"It's difficult to say. I've not really got a choice," Anderson told reporters on Monday (Jul 8) when asked if he's quitting a bit sooner. The question was in response to Anderson's 7/35 for Lancashire in English county earlier this month.

"It was important for me that I try and put in some good performances to finish with. I loved being out on the field with Lancashire last week. I've always loved playing for Lancashire. I've not played a huge amount for them over the last 20 years because of England duties. But every time I've had a chance to go back to play for them, I've tried to give it my all and that's exactly what I did last week. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the win because of the north-west weather," he added.

His after retirement plans have already been confirmed by England Cricket chief Rob Key. The veteran will be joining the national team as a mentor.

Anderson made his debut against Zimbabwe in May 2003 and has played 187 Tests - the second most after Sachin Tendulkar's 200 and the most for England. He has 700 Test wickets to his name - the third most overall behind Australia spinner Shane Warne (708) and Sri Lanka spinner Muttiah Muralidaran (800).

Among pacers, Anderson's 700 wickets are the most. He's also second on the list of bowlers with most Test wickets at home with 434 scalps to his name and behind only Muralidaran (493). Among other records, Anderson has 119 Test wickets at the Lord's - the second most for a bowler at a single venue behind Muralidaran's 166 at Colombo.

'I let myself down...,' says Virat Kohli after helping India win 2024 T20 World Cup

India became the T20 World Champion by beating South Africa in a thriller on Saturday (June 29). Suryakumar Yadav's brilliant catch to dismiss David Miller on the first ball of the last over with SA needing 16 runs played a pivotal role in it.

Hardik Pandya, bowling the last over, bowled a low and wide full toss outside off which Miller connected well. The ball travelled to long off region where Surya caught the ball just inside the boundary line but was disbalanced. SKY then popped the ball in the air and crossed the boundary only to comeback inside and catch it again. Have a look at the video below:

India became the T20 World Champion by beating South Africa in a thriller on Saturday (June 29). Suryakumar Yadav's brilliant catch to dismiss David Miller on the first ball of the last over with SA needing 16 runs played a pivotal role in it. Hardik Pandya, bowling the last over, bowled a low and wide full toss outside off which Miller connected well. The ball travelled to long off region where Surya caught the ball just inside the boundary line but was disbalanced. SKY then popped the ball in the air and crossed the boundary only to comeback inside and catch it again.
Two-time T20 World Cup champion and 2024 edition ambassador Chris Gayle says that India are going to be hard to beat in the final of ongoing T20 World Cup. Gayle made the comments in a video shared by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Instagram.

“India are going to be so hard to beat. They bat so deep and in Jasprit Bumrah, have a world-class death bowler who can break the hearts of the opponents," Gayle noted.

“In contrast, I picked South Africa as a dark horse before the tournament began, and it is very special to see them finally reach their first final after so many semi-final upsets.

T20 World Cup 2024, Final: 'India are going to...,' Ex-WI batter Chris Gayle makes his pick - WATCH

Bangladesh pacer and vice captain Taskin Ahmed has put the onus of team's poor performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup on batters' 'slump of the decade.' Taskin made the comments upon arrival in Bangladesh capital Dhaka on Friday (June 28) after the team failed to advance to knockout stage.

"When you talk about the batting, if you look at the statistics, I think every [teams'] batting department suffered in the USA this time. Bowlers got a lot of help. We got better [batting] wickets in the West Indies."

"I haven't seen such a long bad patch for the batters in my ten years playing for Bangladesh. I hope it goes away quickly," said Taskin.

It is to be noted that none of the Bangladesh top three could give the team a good start in four matches played in the Group Stage and three in Super 8.

The failure of senior batters like all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah also took a toll on team's performance. Taskin, however, ruled out the possibility of their form impacting the team off the field.

"The seniors' off-form had an effect on the team but not off the field," he said. "They are great team men. We stayed as a team for 47 days. Everything was fine off the field. It is quite normal that a team will have problems when important players are not in form. I am hopeful that we can recover from this, and play better soon."

The pacer also conceded the team's overall poor record in the T20Is but assured of good performances in the future.

