West Indies will host England in the second and penultimate ODI on Saturday (Nov 2). After a good win in the series opener, on Thursday (Oct 31), the Shai Hope-led side will be determined to get past Jos Buttler-less England and seal the series in the upcoming encounter. England, on the other hand, do not have a lot of time to revamp and will be under pressure to level the series.

Talking about the first ODI, everything clicked for the home side. Opting to bowl first, WI pacers struck early before the spinners jolted England's progress and bundled them out for 209 in 45.1 overs.&nbsp;Gudakesh Motie ended with 4 for 41 whereas others also chipped in. For England, stand-in captain Liam Livingstone top-scored with a fine 48 but the inexperienced batting lineup fell flat.

In reply, Evin Lewis led the charge as he smashed the English bowlers to all parts of the ground before a long rain-delay reduced the game to 35 overs, with the revised target being 157. Nonetheless, the writing was on the wall and Lewis (94) took his side to a win in 25.5 overs.

The next edition of the Commonwealth Games will be held in 2026 with a trimmed&nbsp;roster of 10 sports, following the exclusion of cricket, hockey, wrestling, badminton and shooting. Thus, the 23rd edition -- to be from July 23 to August 2 in Glasgow -- will be held without a number of sports in a bid to remain budget-friendly. This move is set to impact India's medal chances, who have been top contenders in sports such as cricket, badminton, hockey, etc.

The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has confirmed the reduction in the sporting events, with the Glasgow 2026 Games featuring a trimmed schedule. The 2022 edition was held with 19 sports in Birmingham. Sports like&nbsp;table tennis, squash, and road racing have also been excluded.

In a statement, the CGF mentioned the sports program, including Athletics and Para Athletics (Track &amp; Field), Swimming and Para Swimming, Artistic Gymnastics, Track Cycling and Para Track Cycling, Netball, Weightlifting and Para Powerlifting, Boxing, Judo, Bowls and Para Bowls, and 3—3 Basketball and 3—3 Wheelchair Basketball. Notably, shooting wasn't part of the 2022 edition as well, due to logistical&nbsp;reasons.

Initially, Victoria was set to host&nbsp;the Games, however,&nbsp;withdrew&nbsp;last year due to financial issues. Glasgow, thus, stepped&nbsp;in to host the quadrennial multi-sport games in 2026. This also marks Glasgow's return as the host city after 12 years, after the 2014 edition.

The forthcoming Games will take place across four venues: Scotstoun Stadium, Tollcross International Swimming Centre, Emirates Arena (including the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome), and the Scottish Event Campus (SEC). The athletes and their support staff will be provided hotel accommodation as well.

For India, the news of the now-removed sports is a huge loss. Overall, hockey (more than five medals), wrestling (114 medals across categories), shooting (135 medals), badminton (31 medals) and cricket (where the women's team won silver in 2022) have been the prime reasons for India's stronghold in CWG history. In 2022, India won 61 medals, out of which 30 came from the now-removed sports.

CWG 2026: Huge blow to India! Cricket, hockey, badminton and wrestling dropped from mega event

The Los Angeles Olympics 2028 organisers are sweating hard to find a suitable venue to host the&nbsp;cricket games in the upcoming edition. Cricket is set to return to the Olympics after 128 years. The host city of the 28 Olympic Games is located in California on the West Coast of the United States, however, the cricket matches could reportedly be held on the East Coast (to align the time zone with cricket-crazy countries such as India and other South Asian nations).

Casey Wasserman, head of LA28, told Cricbuzz, "We're still working through the specifics," when asked if New York is under consideration.&nbsp;

The time difference between Los Angeles and India is a significant one. It is 12 hours and 30 minutes and, thus, this&nbsp;means a prime-time night match in LA, around 8 PM, would be broadcast across the Indian subcontinent during&nbsp;early morning (when most will be busy with their daily household and professional work). On the other hand, the time difference between New York and India is slightly less, i.e. nine and a half hours. Hence, it is being seen as a more suitable option.

The matches, which will kick off around 10:30-11:00 AM on the East Coast, such as in New York, would enable the Indian fans to watch the games around 8 PM - a similar approach was also adopted by the International Cricket Council (ICC)&nbsp;for this year's&nbsp;T20 World Cup in June (co-hosted by West Indies and the USA).&nbsp;

Apart from the time zone considerations, finding a suitable venue is another challenge as there are limited&nbsp;cricket grounds in the US, with the country not known as a cricketing powerhouse. As a result, the LA28 organisers have not yet released the cricket venues, although&nbsp;the same has been done for most other sports.

