An uncharacteristically angry Lionel Messi revealed on Friday how he struggles to deal with criticism of his performances for Argentina's national team, saying that even his six-year-old son was questioning why he was judged so harshly in his country.

The 31-year-old's return to the national side last week after an eight-month absence was marred by a humiliating 3-1 loss to Venezuela in a friendly. A groin strain then forced him to sit out an unconvincing 1-0 victory over Morocco.

"My six year old son Thiago asked me why they were killing me in Argentina. He watches videos on YouTube all the time, and he asks me why they don't want me," Messi said.&nbsp;

"I have to go through those things, but it doesn't matter."

The Barcelona star took a break from international duty after a disappointing World Cup last year, but his highly anticipated return proved a flop as Argentina lost to unfancied Venezuela in Madrid.&nbsp;

"I want to win something with the national team, and I'll keep trying," Messi told Argentine radio station Radio Club October.

He said he would continue to play for his country even though "a lot of people told me not to do it, not to suffer again."

Argentine fans and journalists have often taken their frustrations at under-par performances by the national team out on Messi, who is always expected to perform at the levels he does for Barcelona, where he is surrounded by star players.

Messi hit out at repeated lies about him in the media.

"People buy into everything that's said. So then I'm the 'son of a bitch' and the ones that feel the hurt most of all is my family. There are many lies told. There are new lies every day."

Three out of every 10 minors in Argentina work for a living, but experts responding to that fact say the country is nonetheless in an excellent position to eliminate and prevent child labour with its defined public policies and under pressure from its international commitments.

"All cards are on the table in Argentina. I've been in this for many years and never saw a situation with so many opportunities," Gustavo Ponce, head of the prevention and eradication of child at the local chapter of the International Labor Organization (ILO), told EFE.

Among the reasons is the existence of official data that highlight the problem and an international movement with "concrete proposals" about the matter that will oblige every country to "give an accounting of its policies."

A move to improve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) promoted by the UN gave rise to the most successful campaign against poverty in history.

Ponce said that while the Latin American situation "might be more favourable" than that of other regions of the world, many challenges still lie ahead, since child labour "seems normal" in the South American country, even a source of pride in some communities.

The youngsters aren't chained up when they work, they're not the victims of mafias, they are - generally - minors from the lowest-income rural areas.

"We're not talking about kids in chains, we're talking about kids that get up at five o'clock in the morning to feed the animals and then walk an hour to school or have to stay home to take care of their little brothers and sisters because their dads have nowhere to leave them when they go to work," Ponce said.

In all, more than 760,000 children are victims of child labour in Argentina, according to the latest official data (2017).

The situation only gets worse for young people between ages 16-17, since Argentine law allows them to work as long as their jobs neither compete with their studies nor harm their development.

"Ignorance" of this regulation or its "legal loopholes" lead many teenagers to join the labour market in an informal way and under very poor conditions.

For Ponce, the local situation needs strengthening of provincial and municipal influence with the involvement of government, employers and families to make a real diagnosis and ensure, once again, that existing policies and legislation are obeyed.

Working along that line are those adhering to "Offside: drawing the line!" a technical collaboration among different key elements of the sector (governments, development agencies, NGOs), financed by the US Labor Department and which, over the next four years, will seek to end child labor forever in the Argentine farming sector.

The project particularly targets three provinces of the South American country - Buenos Aires, Mendoza and Santa Fe - and three productive sectors - garlic, tomatoes and cotton - all on the US child-labour blacklist.

"The idea is to identify what is currently happening on the land and in those different value chains, as well as the impact it can have in commercial terms," the director of the project in Argentina, Maria Eugenia Figueroa, told EFE.&nbsp;

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/search?q=Lionel+Messi">Lionel Messi</a> will start Friday's friendly against Venezuela in Madrid as he makes his return for Argentina following a self-imposed eight-month exile, coach Lionel Scaloni confirmed.

Scaloni said that Messi would line up alongside Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez and Atlanta United's Gonzalo Martinez in attack as he revealed his full starting team.

"It's a joy for me and for everyone that he's back," Scaloni told a news conference on Thursday.

"Now what remains is try and get the team to play along with him and get the best out of him. We're all very happy that he's back."

"It is the others who have to take that step so that Argentina can return to the level it had," added Scaloni, who replaced Jorge Sampaoli as coach following the last-16 defeat by France at the 2018 World Cup.

