The moments of lucidity which do not necessarily indicate death are sometimes called paradoxical lucidity. They are considered as paradoxical as it goes against the expected course of neurodegenerative diseases like dementia. The helicopter and rangers later returned to the mountain to retrieve the body of the dead&nbsp;climber. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.

At least seven people were killed and another 21 wounded when a race car ploughed into spectators at a packed motorsport event hosted by Sri Lanka's army Sunday (Apr 21), police said.

A driver crashed into the crowd on an unprotected stretch of the track at the Fox Hill circuit, which is maintained by the Sri Lankan army.

A video shared widely on social media showed track marshals waving yellow flags to warn other drivers to slow down after a car overturned on the track.

The drivers are seen speeding past in clouds of orange dust until a red car slams into the crowd, and people are heard screaming.

"A total of 27 people were taken to hospital and seven of them succumbed to their injuries," spokesman Nihal Thalduwa said, adding that an eight-year-old girl was among the dead.

An inquiry into the death of a student potentially caused by prolonged laughing gas use revealed that she was inhaling two to three "large bottles" of the substance daily, as reported by The Independent.

According to the Berkshire coroner’s court, Ellen Mercer, aged 24, sought medical assistance from emergency services in the early hours of February 9 last year due to her inability to walk without falling over. She received medical treatment at Wexham Park Hospital Emergency Department but unfortunately passed away approximately 24 hours later, at 12:52 am on February 10.

During the inquest, Senior Coroner Heidi Connor mentioned that "nitrous oxide gas," commonly referred to as laughing gas, contributed to "part of her cause of death." The post-mortem report revealed that Ellen Mercer's death was attributed to bilateral pulmonary thromboembolism, deep vein thrombosis, and "long-term complications associated with nitrous oxide use."

Michaela Kirtley, an emergency medical technician from Phoenix Response Services, affiliated with the South Central Ambulance Service, visited Mercer’s residence on February 8.

Upon arrival, Mercer’s boyfriend guided her to the bedroom.

“I took notice of the room,” Kirtley recalled.

“There were no sheets on the bed at all. There was just the duvet, severely stained. The room was bare.”

This sight led Kirtley to recognise the vulnerability of the individual she was dealing with.

According to Kirtley, Mercer “was talking as normal,” and the only abnormal vital sign noted was her heart rate, which could have been elevated due to anxiety.

Upon inspecting&nbsp;Mercer's leg wounds, described as "pussy," Kirtley's concerns heightened.

During the inquest, Kirtley recounted that&nbsp;Mercer's boyfriend presented a box of gas canisters, identified as nitrous oxide. Kirtley remarked that these canisters were unusually large, weighing 600g. According to&nbsp;Mercer's boyfriend, she consumed "two to three bottles" per day, although her intake had decreased in recent weeks.

Mercer informed Kirtley that she had lost consciousness, resulting in the gas canister falling onto her legs.

Subsequently, an ambulance took Mercer to the hospital.

UK student dies using two to three 'big bottles' of laughing gas daily

In a chilling incident, a pre-medical student allegedly stabbed his mother to death, who was an elementary school teacher, since she “got on his nerves", as reported by the police in Florida.

Emmanuel Espinoza, who is a 21-year-old student pursuing a medical at the University of Florida, was going to a family event when he asked his mother Elvia Espinoza if he could stay with her during the weekend, as reported by the Daily Mail.

However, the second-grade teacher, who was 46 years old, opened the door to welcome his son on Saturday (April 6) at around 2 pm local time, but her knife-wielding son stabbed her mercilessly.

“She lived in the forest, in a very nice house, south of Frostproof,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, in a recorded statement.&nbsp;

“He knocked on the front door, and when mom opened the front door, he began to stab her. She ran from him, she was talking to a family member on the phone, and … he stabbed her until she fell down and died," he said.

"This is a major reason why distributing humanitarian aid in Gaza has been so difficult — because Israel has not done enough to protect aid workers trying to deliver desperately needed help to civilians. Incidents like yesterday's simply should not happen. Israel has also not done enough to protect civilians," he added.

Biden further said that the US had "repeatedly urged Israel to deconflict their military operations against Hamas with humanitarian operations, in order to avoid civilian casualties."

Several other countries expressed their outrage over the killing of seven international aid workers in Gaza as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the convoy was struck by the armed forces "unintentionally".

Meanwhile, humanitarian groups - like Anera and US-based Project Hope - announced that they are suspending operations in the territory in the aftermath of the tragic attack. World Central Kitchen had already halted its operations in Gaza.

Anera said that the decision was an “unprecedented step” and added that the killings, “alongside the loss of numerous other aid workers and their families, has led our team to conclude that delivering aid safely is no longer feasible”.

Seven aid workers of World Central Kitchen, who were leaving a warehouse in Deir al-Balah, were killed in an Israeli strike in central Gaza on Tuesday (April 2).

The seven aid workers were Palestinian, UK, Australian and Polish nationals and one was also a US-Canada dual citizen.

In the wake of the killing of the aid workers, Israel has been facing increasing international pressure and has promised to carry out an independent investigation.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog issued an apology for the deaths. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on the call, in which the latter called the situation in Gaza "increasingly intolerable" and "demanded a thorough and transparent independent investigation" into the aid workers' killing.

