He was given a single cell due to "higher safety and security risk" according to the Singapore Prison Service, and like other prisoners, he is allowed family visits and email.&nbsp; 
Each month he can have two family visits - one in person and one via video - and send up to four emails.

“All inmates are provided with the necessities for daily living – toothbrush, toothpaste, clothing, slippers, towel, and plastic spoon for meals,” the prison service was quoted as saying by Channel News Asia.

As part of a rare, wide-ranging corruption trial that netted several top figures, Iswaran, a civil servant-turned politician, pleaded guilty to accepting gifts worth Singapore dollars 403,330 over seven years.

The gifts even included petty items like tickets to events, as well as alcohol and a bicycle presented to him for his 60th birthday. The tickets were for musical events, Formula 1 races and football matches.

Ahead of starting his jail term, Iswaran, who entered politics in 1997, apologised to family and country.

He said in a statement: "Serving my constituents and Singaporeans over the past three decades has been the greatest honour of my life. As this chapter of my life comes to a close, my family and I look to the future with gratitude and renewed hope."

The city-state’s anti-graft agency has alleged that the minister obtained kickbacks valued at $286,181 (S$384,340.98) from property tycoon Ong Beng Seng, partly to advance the billionaire’s business interests.&nbsp;

Iswaran, 61, allegedly received gifts worth more than $119,136 in the form of flights, hotel stays and tickets to the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix.&nbsp;

The charge sheet against the now-former minister also purportedly shows favours like tickets to football matches, West End musicals, and flights on Ong’s private plane. Both Iswaran and Ong were arrested last year.&nbsp;

Notably, Iswaran was an advisor to the Grand Prix’s steering committee, while Ong owns the rights to the race. It is also said that the property tycoon played a significant role in bringing the F1 race to Singapore in 2008.

Iswaran, a veteran of the ruling People’s Action Party (PAP), who has held multiple portfolios over the years, submitted his resignation from the government, parliament and ruling party, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong revealed shortly after Thursday’s hearing&nbsp;

Iswaran quit on January 16 after being given formal notice of the charges against him.&nbsp;

“I reject the allegations in the charges and will now focus on clearing my name,” Iswaran wrote in his resignation letter&nbsp;published on the website of the PM’s office.&nbsp;

The announcement late Wednesday (Nov 22) is being viewed as a setback for one of Indonesia’s most respected agencies, in a country where corruption continues to be rampant.&nbsp;

<h2>What do we know about the case?</h2>

Firli Bahuri, chief of the Corruption Eradication Commission, is the latest official in President Joko Widodo’s administration to face graft allegations and has been named by the police to face what they called a “corruption case in the form of extortion.”

This is also the first time that the anti-corruption body chief has been accused of the crime since it was formed in 2002 after the fall of dictator Suharto.&nbsp;

Bahuri, according to the police, is a suspect in the alleged case involving extortion and receiving gifts or gratuities in legal dealings with the agriculture ministry between 2020 and 2023.

Ade Safri Simanjuntak, Jakarta police’s director for special crime, told reporters they have “sufficient evidence to name...the KPK chief as a suspect in a corruption case in the form of extortion,” referring to the Indonesian initials of the corruption commission.

Bahuri would be questioned, “as the KPK chief in his capacity as a suspect in alleged corruption crime,” he added.&nbsp;

The officials have confiscated foreign currency transaction documents from Singapore, and $477,730 (7.4 billion rupiah) after raids conducted on two locations and interviewing more than 90 people, according to the Jakarta police official.&nbsp;

If found guilty of graft charges, the KPK chief could face life in prison as a corruption conviction for state officials carries a maximum sentence. In a post on their website, Indonesia’s police said that Firli is suspected of extorting money from Syahrul Yasin Limpo.&nbsp;

Limpo, the former agriculture minister was detained last month following a series of accusations which also included alleged stealing of over $800,000 in public funds. The allegations against Bahuri are said to be linked to Limpo’s case.&nbsp;

Spanish football and the RFEF in particular are going through a moment of reckoning amid allegations of sexual abuse against former RFEF chief Luis Rubiales.

Rubiales kissed World Cup winner Jenni Hermoso on the lips on August&nbsp;20, setting off a furore that largely overshadowed both the women's team triumph in Sydney and the refereeing scandal. Rubiales has since quit.

In March, prosecutors filed a complaint over alleged payments of more than 7.3 million euros ($7.8 million) over 17 years to firms owned by Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, who was vice-president of the RFEF's refereeing committee from 1993 to 2018.

Reuters has been unable to reach Negreira. RFEF and Barcelona were not immediately available for comments.

Barcelona has denied any wrongdoing, saying in a statement in February it had paid an external consultant who supplied it with "technical reports related to professional refereeing", which it said was a common practice among professional football clubs.

Barcelona's arch-rivals Real Madrid had joined the prosecution in the lawsuit as a damaged party.

According to judge Aguirre, Negreira was responsible for ranking and evaluating the referees. However, no evidence has been found so far of Negreira paying referees to influence match results, Aguirre said in early September.

