Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's relationship has dominated headlines for the past few weeks. The actors who rekindled their relationship in 2021 and married in 2022, seem to have hit a rough patch in their marriage. The two have not been photographed together on outings lately barring the times they stepped out to fulfil parental commitments.

Speculations about the cracks in their marriage increased following reports of Affleck moving out of their lavish Beverly Hills mansion to reside in a rental property. Amid news of divorce, JLo cancelled her highly anticipated LA concerts. Sources state that the cancellation was done due to family issues, but PR experts believe there is more to the story.

A distraction from career struggles?

Jennifer Lopez's million-dollar LA residency was abruptly cancelled, leaving fans dismayed. The singer herself shared the news, expressing how "heartsick and devastated" she felt. While most speculated that the event was called off due to tensions at home for JLO, other reports claim that MGM Grand, the venue slated to host JLo's over 90 concerts scheduled in 2025 and promised her $90 million for the deal, “grew nervous due to low ticket sales.”

Speaking to Mirror, Riaz said, "In March, JLo cancelled the last seven dates of the tour. Then in April, the tour name was changed from This Is Me…Now to This Is Me … Live: The Greatest Hits.”

JLo facing challenges in her career?

Furthermore, JLo's return to the film industry with the Netflix sci-fi series, Atlas, also got a lacklustre response. It is not uncommon for celebrities to face speculation and rumours, particularly during challenging times in their careers.”

"Divorce rumours or personal life distractions can sometimes be used as a strategy to divert attention from any professional setbacks." PR specialist points out that these stories should be taken with scepticism until they are proven true.

Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez have 'awkward' outing at daughter Violet's graduation party

In the new Netflix film Atlas, Jennifer Lopez takes on the role of data analyst Atlas Shepherd, a character who grapples with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence. Her journey is put to the test as she embarks on a mission to capture a renegade robot. Lopez's portrayal of Atlas is garnering attention, not only for her compelling performance but also for the sweet way her husband, Ben Affleck, helped her prepare for the role.

Sterling K. Brown, Lopez's co-star in Atlas, recently shared in an interview with Entertainment Weekly how Affleck's involvement played a pivotal role in Jennifer's performance. Affleck, 51, would often read the lines of Smith, the AI companion voiced by Gregory James Cohan, to help Lopez perfect her character.

"Every once in a while, Ben would read the lines for Smith. And I think the newlyweds, still very much in love, I think she just wanted to hear his voice," Brown, 48, revealed. "And so sometimes, the reactions that you got from her were because she was listening to her husband's voice."

Smith's character, as described by Tudum, exists solely as a voice within Atlas' suit. The film explores the evolving dynamic between the initially combative duo, who eventually learn to work together despite Atlas' numerous reservations.

Has Jennifer Lopez-Ben Affleck's marriage run into troubled waters? According to a report by In Touch Weekly, Affleck has already “moved out” of their shared residence.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck plagued by divorce rumours

On May 6, as JLo helmed the pivotal position as one of the Met Gala co-chairs, her husband Ben Affleck was conspicuous by absence. Many felt he missed out on the opportunity to cheer on his wife during her starry red carpet moment.

Though media reports initially connected his absence at the Gala to his official commitments to the filming of The Accountant 2, In Touch Weekly's report claims that Affleck decided to skip the event as he has “decided to call it quits” with the 54-year-old pop diva.

Ever since they rekindled their romance in 2021, both Hollywood stars have approached their time in the spotlight differently.

While JLo has avidly been the subject of several stories on camera, the Air actor has reduced his public presence to a minimum.

He's even admitted wanting to stay away from making headlines for his relationship, but also being stuck in limbo in Lopez's documentary: "Getting back together, I said, ‘Listen, one of the things I don’t want is a relationship on social media.’ Then I sort of realised it’s not a fair thing to ask. It’s sort of, like, you’re going to marry a boat captain, and you go, ‘Well, I don’t want the water.’ We’re trying to learn to compromise."

Affleck's comment led to speculations about the growing distance between the two. According to The Mirror, they were last spotted together in the final week of March, when they were headed out for an NYC lunch.