Thus, the LA28 organisers have a task ahead to conduct the cricket games as the sport's re-inclusion has already generated good buzz.

"Unlike the other new sports, cricket presents a unique venue challenge. LA28 has been vocal about how it plans to keep costs down by utilizing existing venues, but there are very few - if any - suitable cricket venues in California. Or in the rest of the country," the Sportico website&nbsp;said. "The Indian market was a critical part of cricket's pitch to join LA28."

Notably, the format and qualification process for the cricket&nbsp;games&nbsp;at the 2028 Olympics are still being finalised. It is&nbsp;expected that the top six men’s and women’s teams in the ICC T20 rankings, at a certain cutoff date, will take part in the showpiece event.

Los Angeles Olympics 2028 to host cricket matches in New York: Report

Pakistan secured a crucial victory over England, breaking their 11-match winless streak at home, thanks to Noman Ali’s exceptional eight-wicket performance. This win helped Pakistan level the series, offering a much-needed morale boost as they delivered a strong all-around performance in a closely contested match.

Pakistan Ends Home Winless Streak, Levels Series With England

Sri Lanka stormed back to level the three-match T20 series with an emphatic 73-run win over the West Indies on Tuesday, marking their largest-ever margin of victory against the Caribbean side.

The dominant performance at Dambulla was Sri Lanka's sixth-largest T20 win against any team, surpassing their previous best over West Indies -- a 57-run triumph in London in 2009.

Sri Lanka, after setting a competitive target of 163, unleashed a relentless assault from their spinners, skittling the visitors for just 89 runs in 16.1 overs.

This score marked the West Indies' lowest total against Sri Lanka in T20 internationals, and their sixth lowest ever.

The spin-dominated attack claimed nine wickets, with only three overs of pace bowled, capitalising on a worn pitch that deteriorated quickly, leaving West Indies with no foothold in the chase.

Sri Lanka's spin magic struck early, removing both openers within the first four overs.

Evin Lewis and Brandon King, who had been the architects of West Indies' explosive start in the first match with a 107-run partnership, were neutralised by Sri Lanka's bowlers.

Debutant all-rounder Dunith Wellalage made an immediate impact, dismissing King with a sharp stumping in his first over, while almost sending Lewis packing on his first ball -- though a missed review kept Lewis briefly in play.

Wellalage struck again, claiming Roston Chase at slip, as the West Indies stumbled to 17-3, and struggled to 21-3 by the end of the power play.

Wellalage's stunning debut saw him finish with figures of 3-9 in four overs.

Maheesh Theekshana, Charith Asalanka and Wanindu Hasaranga supported Wellalage's efforts with two wickets each, cementing Sri Lanka's grip on the game.

Sri Lanka's total of 162 was built on the solid foundation set by openers Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka, who combined for a 72-run stand.

Nissanka top-scored with 54 off 49 balls, peppering the boundary with nine fours and a six.

Contributions from Kusal Perera (24) and Kamindu Mendis (19) helped push the total past 160, setting up a challenging chase for the West Indies.

On the visitors' side, spinners Chase and Gudakesh Motie were economical, giving away only 37 runs in their combined eight overs, raising questions about the West Indies' decision not to include an additional spinner.

The stage is now set for a thrilling series decider on Thursday, also at Dambulla, with eighth-ranked Sri Lanka eyeing an upset series victory over the third-ranked West Indies.

The West Indies won the first match after a commanding five-wicket victory on Sunday.

The T20 series will be followed by a three-match ODI series.

SL vs WI, 2nd T20I: Sri Lanka spinners crush West Indies to draw level in three-match series

Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusinghe has been suspended on disciplinary grounds by the country's cricket board. Hathurusinghe will stay suspended for 48 hours before being terminated immediately.

The development reported by cricket news website ESPNCricinfo also mentioned that Phil Simmons will take over as Bangladesh's interim head coach till the ICC Champions Trophy next year in Feb-March.

This was Hathurusinghe's second stint with Bangladesh as head coach. He came back for his second stint in February last year and the team delivered underwhelming performances in both ODI World Cup 2023 and T20 World Cup 2024.

His second appointment was also questioned by current Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed at the time. Ahmed also mentioned that 'Hathurusinghe has two counts of misconduct.'

"First is about an assault on a player. Secondly, he took too many leaves, more than what was in his contract," said Ahmed

"There was a misconduct with a player, and misconduct as an employee. He also spent more than three months [on leave], that is also a large part of his misconduct. He informed us in a scattered way, in one or two emails, that he has to go home. It can't be for more than three months. Even as a board president, I cannot do what I want. I am guided by some rules. It is the norm. So there was a serious breach in that regard," he added.

