However, the officials were not able to identify the body of Grubb from his appearance, dental information, belongings, fingerprints and clothing which were collected for examination and were later misplaced.&nbsp;

While speaking to the reporters, Berks County’s Coroner John Fielding said that “detectives from the state police and investigators from the coroner’s office” had revisited the case periodically in the last 15 years and compared his information “to no less than 10 missing persons through fingerprints and dental X-rays”.

In August 2019, the police exhumed the body of Grubb after his dental records were found to have links with two missing person cases reported in Florida and Illinois.&nbsp;

The body was taken to Reading Hospital where a forensic anthropologist, forensic pathologist and forensic odontologist examined it.

Although the DNA samples of Grubb didn’t match any missing person cases, Pennsylvania State Police trooper Ian Keck in August 2024 found his missing fingerprints.

An hour after the card of DNA samples&nbsp;was submitted to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), the print was matched to Grubb’s fingerprints by an FBI fingerprint expert.&nbsp;

“This identification brings a long-awaited resolution to his family, who have been notified and expressed their deep appreciation for the collective efforts that made it possible,” said Fielding.

“It is moments like these that remind us of the importance of our work to provide answers, to bring closure and to give the unidentified a name and a story," he added.&nbsp;

Researchers believe that it was a lair of cave hyenas for a long time and probably the largest one in Asia.&nbsp;

The cave contained around 400 kilogrammes of bones from both predator and prey animals – brown bears, wolves, rhinos, yaks, deer, bison, horses, rodents, birds, fish, and so on – dating back thousands of years. The site is said to be untouched for nearly 42,000 years. The bones have since been sent to the Russian city of Yekaterinburg for further analysis. 
 
Why cave hyenas?

A translated version of the statement released by the Russian institute, V. S. Sobolev Institute of Geology and Mineralogy, said that palaeontologists also found two complete cave hyena skulls and suspect this is where they raised their cubs.&nbsp;

The researchers speculate that hyenas lived in the cave since the bones found had gnaw marks consistent with hyena teeth. Additionally, they also found bones of hyena pups which are also unusually intact after this long, considering their fragility which indicated that they were raised inside the cave.

“We even found a whole skull of a young (hyena), many lower jaws and milk teeth,” Dmitry Gimranov, senior researcher at the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said in a statement. The palaeontologists also found multiple whole skulls of young hyenas which could help them understand how their cubs grew, what they ate, and more.&nbsp;

He also spoke about how there is a similar one in Russia which was excavated at the end of the Soviet era but even there they did not find “so many remains of hyenas” or complete skulls.&nbsp;

“We already have two whole skulls - this is a very big rarity,” said Gimranov. He added, “In addition, we came across a series of bones in anatomical order. For example, in rhinos, the ulna and radius bones are together. This suggests that the hyenas dragged parts of the carcasses into the lair.”&nbsp;

The palaeontologists also found multiple whole skulls of young hyenas which could help them understand how their cubs grew, what they ate, and more. He also spoke about how there is a similar one in Russia which was excavated at the end of the Soviet era but even there they did not find “so many remains of hyenas” or complete skulls. “We already have two whole skulls - this is a very big rarity,” said Gimranov. A Kong Adventure Centre spokesperson told The Guardian:&nbsp;“On Saturday 22 April, a member of the public became stuck in the cave system at Kong Adventure."

“Staff tried to help the man and followed all emergency procedures but it became apparent that outside assistance was needed.

“Fire crew, mountain rescue, cave rescue, paramedics and Kong staff then worked to extricate the casualty, who was taken to Carlisle hospital for further treatment.”

At the scene were members of the police, Cumbria Fire and Rescue, Keswick Mountain Rescue, Cumbria Ore Mines Rescue Unit, Great North Air Ambulance, and the North West Ambulance Service's Hazardous Area Response Team.

Parts of the climbing wall were dismantled with the assistance of staff and other visitors to make way for the caving tunnels.