The British tabloid also noted that the Marry Me actress was pictured on Wednesday, arriving at a Los Angeles studio with her crew, minus Ben.

The insider added that Ben, after allegedly moving out of their house, is “focusing on his work and his kids now.”

If they do part ways, they will also have to "sell the dream house they spent two years searching for."

The insider though added that Ben and Jennifer will “never stop loving each other."

“She can't control him, and he can't change her. There's no way it could have lasted,” the insider seemingly concluded.

The couple first started dating in 2002 and even got engaged but called it off in 2004. They both then rekindled their romance nearly two decades later in 2021, leading up to their ultimate wedding in July 2022.

Now, as the insider also asserted, despite the duo waiting over two decades to find their way back to each other, “they just couldn't make it work” in the end.

While the cause of their rift is so far not known, one will have to wait and watch if the couple officially makes an announcement of their separation or slam the rumours with a public statement or event better- a public appearance together.

Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner's daughter comes out as trans at grandfather's memorial service

Throughout her career, Jennifer Lopez has been hailed as an epochal, prolific and hard-working artist. One adjective not often associated with the pop icon-turned-actor and movie producer, however, is self-deprecating.

But as she readies to drop her first studio album in a decade, Lopez is performing a kind of fictionalized mea culpa about her past romantic relationships in This is Me…Now: A Love Story, hitting Prime Video Friday in tandem with the album’s release. Live Nation also announced Thursday that Lopez will embark on a 30-plus city tour beginning June 26 in Orlando, Florida.

The 65-minute musical film, which she self-financed, follows a hopeless romantic in search of love (Lopez) and the myriad ways she contends with repeated heartbreak, including visits to her therapist (played by Fat Joe) and sobbing through old romantic films. From a distance, a star-studded Zodiac council, played by Jane Fonda, Post Malone, Keke Palmer, Sofia Vergara and others, provide a sympathetic but mercilessly faultfinding commentary on her desperation for love, failed marriages (Lopez is on her fourth) — and rebounding relationships.

At 54, Lopez said her ninth studio album and its accompanying film were the result of a sudden burst of inspiration, a large part of which she attributes to her rekindled romance with and marriage to Ben Affleck.

Remarks have been edited for clarity and brevity.

AP: It’s been a decade since your last album. Does making music feel like riding a bike for you or do you have to get back into gear again?

LOPEZ: You know, it’s a scary thing whenever you start something new again. Even when I start a movie and I haven’t done a movie in a few months or a year or whatever. But this was really different because I hadn’t been inspired to really go into the studio and write a whole album for years. I did “Marry Me” a few years ago for the movie, but that was not a Jennifer Lopez album, not a J.Lo album. I just hadn’t been inspired at all.

So, to actually get inspiration was the kind of gift, the exciting thing, and wanting to go in there. And yes, I was nervous at first, but I went in there on the first day and I said, “This is the mission.” We made ‘This is me…Then’ 20 years ago, and we’re going to make ‘This Is Me…Now.’ This miracle has happened, a second chance. And I’d love to capture this moment in time the way that album captured that moment in time.

AP: You talked about people not understanding the vision for the film initially and having to really stand your ground.

LOPEZ: Nobody wanted to make the project. There doesn’t seem to be a big appetite for musical projects from the powers that be these days, which is sad because I remember growing up and loving to see these music projects from my favorite artists, but they just don’t see it that way. I knew that it was going to be a big risk, but something was driving me to really get it done. I knew it was hard because it hadn’t been done before so it was hard to describe to people. When you see it, you’re like, “Oh yeah, I’ve never seen anything like this before” — I said, “When they see it, they’re going to get it.” And that’s what happened, thank God. It could have really turned out badly. And by the way, every day that’s how I felt, that this could really turn out badly. But I still stayed the course like the captain of the ship in the middle of the storm. It’s like “We really could die right now, but we’re going to keep going.”

AP: The star-studded Zodiac council is hysterical. Them observing your life and having that kind of commentary felt very meta of you being in the public eye for so long.

