American media outlet CBS News reported that the toddler was a girl from Venezuela. According to the Texas officials, the child received treatment from paramedics and later died at a hospital.&nbsp;

Texas officials said that the temperature of all passengers was taken and they were also asked about any medical conditions. The bus departed from the Texas border city of Brownsville and was heading for Chicago, Illinois.&nbsp;

<h2>Operation Lone Star</h2>

As a part of Texas’ Republican Governor Greg Abbott’s sprawling mission on the border, called Operation Lone Star, the state has bused more than 30,000 migrants to Democratic-controlled cities across the US since 2022.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden’s administration is also suing the state for the wrecking ball-sized buoys placed on the Rio Grande, earlier this year, which pose environmental and humanitarian concerns.&nbsp;

The so-called operation has also come under scrutiny amid recent reports of Texas officials separating some migrant families on the border. When asked about the toddler’s death, US Representative Henry Cuellar, a Democrat whose district includes the Texas border said he was unaware about the incident.&nbsp;

“You can’t use the migrants as political pawns. You still got to be accountable to taking care of them, especially if you're transporting kids,” said Cuellar. He also criticised Abbott and said that the Texas governor should work with the federal government on border security.

As a part of this so-called operation, Texas has also sent buses to Washington, New York, Philadelphia, Denver and Los Angeles. Who is Rejani Raveendran, Indian-born college student & first Republican to challenge Democrat for Senate

Bahta Mekonnen, a 28-year-old U.S. Army captain from the key voting state of Georgia, is among the millions of&nbsp;Black&nbsp;voters who helped deliver President Joe Biden the White House in 2020.

Three years later, he is one of the voters who Democrats fear could cost Biden a second term in 2024.

Disappointed by what he sees as Democrats' lurch to the left, free spending and empty promises, but also turned off by far-right Republicans, Mekonnen says he sees nothing but bad options at the ballot box next year.

"What I'm noticing across the Democratic Party right now is there's a lot of pandering to the&nbsp;Black&nbsp;community," he said. "It seems like they do a lot to try to make it seem like they are the party for young&nbsp;Black&nbsp;men or&nbsp;Black&nbsp;men as a whole, but they don't back it with anything. They don't follow through."

Long the most loyal Democratic constituency,&nbsp;Black&nbsp;voters played a large role in rescuing Biden's struggling 2020 presidential campaign in the South Carolina primary, and sending him to the White House with Democrats in control of the Senate, thanks to further success in Georgia.

In return, many&nbsp;Black&nbsp;voters expected Biden and Democrats to push new federal protections against restrictive local voting laws, police and criminal justice reform, student loan debt relief and economic empowerment.

Many of those efforts have been blocked by Republicans, leaving Biden to ask voters to let him "finish this job," with a second term, but with no clear path to get these things done.

On the other hand, Democrats' focus on LGBTQ and abortion rights leaves voters like Mekonnen feeling alienated.

"I'm probably getting turned away from the left, just because the Democrats are turning more left in my books," he said, adding he wished Democrats spent more time on the economy.

Polls and Reuters interviews show younger&nbsp;Black&nbsp;voters and&nbsp;Black&nbsp;men of all ages are losing their faith in Democrats, Biden and perhaps even the political process, just three years after the U.S.'s biggest protests for racial justice and civil rights in a generation.

The vast majority of&nbsp;Black&nbsp;voters, including men, are still expected to choose Biden over a Republican.

But the question for Democrats is whether disillusioned&nbsp;Black&nbsp;voters will turn out to the polls in large enough numbers in crucial cities, from Philadelphia to Atlanta, Milwaukee and Detroit to keep Biden in the White House.

"Democrats need to understand that there is a growing population, especially with&nbsp;Black&nbsp;men, who are reaching the point of being fed up with always being pushed over and looked over," said LeLann Evans, 33, a political campaign manager who is running as a write-in candidate for Nashville City Council.

Democrats' failure to secure widespread student loan relief or legalize marijuana has been disappointing, Evans said, adding that Republicans' more aggressive approach when they have power means they are "actually getting things done."

