Former Pakistan cricketer Javed Miandad has expressed his disappointment over the Indian government's decision to not allow the national side to tour Pakistan for next year's Champions Trophy, to be held in February-March. Following BCCI's withdrawal, Miandad labelled the decision as a 'joke' and feels Pakistan cricket can not only survive but 'prosper' without India.&nbsp;

"It is a joke that this is happening. Even if we don't play India at all, Pakistan cricket will not only survive but prosper as well as we have shown in the past. I would like to see how the ICC events earn money when there are no Pakistan and India matches," Miandad was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) via email about&nbsp;the decision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of&nbsp;not sending its cricket team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, scheduled to be held in Pakistan in February 2025. The ICC forwarded the communication from BCCI which says that the Government of India has not given permission to its cricket team to travel to Pakistan. On the part of the Pakistani government, top sources say that Islamabad may not allow PCB to participate in any ICC event (2024-2031) if India does not participate in the ICC Champions Trophy or the Champions Trophy can be proposed to be moved out from Pakistan.

The chances of the latter happening are dim given that there can be graver consequences for hosts Pakistan. Such a step of withdrawing from playing India would hurt both&nbsp;because the 2025 Women's World Cup, the 2026 Asia Cup and the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup are scheduled to be hosted by the latter.

“We travelled to India in 2023 despite the hostility and volatile environment, it was under the understanding that if we went to India for the World Cup, India would come to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy. Nothing was opposed then but now these excuses don’t hold ground,”&nbsp;remarked a&nbsp;PCB official. “We also sent our team to India in 2016, and had done the hybrid format of the Asia Cup to accommodate India,”&nbsp;added the official.

While the BCCI insisted on bringing in a neutral venue to host all India matches, reports from Pakistan suggest that the PCB is unwilling to agree to the hybrid model; in their response, the PCB is preparing to boycott playing India across tournaments irrespective of FTP commitments.

"I discussed this with them and my team, and our stance is clear: they need to give us in writing any objections they may have. Until now, no discussion of the hybrid model has happened, nor are we prepared to accept one. The Indian media are reporting it, but no formal communication has reached the PCB," board chairman Naqvi said on Friday.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, reputed Pakistan cricket journalist and expert Nauman Niaz took to social media (X) to inform everyone of the latest developments.&nbsp;

“If a team denies to participate, they need to have a solid reason to justify their call. Just like in 1996, the West Indies and Australia did not go to Sri Lanka but still reached the final. If you make a reason for security, then it is not a solid reason. Teams like Australia, New Zealand, England, and South Africa are coming to Pakistan," he added.

The proposal further adds the curtain-raiser clash will be hosted in Karachi between hosts Pakistan and Australia. India will kick start their campaign against Bangladesh in Lahore on 20th February while playing New Zealand on 23rd February. Former England World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan feels the Jos Buttler-led side would require the services of Test skipper Ben Stokes and red-ball specialist Joe Root for the upcoming 2025 Champions Trophy (CT). The mega event is set to be held in Pakistan early next year. Morgan, who will be seen in action in the&nbsp;International Masters League in India in Nov-Dec, feels Stokes and Root's availability will bolster England's chances to win their maiden CT title. Root hasn't been part of the ODI setup for long, having played his last game in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Stokes, on the other hand, came back from ODI retirement for last year's WC and his 50-over future remains unclear since.

Recently, Stokes stated that he hasn't received a call from England head coach Brendon McCullum about his ODI future. Morgan feels both Root and Stokes should get a call-up for CT 2025.

It is to be noted that India also didn't travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023 and its matches were instead held in Sri Lanka including the final. Pakistan, however, later on, travelled to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup.

It will be interesting for&nbsp;Pakistan to travel to India for the 2025 Asia Cup if the BCCI decides against sending a team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.

As for the budget, the ICC has approved an amount of US$70 million for the tournament including US$4.5 million for extra expenses.

"The approximate budget is around USD 70 million and only USD 4.5 million has been allocated as additional expenses," reported news agency PTI citing a source.

The amount approved for extra expenses is too little for India to play its matches outside Pakistan if they decide not to travel due to 'security constraints.'

Earlier, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that it is now up to the ICC to convince India to come to Pakistan and play.

As per a report in PTI, the topic of Champions Trophy’s schedule and format didn't even come up in the International Cricket Council (ICC)'s&nbsp;recently-held annual conference. Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Khalid Mahmood feels if BCCI denies sending Team India to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, other Asian countries like Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh could follow the same path. “There are very, very slim chances they will agree to play in Pakistan,” Mahmood said, as quoted by PTI.

“India is the richest cricket board and carries a lot of clout. If they don’t send their team to Pakistan I foresee even countries like Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh following their path. This would basically reduce the Champions Trophy into a venture where revenues will take a hit, expenses will grow and profits would fall,” he continued.