Messi has missed six friendlies since the tournament in Russia but many believe he will be an essential part of the team that travels to Brazil for the Copa America, which kicks off June 14.

"We have a way of playing and feeling football in these six games we've had. We're not going to change it, that (Messi) is coming is more incentive for us and another addition."

"We've played different systems and we're going to do it in the same way, added to his great quality," Scaloni added.

"But we need the rest, who are all top players and key figures at their clubs, to give us that bit extra to try and be a great team."

Scaloni refused to be drawn on whether Messi would also travel with the squad for next week's friendly against Morocco in Tangier, but said he would not risk the Barcelona forward's fitness.

The news that Messi would be involved for the game at Atletico Madrid's Wanda Metropolitano ground pleased Venezuela coach Rafael Dudamel.

"The presence of the best player in the world lifts the game's expectation," Dudamel said.

"For us to take on Argentina is a good way to see how we stack up. The return of Lionel Messi makes the demands on us extremely high."

Lionel Messi to start Venezuela friendly on Argentina return

Argentina captain <a href="https://www.wionews.com/search?q=lionel+messi">Lionel Messi</a> trained on Monday (March 18) with the national squad for the first time since last year's World Cup in Russia at Real Madrid's training centre in Madrid.

The Barcelona star will play in at least one of Argentina's friendlies against Venezuela and Morocco this month, coach Lionel Scaloni said on March 7.

The Barcelona forward has not played for his country since their last-16 exit at the hands of eventual champions France, opting to take a sabbatical after what was a disappointing tournament for the five-times Ballon d'Or winner.

Messi is Argentina's leading goal scorer with 65 goals but he is often criticised for not reproducing his club form for the national side.

Argentina, India on Monday came strong on the issue of terror on Monday. Argentina President Mauricio Macri is on a 3 day India visit and is the first foreign leader to visit India after the Pulwama terror attack last week that killed 40 CRPF personnel.

During the press statement, Argentinian President Mauricio Macri firmly condemned the Pulwama terror attack. He said, " I would like to pay my condolences to the victims of the cruel attack perpetrated just a few days ago. We firmly condemn, as we have done for the last 3 year. We condemn every terror attack. It goes against what we think should be health coexistence"&nbsp;

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also slammed terror and said, "terrorism is a threat to world peace and stability. Pulwama terror attack shows time for talks is over. He said the world should take strong action against terror and supporters of terror. "

He called on G20 countries to act on the issue of terror and take into account the 11 point agenda on counter-terror issued during the 2017 G20 Hamburg summit in Germany. The agenda called on G20 countries to exchange of suspected terrorist list, joint action against them among other things.

Remember both India and Argentina are members of powerful G20 grouping. Last year Argentina became the first South American country to host the G20 summit. During the Buenos Aires G20 summit, it was announced that India will host G20 in 2022.

Both also issued "India-Argentina Special declaration to Fight Terrorism". In the declaration leaders "gave a call that no country must allow their territory to be used to launch terrorist attacks on other countries" and without taking Pakistan's name said, "terrorist safe havens rooted out in every part of the world."

The declaration affirmed their support for a "U.N. Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism that will advance and strengthen the framework for global cooperation and reinforce the message that no cause or grievance justifies terrorism."

The Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism or CCIT has called for a common definition of terror but lack of consensus at the united nation is making it passage difficult at the multilateral body. The cabinet committee on security (CCS) which met in the aftermath of Pulwama attack on Friday has called for the formation of an India led global consensus on CCIT.

India and Argentina signed ten MoUs in several areas, including Defence, Tourism, pharmaceuticals, Civil nuclear and agriculture. An MoU was also signed on Cooperation in Antarctica.

Argentina President Macri arrives on 3-day visit to India

Argentine President Mauricio Macri will be visiting India on Sunday. The visit comes after PM Modi's visit to the South American country last year in November for the G20 Summit. Ahead of the visit, WION's diplomatic correspondent Sidhant Sibal spoke to Argentina's envoy to India Daniel Chuburu.&nbsp;

WION: How do you see bilateral ties with India?

