A new dating trend is going viral this season. Winter coating is when someone decides to reach out to an old flame amid the colder and darker months in the hopes of gaining a seasonal partner, and ditches them as spring kicks in.

More than 75 per cent of people using dating apps have been subjected to some sort of sexual violence in the past five years, a new study has claimed.

The figures were released on Monday following a survey by the Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC), which showed that three out of four users of dating apps faced sexual violence after using these apps. The institute surveyed 9,987 app users.

Among the most common form of behaviour reported is sexual harassment, with abusive and threatening language, followed by unsolicited sexual images.

The survey further found that sexual violence was more frequent in the case of LGBTIQ+ men and women compared to heterosexual participants.

Among the heterosexual respondents, 79 per cent of women reported some form of online violence, compared with 61 per cent of men.

At least one-third of users faced physical abuse from someone they met on an app, with 27 per cent of those reporting incidents of sexual assault or coercion, such as drink spiking, the researchers noted.

The report pointed out that a “significant proportion” of app users were exposed to online and physical sexual violence.

“This is highly concerning given the significant and potentially long-term impacts associated with these victimisation experiences,” the study said, reports AP news agency.

“These impacts include poorer health and wellbeing, including overall life satisfaction, social isolation and lower self-esteem, as well as increased risk of re-victimisation.”

The study called for urgent improvement in user experience and safety, saying that the dating apps should prioritise easier reporting processes, tougher ID verification to ban perpetrators and censorship of explicit images.

“Considering the long- and short-term implications for victim-survivors after experiencing these harmful behaviours, there is an obvious need to develop mechanisms for protecting users,” the study said.

So 415 men and women in Norway and 577 in the US were given questionnaires. They were asked about what they found attractive in the opposite sex.

It was found that for men, flirtation tactics which indicated generosity and commitment worked best. Indications of willingness to have intimate conversations and spending time together worked best. It was found that reining&nbsp;in urge to have sex worked well for men.

For women, somewhat opposite was found to be effective. While what they dressed played a part, a friendly touch during conversation was found to be effective as well.

But one thing that beat most other factors in terms of attractiveness. Both, men and women rated humour and ability to crack a joke high on the scale of attractiveness.

Spurned over not finding “enough single ladies” on a dating website, a 29-year-old man from Colorado, US, has sued the CEO of the company, claiming that the website does not have enough profiles of women.

Ian Cross, 29 has sued Denver Dating Co. for an undisclosed amount of damages, according to The Denver Post. He has accused the Nevada-based group of fraudulent inducement, breach of contract and deceptive trade practices.

According to the lawsuit, Cross “was interested in engaging a dating service to meet single women his age” and met with a representative named Lisa from the company in January.

Cross believed Lisa’s claims and paid $9,409 for the membership in February. However, he later discovered that there were only five women in the 18 to 35 age range active in the database, according to the lawsuit.

“The Denver Dating Co. uses online reviews of fake or fictitious customers in order to create a false impression with the public regarding the quality and characteristics of its service,” the lawsuit reads.

Several complaints have been filed against The Denver Dating Co., alleging among other things that the company had poor communication skills and used “high pressure sales tactics” to sign new customers.

All over the world, people use Tinder in search of a partner that they could spend time and connect. However, in New Zealand, the dating app is being used by aspiring first-time homebuyers asking for a prospective partner that might assist them in acquiring a house.

According to data provided by Tinder, the number of Kiwis mentioning that they were looking for a partner to buy a house in their Tinder profile had more than doubled.

A Tinder spokeswoman told a New Zealand-based news outlet ‘Stuff’ that&nbsp;the phrase “buy a house” in new users’ bios increased by 2.6 times between June 2020 and June 2021.

The bio is the area of Tinder users’ profiles where they can write about themselves, and outline what they are looking for in a partner.

Tinder provided examples of bios, ranging from light-hearted playful to pure transactional.