<h2>Turnout drops</h2>

Self-identified&nbsp;Black&nbsp;Americans make up 14.2 per cent&nbsp;of the U.S. population, or 42.7 million people, a 30 per cent&nbsp;jump from 2000, Pew Research shows. One in five&nbsp;Black&nbsp;people under the age of 50 voted Republican in the 2022 midterms, roughly double the number of their elders, according to a previously unreported analysis of exit polling data by HIT Strategies, a public opinion research firm aligned with Democrats that routinely surveys&nbsp;Black&nbsp;Americans.&nbsp;Black&nbsp;men and women under the age of 50 voted Republican in similar numbers, the poll showed.

Republican Donald Trump's 12 per cent&nbsp;share of the&nbsp;Black&nbsp;vote in 2020 was four percentage points higher than it was in 2016, according to exit polls by Edison Research.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted July 11-17 found 18 per cent&nbsp;of&nbsp;Black&nbsp;Americans would pick Trump over Biden in a hypothetical matchup, compared to 46 per cent&nbsp;who favored Biden, including about one in four&nbsp;Black&nbsp;men, compared to about one in seven&nbsp;Black&nbsp;women.

Compared with&nbsp;Black&nbsp;women,&nbsp;Black&nbsp;men were more likely to say they would back a presidential candidate that supported abortion restrictions and increased police funding to fight crime.

<h2>Economic gains?</h2>

Democrats are favored by&nbsp;Black&nbsp;voters who value abortion rights, voting rights and opposition to racism, says Terrance Woodbury, chief executive officer at HIT Strategies.

But that margin shrinks when it comes to managing the economy.

"When you get to economic issues - economic security, inflation, job security - those 50 and 60 point gaps began to shrink to near parity, where you have young&nbsp;Black&nbsp;folks saying that Republicans are almost as good for them on the economy as Democrats are," Woodbury said.

Julian Silas, 25, a&nbsp;Black&nbsp;investment research analyst from the Chicago area, said many of his friends and family are reexamining their politics and questioning just how much the loyalty of&nbsp;Black&nbsp;Americans to the Democratic Party bettered their lives, particularly their economic standing.

Every four years, Democratic candidates talk about increasing&nbsp;Black&nbsp;wealth and closing the gap between&nbsp;Black&nbsp;and white Americans, but "nothing actually really happens," Silas said.

"It seems like there's things that they talk about that seem good, that I can align with, like student loan debt relief or home ownership and all these different things, but maybe sometimes it doesn't feel like it's moving fast enough," Silas said.

The U.S.&nbsp;Black&nbsp;unemployment rate has fallen to historic lows under Biden, but hit a 10-month high in June, driven in large part by&nbsp;Black&nbsp;workers leaving the labor market.

Black&nbsp;families had 4.4 per cent&nbsp;of total household wealth in the first quarter of 2023, Federal Reserve data show, up slightly from 4.3 per cent&nbsp;at the beginning of 2020.

The Democratic Party has spent considerable time, money and resources to retain and expand the&nbsp;Black&nbsp;vote, including mounting registration drives in battleground states and recruiting&nbsp;Black&nbsp;campaign staff.

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, the first&nbsp;Black&nbsp;person to hold that position and the highest U.S.&nbsp;Black&nbsp;elected official, and Jaime Harrison, the African-American chairman of the Democratic National Committee, attended this summer's Essence Festival of Culture in New Orleans and have lavished attention on historically&nbsp;Black&nbsp;colleges and universities and media outlets including&nbsp;Black&nbsp;radio stations.

Harris spoke at the annual NAACP gathering on Saturday.

"As we head into the 2024 cycle, the DNC is doubling down on our commitment to engaging&nbsp;Black&nbsp;voters with meaningful and sustained investments to make sure they know how President Biden and Vice President Harris have delivered for them," said Tracy King, the DNC's director of outreach communications, in an emailed statement.

For some, right now, that's not enough.

"I'm kind of stuck with Biden until someone else comes along," said Andre Russell, 47 and from Chicago, who works in education. "As a society we definitely have to move past the trope of old white men running everything."