Chuburu: As you know, this year is the 70th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between Argentina and India. So it is a great occasion to think about the relationship where it stands and where we are looking to go with all the partnership we have with India. Let me tell you, we are good friends with India, and have worked politically for many many years in a lot of different places. We firmly believe the potential our relations can achieve is not being done. We have small trade, concentrated in one product; we have to step up the relationship, strengthen it and step up on the quality of the relationship.&nbsp;

WION: What is the programme of the President?&nbsp;

Chuburu: The official programme is on February 18 when he is in Delhi. On February 19 he will be in Mumbai. First is a protocol visit, meeting with the PM, dinner with the President, lunch with the PM. In addition to that, a series of discussions between the two delegations will take place. We have to make a strategic partnership. Three issues will be discussed: One is sectoral agricultural on food security. One is in the field of energy, taking into consideration energy security. The third one is in cooperation with high technology. We will be discussing the agreement in the areas of defence, nuclear energy, in the peaceful use of outer space. The President will take part in the business forum.&nbsp;

WION: What is the focus area during the visit?&nbsp;

Chuburu: Common focus is to have a strategic partnership. We can't do anything about the distance (over 15,000kms) that separate both of the countries, that is the reality of life. We are working on an MoU on air services. We have to work on the quality of the relationship. &nbsp;

WION: You hosted G20, any suggestion for India?&nbsp;

Chuburu: We are at the disposal of India to share any kind of and all the experience that we have. When you have the summit you have 30 leaders visiting your country. Summit is just the last expression. Question is how you plan the whole year. It is a lot of work. India will do it pretty well, you have a lot of experience. There will be no problem.&nbsp;

A public vigil was held in a gymnasium in Progreso, the modest village in the province of Santa Fe which Sala left as a teenager to forge a career in Europe.

Sala's father, mother, sister and friends were seen arriving at the ceremony and dozens of local people filed in after them.

The 28-year-old died on January 21 just two days after completing a £15 million ($19.3 million) move to the Premier League club from French club Nantes.

The single-engine private plane carrying Sala and pilot David Ibbotson crashed in the English Channel near Alderney. Sala had been flying back to Wales after returning to France to say goodbye to his former teammates.

The <a href="http://www.wionews.com/sports/body-in-channel-wreckage-identified-as-footballer-sala-police-195900">player's body was recovered from the submerged wreckage</a> on February 7 but Ibbotson remains missing, with funds being raised to continue the search for the 59-year-old.

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock and the club's chief executive Neil Warnock and chief executive Ken Choo both travelled to Argentina to attend the ceremony.

Nantes, for whom Sala scored 42 goals in 120 league appearances, were represented by the defender Nicolas Pallois and general secretary Loic Morin.

Sala, a lanky striker, began his career at San Martin de Progreso, and the local club was at the centre of Saturday's ceremony.

"People will be able to pass by the coffin, leave a letter, a drawing or flowers," the club's president, Daniel Ribero, told AFP.

"He represented a lot for us. We're a small village and Emi was a celebrity, the only player to turn professional."

One mourner, Miguel Angel Pereira, 68, made the 70-kilometre (43-mile) journey from Santa Fe to pay his respects.

"I wanted to be here. I was a San Martin player myself in the 1960s," he said.

Inflation in Argentina rose to 49.3 per cent year-on-year in January, according to data released Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INDEC), a figure that even surpasses the 2018 figure of 47.6 per cent, setting a new record since 1991.

In the first month of the year, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 2.9 per cent a month, an acceleration compared to the 2.6 per cent recorded in December, but far from last September's peak, when inflation hit 6.5 per cent after the strong devaluation of the Argentine currency which triggered a rise in prices.

In the cumulative year-on-year, the rise for goods was 52 per cent, and 44.8 per cent for services, while in the monthly comparison goods rose by 2.6 per cent and services by 3.5 per cent.

Seasonal product prices rose by 33.2 per cent year-on-year, core inflation (excluding more volatile prices such as fuel) by 49.9 per cent and regulated prices (such as electricity or transport) by 55.4 per cent.

Compared to December, seasonal products became 1.1 per cent more expensive in January, core inflation was 3 per cent and regulated prices rose 3.4 per cent.

By sector, the largest year-on-year price increases were for transport (67.3 per cent), communication (63.7 percent), other goods and services (55.1 percent), food and non-alcoholic beverages (53 percent), household equipment and maintenance (52.5 percent), health (51.9 percent), housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (48.7 percent) and recreation and culture (43.5 percent).

For restaurants and hotels, the CPI rose by 40.1 per cent, for clothing and footwear by 33.3 per cent, for education by 32.1 per cent and for alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 29,7 per cent.

