The BBC said Saturday it has agreed a financial settlement with England cricket legend Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff after he was seriously hurt while filming for its popular show "Top Gear". "BBC Studios has reached an agreement with Freddie that we believe supports his continued rehabilitation, return to work and future plans," a BBC Studios spokesperson said in a statement.

BBC Studios is a commercial company which does not use income generated from the publicly-funded licence fee used by other arms of the UK broadcaster.

In September, Flintoff appeared in public for the first time since the accident, still sporting facial injuries, after he was coaxed into joining England's backroom staff in an unpaid capacity.

He played 79 Tests and 148 one-day internationals for England before retiring from cricket aged 32.

He has gone on to have a successful career in television, including co-presenting "Top Gear".

During his cricket career, Flintoff played a pivotal role in England winning the Ashes in 2005 and 2009.

Motoring show Top Gear, one of the BBC's most successful global exports, will be shelved for the "foreseeable future" following last year's crash that seriously injured host Andrew Flintoff, the broadcaster said Tuesday.

It has now shelved the show indefinitely.

"Given the exceptional circumstances, the BBC has decided to rest the UK show for the foreseeable future," it said in a statement.

"We will have more to say in the near future on this. We know resting the show will be disappointing news for fans, but it is the right thing to do."

"All other Top Gear activity remains unaffected by this hiatus including international formats, digital, magazines and licensing."

British broadcaster BBC, which has increasingly come under attack for its Israel-Hamas coverage, has issued an apology after it erroneously claimed that Israel was targeting medical staff and Arabic speakers during its operation at Gaza’s Al-Shifa hospital.

A BBC news presenter&nbsp;misquoted a Reuters report twice on-air saying that Israeli forces have been “targeting people including medical teams as well as Arab speakers” in Gaza’s Al-Shifa hospital.

However, the Reuters report had mentioned that medical teams and Arabic speakers were part of the Israeli Defence Forces who had been sent into the hospital to assist patients and staff.

It quoted an IDF spokesperson saying, “Our medical teams and Arabic-speaking soldiers are on the ground to ensure that these supplies reach those in need.”

<h2>BBC issues apology&nbsp;</h2>

The BBC subsequently issued a clarification on its website and broadcast an on-air apology.

“As BBC News covered initial reports that Israeli forces had entered Gaza’s main hospital, we said that ‘medical teams and Arab speakers’ were being targeted,” the BBC said on its “Corrections and Clarifications” page online.

“This was incorrect and misquoted a Reuters report. We should have said IDF forces included medical teams and Arabic speakers for this operation. We apologise for this error, which fell below our usual editorial standards. The correct version of events was broadcast minutes later and we apologised for the mistake on air later in the morning.”

“At best this shows a staggering lack of care when reporting on a highly volatile situation, which can have a knock-on effect all over the world, including in Britain, where antisemitic attacks have risen by more than 500 per cent since Oct 7,” it said.

“Incidents like this make a mockery of the BBC’s oft-stated dedication to professionalism and impartiality.”

The BBC has found itself mired in a controversy over alleged impartiality after some of its Middle East-based journalists appeared to justify the killing of Israeli civilians by Hamas in their social media posts, reported the Telegraph. The charges of bias come&nbsp;as a result of social media activity by several of the network's journalists in the Middle East that seemed to celebrate the attack by Hamas which left around 1,300 Israeli people dead. 
 
The report also mentions that the "corporation is 'urgently investigating' anti-Israel bias displayed by several of its taxpayer-funded journalists in the Middle East."

The controversy was sparked after several social media posts by BBC News Arabic reporters appeared to endorse&nbsp;comments that likened Hamas, a designated terrorist group, to freedom fighters. The journalists also referred to the Hamas attack on October 7 as a "morning of hope," reported the Telegraph.

One senior correspondent posted comments making fun of Israeli relatives of a grandmother who was abducted by Hamas. Another journalist tweeted that "Israel's prestige is crying in the corner."

Additionally, BBC Arabic has faced complaints about bias and inaccuracy in its output, particularly regarding its terminology in reference to towns within Israel's internationally recognised territory. The network has used terms like "settlements" and "settlers" for these areas and their residents, which some believe "whitewashes" the targeting of Jewish civilians.

Some of the journalists questioned the designation of Israeli non-combatants as civilians, despite evidence of indiscriminate attacks on women, children, and the elderly by Hamas. Some even suggested that young Israelis were essentially combatants.