Under Hathurusinghe, Bangladesh's best achievement was beating Pakistan 2-0 in the two-Test series away from home - it was their first win against Pakistan in Tests and the first away win in the format in 15 years.

The fairytale, however, was short-lived as they lost the India Test series soon after by the same margin of 2-0 with 3-0 in the T20Is that followed.

India skipper Rohit Sharma believes youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal has the talent to become an all-format player for the team. The comments come on the eve of the first Test against New Zealand which starts Wednesday (Oct 16) in Bengaluru.

"I am not surprised at all, because the guy has real talent. He has the game to succeed in all sorts of conditions. He’s still new to international cricket, so it’s hard to judge right now, but he’s got all the ingredients for success at this level. It’s just about how he manages himself in the next couple of years. In this brief period, he has already shown that you can bet on him to do wonders for the team," Rohit said at the pre-match conference.

"He has come through the ranks, playing a lot of domestic cricket and Under-19 cricket, and succeeded at every level. That’s why he’s playing for India now. So far, he has shown what he’s capable of, and that bodes well for our team. Being a left-hander and an aggressive batter is great for the team, and I hope he continues to perform like this," the skipper added.

Most recently, Jaiswal played against Bangladesh in the two-Test series and scored three fifties in the four innings he batted. He made his Test debut against West Indies last year and has played in 11 Tests since.

In the 20 Test innings batted, Jaiswal already has scored 1,217 runs at an average of 64 and a strike rate of 71. He also has three hundreds and seven fifties to his name with a highest of 214 not out.

Jaiswal also is the second-fastest Indian to score 1000 Test runs. He achieved the milestone in 16 innings, two more than record holder Vinod Kambli, who scored 1000 Test runs in just 14 Test innings.

India pace sensation Mayank Yadav played an impressive debut series during the 3-0 whitewash against Bangladesh in T20Is. Yadav took a wicket in each of the three matches he played, including a first-ball wicket in the third T20I as well.

Apart from him, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep have also done it for India in T20Is. Mayank took a total of four wickets in the series, with 2/32 in the last game being his best bowling figures.

The pacer had lit up the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 with his raw pace while playing for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). His dream run, however, was cut short four games into the season due to an injury.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took cognizance of the young pacer's talent and speed, and put him in the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru, to work on the fitness. The series against Bangladesh was his first competitive cricket of any kind since the injury.

The pacer has credited bowling coach Morne Morkel for his development in the last couple of years at LSG.

"It has been comfortable, hung with him for last three years. He knows me, I know him. It is easy for me to work with him. He knows what things are better for me and where I need to work," Mayank said about his equation with Morkel in a video shared by the BCCI after the first T20I.

Yadav also created history on debut as he bowled his first over a maiden - becoming only the third Indian bowler ever to to do so.

India pace sensation Mayank Yadav played an impressive debut series during the 3-0 whitewash against Bangladesh in T20Is. Yadav took a wicket in each of the three matches he played, including a first-ball wicket in the third T20I as well.

Former cricketer Aakash Chopra has praised India all-rounder Hardik Pandya for his performance in the recently-concluded 3-0 series win against Bangladesh. Pandya was named Player-of-the-Series for his 118 runs and a wicket across three matches.

"Hardik Pandya was the Player of the Series. He has seen the lows of lows in his personal and professional life, getting booed - everything has happened. His batting in all three matches, he has played few balls but always with a strike rate above 200. I thought he was absolutely sensational,” said Chopra while speaking on his YouTube channel.

“His swag is different. It was like hooliganism. He hit a six over cover and a no-look one-handed six on the leg side... He is batting differently. It was almost like insulting the bowlers, as though they don’t have any status at all,” he added.

Pandya started the series with a blistering 16-ball 39 in the first T20I, which also included a no-look upper cut off a pacer. In the third T20I, Pandya smashed an 18-ball 47, and one of his shots was a checked drive&nbsp;over the covers, which went for six.

Pandya scored those runs at an average of 59 and a strike rate of 222.64. Pandya, who was touted as India's next T20I skipper, has rediscovered himself since getting injured in middle of the 2023 ODI World Cup.

He made a comeback from the injury during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 as Mumbai Indians skipper for which he was booed by fans a lot.

The all-rounder, however, played an important role in India's T20 World Cup 2024 winning campaign and bowled the last over against South Africa in the final as well.

