<p>People taking a stroll at New York’s Central Park in the early morning were shocked when they saw the presence of a massive security team closely guarding a giant cube.</p>

<p>But that giant cube weighing 186 kilograms was not made of any ordinary metal. It was reportedly made from pure 24-karat gold, and it has been positioned in the middle of the park’s Naumburg Bandshell venue.</p>

<p>The main brain behind this artwork is a German artist named Niclas Castello.</p>

<p>“Never before in the history of humanity has such an enormous amount of gold been cast into a single, pure object. Gold — the eternal metal. Symbol of the sun, of light, of the good,” he said in the description of his artwork.</p>

<p>The invasive pest from Asia had arrived in the United States seven years ago and in New York City last year. After arriving, it immediately landed in the Most Wanted list of local environmentalists.</p>

<p>The creature zealously feeds on the sap of more than 70 plant species, leaving them susceptible to disease and destruction from other natural antagonists, threatening to set back the fight against climate change.</p>

<p>In Pennsylvania, the issue is taken so seriously that the state issued a Spotted lanternfly order of quarantine and treatment.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This imposes fines and even potential criminal penalties on anyone who intentionally moves the bug, at any stage of its life, from one sort of location to another via “recreational vehicles, tractors, mowers, grills” as well as “tarps, mobile homes, tile, stone, deck boards” or “fire pits.”</p>

<p>The last time the city faced a threat of this kind was approximately 15 years ago, when the Asian long-horned beetle made its incursions, having entered the country in wooden packing materials.</p>

<p>Half of the trees in New York were vulnerable to it, and the invasion resulted in huge deforestation.&nbsp;</p>

Central Park ice rinks remain open despite rift with Trump, Mayor says

<p>According to local media reports, over 1,900 flights were left grounded at the Kennedy, Newark and LaGuardia Airports after the macro-scale cyclone hit brought in heavy snowfall and thunderstorm.</p>

<p>Predictions suggested there could have been up to a foot of snow in the city and the surrounding suburbs, however, less than an inch of snow was recorded in Central Park or at Kennedy and LaGuardia airports. Some areas of New Jersey received up to 10 inches, while New Fairfield caught an 8-inch blanket of snow.</p>

<p>The macro-scale cyclone started out as rainfall and slowly turned into fast-falling snow, accompanied by lightning and thunder in a rare phenomenon known as &#39;thundersnow&#39;.</p>

<p>Although there were dozens of schools across the city that cancelled classes for the day, New York Public schools remained open.</p>

<p>The storm also left an estimated 28,000 people were without power Wednesday afternoon, as it compounded on the damage to the power lines caused by another storm last Friday.</p>