LOPEZ: Yeah. You described it perfectly. It was a commentary on that. But it was also like everybody has that in their life, right? So, it’s like kind of the Greek chorus of your own life. You know, you have your friends, your family, your siblings, your co-workers, everybody commenting like, “Oh, she’s dating this person. Did you hear she broke up with that guy?” They’re always like telling you. “Why are you with this guy?” And they’re rooting for you. It’s not that they’re not rooting for you. And for me, it’s like the media and the world sometimes that are commenting. But I think it was a really kind of humorous way to do it but also be able to get those pieces of information in there, you know?

AP: Do you feel like, because your relationships have been so public, that you’ve been harder on yourself about them?

LOPEZ: Oh yeah. 100%. It’s made me doubt myself and really feel bad about myself at times. Made me feel like I wanted to quit at times. But at the end of the day, I feel like you kind of have to do this thing where you learn how to navigate it. You take the things that could be constructive about that and use it, and the rest you kind of just throw away as kind of like haterations or, you know, other things like that and just be like, “Whatever. I know who I am, I know what I want to do.” You know? And little by little, you know, as you get older and you get more mature and you have more experience, you start realizing more what’s real and what’s like just other people’s thoughts out here, right? And you get more confident in who you are, which is nice.

AP: The film is a journey of self-love. But you shared that this album was heavily inspired by rekindling your relationship with Ben. How do those two things relate to each other?

LOPEZ: Well, I think what people would kind of assume is that this (movie) is a story about that. But the truth is, the story is not about that. Really, the story is about your journey as a person, it’s about one person’s journey and what it takes to get from heartbreak back to love. Or a hopeless romantic’s journey in their search for love. I don’t like to talk too much about like, “Here’s what you’ll get from it.” I want everybody to get whatever they get from it. But at the end of the day, what I hope is that they’re entertained and that it gives them hope.

AP: Is that why it was worth it to be so vulnerable?

LOPEZ: I think as an artist, if you can’t be honest and vulnerable, then you’re really not doing your job right. It requires that. And not just in music, but in acting and in expressing yourself. You have to kind of bare a part of your soul. That’s part of it. And that’s not easy for people. For us humans, it’s not easy. But as an artist, you have to kind of overcome that fear and go, “You know what? I think what I want to say and what I want to express here is something that’s worthy to be expressed.”

AP: Why did this feel like the right time to be so self-reflective about your past?

LOPEZ: It wasn’t about like, “Here’s the right time to do this.” It was just, this is how it happened. The instinct and the creative impulse just hit me. I was just very inspired to do this. And it’s like, “Well, why put yourself out there?” Because that’s what I felt like doing. That’s what my heart was telling me to do. That’s what my creativity was telling me to do. And it would have been very easy to be kind of, you know, give it all up and go, “Okay, let’s not do this. It’s fine. Let’s not do this,” and think later, “I didn’t do that because I was scared.” I don’t know. I don’t want to be there. I don’t ever want to be there.

I think what I want to say and what I want to express here is something that’s worthy to be expressed.” AP: Why did this feel like the right time to be so self-reflective about your past?

Hollywood A-listers, including Selena Gomez, Bella Hadid, Gigi Hadid, Jennifer Lopez, and Zayn Malik among others, have written an open letter to US President Joe Biden, imploring him to act swiftly and call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. This initiative has garnered support from prominent organisations like Oxfam America and ActionAid USA.

In the open letter addressed to President Biden, the group expressed their shared concerns as artists and advocates, but more importantly, as human beings deeply affected by the devastating loss of lives and unfolding horrors in Israel and Palestine.

They assert their belief that all life is sacred, regardless of faith or ethnicity, and strongly condemn the loss of innocent Palestinian and Israeli lives.