For captaincy though, he was overlooked due to his injury-prone nature as per the selectors and Suryakumar Yadav instead was handed the job after Rohit Sharma decided to retire following T20 World Cup final.

Ireland went past South Africa by 10 runs, in a thrilling contest in the second and final T20I, at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, on Sunday (Sep 30) to earn their maiden win over the African nation in the shortest format. In reply, SA started off on a positive note as well with Reeza Hendricks scoring another half-century (51) in the series whereas Matthew Breetzke (51) also chipped in to keep the scoreboard ticking. The Adair brothers, Ross and Mark, starred for the Irish camp as they helped their side close the series at 1-1 stalemate. SA won the series opener by eight wickets at the same venue on Friday (Sep 27). On Sunday, Ross' 58-ball 100, laced with 5 fours and 9 sixes, and skipper Paul Stirling's 52 starred for Ireland after they were put into bat. The opening duo laid the foundation for Ireland to post a big total of 195-6; their highest ever versus the Proteas. In reply, SA started off on a positive note as well with Reeza Hendricks scoring another half-century (51) in the series whereas Matthew Breetzke (51) also chipped in to keep the scoreboard ticking. However, the Proteas found it tough to keep up with the required run rate with no one from their middle and lower order touching the double-digit mark. He removed Wiaan Mulder and Breetzke in successive deliveries before dismissing Nqabayomzi Peter later in the over to finish with impressive match figures of 4 for 31. Graham Hume bowled an excellent final over, conceding just seven runs, as SA were restricted to 185 for 9, falling short by ten runs. This marked Ireland's second overall victory against South Africa in internationals, with their first coming in an ODI. The two sides will now lock horns in a three-match ODI series, starting on Wednesday (Oct 2) in Abu Dhabi.

India will soon travel to Australia for a five-match Test series, i.e. the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, starting on Nov 22 in Perth. The series promises to showcase a fierce contest between the bat and ball. The personal cricketing battles, like Pat Cummins versus Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli against Josh Hazlewood, Kohli versus Smith, Rishabh Pant&nbsp;against Nathan Lyon, Jasprit Bumrah&nbsp;versus Smith, Mohammed Shami&nbsp;against Travis Head, etc. are keenly awaited. Talking about Lyon&nbsp;versus Pant, the veteran Aussie spinner revealed his game plan against the swashbuckling left-hander, who made a stunning return to red-ball format with his sixth ton during India's first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai last week.

Lyon told Star Sports in the lead-up to the series, "You're playing, bowling against someone like Rishabh Pant, who is electric. He's got all the skill in the world. As a bowler, your room for error is so small. So you've got to be good. It's a challenge as a bowler if I'm going to get hit for six. I'm not afraid about getting hit for six. The challenge is that I can provide the batters and try and keep someone like Rishabh in his crease and potentially try and get him to defend me a lot more and hopefully bring a couple of chances along the way."

Interestingly, Lyon has the wood over Pant. The wily off-spinner has dismissed the southpaw on seven occasions. On the other hand, the 25-year-old Pant has&nbsp;624 runs at an average of 62.40 with two fifties and a hundred in Australian conditions. Thus, it sets up a beautiful contest between Pant and the 36-year-old offie.

Pant was part of India's two historic Test series triumphs in Australia, in 2018/19 and 2020/21. With him back in Tests, during the ongoing home series versus Bangladesh, the keeper-batter will already have one eye on the Australia series as Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. aim for three successive Test series win Down Under.

Sri Lanka beat New Zealand by 63 runs in the first Test at the Galle International Stadium, Galle on Monday (Sep 23). With this, the Lankans took a 1-0 lead and will aim for a series whitewash in the second and final Test, which gets underway at the same venue on Thursday (Sep 26). Talking about the first Test,&nbsp;it was a hard-fought contest in Galle. Sri Lanka opted to bat first and were in a tricky position at 106-4 before in-form batter Kamindu Mendis, at No. 5, scored a brilliant 114&nbsp;as the hosts folded for 305. For Tim Southee &amp; Co, pacer O'Rourke ended with 5 for 55. In response, the Black Caps were 269 for 4 and were set to take a mammoth lead. However, they only managed 340, taking a slender 35-run lead with Prabath Jayasuriya (4 for 136) and Ramesh Mendis (3 for 101) shining with the ball.

In the second innings, SL got dismissed for 309, setting up a challenging 275-run target for the Kiwis. The senior batters of SL stood tall in their second essay, with&nbsp;Dimuth Karunaratne (83), Dinesh Chandimal (63), Angelo Mathews (50), and skipper Dhananjaya de Silva (40) taking the onus. During the run-chase, NZ young sensation Rachin Ravindra (92) stood tall but didn't get much support as Player-of-the-Match claimed&nbsp;5 for 68 and returned with match figures of 9 for 204.

