<p>The explosion which occurred on Monday (August 14) sent shock waves through the area of San Cristobal, less than 30 kilometres west of the country’s capital Santo Domingo.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The health ministry, on Saturday, reported that the death toll due to the blast has risen to 32, while out of the 59 people injured, 12 are still in the hospital, of which three were in intensive care and five in burn units.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Case against plastic company</strong></h2>

<p>The police and public ministry recently released a joint statement that said that the blast, which also damaged nine buildings and destroyed four, occurred at a business called Vidal Plast, rather than at a bakery as authorities had said initially.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The Public Ministry has evidence that compromises the criminal responsibility of those responsible who, with their actions, caused the death of dozens of people and caused millions in losses,” said the statement, citing prosecutor Fadulia Rosa Rubio.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to officials, the company Vidal Plast recycles, buys and sells plastic materials. They also said that they had evidence that there was a fire at the business back in March as well.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The company did not take any measures “despite knowing the high risk of its operations,” said the Dominican authorities, reported the Associated Press.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Search and rescue teams, some using sniffer dogs, continued to work at the site, said deputy director of the Emergency Operations Center (COE), Julian Garcia, on Friday. He added, “Until all the rubble is removed, the search will not stop.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>Garcia also warned that the death toll could still rise. A report by AFP citing COE said that among the 32 killed “13 corpses have been identified and 11 bodies have been delivered to relatives.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>The government, on Thursday, said it could take up to three months to identify all those killed in the blast.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It was not clear immediately what caused the explosion.</p>

<p>“I heard this ‘boom.’ It was so loud that it woke me up. I thought it was thunder from the storms last night,” neighbor Alexis Typanski, a neighbour, told WTAE.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“My water bottle fell on me instantaneously. I was shaking. It scared me so bad.”</p>

<p>The county said that by 4:30 pm local time, the area was still considered an "active scene". Plum, the borough in the county where the tragedy took place is about 15 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.</p>

<p>Local authorities said at a news conference that multiple representatives from different gas companies were present at the scene and that the gas was turned off while the emergency crew worked at the scene.</p>

<p>The county has said that The Red Cross and Salvation Army were helping residents who were impacted by the explosion.</p>

<p>A bomb blast on Sunday (July 30) in Pakistan's restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province claimed the lives of at least 44 people and wounded over 200 others. The explosion hit a convention of the Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) in the Khar tehsil Bajaur district .</p>

<p>No group has yet claimed responsibility for the deadly bomb blast, but as per local media reports, the local chapter of the Islamic State (IS) group has carried out attacks against JUI-F in the recent past.</p>

<p>The district emergency officer told Geo News that a local JUI-F leader was also among those killed in the blast.</p>

<p>The official confirmed the name of the deceased as Amir Ziaullah Jan.</p>

<p>As per local media reports, the explosion occurred at a place inside the convention and law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the area.</p>

<p>While speaking to Geo News, JUI-F leader Hafiz Hamdullah said he was also supposed to attend the convention but could not do so because of some personal commitments.</p>

<p>“I strongly condemn the blast and want to give a message to the people behind it that this is not jihad but terrorism,” said the JUI-F &nbsp;leader, adding that the incident was an attack on humanity and Bajaur, Dawn reported.</p>

<p>Riaz Anwar, the health minister for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province said that at least 17 people who had sustained injuries in the explosion were in serious condition.</p>

<p>"I can confirm that in the hospital we have 39 dead bodies, with 123 wounded that includes 17 patients in a serious condition," he told news agency AFP.</p>

<p>"It was a suicide attack, with the bomber detonating himself in close proximity to the stage," he added.</p>

<p>"There was utter confusion, with human flesh, limbs, and body parts scattered throughout the area, alongside lifeless bodies."</p>

<p>Sabeeh Ullah, a 24-year-old party supporter whose arm got fractured in the incident, said the scale of injuries was frightening. "I found myself lying next to someone who had lost their limbs. The air was filled with the smell of human flesh," he told AFP.</p>

<h2><strong>Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemns attack</strong></h2>

<p>Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif released a statement, strongly condemning the attack targeted at the JUI-F convention, saying that the terrorists aimed at the ones who advocated the cause of Islam, the Holy Quran and Pakistan.</p>

<p>“Terrorists are enemies of Pakistan and they will be eliminated,” he said, adding that elements involved in the incident would be meted out strict punishment.</p>

<p>Later he took to Twitter, now rebranded as X, and said that the enemies who were attacking the political parties showed they were against Pakistan’s democratic system.</p>

<p>Ihor Humenyuk, the suspect, was linked to the deaths of four Ukrainian national guardsmen in 2015 and was attending the court in that case.</p>

<p>Reportedly, following the hearing, Humenyuk barricaded himself inside a bathroom and threw an explosive device at two guards. Their prompt actions prevented him from escaping the building.</p>

<p>As law enforcement officers fired into the air to contain the situation, Humenyuk retreated into another room within the courthouse. Refusing to engage in negotiations with officials, he further resorted to violence by hurling another explosive device, injuring two officers in the process.</p>

<p>Unfortunately, the altercation ended with Humenyuk losing his life. An investigation is now underway to determine how he had come into possession of the explosives within the courtroom premises.</p>