By geographical areas, Cuyo, in the west of the country, registered an inflation of 51.6 percent, Patagonia, in the south, 51.3 percent, in the northeast, 49.9 percent, in the northwest, 49.7 percent, in the Pampas region, 49.1 percent and in Buenos Aires and its metropolitan area, 48.9 percent.

On Thursday morning, the Argentine government announced that it expects inflation of around 28 per cent for this year, a figure projected by private consulting firms, which the Central Bank then releases every month.

The Secretary of Economic Policy, Miguel Braun, said that the government expects that in the coming months the rise of prices will remain "between two and three points" and will begin to fall in the second half of the year.

Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay are to submit a joint bid to host the 2030 World Cup, Chile's President Sebastian Pinera announced on Thursday.

Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay had already submitted a joint bid to host the centenary edition of football's most prestigious tournament, but Pinera said on Twitter that those countries' presidents had agreed to Chile's participation in the "joint candidacy".

Argentina and Uruguay originally announced their intention to submit a joint bid in 2017 before Paraguay joined the coalition later that year.

In December last year, Bolivia's football-mad president Evo Morales offered those three countries help in their bid, proposing "two or three departments as sub-seats" for the competition.

Had his offer been accepted, it would have meant the Hernando Siles Reyes stadium in La Paz potentially included as a host venue.

Pinera said he had been touting his idea to the presidents of Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay for several months.

Uruguay hosted and won the inaugural World Cup in 1930, Chile was the venue in 1962 and Argentina emulated its neighbor's achievement by lifting the trophy on home soil in 1978.

Like Morales, Mauricio Macri of Argentina, Uruguay's Tabare Vazquez and Paraguayan Mario Abdo Benitez are all passionate about football having all been president of a club in their countries.

Pinera is a billionaire businessman who started out as a teacher and has no previous connection to football.

The South American bid faces competition from Morocco and potentially several other joint bids, including one from Britain and Ireland and another by an eastern European confederation of Greece, Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania.

Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has even mooted a joint bid with Morocco, which has failed five times in bidding to host the World Cup, and Portugal.

Argentine football star Emiliano Sala's father Sunday was awakened from a sound sleep to learn that <a href="http://www.wionews.com/sports/footballer-emiliano-salas-missing-plane-found-claim-investigators-194908">the plane in which his son was probably killed, has been found.</a>

"I can't believe it. It's a bad dream," Horacio Sala said when contacted by Cronica TV at his home in Progreso.

He was the only one to stay behind in Argentina when the family rushed to Nantes, France to try to help with the search.

"I talk to them every day. But since I don't have WhatsApp it's expensive to call them or for them to call me. But anyway, they kept saying days were going by, and that there had been zero word on Emiliano, or on the plane," his father said.

Sala was travelling from France to join up with his new club, Premier League side Cardiff City, in a light aircraft on January 21 when it went missing close to the Channel Islands.

Suspected debris from the plane washed up on the Normandy coastline in France last Wednesday.

Sala was flying in the Piper PA-46 Malibu plane after transferring from French team Nantes in a 17 million euro ($19.3 million) move.

Top footballers were among more than 4,500 contributors to a crowd funding page that raised over 300,000 euros ($343,000) to look for the wreck.

Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni is hopeful for <a href="http://www.wionews.com/search?q=lionel+messi">Lionel Messi</a>'s possible return to international football after the <a href="http://www.wionews.com/sports/hosts-brazil-face-peru-venezuela-bolivia-in-copa-america-192703">Copa America 2019</a> group draw at Cidade das Artes in Rio de Janeiro.&nbsp;

Messi took a sabbatical from the national side after disappointing World Cup and now Argentina are desperate to end a trophy drought that dates back to 1993 when they last won the Copa America.&nbsp;

Messi has not said whether he will return for the Copa America in Brazil in June but the interim coach said at the draw that he was hopeful the inspiring forward might return for a March friendly.&nbsp;

"Well, for now, obviously, he hasn't been here. I can't be thinking about something that we don't know how it will go. Like I said in my last interview, hopefully, he could be," Argentina coach Scaloni commented on Messi's return.&nbsp;

Scaloni added, "I will have a chat with him before giving the final list of players, talk to him. We have good feelings."&nbsp;

The draw gave Argentina the toughest path of the top-seeded teams as it was placed in a group with Colombia, Paraguay and guest nation Qatar.&nbsp;

"Uruguay's group (C) is not easy as well. If you take a look, Chile is a tough opponent. I believe you will always look for a 'but' if something happens," said Scaloni.&nbsp;

"Honestly, it is a complicated competition, to play in South America is complicated and it's not worthy to look behind. May the future bring positive things," he added.&nbsp;

The top two teams in each group, plus the two best third-place finishers, qualify for the quarterfinals.