De Silva-led Sri Lanka have, thus, moved to the third spot in the WTC points table. While India and Australia remain the top-two sides, respectively, and are firm favourites for the final, the Lankans also have a chance to reach the ongoing cycle's summit clash – to be held at the Lord's Cricket Stadium, London in mid-June, 2025.

After the win in Galle, captain De Silva said, "The win in England boosted our morale, we've the ability to win Tests and the boys are delivering now. Big partnerships always help win Tests in Galle (on the partnership between Karunaratne and Chandimal in the second innings), but we can improve in both our batting and bowling. We were talking about our lower&nbsp;order batting, stats tell that we've the lowest average&nbsp;and that's something we can work on."

India head coach Gautam Gambhir lavished huge praise on bowlers such as&nbsp;R Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja for shifting the nation's focus from its long-standing obsession with batting. Ahead of the Bangladesh Test series, at home, Gambhir feels Bumrah, Ashwin, and Jadeja are&nbsp;Mohammed Shamin turning the country into a bowling-obsessed one with their performances.&nbsp;

In a pre-series press conference, Gambhir said, "You've got to give credit to (Jasprit) Bumrah, (Mohammed) Shami, (Mohammed) Siraj, (Ravichandran) Ashwin and (Ravindra) Jadeja. They're turning this nation into a bowling-obsessed one. Bumrah is the best bowler in the world. It's not just his performance. It's his hunger as well. And the best part is that he wants to play as much Test cricket as he can. It is not even a luxury. He can make a difference at any stage of the game. So yes, hopefully, he can do the same in this series and going forward as well."

Gambhir opined, "They can pick up wickets on any day, whether it's Day 1 or Day 5 of a match. They offer both attacking and defensive options. We have an attack that can take 20 wickets consistently, and those two guys will create a massive impact, especially on Indian pitches. He added, "We may not have a pace-bowling all-rounder like Kapil Dev, but we have quality spin all-rounders in Ashwin and Jadeja. India's first-class structure is strong, and we may see one emerge soon. But for now, we shouldn't be too obsessed with it."

The trio of Ashwin, Jadeja and Bumrah are part of India's squad for the first Test versus Bangladesh, which gets underway on September&nbsp;19 (Thursday) in Chennai. Meanwhile, Shami – who was last seen on the cricket field during the 2023 ODI World Cup where he ended with most wickets (24) – is on the road to recovery following his ankle injury.

India batter Virat Kohli will have a chance to join an elite list in the upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh. The first Test starts September 19 and Kohli is 152 runs short of becoming only fourth Indian batter to score 9000 or more Test runs.

If Virat, who has 8,848 runs in 113 Test so far, score those 152 runs then he'll join Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sunil Gavaskar with 9000&nbsp;or more Test runs for India.

Tendulkar, at 15,921, has the most Test runs for India with Dravid behind him at 13,265 runs and Gavaskar at third place with 10,122 Test runs.

Virat will also have the chance to score his 30th Test ton and join the above three as only Indian players to score 30 or more Test hundreds. As of now, Virat has 29 Test tons and 30 Test fifties.

Virat's form this year is a cause of concerns with the batter scoring just 296 runs 15 innings of 14 matches across formats at an average of 19.73.

The star batter, however, has scored 369 runs at an average 61.50 in four Tests he has played so far in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle 2023/25.

India have a bumper Test season coming up with Rohit Sharma-led side set to host New Zealand after the two Tests against Bangladesh.&nbsp;

India then travel to Australia for the highly-anticipated five-Test Border-Gavaskar series in November where they aim to win a Test series for the third consecutive time.

India last lost to Australia in a Test series in 2014, which was played in Australia. Since then, India have won all four series played between the two countries, two in India and two in Australia.

Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim opened up on Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) decision to reappoint Babar Azam as the white-ball captain ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup, held in West Indies and the USA. Babar had stepped down as Pakistan's all-format captain soon after the Asian giant's miserable run in the 2023 ODI World Cup&nbsp;in India.

Shaheen Afridi was then named the T20I captain, whereas Shan Masood took over in Tests. After just one series as captain, Shaheen was removed -- following a 4-1 series loss to hosts New Zealand -- and&nbsp;Babar was reappointed as the white-ball skipper&nbsp;by PCB, a decision that surprised many. Under Babar, Pakistan fell apart in the T20 World Cup, losing to USA and India and failing to make it to the Super 8.