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that he has asked his Israeli counterpart Israel Katz&nbsp;for an independent investigation.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that "full accountability" was required and added that it was "absolutely unacceptable for aid workers to be killed" by the IDF.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said, "Someone going about providing aid and humanitarian assistance should [never] lose their life."&nbsp;

Former US&nbsp;senator and Democratic Party vice presidential nominee Joe Lieberman died on Wednesday at age 82 in New York City after suffering complications from a fall, his family said.

He failed in a bid for the 2004 Democratic presidential nomination, hurt by his support for the Iraq War.

"Joe was a man of deep integrity who dedicated his life to serving his country. He was a truly gifted leader, whose affable personality and strong will made him a force to be reckoned with," Gore said in a statement

"That’s why it came as no surprise to any of us who knew him when he’d start singing his favorite song: Frank Sinatra’s 'My Way.' And doing things Joe’s way meant always putting his country and the values of equality and fairness first," Gore said.

A centrist, Lieberman was first elected to the US&nbsp;Senate in 1988. He lost the state's Democratic primary in 2006, but retained his seat by winning the general election as an independent candidate.

The rumour soon gained ground after it was shared on Vedomosti's Telegram channel. Vedomosti is one of the most respected business newspapers in Russia.&nbsp;

The news shared carried a&nbsp;photo of King Charles&nbsp;wearing a ceremonial military uniform, and the caption read, “British King Charles III has died".

The news soon went viral across Russian internet channels, which included Readovka,&nbsp;a pro-Kremlin Telegram channel that has more than 2.35 million subscribers.

No public statement was released by Buckingham Palace and no announcement was made by BBC.&nbsp;

However, Readovka said that it had a document, whose source was unknown and was shared with the photograph of the king.&nbsp;

“The following announcement is made by royal communications. The king passed away unexpectedly yesterday afternoon," it read. The document was dated 18 March 2024.&nbsp;

Even an abdication letter went viral in which Charles’s successor was named “King Bob, the yellow Minion”.

The news also reached Ukraine where it was shared by a leading television station. It also travelled to Tajikistan where its biggest independent media outlet Asia-Plus reported the same.&nbsp;

However, by the time the news started appearing on international media platforms, concerns were raised regarding its credibility.&nbsp;

Russian website Gazeta.Ru originally wrote on X: “King Charles III of Great Britain has died. This is reported by Buckingham Palace. The monarch was 75 years old. He was recently diagnosed with cancer.”&nbsp;

However, it later edited the post, which read, “At the same time, nothing has been written about this in the official British media. Most likely, the information is fake.”&nbsp;

Sharing the post, the Russian foreign ministry spokesperson wrote, “London looks pathetic."

Finally, Russian state news agency Tass' newsflash came which read, “King Charles III continues to perform his official duties and attend private engagements" and placed an end to all rumours.&nbsp;

Drinkard was freed by the emergency personnel of Grovetown, “by cutting the metal frame from around the conveyor and pulling her out," stated the report.

When she was taken out of the machine, Drinkard still had a pulse and life-saving measures were performed on her by emergency personnel before she was hospitalised, as per the incident report.

The Augusta Press, in a statement, confirmed that a worker of Club Car sustained critical injuries in an accident which took place at its primary manufacturing facility.&nbsp;

“First responders were immediately notified, and we thank them for their quick response to provide medical care and transportation to the hospital where the worker unfortunately later passed away," said the company.

According to the University of California Police Department (UCPD), Troper was found dead when authorities responded to reports of an unresponsive student in the dorm.&nbsp;

Troper's grieving grandmother Esther Wojcicki took to Facebook to mourn her grandson, saying he was taken away too soon.

"Marco's life was cut too short. And we are all devastated, thinking about all the opportunities and life experiences that he will miss and we will miss together. Marco, we all love you and miss you more than you will ever know," she added.&nbsp;

Esther, however, in an interview to a US media outlet suggested that her grandson may have died from a drug overdose.&nbsp;

"He ingested a drug, and we don't know what was in it. … One thing we do know, it was a drug," Esther Wojcicki told SFGATE.&nbsp;

Alongside her husband Dennis Troper,&nbsp;Wojcicki has four children. She is yet to issue a statement following her son's death.&nbsp;

Troper was found dead in a University of California, Berkeley campus dormitory where he was a student. According to the University of California Police Department (UCPD), Troper was found dead when authorities responded to reports of an unresponsive student in the dorm. "Berkeley Fire Department notified UCPD that they were attempting life-saving measures on the victim," said UCPS in a statement. "UCPD responded, and Berkeley Fire Department pronounced the person deceased." Based on the initial investigation, authorities said no signs of foul play were found at the scene. Notably, Troper had started the second semester of his freshman year at UC Berkeley where he was majoring in math. He was also part of the Zeta Psi fraternity at the campus. Troper's grieving grandmother Esther Wojcicki took to Facebook to mourn her grandson, saying he was taken away too soon. "Tragedy hit my family yesterday. My beloved grandson Marco Troper, age 19 passed away yesterday. Our family is devastated beyond comprehension," wrote Esther. "Marco's life was cut too short. And we are all devastated, thinking about all the opportunities and life experiences that he will miss and we will miss together. Marco, we all love you and miss you more than you will ever know," she added. Esther, however, in an interview to a US media outlet suggested that her grandson may have died from a drug overdose. "He ingested a drug, and we don't know what was in it. … One thing we do know, it was a drug," Esther Wojcicki told SFGATE.
