The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has filed a complaint against the makers of Rajinikanth starrer '2.0' &nbsp;and has demanded that the censor board revokes its certification for the film.&nbsp; 
 
In a letter of complaint addressed to the censor board and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Association has alleged that director Shankar's film is promoting 'anti-scientific attitude.&nbsp;

'2.0' is based on the theme of how cellphones and radiation is not just affecting human beings but also the environment at large including birds and animals.&nbsp;

The COAI, whose members include Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea, has alleged that the promotional videos are based on the theme that electromagnetic field emissions from mobile phones and towers are harmful to living creatures and the environment, including birds and human beings.

Such a depiction would create unfounded fear and mass paranoia by spreading misinformation about the adverse impact of mobile towers and mobile phones, the grouping said in a statement.

The content of the movie is "defamatory to COAI and its members, endangers public order, presents anti-scientific attitudes, constitutes offences including under various sections of the IPC (Indian Penal Code) and is in violation of the provisions of the Cinematograph Act, 1952," it added.

The association has also requested CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) to revoke the certificate issued for the teaser, trailer, promotional videos and the film with immediate effect. &nbsp;

The complaint states that the screening of the film should be stalled until their complaint is taken into cognisance and a resolution is determined.

'2.0' hits theatres in multiple languages across the country from Thursday onwards. The futuristic sci-fi has been witnessing enormous advance booking since Tuesday- when cinema halls started advance booking for the film. In many areas in the south, where Rajini's film release days are declared as unofficial holiday, tickets have been sold out for the first two days.&nbsp;

On Wednesday, the CBFC filed an affidavit in HC, stating the board had taken strong objection to how 'Rangeela Raja' glorifies violence and objectified women through the actions of its hero. &nbsp;"He is shown as having no repentance of his actions and crimes, including rape, adultery and treating women as a commodity for his sensual pleasures," the affidavit further states.&nbsp; 
 
The CBFC also stated that the film objectifies women. The film body has demanded cuts in dialogues in which a woman is referred to as “kadak ghevar” (a bold woman) and another in which the hero, after a raping a woman, refers to the rape as “swadishth khana” (delicious food). 
 
CBFC also states that film effectively glorifies hero's misogyny. While in the climax the hero is shown to repent and apologise but in the end scene, &nbsp;he goes back to lying to his family and harassing women. 
 
The hero even goes on to say, “Yeh Raja rangeela tha, rangeela hai, aur rangeela hi rahega (this Raja was randy, is randy and will remain randy).” 
 
“In its entirety, a wrong example is portrayed to children through the film,” said the affidavit, submitted in court by advocate Advait Sethna on behalf of the CBFC. 
 
Nihalani is yet to respond to the affidavit. He has produced and written the film. During his tenure as the chairman, Nihalani was known to demand several cuts on films terming them obscene or vulgar.&nbsp;

CBFC terms Pahalaj Nihalani's hero in 'Rangeela Raja' misogynist who commits rape, adultery

Ex-CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani will know what it felt like to be on the other side of the table, now that his upcoming film has been suggested 20 cuts from the censor board. Known for his penchant for cutting film scenes and dialogues in the name of morality and Indian culture, Pahlaj is fuming at the censor board’s decision.

The film, which is based on the devastating Uttarakhand floods in 2013, features Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan in the lead. While Sara plays a Hindu girl, Sushant plays a Muslim boy who is a porter at the Kedarnath shrine.&nbsp;

According to the news reports, priests at Kedarnath shrine have raised an objection on the film as they feel it promotes 'love jihad' and hurts Hindu sentiments.&nbsp;

The term 'love jihad' is used for couples where the girl is Hindu and married to a Muslim boy.

“We will launch an agitation if the movie is not banned as we have been told that it hurts the Hindu religious sentiments by promoting ‘love jihad’,” said Vinod Shukla to a daily. Shukla is the chairman of Kedar Sabha, an organisation of the priests based in Kedarnath.

Shukla said the priests had strongly protested against the film when its “vulgar dance sequences” were being shot around Kedarnath shrine. The locals too have started protesting against its release.