Imad has now opened up on Babar's reappointment and admitted that the call 'surprised' him as well.&nbsp;“Yes, I was surprised. What can I say, it’s ultimately the selector’s call. Whatever they thought was the best option, they picked and they picked the team [accordingly],” said all-rounder Imad Wasim on Babar’s re-appointment as captain to a local sports platform. “Everybody in Pakistan was surprised, not just me. So, I can’t say no that I was not surprised,” he stated.

We haven’t tried that but the thing is you have to try that, you have to get rid of the fear of failure. In everything – batting, bowling, fielding, you have to get rid of fear of failure."

The one-off Test between Afghanistan and New Zealand was washed out on Friday after five days of rain, just the eighth Test in history to be abandoned without a ball being bowled. Afghanistan's adopted home ground at Greater Noida, on New Delhi's outskirts, has been hit by persistent rain, forcing officials to call the match off without even staging the toss. However, there were also question marks about the venue, which was hosting its first-ever Test and has only basic drainage and facilities.

Despite some sunshine on day one and two, the outfield remained soaked. Afghanistan are unable to host international matches because of the security situation at home.&nbsp; The last time an entire Test match was washed out was in December 1998, when New Zealand hosted India in Dunedin. An abandoned 1970 Test match between Australia and England in Melbourne gave birth to one-day international cricket.

The two teams in that contest decided to play a 40-over contest on the originally scheduled fifth day once the weather had relented, and it was later officially recognised as the first-ever ODI.&nbsp;

Unusual methods were used to dry the ground this week at Greater Noida with electric fans used on wet patches that were also dug up and replaced with new mud and grass. The tactics proved futile as unrelenting rain on day three, four and five pelted the ground, which was left with covers and puddles.

Afghanistan have successfully played six Twenty20 and five one-day internationals at the Greater Noida venue since 2017.&nbsp; The country's cricket board said they chose it again over other options due its proximity to the Delhi airport.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has offered Afghanistan venues to train and host matches outside their troubled nation. Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) officials have been cautious about criticism, fearing it could spoil relations with the BCCI.

Afghanistan have participated in nine prior Tests after getting five-day status in 2017 and made a bruising introduction in 2018 when they lost their debut match to India inside two days.

They have improved in the years since, winning three Tests. Tim Southee's New Zealand, who did not complete a single training session due to the weather, will next travel to Sri Lanka for two Tests before returning for three more against India.

Unusual methods were used to dry the ground this week at Greater Noida with electric fans used on wet patches that were also dug up and replaced with new mud and grass. The tactics proved futile as unrelenting rain on day three, four and five pelted the ground, which was left with covers and puddles. Afghanistan have successfully played six Twenty20 and five one-day internationals at the Greater Noida venue since 2017. The country's cricket board said they chose it again over other options due its proximity to the Delhi airport. Also read: Afghanistan's Rashid Khan to return from injury for South Africa ODI series The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has offered Afghanistan venues to train and host matches outside their troubled nation. On Wednesday (Sep 11), Australia beat England by 28 runs in the three-match T20I series opener at The Rose Bowl, Southampton. Riding on Travis Head's quickfire&nbsp;23-ball 59, Sean Abbott's 3 for 28 and two wickets each for Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa, the Aussies defeated the Jos Buttler-less England&nbsp;by 28 runs after posting 179&nbsp;and dismissing the hosts for 151, with four balls to spare.

During the clash, Australia openers Head and Matthew Short (26-ball 41) started off confidently, with the former going berserk from the word go. While he fell inside the powerplay, on the last ball of the sixth over, Head made the scoreboard moving at a rapid pace with his inning laced with&nbsp;8 fours and 4 sixes, (striking at a whopping 256.62).

In the fifth over, stand-in captain Phil Salt introduced Sam Curran into the attack but the move fell flat as Head smashed him for 30 runs, including three 4s and equal number of 6s.&nbsp;

Former head coach Rahul Dravid believes that the reason behind India's dominance in world cricket is 'talent coming from every corner of the country.' Dravid made the comments on sidelines of the 50-year-celebration of a cricket club.

"If you look at Indian cricket today, Indian cricket is extremely strong, it's extremely powerful," Dravid said the Mount Joy Cricket Club function as reported by the news agency PTI.&nbsp;

"One of the big reasons for that is that talent comes from everywhere, from all over the country. If you go back to the time of, say, GR Vishwanath or even when I was starting out, most of the talent came from the big cities or a few states."

"Even if there were talented boys in smaller places, they had to come to the big cities to play cricket. But today I think you see in Indian cricket that boys are coming from everywhere," he added.