FC Barcelona under investigation for suspected corruption in refereeing case

A lookout notice was issued by Indian authorities against absconding former finance minister of Punjab and BJP leader Manpreet Singh Badal in a corruption case on Tuesday (Sept 26).

The notice was issued a day after the Punjab Vigilance Bureau found irregularities in the purchase of a property in Bathinda, following which a case was registered against Badal and five others on Monday.

Officials believe that Badal may flee the country to evade arrest, and have therefore put all airports on alert.

Meanwhile, a local court is scheduled to hear an anticipatory bail hearing of Badal on Tuesday.

Apart from Badal, former Bathinda Development Authority (BDA) chief administrator Bikramjit Shergill was also named in the case. The other four booked in the case were identified as Rajiv Kumar, Amandeep Singh, Vikas Arora and Pankaj.

<h2>On the hunt for Badal</h2>

The development follows an investigation launched by the vigilance bureau based on former MLA Sarup Chand Singla's complaint in 2021 alleging irregularities in the purchase of property at a prime location in Bathinda.

Singla, who was earlier with the Shiromani Akali Dal, had claimed that Badal, as a minister in the previous Congress government, used his position to convert two commercial plots into a residential plot for himself.

Badal had joined the BJP after quitting the Congress in January this year.

The case was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including sections 420 (cheating) and 468 (forgery), and also under the Prevention of Corruption Act

On Monday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched a tirade against Badal, saying those who used to boast about honesty are now running from pillar to post to save their skin.

"There is a huge difference between speaking the truth and standing by it," the chief minister said.

“These leaders earlier used to say that they would wait for whatever action is taken against them, but are now seeking legal protection against arrest,” he added.

The notice was issued a day after the Punjab Vigilance Bureau found irregularities in the purchase of a property in Bathinda, following which a case was registered against Badal and five others on Monday. Officials believe that Badal may flee the country to evade arrest, and have therefore put all airports on alert. Meanwhile, a local court is scheduled to hear an anticipatory bail hearing of Badal on Tuesday. Apart from Badal, former Bathinda Development Authority (BDA) chief administrator Bikramjit Shergill was also named in the case. The other four booked in the case were identified as Rajiv Kumar, Amandeep Singh, Vikas Arora and Pankaj. On the hunt for Badal The development follows an investigation launched by the vigilance bureau based on former MLA Sarup Chand Singla's complaint in 2021 alleging irregularities in the purchase of property at a prime location in Bathinda. Singla, who was earlier with the Shiromani Akali Dal, had claimed that Badal, as a minister in the previous Congress government, used his position to convert two commercial plots into a residential plot for himself. Badal had joined the BJP after quitting the Congress in January this year. The case was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including sections 420 (cheating) and 468 (forgery), and also under the Prevention of Corruption Act On Monday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched a tirade against Badal, saying those who used to boast about honesty are now running from pillar to post to save their skin. "There is a huge difference between speaking the truth and standing by it," the chief minister said. “These leaders earlier used to say that they would wait for whatever action is taken against them, but are now seeking legal protection against arrest,” he added. On Saturday (September 9), Naidu was arrested by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Nandyala.

"CID has taken Chandrababu for a medical check-up after high blood pressure and diabetes were detected. We are approaching the High Court for bail," news agency ANI quoted Naidu's counsel as saying.

In a notice, the CID said that Naidu was arrested under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Stating that the offence was non-bailable, the CID said that Naidu could be released on bail, and he might have to seek bail through a court.&nbsp;

The officials have claimed that the alleged fraud has caused a huge loss in excess of Rs 300 crore&nbsp;to the state government.

On Wednesday, Naidu had claimed that he could be attacked or arrested soon. "Today or tomorrow they could arrest me. They may even attack me. Not one, they will do many atrocities," Naidu said during a public event in &nbsp;Anantapur district.&nbsp;

Munir’s body was found hanging from the ceiling of his apartment located in Islamabad’s posh and highly secured Diplomatic&nbsp; Enclave, police officials told WION.

Asad Munir, &nbsp;former Member Estate Capital Development Authority (CDA), also served as the director for Peshawar region for an intelligence agency.&nbsp;

Family sources said Munir was deeply upset after reports that the National Accountability &nbsp;Bureau (NAB) was filing a reference against him over the restoration of a plot in F-11 area of Pakistan’s federal capital.

The family has requested the police not to conduct postmortem examination of the body.

Munir has also left a note before committing suicide in which he complained against the treatment meted out to him by the investigators.

In the note that was allegedly found near Munir’s body, which is addressed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan , the deceased said he was giving up his life in the hope that the chief justice would bring positive changes in the system where incompetent people are playing with the life and honour of citizen in the name of accountability. However, the authenticity of the letter could not be verified.

In October last year, the Central District Court in Seoul had found Lee Myung-bak, who served as president between 2008 and 2013, guilty of bribery and embezzlement, among other charges, and had sentenced him to 15 years in jail and a fine of 13 billion won ($11.5 million).

Lee, 77, who has been in prison since March 22 last year, had appealed the decision.

The Seoul High Court has now approved Lee's bail petition made on January 29 on grounds of his deteriorating health, among other reasons.