"We never had great numbers in T20s. We are improving slowly. We cannot just look at minus points; we are in the negative already. We are trying to get a 'plus'. Your frustration is expected. We will give you a good win. You have to keep faith in us. We will give it our best," the vice captain said.

T20 World Cup 2024: Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed blames batters' bad patch of decade for poor show

India, defending champions England, Afghanistan and South Africa have made it to the T20 World Cup 2024 semifinals. Ahead of the semifinals, here is revealing the two teams who will enter the final if both the knockout games are washed out

T20 WC 2024: What happens if both semifinals are washed out?

South Africa have had a tendency to losing games under pressure and have never won an ICC title.

"The near misses in the past, they belong to the people who missed them," Walter said at the pre-match press conference.

The SA coach, however, agreed there'll be anxiety mixed with excitement given the occasion.

"There'll be a mixture of emotions which is with anxiety but excitement and I think anyone in any sport, if they get to this phase of a competition, feels that. And so really, it's just acknowledging that and accepting it and then just understanding what you'll do with that. We still want to play our best cricket in the key moments of the game tomorrow," said Walter.

Afghanistan coach Jonathan Trott, however, believes that the pressure is on Proteas and not them.

"This is uncharted territory for us. We're just going to go out there and give it our all. There's no preconceived ideas on it all, or history of failure or success in semi-finals in past years. For us it's a new challenge, and I think that makes us dangerous in the semi-finals as a side with nothing to lose and obviously a lot of pressure on the opposition," said the Afghan coach.

The fifth delivery by Starc was a dot ball before he bowled a wide. Rohit hit last ball also for a six to finish the 29-run over. Have a look at the video below:

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir says his only regret from his playing career is not being able to finish 2011 ODI World Cup final. Gambhir, who is widely expected to become next India men's head coach, made the comments at a recent 'Rise To Leadership' seminar.

"I wish I had finished that game. It was my job to finish the game, rather than leaving someone to finish the game. If I had to turn back the clock, I would go back there and score the last run, irrespective of how many runs I scored," Gambhir said.

"I have always thought about performing for the fans, and that has been my thought since the last year of my training career. In the middle, I got this honour of captaining India for six games. I tried doing it to the best of my ability," he said.

"Otherwise, I have no regrets whatsoever because my job was not to captain the series. My job was to make my country win, and whichever team I play for, make that team win," Gambhir added.

Most recently, Gambhir took Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their third title in 2024 season as the mentor of the team. It is to be noted that KKR's previous two IPL title had also come under Gambhir's captaincy.

The Delhi-based player has already appeared for an interview before the BCCI for the head coach job and is expected to take the reins after Rahul Dravid's tenure ends after the ongoing T20 World Cup.

India will be taking on Canada in their final group stage fixture of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 on Saturday (June 15) in Lauderhill, Florida. With 85% chance of rain at the venue, the game could get washed out just like the Ireland vs USA game which resulted in Pakistan crashing out of the tournament.

As for the match, India could give their bench strength a chance, having already secured a top eight berth. India won three back-to-back matches to get through the group stage with the same playing XI. In the match against Canada, they could make a couple of changes which might see Sanju Samson and Kuldeep Yadav getting some game time.

The game will also be the last chance for Virat Kohli to get his form back ahead of the crucial knockout stage.

Kohli, who has opened alongside skipper Rohit Sharma in the three league matches, has scored a mere 4, 1 and 0, respectively. Kohli's record in Lauderhill is also not up to his standards, scoring just 63 runs in three innings at an average of 21.

Another batter who might be itching to get some runs is Hardik Pandya. While the all-rounder has been very effective with the ball, his batting could be a cause of concern for India in the knockout stage.

As for Canada, it will be their last chance to put up another good performance. They had scored 194 against USA, won against Ireland and gave a scare to Pakistan. Canada's batting unit is led by Aaron Johnson who has already become his country's second highest run scorer despite making his debut in 2022 only.

Canada will be hoping to put up a fight with both bat and ball in their first ever T20I match against powerhouse India. The match will start 8 p.m. Indian Standard Time.
