The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday (Nov 28) that Bolsonaro is hoping for Trump to threaten Brazil with sanctions if courts bar him from running for the top office until 2030 for attacking the country’s voting system.

“Trump is back, and it’s a sign we’ll be back, too,” the US newspaper quoted Bolsonaro&nbsp;as saying.

Bolsonaro’s statement comes just days after Brazil police released a damning report linking the former president to an alleged design to overturn the 2022 election that he lost to his left-wing rival and incumbent&nbsp;President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

The report claimed that Bolsonaro “planned, acted and was directly and effectively aware of the actions of the criminal organisation aiming to launch a coup d’etat and eliminate the democratic rule of law.”

Brazil's former president, Jair Bolsonaro, is once again under scrutiny, this time for allegedly "harassing" a humpback whale while riding a jetski during a public holiday.

This investigation adds to a series of probes into Bolsonaro's actions, ranging from environmental offences to political misconduct, reported the Guardian.

Known as "Captain Chainsaw" for his anti-environmental policies during his four-year administration, Bolsonaro now faces allegations of environmental misconduct during a jetski excursion near São Sebastião on Brazil's south-eastern coastline.

In June, a man resembling Bolsonaro was reportedly filmed within 15 metres of a humpback whale, using a mobile phone to capture the distressed behaviour&nbsp;of the whale.

Brazilian law prohibits the deliberate harassment of cetaceans, including humpback whales, and mandates a minimum distance of 100 metres for vessels with engines running.

Environmental agency Ibama enforces regulations that prohibit vessels from approaching marine animals too closely and engaging in activities that may disturb them. Such regulations include maintaining a distance of 300 metres from dolphins or whales and avoiding excessive noise in their vicinity.

Brazil's Bolsonaro faces probe for ‘harassing’ humpback whale in latest legal woe

Brazilian Army Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, who was the aide of former president Jair Bolsonaro, has told police that after selling two luxury watches the ex-president had received as official gifts, he gave him tens of thousands of dollars, The Guardian reported.&nbsp;

Last month, police raided the homes of Bolsonaro allies who were accused of reselling gifts including jewellery from foreign dignitaries for the "illicit enrichment of" the former president.&nbsp;

The investigators earlier said that Cid, one of the accused, mentioned in an audio message that "25,000 dollars in cash" would be intended for the ex-president after the sale of certain goods.&nbsp;

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court of the nation authorised a cooperation deal between Cid and the country's Federal Police and last week, Cid was released on parole from the military prison in Brasília. He was moved to a housing development for the military.&nbsp;

The report mentioned that the deal apparently needs Cid to give details regarding all the suspected crimes committed when Bolsonaro was in office, which included an alleged coup plot.&nbsp;

Bolsonaro's ex-aide reportedly admits to selling official gifts for ex-president: Report

A day after the trial began against pro-Bolosnaro rioters who stormed the Supreme Court of Brazil, the National Congress of Brazil and the Planalto Presidential Palace on January 8, the apex court has sentenced&nbsp;a defendant to 17 years in prison on charges including an attempted coup.

51-year-old Aecio Pereira, the accused, was unanimously convicted by the&nbsp;court's 11 justices who found him&nbsp;guilty of all five charges he faced for invading the Congress building. Pereira faced charges related to&nbsp;violent uprising against the rule of law, attempted coup, armed criminal conspiracy, damaging a national heritage site and aggravated property destruction.

"The (rioters') objective was to violently seize Brasilia and spread a criminal attack against the rule of law across the country," said Justice Cristiano Zanin while delivering the verdict.&nbsp;

During the hearing, Pereira denied any wrongdoing but an obscene&nbsp;video that he made on the day, wearing&nbsp;a T-shirt marked "Military Intervention" at the Senate president's table proved to be one of the jarring pieces of evidence against him.&nbsp;

His lawyers argued that&nbsp;Pereira, a former&nbsp;employee of the Sao Paulo municipal sanitation company, was unarmed and committed no acts of violence. However, in the video, he could be heard&nbsp;urging fellow Bolsonaro supporters to "take to the streets".&nbsp;

Pereira is one of the four defendants who will be facing music in court for their actions, which drew&nbsp;eerie similarities to the January 6 insurrection attempt by former US president Donald Trump&nbsp;supporters in 2021 at the US Capitol Hill.&nbsp;

Police in Brazil on Friday (August 11) raided homes of aides of former Brazil president Jair Bolsonaro. These aides have been accused of reselling gifts from foreign dignitaries, including jewellery for the "illicit enrichment of" the former president.