Protests demanding a ban on the film have already taken placed in Kotdwar and Rudraprayag- towns in Uttarakhand- demanding a ban on the film.&nbsp;

The director of the film, Sanal Kumar Sasidharan , on Wednesday, said the movie is now eligible for public screenings, which had received a &#39;U/A&#39; certificate from the censor board. 
 
&quot;They did not find anything wrong with the film. It is clear now that all that happened was done on purpose,&quot; Sasidharan told a news agency. 
 
He also shared the new poster of the movie on Twitter, in which the title reads as, S DURGA. 
 
Incidentally, Kolkata will be the first city in India to screen the film post censor board clearance. The film will be screened at Chitrabani along with a seminar on censorship in India on March 5th. On March 6, Sasidharan will be present at Jadavpur University&#39;s Film Studies department for another screening. 
 
The film courted controversy after it was dropped by IFFI&#39;s Indian Panorama section at the last moment. The director moved the Kerala High Court and received a favourable verdict. 
 
In light of the High Court order, a screening was organised for the festival jury members who sought the intervention of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). 
 
On the last day of the festival, the censor board ordered a re-examination of the film, thus derailing its chances to be screened at IFFI. 
 
The bone of contention was the &quot;white rectangular boxes&quot; that followed the letter &quot;S&quot; in the revised title of the movie, which was initially named Sexy Durga.

Winston Duke, the actor who plays M&#39;Baku in the film, in an interview to Variety Magazine spoke about the importance of understanding and contextualizing of the Jabari tribe&#39;s religious beliefs in order to avoid negative perception.&quot;They haven&rsquo;t been affected by colonialism and all the narratives that are associated with developing a sense of inferiority and people comparing them to animals. To them, this is just who they pray to, and they find their strength and agency in this religion. So being a bit gorilla-influenced was a sense of pride for them,&quot; he said.

Censor board chief Prasoon Joshi has pulled out of the ongoing Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) in the wake of the Padmaavat controversy, saying he wished to avoid any discomfort to the organisers and fellow writers due to the row.

The 46-year-old poet and lyricist&#39;s statement came following threats from the Rajput group Karni Sena which had attacked Joshi for clearing Sanjay Leela Bhansali&#39;s controversial film &#39;Padmaavat&#39; and had protested the JLF&#39;s invitation to him.

Joshi said he does not want the &quot;dignity&quot; of the prestigious event to be compromised by the Padmaavat controversy.

According to various media reports, the controversial Bollywood flick, &#39;Padmaavat&#39;, will be released in Pakistan without any cuts and with a &#39;U-Certificate&#39;.

Islamabad-based Central Board of Film Censors (CBFC) chairman Mobashir Hasan took to the social media to announce that the film has been passed by the board.

With the clearance, Sanjay Leela Bhansali&rsquo;s period drama is all set to be released in&nbsp;Pakistan,&nbsp;removing fears that the film could face cuts due to the negative portrayal of Alauddin Khilji, a Muslim ruler of the Delhi Sultanate.

&ldquo;CBFC isn&rsquo;t biased in arts, creativity and healthy entertainment,&rdquo; Mr Hasan added.

According to the officials, the CBFC had also invited Professor Waqar Ali Shah, Chairman, Department of History, Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad to check the historical references in the film.

The movie was originally planned to release on January 26, then shifted to February 9 (as Padmaavat announced its release on Jan 25), which finally shifted to February 16 as CBFC delayed the process of issuing the release certificate to the film.&nbsp;

The second shift in dates resulted due to CBFC&#39;s hesitation in issuing a certificate without Defense Ministry&#39;s nod in&nbsp;a curious case. As the movie is set against the backdrop of the Indian Army, it looks like the Censor Board played safe to ensure the Ministry was okay with the film and thus showed it to them for a go-ahead.&nbsp;

The real reason behind this has now been revealed: As per a report in a Mumbai-based newspaper, the film shows a real-life scam surrounding the army and the government -- something that bothered both the Censor Board and Ministry of Defense. Dealing with corruption in certain sections of the army, the movie takes inspiration for one of its subplots from the real-life land scam of the Adarsh Housing Society,&nbsp;located in Colaba are of Mumbai.

