<p>Beijing's National Health Commission (NHC) pledged to "accelerate the increase in the vaccination rate for people over the age of 80, and continue to increase the vaccination rate for people aged 60-79".</p>

<p>It also said it would "establish a special working group... to make special arrangements for the vaccination of the elderly against Covid".</p>

<p>"It is necessary to conduct popular science education on the meaning and benefits of vaccination, and fully publicise vaccines' efficacy on preventing severe illness and death," it added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>China's older population has low rate of vaccination. The general, relatively lower vaccination rate has been seen as prolonging Covid pandemic in China, the only major economy yet to be rid of the illness.</p>

According to a new study, the blood-thinning drug Apixaban puts patients at risk for no clear benefit. The drug has been used as a potential life-saver for those recovering from severe COVID-19. But the research suggests that it does not work and can cause major bleeding. Molly Gambhir brings you the details.

<p>A blood thinning drug, widely administered to Covid patients who have been discharged from hospital has been found by a study to be not working and having serious side-effects. The research has reportedly shown that Apixaban, the drug in question, can cause severe bleeding. The anticoagulant is often called to be 'life saving for the patients.</p>

<p>However, Heal Covid trial, UK government funded initiative has found that this may not be the case.</p>

<p>“These first findings from Heal-Covid show us that a blood-thinning drug, commonly thought to be a useful intervention in the post-hospital phase, is actually ineffective at stopping people dying or being readmitted to hospital," said Professor Charlotte Summers, chief investigator of the trial. She was quoted by The Guardian.</p>

<p>“This finding is important because it will prevent unnecessary harm occurring to people for no benefit,” Summers added. She is intensive care doctor at Addenbrooke's hospital in Cambridge, UK.</p>

<p>&nbsp;“This trial is the first robust evidence that longer anticoagulation after acute Covid-19 puts patients at risk for no clear benefit," said Dr Mark Toshner, the co-chief investigator of the study.</p>

<p>“Our hope is that these results will stop this drug being needlessly prescribed to patients with Covid-19 and we can change medical practice,” he added.</p>

<p>The trial was run by experts at Addenbrooke's and Cambridge University. 402 volunteers were given the drug. Several of them suffered severe bleeding and had to discontinue the drug. The trail also found that administering Apixaban did not significant lower likelihood of recovered patients getting admitted to hospital.</p>

As China eases 'Zero-COVID' rules, close to 12,000 cases of new infection reported

China’s capital Beijing reported 32 symptomatic new locally transmitted Covid-19 infections and 48 asymptomatic cases for November 8. This compared with 31 symptomatic and 33 asymptomatic cases the day before.

<p>Constant COVID-19 testing has become a norm in China as the government continues to move forward with their plan to completely eradicate the pandemic. While the citizens are regularly tested, artist Siyuan Zhuji has found a unique way to documents the process of Covid tests.</p>

<p>Siyuan, who hails from Nanjing, placed a micro camera inside his mouth and continued to film his Covid tests. It provided a different look into the process and also at the people conducting the tests.</p>

<p>Siyuan is known for his unconventional art projects and this one has caught the attention of a number of people due to the approach and technique used by him.</p>