The court set 1 billion won ($886,130) as the bail amount and ordered him to stay only at his registered residence and limit his contacts to his immediate family members and legal representatives, conditions that Lee accepted.

The former president will also need judicial approval for his visits to the hospital and will have to present a record of his daily activities.

In October, the Central District Court had ruled that there was evidence that Lee was the de facto owner of auto parts manufacturer DAS, which is headed by his brother and has been the focus of several of the charges against him.

It found him guilty of abusing his presidential powers to embezzle funds for personal and political gains.

A three-judge bench had ruled that misappropriation of 24 billion won was proved in court, while also finding Lee guilty of accepting $5.85 million from Samsung to pardon the prison term faced by the conglomerate's head, Lee Kun-hee, for tax fraud.

Lee claims his trial is a case of political retaliation by the government, led by current president Moon Jae-in, who was a close friend of the late president and Lee's predecessor Roh Moo-hyun, who committed suicide in 2009 while under investigation for corruption.

Lee became the fourth former president of the country to be sentenced to prison, after Chun Doo-hwan, who was the leader of the last military junta until 1987, Roh Tae-woo and Park Geun-hye.

Park is serving a 25-year sentence for corruption following her conviction last year.

Pakistan's Supreme Court on Sunday summoned former chief minister of the country's Punjab province Shehbaz Sharif in connection with the case pertaining to corruption in 56 public sector companies.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan ordered Shahbaz Sharif to appear before the court to clarify his position regarding appointments of Heads of these companies on hefty salaries.

A two-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar resumed hearing of a suo motu case, reported Geo TV.

"Shehbaz Sharif should appear in person and explain how government officials were hired on such high incomes," CJP Mian Saqib Nisar remarked.

The president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) then asked the top court to allow him a chance to submit his response in the case.

Earlier, the attorney general Punjab told the apex court that Shehbaz did not have any role in the companies. To this, Chief Justice Nisar remarked that no activity had taken place [in Punjab] without Shehbaz’s consent.

According to the report, the top judge is said to have observed "Not even a fly flies without his [Shehbaz] order in the province. Please ask your chief minister where he is and when he will appear before the court."

Ordering National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to estimate the wealth of chief executive officers of six companies, the court said, "Please investigate how much property these officials own, so that nation's money can be returned to it."

The NAB had initiated an inquiry into multiple charges against the 56 public limited companies last year in November.

The Pakistan Supreme Court in a landmark judgement disqualified ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif from ever holding public office.

The Pakistan SC disqualified Nawaz Sharif under the under Article 62 (1)(f).

According to Article 62(1)(f), a person holding public office should be "honest and righteous".

Sharif was earlier disqualified under the same provision by the court in the Panama Papers case.&nbsp;

Reports said the decision of the 5-judge&nbsp;bench was unanimous.

Sharif, 67, resigned in July after the Supreme Court disqualified him from holding office over an undeclared source of income, but the veteran leader maintains his grip on the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz&nbsp;(PML-N) party.

Friday's ruling addressed an ambiguity over&nbsp;Sharif's disqualification and whether he was barred from office for life or a specific period.

Zia, 72, was sentenced to five years in jail on February 8 in connection with the embezzlement of 21 million taka (about USD 250,000) in foreign donations meant for the Zia Orphanage Trust, named after her late husband Ziaur Rahman, a military ruler-turned-politician.

On March 12, the High Court here granted the chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) a four-month interim bail.

Following today&#39;s Supreme Court order, Zia cannot get released from jail till May 8, Anti-Corruption Commission&#39;s lawyer Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan was quoted as saying by the report.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party Chairperson Khaleda Zia, convicted in a corruption case, was granted bail on Monday.

BNP leader Zia secured a four-month bail in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case in which she was handed five years of imprisonment by a Bangladesh court.

&quot;Now, there is no legal bar to let Khaleda walk out of prison on bail,&quot; Bangladesh Daily Star quoted BNP Advocate Sagir Hossain Leon as saying.

Earlier today, a bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim passed the bail order in response to a petition moved by Khaleda before a high court back in February.

Her bail was considered on four grounds, including her health condition.

Further, the high court directed the concerned authority to prepare the paper book of the case within the next four months for hearing the appeal she filed against her conviction in the case.

The high court sentenced Zia&#39;s eldest son and Bangladesh Nationalist Party&#39;s (BNP) Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman and four others for at least 10 years with a fine of 2.10 crore Bangladeshi takas (Tk).

The Anti-Corruption Commission had earlier filed a case in 2008 with Ramna Police Station, accusing six persons including Khaleda and her son Tarique.

Khaleda is a two-time Bangladesh Prime Minister, having ruled from 1991-96 and again from 2001-06.

In a political career spanning almost four decades, Khaleda went to the jail several times but was never convicted. She was detained several times during the anti-Ershad movement between the 1980s and 1990s.

In March 1983, she was made vice-chairperson of BNP after her husband and former Bangladesh President Ziaur was assassinated. She went on to become the party&#39;s chairperson in 1984, a position which she holds today. May 10, 1984.