“Apparently it's easier to buy a house with someone else. Genuine outdoors bloke looking to settle down hopefully,” a user wrote.

“Bank told me I needed to find a partner to buy a house,” said another one.

“Just want someone to buy a house with, nothing serious,” said a prospective home buyer.

“Apparently it’s easier to buy a house with someone else. Genuine outdoors bloke looking to settle down hopefully,” one man wrote.

“Looking for someone to combine incomes with so we can buy a house using the Kiwibuild $180,000 couples limit,” said another.

However, despite the playful nature of these posts, the growing number of users seeking house also points to a large problem that young Kiwis are facing—housing affordability.

According to local media reports, the average house price across the island nation has soared to NZ $906,532 (approximately US $643,982), up 22% since this time last year.

For the vast majority of homebuyers, banks seek a 20% deposit, and across the country, which means the buyer has to shell out NZ $181,306— which is more than 3.2 times New Zealand’s average annual wage.

Consumer NZ’s survey found that 20% of New Zealanders said they were saving for a deposit but couldn’t catch up, and 42% said they were locked out completely – a total of 62%.

After Facebook Dating, the social networking platform is now testing a video speed-dating app called Sparked that will first allow 4-minute dates to help users find if they are compatible to each other.&nbsp;

Once you 'both have a great time’, dates will then be scheduled for a 10-minute duration. &nbsp;

After that point, Sparked can let the users exchange contact information and stay in touch via Instagram, iMessage, or email, The Verge reported on Tuesday. &nbsp;

Bolton also revealed that Trump “always wanted to be the one who broke up with the girl first”.

“Well, he said that he always, back in the day, as they say, he always wanted to be the one who broke up with the girl first,” Bolton said. “He didn’t want the girl to break up with him. And he used that to describe whether he would cancel the summit with Kim Jong-un first or whether we would risk the North Koreans cancelling it”.

Trump has recently not made any comments on North Korea, especially after North’s violent transgressions whereby it blew up a shared liaison office across the border, which was seen as a symbol of North-South unity.

Trump told a rally in West Virginia earlier while alluding to Kim, “He wrote me beautiful letters, and they’re great letters. We fell in love."

To better equip their students with this social skill, the university has built such a dating course into their curriculum.

In a recent class, teacher Gao Fei presented colourful scarves symbolizing the sacrifices and benefits of a marriage.

Undergraduate students from various majors took turns expressing themselves via this thought-provoking process. They also discussed and wrote down what these sacrifices are.

For the male, it was mostly the loss of personal space and money; and the female - their looks and health.

This class, geared toward marriage, came near the end of a 14-week interdisciplinary course entitled the "Art of Getting Along with the Opposite Sex".

"In this class, the boys shared their views on marriage and changes they may encounter from dating up to marriage. We don't often understand this as girls," said Hou Shufen, a logistics undergraduate student.

In the early parts of this inaugural course, students learned how to make a good first impression, meet the right person, and date.

Gao, the course's founder and teacher, had two aims: to help narrow the gap between knowledge and practice and to better prepare -- than repair -- these students for what is to come in their future.

"The divorce rate in China has been increasing over the past five to eight years, and most of those divorced was born in the early 1980s or even late 1980s if they get married early. Young people born in the early 1990s have also begun to enter into marriage," she said.

For some students, it is more than just a dating and marriage elective.

Ji Zesen, an engineering undergraduate, said this course is necessary. He cited the lack of communication skills most university students face as they focus too much on their academics.

"If we can manage to get along well with the opposite sex, I believe we can also communicate better with the seniors and people of the same sex. The skills can be fully applied to these areas," said Ji.

In China, huge importance is placed on education: nailing good grades, getting into good schools and so on. Now college education is not all about just math and science, it is also about learning social techniques, like the class about dating and marriage here at this university. It all starts from equipping these students with soft skills to hopefully better maneuver today's societal problems and beyond.