In the film, there are scenes where&nbsp;Sidharth Malhotra and Pooja Chopra&#39;s characters are heard referring to a plot in &#39;Colaba&#39;. Naseeruddin Shah&#39;s (who has a cameo in the movie) character is linked to this subplot, where he is playing the watchman of the said plot. He mentions that the property reserved for widows of martyred soldiers will be taken over by politicians. This is what happened in real life as well in 2010 when the scam was revealed and several top brass officials and politicians were investigated.&nbsp;

The CBI is currently investigating the claim. It led to the resignation of then&nbsp;Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan, while the late Vilasrao Deshmukh, Sushilkumar Shinde and Shivajirao Nilangekar Patil, two former urban development ministers, Rajesh Tope and Sunil Tatkare, were all named in the scam.&nbsp;

As of now, Aiyaary <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/entertainment-aiyaary-gets-censor-certificate-films-cast-rejoices-32065" target="_blank">received its certificate</a> on February 7 and will continue to release on February 16.&nbsp;

Aiyaary starring Manoj Bajpayee and Siddharth Malhotra as Army officials finally got its censor certificate on Tuesday.&nbsp;

The good news was shared by director Neeraj Pandey followed by movie&#39;s official Twitter handle on February 6.&nbsp;

There was news of postponing the release of the film as CBFC had not given its makers the censor approval certificate. Reports suggested that&nbsp;Ministry of Defense had some<a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/entertainment-aiyaary-yet-to-get-clearance-from-censor-board-siddharth-malhotra-says-film-will-release-on-time-31835" target="_blank"> issues </a>with the portrayal of the Army in the film.

Post review of the film by the CBFC, Neeraj Pandey&#39;s Aiyaary had held a screening of their film for the Ministry of Defense on Saturday evening as instructed by the CBFC.&nbsp;

Aiyaary starring Manoj Bajpayee and Siddharth Malhotra as Army officials finally got its censor certificate on Tuesday. The good news was shared by director Neeraj Pandey followed by movie's official Twitter handle on February 6. There was news of postponing the release of the film as CBFC had not given its makers the censor approval certificate. Reports suggested that Ministry of Defense had some issues with the portrayal of the Army in the film. Post review of the film by the CBFC, Neeraj Pandey's Aiyaary had held a screening of their film for the Ministry of Defense on Saturday evening as instructed by the CBFC. 'Aiyaary' gets censor certificate, film's cast rejoices

Refuting earlier reports of Karni Sena withdrawing its protest against &#39;Padmaavat&#39;,&nbsp;Karni Sena leaders Lokendra Singh Kalvi and Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi on Saturday said they will continue their protest.&nbsp;

Kalvi heads Shree Rajput Karni Sena and Gogamedi is the chief of the other group with a similar name - Shree Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena.

The film, which depicts the struggle of a woman secretly working as a nude model in Mumbai, was pulled out from the Indian Panorama section of the 48th edition of the film festival, which was held in Goa last year in November. 
 
The exclusion of Nude, along with Malayalam film S Durga&nbsp;days before IIFI&#39;s opening, had created an uproar after the I and B Ministry overruled the festival jury&#39;s decision of screening the movies at the Panorama. 
 
Later, Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who is also the chairman of Entertainment Society of Goa, the nodal agency to host the IFFI, had said Nude&nbsp;was rejected as they did not have the clearance from the censor board. 
 
Sanal Kumar Sasidharan&#39;s S Durga&nbsp;was also not screened at the film festival even after getting a favourable verdict from the Kerala High Court as the CBFC asked the producers to resubmit the movie for certification.&nbsp;

A senior member of the erstwhile Mewar royal family, Mahendra Singh, has questioned the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for endorsing Sanjay Leela Bhansali&#39;s Padmavati&nbsp;claiming the film &quot;misrepresents&quot; revered heroic characters and may cause &quot;social unrest&quot;.

The CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi has clarified that they had suggested only 5 modifications and &quot;no cuts&quot; in Sanjay Leela Bhansali&#39;s period drama&nbsp;Padmavati.

1. To change the disclaimer clearly to one that does not claim historical accuracy.

2. The title to be changed from Padmavati to Padmavat -- the filmmakers attributed their material/creative source as the fictional poem Padmavat and not history.

