On Tuesday, the company reported a loss of $182 million in the fourth quarter, on weaker sales than expected at $357 million. For now, the company is gearing up for a fall vaccination campaign and said it plans to focus on delivering an updated Covid-19 vaccine.

Maryland-based&nbsp;Novavax&nbsp;was an early frontrunner in the global vaccine race, but fell behind after being hit by manufacturing and regulatory delays.

The company faced delays in regulatory submissions for its jab, which was authorised in July last year in the United States.

Prior to that, the United States was one of a few major markets where it had yet to receive authorisation after getting the green light from the European Union, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.

In a statement, the British drug giant said that "AstraZeneca's Covid-19 vaccine, Vaxzevria, has been granted approval in the EU by the EMA as a third dose booster in adults."

The EMA had concluded there was a "substantial body of evidence demonstrating an increased immune response after a third dose booster with Vaxzevria", it added.

In the United Kingdom, and several Asian, and Latin American nations, the AstraZeneca vaccine already had authorisation as a homologous booster i.e., patients who were already inoculated with it could be given a booster dose of the vaccination.

As per the company, worldwide this vaccine has helped prevent 50 million Covid cases, and 5 million hospitalisations and saved more than one million lives.

Despite a 40 per cent drop in Europe, where the pandemic has been halted by vaccinations, Vaxzevria sales increased fourfold to $1.15 billion in the first quarter, according to the company.

However, AstraZeneca warned in April that Covid revenues, which includes that from Vaxzevria, would fall this year as the health crisis subsides.

Third dosages significantly lower a person's vulnerability to infection, forming a barrier to the virus's further transmission and dissemination. This is critical because, despite being vaccinated, an increasing number of people are becoming infected (though the risks of infection, spread and severe illness remain greatest among those who are unvaccinated). He said the boy should get vaccinated if he wants as his intentions are pure and were more important than his father’s hesitancy. The Judge also said that his father’s arguments against Covid vaccines had no scientific basis or proof.<o:p></o:p>

The sore arm does not actually happen immediately as the immune response has not yet happened, and not everyone gets it either," Beate Kampmann, professor of paediatric infection and immunity and director of the Vaccine Centre at the London School of Hygiene &amp; Tropical Medicine told Guardian.