O'Keeffe was transferred to the Cumberland Infirmary's intensive care unit in Carlisle with "crush injuries" after being rescued.

He died&nbsp;from multiple-organ failure, according to a Facebook post by his older sister, Olivia Short. She paid tribute to her “beautiful, intelligent, fascinating brother”.

“At 3 pm today I sat with Carl and said goodbye forever.&nbsp;He was my baby brother and over the last few years became my best friend,”&nbsp;Short wrote on Sunday.

Short, who was beside her brother in the hospital, continued: “It became apparent that the injuries were severe and he would not be able to survive. He was then moved to a private room and I was able to stay with him so that he could die with some dignity."

“I’m broken-hearted,” she said. “As are the rest of our family.”

Meanwhile, a&nbsp;Cumberland Council spokesperson told Mirror that the incident is being investigated.

“We have been notified of an incident that took place at the Kong Adventure Centre, Keswick, and are investigating the matter, as the regulating body."

According to Flamini's support team, she broke the world record for the longest period of time spent in a cave during an experiment that was observed by scientists looking at the human brain and circadian rhythms.

Many historic events have gone by in the time the athlete spent inside the cave. Before the Ukraine War broke out, Spain's COVID mask law came to an end, and Britain's Queen Elizabeth II passed away, Flamini set off on her adventure on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021.

Her team said that she did emerge for eight days, but she remained sequestered in a tent as they worked to fix the router that allowed her to communicate with them through voice and video.&nbsp;

About pressing her panic button, she said, "Never. In fact I didn't want to come out."

Flamini worked out, painted and knitted wool caps while she was underground. According to her support crew, she brought two GoPro cameras to record her journey and consumed 1,000 litres of water. She took 60 books with her when she entered.&nbsp;

"I didn't talk to myself out loud, but I had internal conversations and got on very well with myself," she joked.

"You have to remain conscious of your feelings. If you're afraid, that's something natural but never let panic in or you get paralysed."

"If it's no communication it's no communication regardless of the circumstances. The people who know me knew and respected that."

Extreme experiment: A 50-year-old Spanish athlete emerges out of cave after 500 days

Almost twenty years ago, Panta Petrovic made social distancing a lifestyle choice when he moved into a tiny&nbsp;Serbian&nbsp;mountain&nbsp;cave&nbsp;to avoid society.

Last year, on one of his visits to town, the dreadlocked man with a long beard found out there was a pandemic raging. After vaccines against&nbsp;COVID-19&nbsp;became available, he got jabbed and&nbsp;urges&nbsp;everyone to do the same.

"It (the virus) does not pick. It will come here, to my&nbsp;cave, too", the 70-year-old told AFP in his&nbsp;cave&nbsp;on the forested Stara Planina mountain in southern Serbia.

The&nbsp;cave&nbsp;Petrovic calls home is accessible only by a steep climb that is not for the fainthearted.

It is equipped with an old rusty bathtub which he uses as a toilet, some benches and a stack of hay that serves as a bed.

Petrovic hails from the nearby town of Pirot where he worked as a labourer on the black market, as he did abroad for some time. He remarried on multiple occasions, a life he called "hectic".

Always a nature lover, he gradually found out that isolating from society brings him freedom he never tasted before.

"I was not free in the city. There is always someone in your way – you either argue with your wife, neighbours, or the police", Petrovic told AFP while peeling vegetables for lunch.

"Here, nobody is hassling me", the man added with a smile, revealing his decaying teeth.

'Money is cursed'

Petrovic mostly feeds on mushrooms and fish from the local creek, but also hikes downtown in search of leftover food in the bins.

And his visits to the town have become more regular recently.

After wolves slaughtered some of the animals he kept near the&nbsp;cave, Petrovic decided to move them to a shack he assembled in the outskirts of the town where he thought they would be safe.

The gang includes several goats, a flock of chickens, some thirty dogs and cats and his favourite -- an adult wild boar named Mara.

Petrovic found her eight years ago as a helpless piglet entangled in the bushes, and bottle-fed her until she recovered.