Argentina's President Mauricio Macri will be visiting India from February 17. The visit comes months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Argentina for the G20 Summit and met the Argentine&nbsp;president.&nbsp;

During the visit, PM Modi addressed a Yoga event stating, "There is a distance of 15 thousand kilometres between India and Argentina. We have two vast oceans and continents between the two countries. The time difference between the two countries is 8 hours and 30 minutes. But your Yoga practice has shown that both India and Argentina have respect for each other’s culture and the distance of thousands of kilometres between both countries is nothing but just a figure."

PM Modi first met Macri on the sidelines of G20 Summit in Hangzhou, China in 2016. There are around 2,400 Indians living in Argentina, most of them are Non-Resident Indians living in the capital city, Buenos Aires.

The majority of Indians belong to the Sindhi community while others are professionals working with Indian companies and multinational corporations such as TCS, Cognizant Technologies.&nbsp;

It is interesting to note that about 300 Sikhs from Punjab had settled down in 7 Salta province of Argentina in the course of the early and mid-twentieth century. Over time, they have assimilated in the local population and become Argentine citizens.

Most of them are in retail and wholesale trade. A Gurudwara has been established in the Argentine town of Rosario de la Frontera, where Guru Nanak Day is celebrated every year.

Will Calnan made it 2-1 for England before Peillat drew parity in the 48th minute.

Earlier, realising that slow pace is not helping them, England raised their tempo and that paid dividends as they earned their first penalty corner in the 11th minute.

Luke Taylor's effort from the resultant set-piece earned them another penalty corner immediately but Argentina defended stoutly to keep their rivals at bay.

Argentina secured its first penalty corner in the 17th minute and drag-flick expert Peillat scored with a powerful flick to take the lead.

While Argentina players were celebrating, England almost equalised with a brisk counter-attack only for David Condon to miss a sitter.

Thereafter, the Los Leones surprisingly adopted a defensive approach and that worked in England's favour.

Mark Gleghorne's fine run down from the right flank and his subsequent cross was cleared by England defenders which laid in front of an unmarked

Middleton, who slotted home with a powerful shot past goalkeeper Juan Vivaldi to level the scores.

Buoyed by the equaliser, England went on the offensive but failed to get past Argentina's crowded defence.

Argentina, on the other hand, adopted a wait and watch policy to launch counter-attacks.

But it was not to be as England striker Zachary Wallace made an impressive run into the Argentine circle and was brought down inside, which earned the Los Leones back-to-back penalty corners but they wasted both.

In the last quarter, Argentina equalised through Peillat's penalty corner conversion before Martin struck a minute later with a field strike to hand England the unexpected winner.

In the encounter, it was the Black Sticks who had the first shy at the goal in the sixth minute but Hugo Inglis strike from close range was saved by Spain captain and goalkeeper Quico Cortes. 📸 | Glimpses from the tightly-fought game between @rfe_hockey and @BlackSticks!#HWC2018 #Odisha2018 pic.twitter.com/TqCKNl0YBp — Hockey World Cup 2018 - Host Partner (@sports_odisha) December 6, 2018 × Meanwhile, Olympic champions Argentina are at top of Pool A with six points from two wins. Hockey World Cup 2018: New Zealand hold Spain to 2-2 draw, qualify for cross-overs

Argentina displayed a brilliant game of hockey to beat New Zealand 3-0 to inch closer towards a direct quarterfinal spot at the men's hockey World Cup on Monday.

Argentina scored thrice through Agustin Mazzilli (23rd), Lucas Villa (41st) and Lucas Martinez (55th) to pocket full three points from the Pool A encounter at the Kalinga Stadium.

By virtue of two wins from as many games, Argentina are atop Pool A with six points and they have brightened their chances of a direct berth in the last eight round.

New Zealand are at the second place with three points from two games ahead of Spain and France, both of whom have one point each.

Argentina had earlier defeated Spain 4-3 in their tournament opener while New Zealand had beaten France 2-1.

While Argentina will play world number 20 France in their last pool match on December 6, New Zealand will be up against Spain.