Biden losing popularity amongst Black voters close to 2024 elections

United States Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, on Sunday (July 9), urged the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to investigate YouTube stars KSI and Logan Paul’s ‘PRIME’ energy drink supposedly containing nearly twice the caffeine of a Red Bull which he said is being marketed to children. This comes amid increasing scrutiny for the viral beverage brand which was launched last year.&nbsp;

<h2>About the ‘PRIME’ energy drink</h2>

‘PRIME’ energy drink was reported to be an instant hit following its launch by YouTube stars KSI and Logan Paul. The beverage in question contains 200 milligrams of caffeine per 12-ounce can (approximately 354.8 ml can) which is equal to six cans of Coca-Cola or nearly two Red Bulls, reported Reuters.&nbsp;

A warning on the company website says that the drink is not recommended for children under the age of 18, women who are pregnant or nursing, or individuals who are sensitive to caffeine.&nbsp;

However, the drink is particularly popular among children and has become somewhat of a status symbol. But amid concerns about its high levels of caffeine several schools in the US, the United Kingdom, and Australia have reportedly banned the drinks.&nbsp;

Logan Paul and KSI, who have a total of 48 million YouTube followers, also launched a caffeine-free PRIME Hydration drink&nbsp;last year. It was not until January this year that the company launched its caffeinated PRIME Energy drink which is also said to be sugar-free and vegan.&nbsp;

<h2>Concerns raised by Schumer&nbsp;</h2>

During a press conference, on Sunday in New York, Schumer alleged that the drink is being targeted towards children despite its high caffeine content. “Buyer and parents beware because it’s a serious health concern for the kids it so feverishly targets,” said the top Democrat.&nbsp;

Speaking about the drink’s high caffeine content he said, “This is an eye-popping level of caffeine for a young kid’s body.”&nbsp;

Schumer alleged that with the company’s “near identical” packaging and marketing of Prime Energy and its caffeine-free drink, parents have accidentally bought the “cauldron of caffeine” for their children.

“Because the product is billed as a hydration and sports drink in its other, near identical form, kids are likely to ingest cans of this stuff with the parents being unaware,” said the US Senate majority leader.&nbsp;

In an interview with CBS, Schumer also claimed that the company’s “main target” is&nbsp;“kids under 18,” adding that they “see it on their phones as they scroll, and then they actually have a need for it".

<h2>How has the company responded to these allegations?</h2>

In a statement to Hindustan Times, a PRIME representative said, “It is very important to make the distinction between the two products (PRIME Energy and PRIME Hydration) because they are vastly different. We started PRIME last year with the launch of Hydration, a healthier sports drink alternative that comes in a bottle.”&nbsp;

It added, “PRIME Energy, sold in a can, dropped in 2023 and contains a comparable amount of caffeine to other top-selling energy drinks, all falling within the legal limit of the countries it’s sold in. It complied with all FDA guidelines before hitting the market and states clearly on packaging, as well as in marketing materials, that it is an energy drink and is not made for anyone under the age of 18.”&nbsp;

The PRIME representative also spoke about how their brand’s “top priority” is consumer safety and they&nbsp;welcome discussions with the FDA or any organisations about the changes they suggest and feel are necessary for consumer safety, reported HT.&nbsp;

DeSantis ripped into Trump by saying the claim was "very bizarre" as Cuomo was involved in the infamous nursing home scandal. “First of all, Florida had less excess mortality than California or New York. Part of that is because states like California had excess mortality derived from the lockdown policy, which is really, really avoidable mortality," said DeSantis in an interview with The Daily Wire's Ben Shapiro. “But if he thinks Cuomo handled it better, that’s an indication if something like this were to happen again, he would double down and do what he did in March of 2020,” he added. "We all have to sit here today in 2023, look back on March of 2020 and say, 'Faucism was wrong. Faucism was destructive. Faucism has set us on this path with the CARES Act and the Fed printing money, creating inflation, and creating some of the economic problems that we have today." "So, if you could do it again, would he do the same thing?" DeSantis added. "I sure hope not." On Thursday, in an election video campaign, Trump said Florida had one of the highest numbers of deaths from COVID-19 in the country. “How about the fact that he had the third most deaths of any state having to do with the China virus or COVID? Even Cuomo did better, he was number four,” Trump claimed. However, DeSantis turned the tide when he asked if Trump would have doubled down on Cuomo's plan if he was given a do-over. During the early stages of the pandemic in March 2020, the democrat leader issued a highly troublesome executive order that forced nursing homes to admit COVID-19 patients so that hospital space could be freed and numbers not look catastrophic. However, the move severely backfired as the senior citizens - termed the most vulnerable due to the virus, contracted it and died en masse. The policy remained in effect till May 10 before it was quietly withdrawn but not before it had caused the damage. According to a study by Empire Centre for Public Policy, Cuomo's policy was possibly responsible for more than '1,000 death' as it allowed COVID-19 to spread among vulnerable seniors. The New York State Health Department in a scathing report found that Cuomo had 'misled the public' and reported less death to save his image. “While the Department’s duty is to act solely to promote public health, we determined that, rather than providing accurate and reliable information during a public health emergency, the Department instead conformed its presentation to the Executive’s narrative, often presenting data in a manner that misled the public,” read the report. California's Democratic state Senator Steven Bradford has given a stark reality check to the African Americans in the state who were hoping to receive massive&nbsp;reparation&nbsp;payments.&nbsp;Bradford, who served on the&nbsp;California Reparations Task Force that recommended the state pay up to&nbsp;$1.2 million in reparations to each eligible Black resident said people should keep their 'expectations' in check.&nbsp;