Bolsonaro, a divisive right-winger, has categorically denied allegations of wrongdoing. His lawyers have said that he "never appropriated or misappropriated any public good," in a statement posted on the G1 news site.

The scandal was reported earlier this year. The newspaper Estado de Sao Paulo reported that customs officials had seized some jewels from a government aide. The aide had attempted to bring them into the country undeclared in his backpack in 2021.

According to Brazilian law, public officials are barred from keeping expensive gifts.

Elements of the police investigation were disclosed in a judgment by Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes to justify search warrants carried out by federal police on Friday at the homes of former Bolsonaro aides.

"The evidence collected showed (the existence) during the presidency of Jair Bolsonaro, of a network to divert goods of a high amount which were offered to him," part of the judgment read.

"Beyond allowing an inadmissible enrichment of the President of the Republic... it is possible that the Brazilian head of state was co-opted by foreign nations through these assets,"&nbsp;investigators believe.

The investigators also reported goods placed in "a suitcase transported on the presidential plane on December 30". At that time, Bolsonaro was leaving Brazil for the United States. This was two days before the inauguration of his successor Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

De Moraes revealed that do Val informed him about the alleged plot in December but did not file a formal criminal complaint. De Moraes considered the accusations unofficial and dismissed them as "ridiculous."&nbsp;

Bolsonaro’s closest aide had plans ready for military coup in Brazil: Police

After spending three months in the US state of Florida, Bolsonaro returned to Brazil in late March.

However, according to Bolsonaro's spokesperson Fabio Wajngarten, who spoke to the media shortly after, former president Bolsonaro "repudiated all the unfortunate events that happened in Brasilia" on the day of the violence.&nbsp;

One of the reasons the probe was started was because Bolsonaro posted a video to social media two days after the riot. In the video, a prosecutor questioned the legitimacy of Lula's win.

In a contentious election in October, Lula, who previously served as president of Brazil from 2003 to 2010, narrowly secured victory over Bolsonaro.

Police earlier questioned former army captain Bolsonaro on 5 April in connection with a charge that he attempted to unlawfully import jewellery given to him by Saudi Arabia worth millions of dollars. According to a source close to the former president, he disputed the charge.&nbsp;

Bolsonaro is the focus of at least 16 investigations. If he is found guilty, he may get a prison term or lose his right to run for office.

Bolsonaro, 68, is set to start a new job next week as honorary president of his Liberal Party (PL), earning 41,600 reais (around $8,000) a month.

Bolsonaro recently rented a house in a gated community in Brasilia. He has said that he plans to criss-cross Brazil "doing politics" and "upholding the banner of conservatism."

But "I'm not going to lead any opposition," Bolsonaro told CNN Brasil as he prepared to board his flight.

"I'm going to participate with my party as someone with experience."

Before his return, authorities in Brasilia urged his supporters not to rally at the airport. They said that the police would be out in force to ensure that traffic runs smoothly.

Arruda reportedly prevented police from capturing suspected rioters who sought safety at an encampment outside Brasilia's army headquarters on the night of the incident. Some of Lula's friends believe Arruda is politically connected with Bolsonaro.

"This chap has managed to pollute the entire armed forces," Lula added of Bolsonaro, who escaped to the US on the eve&nbsp;of the January 1 inauguration and refused to accept defeat in last October's polls.

According to the Brazilian newspaper O Globo, Lula has fired at least 80 military personnel from their positions in the last five days in an apparent effort to purge ardent Bolsonaro supporters.

General Tomás Miguel Ribeiro Paiva, the 62-year-old commander of the military command in charge of the southeast in So Paulo, will take over from Arruda.

Ribeiro Paiva has&nbsp;asked troops to accept the outcome of the election from last October, which Lula won by roughly two million votes, in a speech shared on social media on Friday.

"It doesn’t matter [what the result of an election is], it must be respected. It might not always be what we want, but that doesn’t matter," Ribeiro Paiva asserted, regardless of whatever their commander-in-chief was, the military will carry out its task.