Argentina started the proceedings on a bright note and got the first scoring opportunity of the match in the fifth minute in the form of a penalty corner but they wasted the chance.

Barring this, it was a dull opening quarter which witnessed a midfield slugfest.

A minute into the second quarter, Argentina came close to taking the lead but Lucas Villa's try from close range was kept away by New Zealand goalkeeper Richard Joyce.

New Zealand got their first opportunity in the 18th minute when they were awarded a penalty corner but Kane Russell's flick was saved by Argentina custodian Juan Vivaldi.

Seven minutes from half time, the Los Leones finally broke the shackles when Mazzilli scored his third goal of the tournament.

An inch-perfect defence-splitting pass from Gonzalo Peillat found Mazzilli unmarked inside the New Zealand box and the striker first controlled the ball and then sent it crashing into board with a reverse hit.

That was all the first two quarters produced as Argentina went into the halfway break with a slender one goal lead.

Argentina continued their dominance after the breather and secured two penalty corners in the first five minutes of the third quarter but drag-flicker Peillat witnessed an off day in office on Monday.

But it did not take too long for Argentina to extend their lead through Villa, who slotted home in the 41st minute after snatching the ball inside the box from the sticks of New Zealand skipper Blair Tarrant.

Trailing by two goals, New Zealand pressed hard in the fourth and final quarter and secured their second penalty corner but the Black Sticks made a mess of the chance.

Five minutes from the final hooter, Argentina got their fourth penalty corner and Martinez scored from a rebound to shut the doors on New Zealand.&nbsp;

The G20 (or Group of Twenty) is an international forum for the governments and central bank governors from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the European Union, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The G20 is a self-appointed group whose composition is determined by the major countries and powers.

G20 consists of 19 individual countries plus the European Union (EU).

Collectively, the G20 economies account for around 90% of the gross world product (GWP), 80% of world trade (or, if excluding EU intra-trade, 75%), two-thirds of the world population,&nbsp;and approximately half of the world land area. It seeks to address issues that go beyond the responsibilities of any one organization, but still, the G20's membership policies have been criticized by numerous intellectuals. G20 is an initiative aiming at international coordination of economic policy. &nbsp;Summit themes varies from year to year.&nbsp;

HISTORY&nbsp;

Canadian finance minister Paul Martin was chosen as the first chairman and German finance minister Hans Eichel hosted the inaugural meeting in 1999 in Berlin. The group was founded primarily at the initiative of Eichel, the concurrent chair of the G7, as per 2004 report by Colin I. Bradford and Johannes F. Linn of the Brookings Institution.

However, Bradford later described &nbsp;Paul Martin as "the crucial architect of the formation of the G-20 at finance minister level," and as the one who later "proposed that the G-20 countries move to leaders level summits."

Canadian academic and journalistic sources have also identified the G20 a project initiated by Martin and then-US Treasury Secretary Larry Summers. But Germany and the United States played a key role in bringing their vision into reality.
The G20's primary focus has been governance of the global economy.

MEMBERS&nbsp;

As of 2017, there are 20 members of the group. These include leaders of 19 countries, and of European Union and, at the ministerial-level meetings, the finance ministers and central bank governors of 19 countries and of the European Union.
In addition each year, the G20's guests include Spain; the Chair of ASEAN; two African countries and a country (sometimes more than one) invited by the presidency, usually from its own region, and office holders of United Nation, World Bank &nbsp;Group and World Trade Organisation.&nbsp;

G20 AGENDA

Initially, G20 was set up for global economic coordination but over the years it has widened up its agenda. After the adoption of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement in 2015, more "issues of global significance" were added to the G20 agenda: migration, digitisation, employment, healthcare, the economic empowerment of women and development aid.

CRITICISM&nbsp;

&nbsp;Although G20 group has a high degree of legitimacy and influence over the management of the global economy and financial system due to broad membership and economic weight. G20 group's legitimacy has been challenged.