Bradford said “anything’s possible if the money’s there,” but remained&nbsp;“realistic” that it could be difficult to garner enough support.&nbsp;

“I don’t want to set folks’ expectations and hopes up that they’re going to be getting, you know, seven-figure checks,” Bradford said in an interview. “That’s just not happening.”

He added that lawmakers had not even debated where the money for the reparation payment would come from.&nbsp;

Notably, Bradford is not the only Democrat leader casting aspersions over the reparation payments. Reportedly, California Governor Gavin Newsom has also refused&nbsp;to lend his support to the initiative.&nbsp;

"Dealing with that legacy is about much more than cash payments. Many of the recommendations put forward by the Task Force are critical action items we’ve already been hard at work addressing," Newsom&nbsp;told Fox News Digital.

"Breaking down barriers to vote, bolstering resources to address hate, enacting sweeping law enforcement and justice reforms to build trust and safety, strengthening economic mobility - all while investing billions to root out disparities and improve equity in housing, education, healthcare, and well beyond. This work must continue," he added.

The Democrat leader, however, applauded the work of the task force and said his administration will continue the process of healing.&nbsp;

Disappointed by the comments of Democrat leaders,&nbsp;Los Angeles resident and reparations activist Marcus Champion remarked, “That is not the way you come to the table to pay a historic debt. That is not the way that you come to the table in any type of negotiation. Start as high as you possibly can, and then work from there.”

<h2>Proposals approved by the task force</h2>

Last week, a&nbsp;nine-member Reparation Task Force, formed nearly two years ago, met in Oakland and gave final approval to the list of proposals which will now head to the state lawmakers to be considered for legislation.

Among the list of approvals granted by the task force&nbsp;is a public apology, acknowledging the&nbsp;state’s responsibility for past wrongs and promising that it will not repeat them.

However, the biggest talking point has been the reparation money that the exchequer might owe to the Black residents if the proposal is turned into a law.&nbsp;

According to some reports, the proposal,&nbsp;if implemented, could cost as much as $800&nbsp;billion (2.5 times the annual budget of California) for decades of over-policing, disproportionate incarceration and housing discrimination.&nbsp;

The Metropolitan Council of Nashville and Davidson County held a vote to reinstate Jones, who on Thursday had become the first state representative ever to be expelled from the statehouse for violating the chamber’s rules on decorum without an investigation or accusations of serious misconduct. The vote which was held during a special session of the council saw unanimous support with a 36-0.&nbsp;

Addressing the state House of Representatives, on Monday, after being reinstated, Jones said, “I want to welcome the people back to the people’s house. I want to welcome democracy back to the people’s house.” Jones, who had been elected to Tennessee’s House of Representatives last year, has been appointed again as the interim representative.&nbsp;

Previously, both Nashville lawmaker Jones and Memphis lawmaker Justin Pearson, his Black Democratic colleague who was also expelled, had vowed to return to the statehouse.&nbsp;Memphis Board of Commissioners is expected to vote on Wednesday which would decide if Pearson would be allowed to temporarily regain his seat. Meanwhile, the duo has said that they will also contest in special elections in the coming months to permanently fill the seats.

Protests outside the Tennessee Statehouse

During the Metro Council vote, there were around 600 protesters gathered outside to show their support for Jones, waving signs and chanting “Whose house? Our house!” and “No Justin, no peace”, a play on the civil rights slogan, “No justice, no peace,” reported Al-Jazeera.&nbsp;