In response to these allegations, the Telegraph has stated in its&nbsp;report that the BBC&nbsp;is "urgently investigating" the matter.&nbsp;

Renowned BBC presenter Stephen Nolan reportedly sent his fellow colleagues sexually explicit images of disgraced reality TV star Stephen Bear warning them to book him for his TV show Nolan Live, as per Irish News reports.

He allegedly also warned his production staff that he would share more pictures of Bear's genitals if they failed to book him.

As per the BBC website, the show Nolan Live is described as a "live, hard-hitting audience interactive series, in which Stephen Nolan tackles topical issues affecting Northern Ireland with lively debate and interesting guests."

Bear was sentenced to 21 months in prison earlier this year for revenge porn and voyeurism featuring his former girlfriend Georgia Harrison, who won $2,54,739 as a compensation amount from her abusive partner.

Nolan, who gets paid $5,09,594 a year, shared pictures of Bear’s penis in two separate texts, as per The Irish News.

In one of the messages leaked to the news outlet, Nolan had written, “I want Bear!” adding in another, "If I don't get Bear tomorrow night I'm sending more bear photos."

“While the specific outcome of the process is private and confidential to Stephen, I can confirm that appropriate action has been taken,” as per an internal document obtained by The Irish News.

Gregory Campbell DUP MP for East Londonderry released a statement saying that the Irish News story raises "significant questions for the corporation and Mr Nolan".

"The scale and significance of the revelations printed today, were they related to any other area of life in Northern Ireland, would undoubtedly be headline news across the BBC," he said.

"'Radio silence' just won't cut it however in this instance.

"There are significant multi-layered issues that have been highlighted and all of which deserve a full response from the BBC."

Adam Smyth, Director, BBC Northern Ireland said: "There are important considerations of fairness and confidentiality involved in the handling of any workplace-related complaint. We take these obligations seriously - and in the interests of everyone involved. The BBC confirmed on Friday that Vaughan would be a guest on the broadcaster's 'Today at the Test' highlights programme, initially for England's match against Ireland at Lord's from June 1. Vaughan will also be a summariser on the Test Match Special radio programme throughout the season, with England hosting Australia in five Ashes Tests.

Vaughan, England's 2005 Ashes-winning skipper, was cleared of an allegation that he had referred to a group of four Yorkshire players of Asian ethnicity, including Azeem Rafiq, as "you lot" before a T20 match against Nottinghamshire.

The CDC panel findings published on March 31 highlighted "significant inconsistencies" in evidence from two key witnesses -- Rafiq and Adil Rashid -- regarding the exact wording of Vaughan's alleged comment.

"I just burst out crying," Vaughan told the Telegraph in April.

"It was just the pure relief when your lawyer says you're cleared. There are people who wanted to see the back of me in cricket."

Michael Vaughan set for BBC return after being cleared over racism claim

British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) chairman Richard Sharp resigned on Friday (April 28) after an independent report found that he breached rules for public appointments in connection with a loan for former UK prime minister Boris Johnson. As he made announcement of his departure he said that he agreed to a request asking him to stay on until the end of June till his successor is chosen.

Sharp was under scanner from UK's public appointments watchdog which was investigating the way in which Sharp&nbsp;was selected by the government to chair BBC in the year 2021.

The report said that Sharp did breach the government's code for public appointments as he failed to disclose a potential conflict of interest. The report however, noted that the breach didn't necessarily invalidate Sharp's appointment.

But Sharp said staying until the end of his four year term would be a distraction from the broadcaster's "good work".

"I have decided that it is right to prioritise the interests of the BBC," Sharp said in a statement.

"I have therefore, this morning, resigned as the BBC chair to the Secretary of State and to the board."

"I would like to thank Adam Heppinstall (led inquiry) and and his team for the diligence and professionalism they have shown in compiling today's report. Mr. Heppinstall's view is that while I did breach the governance code for public appointments, he states very clearly that a breach does not necessarily invalidate an appointment.&nbsp;

Indeed, I've always maintained the breach was inadvertent and not material which the facts he lays out substantiate. The secretary of state has consulted with the BBC board who support that view.&nbsp;

Nevertheless, I have decided that it is right to prioritise the interest of the BBC. I feel that this matter may well be a distraction from the corporation's good work, where I to remain in post until the end of my term.&nbsp;

I have therefore this morning resigned as a BBC chair to the secretary of state and to the board. It was proposed to me that I stay on as chair until the end of June. While the process to appoint my successor is undertaken and I will of course do that in the interests of the corporation's stability and continuity."
