Black Sea grain deal: Putin uncertain as Erdogan confirms renewal

A major development regarding the Black Sea grain deal, Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to extend the deal the announcement was made by Tukiye. The deal was initially supposed to expire on July 17th. The Black Sea grain deal was brokered by the United Nations and Turkiye in July 2022 to help alleviate the global food crises during Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

<p>Russia has issued yet another warning regarding the Black Sea grain deal. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Thursday said the country has seen no positive prospects when it came to the deal as certain parts of the deal affecting Russia, remained unfulfilled.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Work is ongoing, but to be honest we don't see any particularly positive prospects. Everything that was agreed on regarding us has not been fulfilled. The extension of the grain deal was a goodwill gesture. Russia has repeatedly made such gestures," said Peskov during a regular press briefing.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"But unfortunately, in the absence of reciprocity, the lack of desire on the part of the collective West to fulfil part of the agreements concerning Russia, this manifestation of goodwill and political will cannot be endless. That is why our exit from the deal after its expiry is being considered. But there is no decision yet," he added.</p>

An agreement allowing Ukrainian grain exports to ship through the Black Sea to help ease global hunger has been extended for two months just a day before its expiration.

Moscow says it has seen 'practically no results' from a pact with un that aimed to help Russia's grain and fertilizer exports. As per foreign minister Sergei Lavrov, the situation related to the Black Sea grain deal has reached a deadlock. The pact was renewed for 60 days last month. However, Russia has signalled that it may not agree to extend it further unless the West removes obstacles. In July last year, Russia signed a three-year deal in which the UN agreed to help try and remove any obstacles to its grain and fertilizer exports. While those exports are not subject to western sanctions, Moscow says restrictions on payments, logistics and insurance are a barrier to shipments. During a news conference at UN, Lavrov also touched upon Iran nuclear deal negotiations. Lavrov said attempts to add new requirements to the original 2015 Iranian nuclear deal were complicating the process of reviving it. He also said that the fate of the deal does not depend on Iran, Russia or China.

'Situation deadlocked': Russia slams the West over imperiled grain deal

Russia is threatening to terminate the Black Sea grain deal, viewed as critical for solving the world hunger crisis, if Group of Seven nations ban exports to the country. Such a ban could be part of the ever-evolving set of sanctions the allies have leveled against Moscow for its war in Ukraine. Dmitry Medvedev, the former Russian president and deputy chair of Russia's security council, implied in a Telegram post Sunday that Russia would answer a new export ban by halting the flow of "goods that are the most sensitive for G7."