3. Modifications in the song Ghoomar to make the depiction befitting the character being portrayed.

4. Modify the incorrect/misleading reference to historical places.

5. Add a disclaimer clearly stating that the film, in no manner, &nbsp;subscribes to the practice of Sati and doesn&#39;t seek to glorify it.

According to reports, the makers of Padmavati have agreed to the suggestions proposed by the CBFC.&nbsp;

Joshi said that they have suggested Padmavati makers comply with the following modifications in order to clear the film under UA certificate: 1. To change the disclaimer clearly to one that does not claim historical accuracy. 2. The title to be changed from Padmavati to Padmavat -- the filmmakers attributed their material/creative source as the fictional poem Padmavat and not history. 3. Modifications in the song Ghoomar to make the depiction befitting the character being portrayed. 4. Modify the incorrect/misleading reference to historical places. 5. Add a disclaimer clearly stating that the film, in no manner, subscribes to the practice of Sati and doesn't seek to glorify it. A section of historians, however, doubt the existence of the queen and say she is a fictional character first portrayed in a 16th-century poem as having committed Jauhar, the medieval practice in which female royals walked into funeral fires to embrace death over being taken captive by an opponent ruler.&nbsp;

The Central Board of Film Certification has returned the movie &quot;Padmavati&quot; to its makers, saying the application is &quot;incomplete&quot;.

PTI reported the CBFC as saying the movie would be reviewed, and given a certificate, once it is sent back to the board.&nbsp;

&quot;The film was submitted for certification last week. We examined the documents, as we normally do. It was conveyed to the makers that their application was incomplete. They had to rectify and send it back, we will view it when it comes back to us,&quot; PTI quoted a source in the CBFC as saying.&nbsp;

&quot;When they (makers) rectify the deficiency we will again scrutinise it once more and when the turn comes we will examine it (film for certification),&quot; the source added.

The Central Board of Film Certification has returned the movie "Padmavati" to its makers, saying the application is "incomplete". PTI reported the CBFC as saying the movie would be reviewed, and given a certificate, once it is sent back to the board. "The film was submitted for certification last week. We examined the documents, as we normally do. It was conveyed to the makers that their application was incomplete. They had to rectify and send it back, we will view it when it comes back to us," PTI quoted a source in the CBFC as saying. "When they (makers) rectify the deficiency we will again scrutinise it once more and when the turn comes we will examine it (film for certification)," the source added. The source, however, refused to say what in the application was incomplete. CBFC returns 'Padmavati' to makers, says application 'incomplete'?

In its wake, Uttar Pradesh`s Home Department has written to the secretary of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, urging it to convey the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) of the adverse impact of the protests on peace and harmony. 
 
The letter also appeals for the certification board to take public sentiments into cognizance while granting a certificate to the movie. 
 
The movie`s December 1 release date also coincides with the counting of votes in the Uttar Pradesh local body elections, while the Islamic festival of Milad-un-Nabi is likely to fall on December 2, which is marked by large processions by the community. 
 
In light of both events, the ministry also suggested that the movie`s release around the same time would not be in the interests of peace and order. 
 
The period drama, starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor, has been facing protests from various groups, including Shri Rajput Karni Sena, for allegedly tampering with historical facts.The Karni Sena had earlier demolished the sets of the movie in Jaipur and also thrashed filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. 
 
The Karni Sena activists have amped up the act by staging protests in various parts of the country, covering Bangalore in the South as well. The protests have turned even more violent, as acts of vandalism in Rajasthan`s Kota were reported on Tuesday.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, The Rajasthan Police on Thursday said that the people protesting against Sanjay Leela Bhansali`s movie Padmavati&nbsp;should not take law and order into their hands.&quot;The protesters can stage demonstrations peacefully and can keep their demands in front but that all should be under law and order. We will take proper action if any situation violating law and order arises. Presently, the situation is under control. We will make a strategy if needed and are ready for any upcoming situation,&quot; Rajasthan Director General of Police (DGP) Ajit Singh told ANI. 
 