Jennifer Lopez shimmers in a silver dress as she celebrates birthday with husband Ben Affleck

Even with somebody like James Gunn at the helm of DC Studios' creative side, there is no end to issues plaguing the DC brand when it comes to the big screen. After the massive disaster that The Flash was, apparently the sequel to 2018's Aquaman, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, has problems of its own. As per a piece in The Hollywood Reporter, the film has undergone three rounds of reshoots and several test screenings, none of them promising. The piece also claimed that at one point the film had two Batmans, one played by Ben Affleck and one by Michael Keaton.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom's numerous challenges

Lost Kingdom has encountered several challenges on its journey toward the December 20 release date. Originally scheduled for December 2022, it faced multiple delays and underwent changes during its production, spanning three leadership regimes at Warner Bros. The film was greenlit during the tenure of former film boss Toby Emmerich and DC Films head Walter Hamada, following the unexpected success of the first Aquaman movie, which remains the highest-grossing DC film of all time.

Principal photography wrapped up in January 2022, but soon after, both Emmerich and Hamada left due to the merger that created Warner Bros Discovery. Subsequently, the film experienced two rounds of reshoots and uninspiring test screenings between summer 2022 and the beginning of 2023. With the involvement of new Warner Bros. film bosses Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, the editing process saw shifts in creative direction. Despite their efforts, some test screenings still fell short, leading to another round of reshoots.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom's numerous challenges Lost Kingdom has encountered several challenges on its journey toward the December 20 release date. Ben Affleck eventually joined reshoots to replace Keaton's scene, but the film's ever-changing schedule affected the inclusion of both versions of the Dark Knight in the final cut.
If I were to say that Andy Muschietti's The Flash has had a bumpy ride since its 2014 announcement, I'd be vastly understating things. This project went through such turmoil, with filmmakers and writers coming and going like they were auditioning for a revolving door, and then Ezra Miller going on a crime spree throughout the entire western hemisphere even as the rest of the world hunkered down in their homes amid the COVID-19 pandemic. There were at least three moments when it seemed downright impossible for the film, in its current Miller-led form, to ever make it to the screen. But miraculously, the cosmic forces aligned, and here we are, witnessing the improbable birth of The Flash. But was it worth it?

I should make it clear at the outset that for the sake of a fair review, I am choosing to ignore Miller's legal issues. They [Miller uses the plural pronoun] might be the face of this film but a film of this magnitude is a product of collective efforts of thousands of people. Regardless of personal circumstances, The Flash deserves to be evaluated based on its own merits.

The Flash and the prevalence of the multiverse

Suddenly, the concept of multiverse (infinite universes or parallel realities) is all the rage these days in superhero cinema. It really blew up with 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, a thrilling, visually astounding animated adventure that, unlike Spider-Man: No Way Home in late 2021, did not use the concept merely for a fan service and a nostalgic trip down memory lane, but as a core storytelling device. The Flash, it must be said, is like an amalgam of both approaches. It is nowhere near the level of Into the Spider-Verse (or indeed, its recently released sequel Across the Spider-Verse), but I feel it deals with parallel realities in a more interesting way than No Way Home.

What is The Flash all about?

Miller essays Barry Allen in The Flash, the titular superhero and a member of the Justice League who is the fastest man on earth and uses his speed to fight bad guys. He is so fast, in fact, that he has the ability to exceed the speed of light and thus affect time. And it is this ability of his that is the cause of much of his trouble in the movie. Inspired by the Flashpoint storyline from comics, the film brings back Michael Keaton as Batman and even features a cameo from Ben Affleck's Batman — since there can be multiple versions of the same character.

In the film, Barry is still not over the death of his mother Nora Allen (Maribel Verdú), who was stabbed to death by an unknown assailant when he was still a child. Barry's father Henry Allen (Ron Livingston) was wrongfully convicted of his wife's murder. So the tragedy effectively ruined three lives.

Despite warnings by Batman (the Ben Affleck one), who urges him to make peace with his scars ("Our scars make us who we are," he claims), Barry decides to use Speed Force and break the temporal barrier to go back in time to prevent his mother's death so he will have that idyllic childhood he was deprived of. And of course, chaos ensues. As happens in these movies, changing just one minute thing can have a ripple effect powerful enough to eventually destroy all reality.

Is The Flash any good?

I absolutely loved The Flash. It might be my favourite DC movie since 2017's Wonder Woman. There are a couple of missteps and I was mildly annoyed by the overuse of CGI and fan service overload particularly in the third act, but the film managed to rise above these issues. Even much of the fan service and cameos, except for one egregious instance, I grudgingly admit I cheered at the top of my voice. If you believed the trailers for the film were spoiler-y, you are in for multiple surprises. Most of these moments are just for laughs (and cheers) and are not meant to have any major ramification in terms of the future of DCU.

