In a later development, JMM MLA from Ghatshila, Ramdas Soren took oath as a state cabinet minister earlier today replacing Champai Soren in the state cabinet.

Soren resigned from all positions and the primary membership of JMM on August 28. He became the chief minister of Jharkhand on February 2, shortly after Hemant Soren resigned as the CM before being arrested by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in a money laundering case. In less than two months, Soren had to step down to allow the return of Hemant Soren to the chair following the latter's bail in the case.

On August 27, Champai Soren announced his decision to join the BJP owing it to the welfare of tribals in the state.

"On August 18 itself, I had posted about the politics that happened with me in the party that I made with my blood and sweat. I came out alone from JMM as my intention was not to break the party. Sometimes I thought I would leave politics, then I thought that I would form a new organisation or if I find a partner, I would join them for the betterment of Jharkhand. We have got a good partner in the form of BJP," Soren said while speaking to ANI on Friday ahead of his joining. "We will fight for Jharkhand like before. I will work for the development of Jharkhand, to save the existence of tribals. We will develop Jharkhand," he added.

Hemant Soren&nbsp;had tendered his resignation from the post on January 31, ahead of his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam.

He was granted bail by&nbsp;the Jharkhand High Court last week. The court ruled that&nbsp;there was reason to believe that he was "not guilty of the offence as alleged".

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader was again elected as legislature party leader on Wednesday (Jul 3).

"A decision was taken in the meeting to replace Champai Soren with Hemant Soren," news agency PTI quoted a party source as saying.

As per reports, not everything is well in the JMM camp as the outgoing CM Champai is feeling 'insulted' by the move.&nbsp;But Champai may be offered the post of&nbsp;JMM's executive president.

<h2>Assembly elections on the horizon</h2>

Assembly elections are slated to be held in Jharkhand in November/December this year and the JMM wants to fight elections with&nbsp;Hemant Soren as its face.&nbsp;

JMM appealed for prompt action in light of the political uncertainty the state is facing as corridors of power remain&nbsp;empty for over 24 hours.&nbsp;In a letter to the Governor, Soren had reportedly written, "There is no government (in the state) for 18 hours. There is a situation of confusion. Being the constitutional head, we expect you will soon take steps for the formation of a popular government."&nbsp;

Congress party in-charge for Jharkhand Ghulam Ahmad Mir alleged that when it comes to BJP allies, the swearing-in ceremony is held within hours but in case of JMM, the ceremony has not been held despite a letter of support being submitted to the state governor.

"In the case of Nitish Kumar, he took oath just five hours after resigning. In Jharkhand's case, despite having a majority, they have not sworn in the chief minister. This raises suspicion. The governor has the ‘demand paper’. We want the governor to make a decision fast. New chief minister must be sworn in, the government must be formed," said Mir as quoted by Hindustan Times.

About Congress MLAs in the state legislative assembly, he reportedly said that they were at a safe place.