Now, the intimidating 200-kilogram&nbsp;(440 pound) animal playfully rolls in the creek and eats apples from Petrovic's hand.

"She means everything to me, I love her and she listens to me. There is no money that can buy such a thing. A true pet", Petrovic said.

Among the animals, there are three kittens whose mother was killed by a wolf, which he now feeds through a syringe.

Petrovic receives welfare, but also relies on donations for food and supplies for the animals.

After the vaccines became available, he rolled up his sleeve and got jabbed.

Petrovic said he "doesn't understand the fuss" some vaccine sceptics make, and underlined that he believes in a process that aims to eradicate diseases.

"I want to get all three doses, including the extra one. I urge every citizen to get vaccinated, every single one of them."

Before isolating, Petrovic donated all the money he had made abroad to the community by funding the construction of three small bridges in the town.

"Money is cursed, it spoils people. I think nothing can corrupt a human like money", Petrovic told AFP.

On top of one of the bridges, Petrovic built a pigeon loft which he, despite his advancing age, effortlessly climbs in order to stock them with pieces of bread he found while searching the bins.

Serbian cave hermit gets COVID-19 jab, urges others to follow

The cave at the Kedarnath shrine where Prime Minister Narendra Modi meditated last month has seen an unprecedented boost in popularity, with a large number of devotees logging into the GMVN website daily to book the facility online.

The "dhyan gufa" (meditation cave) is booked for the whole of July and there are also advance bookings for different dates in August, September and October, Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam Ltd (GMVN) General Manager B L Rana said.

People from different parts of the country are logging into the GMVN website to book the facility, he said. Since the prime minister's visit in May, not a single day has passed when the "dhyan gufa" was not occupied by someone, the GMVN official said.

The growing popularity of the unique facility in the serene environs of the 12,500 feet shrine in the Garhwal Himalayas has prompted the district administration to plan three more meditation caves in its vicinity, Rudraprayag District Magistrate Mangesh Ghildiyal told PTI.

"We are planning to build three more such caves close to the existing one. In fact, work on one has already started and the sites for the other two on the surrounding hills have also been identified," he said.

Ghildiyal said the "gufa" has been in existence for nearly a year now but people have started showing an interest only after the prime minister meditated there on the night of May 18.

When Modi came to visit the shrine, a photograph of the PM wrapped in a saffron shawl, sitting inside the cave with his eyes shut in a pose of meditation had gone viral on social media, giving the newly added tourist attraction the much needed promotional push, the DM said.

Better facilities created for pilgrims at Kedarnath coupled with the prime minister's increased visits (Modi visited the shrine four times during his first tenure as PM) have even contributed to a dramatic rise in footfall at the Himalayan temple, which received a record 7,62,000 pilgrims in 50 days so far this year, Ghildiyal said.&nbsp;

Kedarnath had opened on May 9 this year for devotees after remaining closed for the winter.

"The number of pilgrims visiting Kedarnath during the entire yatra season last year was 7,32,000. There are more than three months to go for the end of the yatra sometime in October, and we hope the number this time is all set to cross the 10 lakh mark. It will be the first time in the history of Kedarnath,"&nbsp;Ghildiyal said.

In 2012, Kedarnath had received 5,80,000 pilgrims. There was a sudden slump in footfall after the flash floods in 2013 which caused large-scale damage to the infrastructure in the area. As the reconstruction of Kedarpuri started, the number of pilgrims began to rise from 2015 onwards, he said.

The Kedarnath area had witnessed unprecedented rainfall between June 14, 2013, and June 17, 2013, and the Chorabari lake had collapsed due to cloudburst, resulting in a major flash flood.

Several roads, buildings and other structures were washed away and, according to the state government, the estimated death toll was around 10,000, with over 3,000 persons missing.

Reconstruction of Kedarpuri, the township around the temple, is considered the pet project of the prime minister, who keeps reviewing its progress from time to time via video-conferencing.&nbsp;