Yesterday, Rajput Karni Sena chief Lokendra Singh Kalvi warned of dire consequences if the release of Padmavati&nbsp;was not stalled.Speaking to ANI, Kalvi said, &quot;Jauhar ki jwala hai, bahut kuch jalega. Rok sako to rok lo (a lot will burn, stop if you can).&quot; 
 
Earlier, the Supreme Court had rejected a petition filed against the release of Padmavati, saying the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) was yet to issue a certificate to the movie.

The film&#39;s story is based on a fictional tale which had Ratan Singh going to war with Alauddin Khilji to protect his wife Queen Padmavati&#39;s honour. Known for her exceptional beauty, Padmavati was desired by Khilji who wanted to win her over by defeating her husband. Ratan&nbsp;Singh eventually did get killed in the war and Queen Padmavati performed Jauhar (self-immolation) along with thousands of other women of her kingdom in order to protect her honour.

In January this year, members of the Rajput outfit&nbsp;<a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/entertainment-padmavati-row-now-karni-sena-threatens-to-chop-off-deepika-padukones-nose-if-the-film-releases-24367">Karni Sena</a> vandalised the sets of Padmavati and even assaulted Sanjay Leela Bhansali as the crew was shooting at Jaigarh Fort in Jaipur. Several meetings were held between officials of Bhansali productions and the representatives of Karni Sena following the incident where the makers assured that the film did not have any such dream sequence neither did it tamper with history. 
 
The sets were torched in Kolhapur in March later this year. While no one was hurt, losses worth crores were incurred.&nbsp;

The film&nbsp;Lipstick Waale Sapne (Lipstick Under My Burkha in English) is an Indian film directed by Alankrita Shrivastava and produced by Prakash Jha. &ldquo;We are honoured that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has chosen our opening night film, Lipstick Under My Burkha, to be an official Golden Globes qualifying screening. The director of the film will now have the opportunity to properly plan a Golden Globes campaign should she choose to submit the film for nomination,&rdquo; Director of Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles Christina Marouda said in a press statement.

The film stars Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak, Aahana Kumra and Plabita Borthakur in lead roles along with Sushant Singh, Vikrant Massey, Shashank Arora, Vaibhav Tatwawaadi and Jagat Singh Solanki.&nbsp;The trailer of the film was released on 14 October 2016 while the film premiered at the Tokyo and Mumbai Film Festivals, where it won the Spirit of Asia Prize and the Oxfam Award for Best Film on Gender Equality.&nbsp;

Indian movie 'Lipstick Under My Burkha' eligible for Golden Globes

Indian filmmakers on Wednesday took a bitter censorship row to court in the latest dispute involving the notoriously sensitive censor board that has renewed fears over creative freedoms. 
 
A lawyer told Mumbai&#39;s highest court that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had demanded 13 cuts to Udta Punjab, a Bollywood movie depicting drug addiction in Punjab, an Indian state. 
 
CBFC last year blocked the release of a toned-down version of Fifty Shades of Grey&nbsp;and deemed two James Bond kissing scenes unsuitable for an Indian audience. 
 
Udta Punjab&nbsp;producers had filed a petition with the Bombay High Court asking it to order the CBFC to release its list of required cuts, amid reports the board was seeking 89 changes to the movie. 
 
They received the suggested list of 13 cuts shortly before the hearing, their lawyer told the court. Judges adjourned the case until Thursday to give the filmmakers time to decide their next move. 
 
No details were given about which cuts should be made but Indian media has widely reported that the CBFC wants the filmmakers to remove all references to Punjab, including in the title. 
 
The northern Indian state is due to hold local elections in 2017. Critics allege that the CBFC is censoring the movie to avoid embarrassing the state government. 
 
CBFC chairman Pahlaj Nihalani suggested Wednesday that references to Punjab could be cut because, despite claiming the characters are fictitious, &quot;the whole movie is on Punjab and they have taken names from Punjab&quot;. 
 
&quot;The film has been passed. They need to submit the cuts and take the certificate,&quot; Nihalani told reporters. 
 
The dispute has renewed fears over creative freedom in India, with one of &quot;Udta Punjab&#39;s&quot; producers, Anurag Kashyap, tweeting on Monday that the CBFC&#39;s stance was akin to living in North Korea.
