Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has urged the Rohit Sharma-led team management to consider picking Varun Chakravarthy for the upcoming 2025 Champions Trophy.
Chakravarthy has been in roaring form since his comeback in the national side and picked up a brilliant 5 for 17 in India's narrow three-wicket loss to South Africa in the second T20I, of the four-match series, on Sunday (Nov 10),inGqeberha. Following Chakravarthy's heroics, DK shared a post on X and urged India to pick the in-form spinner for next year's ICC event.
"If India don't pick VARUN CHAKRAVARTHY for the Champions Trophy, then they are making a grave error. Outstanding Bowler he is turning out to be," Dinesh Karthik wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Chakravarthy became the fifth Indian bowler to pick a five-fer in T20Is following the Gqeberha tie, where India failed to defend 124-6. Overall, he became only the third Indian to take a five-wicket haul in South Africa. Despite his heroics, Suryakumar Yadav-led Men in Blue failed to defend a below-par score asTristan Stubbs' 47 and Gerald Coetzee's 9-ball 19* propelled Proteas to a series-levelling win. Earlier, SA bowlers combined to restrict India to 124-6 after the hosts asked India to bat first.
Since Chakravarthy's international comeback, during the home T20Is versus Bangladesh in Oct, he has had a dream run. He has claimed 13 wickets in five games so far,at an average of 8.84 and an economy of 5.75. Given the Champions Trophy is nearing, it will be interesting to see if India springs in a surprise and includes him in the squad.