In a 2010 interview with Der Spiegel, the Norwegian foreign minister Jonas Gahr Støre called the G20 "one of the greatest setbacks since World War II."
The G20's transparency and accountability have been questioned by critics.&nbsp;

The cost and extent of summit-related security is often a contentious issue in the hosting country, and G20 summits have attracted protesters from a variety of backgrounds, including information activists, opponents of fractional-reserve banking and anti-capitalists. In 2010, the Toronto G20 summit sparked mass protests and rioting, leading to the largest mass arrest in Canada's history. Critics also point out at the disproportionate representation of African countries&nbsp;

ACHIEVEMENTS&nbsp;

G20 provides a platform to discuss all issues that affect the world. Its major achievement includes quick deployment of emergency funding during the 2008 global financial crisis.&nbsp;

2018 G20 BUENOS AIRES SUMMIT

The thirteenth meeting of Group Of Twenty was held from 30 November till 1 December 2018 in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. &nbsp;It was the first G20 summit to be hosted in South America.

G20 Argentina had put forth three agenda priorities for the G20 dialogue in 2018: the future of work, infrastructure for development and a sustainable food future.
A number of attending countries also focused on the regulation of crypto-currencies at this meeting. International trade was also one of the priorities of the thirteenth G20 Summit.&nbsp;

The 13 G20 Summit ended with a number of big outcomes such as<a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/g20s-big-outcomes-india-to-host-g20-in-2022-trump-xis-trade-truce-181018"> India being as the host for G20 in 2022 </a>and Trump-Xi truce in the ongoing trade war.&nbsp;
On Global outcomes, <a href="http://www.wionews.com/world/at-g20-dinner-trump-calls-relationship-with-xi-very-special-180799">US president and Chinese President </a>met for almost two-and-a-half hours on a working dinner.&nbsp;

Trump &amp; Xi have also agreed to "immediately" begin negotiations on "structural changes" with respect to forced technology transfer, intellectual property protection, non-tariff barriers, cyber intrusions and cyber theft, services and agriculture. Both agreed that this will be completed within the next 90 days.&nbsp;

G20 nations also agreed on reforming WTO

What does the G20 do ?

The troubled <a href="http://www.wionews.com/search?q=Copa+Libertadores">Copa Libertadores</a> final between Argentina's two biggest clubs ran into more problems on Saturday when <a href="http://www.wionews.com/search?q=River+Plate">River Plate</a> said they rejected the decision to face <a href="http://www.wionews.com/search?q=boca+juniors">Boca Juniors</a> in Madrid in the postponed second leg.

In the latest twist to the saga, River, the home team, said it was "incomprehensible" that the fixture should be played outside Argentina, although the club stopped short of saying they would refuse to play.

The hugely-anticipated match at River Plate's Monumental stadium in Buenos Aires was called off on Nov. 24 after the Boca team bus was attacked with stones and bottles as it approached the ground.

Several players were hit by shattered glass and some were affected by tear gas or pepper spray.

The match was rescheduled for the following day but was again postponed. The first leg in Boca's stadium had ended 2-2 one week earlier.

On Thursday the South American Football Confederation CONMEBOL announced the decision to move the game to Real Madrid's Bernabeu stadium on Dec. 9.

"River Plate reject the change of venue," the club said in a statement, adding that moving the game to Madrid "adversely affects those who bought tickets and also upsets the idea of equal conditions by taking away home advantage".

However, River did not say what action they would take if CONMEBOL stood by its decision.

River were fined $400,000 for the incidents and ordered to play their next two home matches in South American club competition behind closed doors. However, Boca have said they will appeal against the decision which they consider too lenient.

CONMEBOL ignored the appeals on Saturday and released information on ticket sales but although each team have been allocated 25,000, they must sell most of that allowance to fans outside Argentina.

"For security reasons local authorities have decided to give each team 5,000 tickets to sell to their fans in Argentina," CONMEBOL said.

The other 20,000 could be sold only to fans living abroad, CONMEBOL said in a statement. The teams must provide lists of the 5,000 names who buy the Argentina allowance.

Boca themselves were thrown out of the Libertadores in 2015 after River players were attacked with pepper spray by fans at halftime during the second leg of a knockout tie at the Bombonera stadium. Boca say they want the same standards to apply to River.

River said the attack on the bus happened outside the area which was considered the club's responsibility.

"The responsibility for the failure of the security operation was openly accepted by the highest authorities of the state," it said.

"It's incomprehensible that the most important fixture in Argentine football cannot take place in the country which is hosting the G20.

"Argentine football as a whole... cannot allow a handful of thugs to stop the Superclasico from taking place in our country."

It is the first time that the two clubs have met in the final of the competition, which is the South American equivalent of the Champions League.

From next season onwards, the final will be played in a single match at a neutral venue - a decision which CONMEBOL had already taken before last month's trouble.