Dravid also cited the example of India's premier domestic tournament, the Ranji Trophy, where all the teams are now competitive.

"You just look at the standard of the Ranji Trophy. In the old days when you played in the South Zone, other than playing Hyderabad or Tamil Nadu, I think it is fair to say, without being disrespectful, that a lot of other teams you could take it not for granted but you could certainly take it a little bit more lightly."

"I don't think there is any team in the South Zone today that you can walk in and say you will beat comfortably," said Dravid.

The former coach recently joined Indian premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals in head coach position. Before that, he worked with the India men's senior team for nearly three years and ended the 11-year ICC trophy drought with T20 World Cup 2024 victory.

'Boys in smaller places,' Former coach Rahul Dravid reveals reason behind India's dominance

A small Italian town has banned cricket. Reason? The mayor believes that it is putting the cultural essence of Monfalcone in danger, a BBC report says. Monfalcone is home to just over 30,000 people and one-third of them are foreigners, the majority of them being Bangladeshi Muslims. They reached the town in the 1990s to build giant cruise ships.

If you are caught playing cricket in the town, you can be fined up to €100 ($111).

Mayor Anna Maria Cisint says that she needs to "protect" her town and Christian values. Notably, a strong anti-immigration sentiment helped her come back to power.

“Our history is being erased. It’s like it doesn’t matter anymore. Everything is changing for the worse," Cisint told BBC.&nbsp;

The mayor is known for having anti-Muslim sentiments.&nbsp;She has removed the benches in the town square which were used by Bangladeshis to sit. She has also spoken out against the attire worn by Muslim women at the beach. Cisint has also received death threats for her views.

<h2>But why ban cricket?</h2>

She contends that the balls are dangerous and can cause injury. Besides, the mayor adds, there is no place or money to build a pitch.&nbsp;

She told the publication that she is not ready to allow Bangladeshis the right to play their national sport. Cisint further contends that they offer “nothing in return”.

“They’ve given nothing to this city, to our community. Zero. They are free to go and play cricket anywhere else… outside of Monfalcone.”

People from the South Asian country here build ships at the Fincantieri shipyard – the biggest in Europe. The mayor accuses the company of paying much lower wages than the market level, mostly to foreign workers, since Italians would never do the same work for that kind of salary.

However, director of the shipyard, Cristiano Bazzarra, told BBC that salaries and contractors are as per the Italian law. He adds that it is hard to find people in Europe to work at shipyards.

Other measures taken by Anna Maria Cisint against the Muslims in the town have caused an uproar. She believes that the Bangladeshi Muslim community's way of life is “incompatible” with the life of native-born Italians.&nbsp;

Citing urban planning regulations, she in effect banned collective prayers at the two Islamic centres. She says there are "bikes on pavements, loud prayers five times a day, sometimes even at night", with 1,900 people packed in just one building during these prayers. She says this is unfair to local residents.

"The mayor thinks that Bengalis are trying to Islamify Italy - but we are just minding our own business,” 19-year-old Meheli, originally from Dhaka but brought up in Italy, told BBC.

Another Bangladeshi, Miah Bappy, says that if their community went back to Bangladesh, “it would take the shipyard five years to build a single ship”.

Cricket is banned in this small Italian town. Here's why

On Wednesday (Aug 28), West Indies pacer Shannon Gabriel announced his international retirement. Having debuted in 2012, Gabriel was an integral part of West Indies' Test line-up and played his last game&nbsp;versus India during the two-match home series in 2023. Gabriel retires from the international level having represented West Indies in 59 Tests, 25 ODIs and 2 T20Is. He accounted for 166, 33 and 3 scalps in Tests, ODIs and T20Is, respectively. The speedster was known to hit the deck hard and extract seam movement off the surface.&nbsp;

<h2>END TO A 12-YEAR-LONG INTERNATIONAL CAREER</h2>

In a lengthy post on Instagram, Gabriel wrote, "During the past 12 years, I have dedicated myself to playing international cricket for the West Indies. Playing this beloved game at the highest level has brought me immense joy, but as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end."

"I would like to express my gratitude to God for the numerous blessings and the opportunities my family and I have received during my time playing for the West Indies," Gabriel further mentioned.

The 36-year-old further added, "Secondly, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Cricket West Indies administrators, coaches, and staff members. Words cannot adequately convey the appreciation I have for your hard work and support over the years. Last but not least, I am grateful to my teammates and all those who have stood by me and supported me along the way. You have made my journey to the top truly special."