Christina Hodson's script struck a nice balance of the dark and light tones, I thought. and was able to incorporate moments of intensity and gravity without losing the overall sense of fun and adventure. One aspect that stood out to me was the film's unwavering heart and humour. Miller was, and I cannot stress this enough, brilliant as the two quite distinct versions of the speedster superhero, and nicely evoked that contrast between a veteran Flash and a kid learning to deal with his new superpowers.

The relationship between Barry and his mother was at the core of this movie and it added a poignant and emotional depth to Barry's arc. The film is above all about loss and the yearning for that elusive connection, and finally coming to terms with it.

Keaton was, well, Keaton. Which is to say, very watchable. His Batman is not my favourite live-action avatar of the superhero, but it comes close. (Those on social media questioning how a 70-year-old man without any superpower can be this lithe and athletic are missing the point of these movies.)

The action is great and in kicking butt, every single superhero gets spotlight, though I once again reiterate CGI is dodgy at times and I mean distractingly dodgy.

Conclusion

In the end, The Flash triumphs through its ability to connect emotionally and deliver moments of genuine humour. These elements, coupled with impressive action, make it a worthwhile watch.

Also Read: The Flash: Can DC’s ambitious multiverse movie overcome Ezra Miller scandals? The Flash and the prevalence of the multiverse Suddenly, the concept of multiverse (infinite universes or parallel realities) is all the rage these days in superhero cinema. The Flash Review: Ezra Miller zooms past hiccups in this DC adventure

Ezra Miller essays the titular role of DC speedster superhero in the upcoming superhero movie The Flash. The actor, who has had several run-ins with the law in the last few years, appeared in public for the first time in quite a while at the movie's premiere in Hollywood, Los Angeles. The said incidents included Miller choking a woman and throwing her to the ground in Iceland in 2020, which was caught on video and went viral, and allegedly grooming a child. Things became so bad that at one point, Warner Bros mulled scrapping the $200 million project to save face, which, had it happened, would have been unprecedented.

Even before Miller's alleged crimes-spree, The Flash had undergone several filmmaker and writer changes ever since it was announced back in 2014.

These are the first public words from Miller's mouth since their apology in 2022. “Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment. I want to apologise to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life," Variety had quoted Miller as saying.

DC's much-anticipated The Flash will release next month. While the excitement is quite considerable about the project, a shadow also looms over it, thanks to the lead star Ezra Miller. But director Andy Muschietti has said that he doesn't think anybody else can play that character as well. In the teaser for the upcoming episode of The Discourse podcast, he said, "I don’t think there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they did. The other depictions of the character are great, but this particular vision of the character, they just excelled in doing it. And, as you said, the two Barrys — it feels like a character that was made for them.” Miller indeed essays two versions of Barry, one in the main continuity and one in a parallel reality.

Andy's sister and co-producer Barbara Muschietti said, “In principal photography, Ezra was brilliant and the most committed and the most professional [actor]. Ezra gave everything for this role — physically, creatively, emotionally. They were absolutely supreme.”

The Flash and its numerous troubles

The Flash, a $200 million project, has been in trouble ever since it went into production. Mind you, this is apart from the troubles over conflicts between the studio and the writers and directors. The project has seen the comings and goings of multiple writers and filmmakers over the years before Muschietti, who directed the It movies for Warners, joined the project.

But the real cause of distress has been Miller. They had numerous run-ins with the law in the last couple of years [Miller uses they pronoun]. Even the lockdown induced by COVID-19 did not deter them as they were involved in a spate of incidents around the globe and many of which were violent in nature.

Some people told Vanity Fair as saying that Miller claimed to be Jesus, the Devil, and the next Messiah, among other things. Naturally, the Warners Bros execs were apprehensive of the bad press the film and by extension, the studio was getting. It was even contemplated to recast them or scrap the project altogether, much like what happened with Batgirl.