On Wednesday (Aug 28), West Indies pacer Shannon Gabriel announced his international retirement. Having debuted in 2012, Gabriel was an integral part of West Indies' Test line-up and played his last game versus India during the two-match home series in 2023. Gabriel retires from the international level having represented West Indies in 59 Tests, 25 ODIs and 2 T20Is. He accounted for 166, 33 and 3 scalps in Tests, ODIs and T20Is, respectively. The speedster was known to hit the deck hard and extract seam movement off the surface. END TO A 12-YEAR-LONG INTERNATIONAL CAREER In a lengthy post on Instagram, Gabriel wrote, "During the past 12 years, I have dedicated myself to playing international cricket for the West Indies. Playing this beloved game at the highest level has brought me immense joy, but as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end." "I would like to express my gratitude to God for the numerous blessings and the opportunities my family and I have received during my time playing for the West Indies," Gabriel further mentioned. You have made my journey to the top truly special." Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi has broken his silence on Pakistan's historic 10-wicket loss against Bangladesh at home in the first Rawalpindi Test. This is the first time Pakistan have lost by 10 wickets in a Test at home. It was also Bangladesh's first red-ball victory over Pakistan.

"I will fix the issues in Pakistan cricket, God willing. And changes are on the way," Naqvi said while talking to media.

It is to be noted that Naqvi had promised the same in the aftermath of recently-concluded T20 World Cup where they lost to host USA - a minnow team.&nbsp;

"Initially, I believed a minor surgery would suffice, but after this poor performance, it's clear that a major overhaul is needed. The nation will soon witness substantial changes,” Naqvi had said.&nbsp;

There, however, have been no changes so far, as the regular players are still very much part of the set-up, with most of them playing the first Test against Bangladesh as well.

Many of the former Pakistan players have criticised the PCB for failing to provide supportive pitch to the bowlers, especially after Pakistan opted for an all-pace attack - a rarity in the subcontinent.

Pakistan lost the Test by 10 wickets on day 5 after being bowled out for 146 in their second innings with most of their wickets falling to Bangladesh spinners.

In addition of that, the home team has also been fined for slow over rate as well. Pakistan were found six overs short, while Bangladesh were three overs short. The home team was fined 30 per cent match fee along with six WTC points.

The fines and point-deduction were in accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.&nbsp;

BCCI recently announced four squads for the upcoming Duleep Trophy. The forthcoming domestic tournament will feature KL Rahul,&nbsp;Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, etc., however, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah have not been included. While Bumrah's omission is justified as the selectors want the pacer to manage his workload, many have questioned Kohli and Rohit's absence, given there is a long red-ball season that awaits India with the Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Australia series.

Thus, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar isn't impressed. The veteran explained how it is essential for batters to play even during international breaks and a prolonged gap can dent them, especially in the 'mid-thirties'.

In his column for Mid-Day, Gavaskar wrote, "The selectors have not picked the skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the Duleep Trophy so they will most likely go into the Bangladesh Test series without much match practice."

When there’s a longish gap then the muscle memory weakens somewhat and to get back to the high standards from earlier is not easy."

Earlier, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah justified Rohit and Kohli's absence and stated&nbsp;that they don’t want them to pick up injuries while playing domestic cricket.

He told TOI,&nbsp;"It doesn’t make sense to add to Virat and Rohit’s load by asking them to play domestic cricket. They run the risk of getting injured."

Cassell was not even named in the original squad of Scotland and was named as a replacement for Chris Sole on July 15.

Scotland captain Richie Berrington was full of praise for Cassell while presenting him with his cap ahead of the match.

"You've come back from a huge setback, with that massive injury you had, put you out for a year and a bit. Just to see your resilience coming back, getting back on the park, and just love watching what you do at Forfs [Forfashire], and just the way how you hold yourself is incredible," he said.

Thanks to Cassell, Oman were bowled out for a paltry 91 runs before Scotland chased the target in 17.2 overs for the loss of two wickets.

The pacer came on to bowl in the 12th over of the match and took wickets off the first two deliveries he bowled. He, however, missed the hattrick but took a wicket on the fourth ball of the over.&nbsp;

He completed his first over in ODIs as maiden with three wickets dismissing Zeeshan Maqsood, Ayaan Khan and Khalid Kail.

In his second over, he took one more wicket in Shoaib Khan as his figures read 1.3-1-0-4. For his fifth wicket, Cassell dismissed Mehran Khan and sent back PS Athavale for the record-equalling sixth wicket. He dismissed Bilal Khan for his final wicket.&nbsp;
