The hearing into Manchester City's 115 alleged breaches of Premier League financial regulations will begin on Monday, according to ESPN.

City were referred to an independent commission over the alleged breaches, which go back to the 2009-10 campaign, in February 2023. The club allegedly breached rules relating to the provision of accurate financial information.

City are also charged with failing to comply with Premier League rules requiring clubs to follow UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations from the 2013-14 to 2017-18 seasons and failing to follow Premier League rules on profit and sustainability (PSR) from the 2015-16 to 2017-18 seasons.

The club, who won an unprecedented fourth successive top-flight title in May, said at the time of the referral to the commission that they were surprised by the league's "issuing of these alleged breaches".

"The club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position," City added.

Sources told ESPN the hearing is set to begin on Sept. 16 and is expected to last about two months with a final verdict, including any appeal, to be reached by the end of the season.

City could face penalties such as a points deduction or relegation if found guilty.

Everton and Nottingham Forest had points deducted last season for breaching PSR regulations.

Manchester City were not immediately available to comment, while the Premier League declined to comment.

The ICC is funding Zimbabwe Cricket to construct a new multi-sport stadium near the scenic Victoria Falls, a tourist hotspot in the country. Per the latest reports, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently laid the foundation stone for a 10,000-seater cricket stadium, which, once ready, will be the most picturesque venue in the world.

Set to be named Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium, this new ground will host several global events in 2026 and 2027, as Zimbabwe will co-host the 2026 Under-19 World Cup with Namibia, while South Africa will join the two nations in staging the 2027 ODI World Cup.

As reported by Cricbuzz, the government has allocated 10 hectares of land for this project, the construction cost of which will vary between $5 and $10 million. The ICC, however, said they will not provide any extra funding for any specific project beyond this.&nbsp;

This newly-built stadium will be a multi-sport facility and host several sports like rugby, hockey and netball.

"The location of this stadium in this city will undoubtedly contribute to the speedy attainment of tourism sector targets and towards our national development aspirations as outlined in the National Development Strategy Vision 2030," President Mnangagwa said while laying the foundation stone.

<h2>Time for an upgrade</h2>

After admitting that their stadiums are not up to the international stature, President Mnangagwa vows to provide the fans with a world-class experience by putting in extra yards in preparation for this new stadium.

"As Zimbabwe Cricket, we are the first to admit that our stadiums are no longer adequate, we had to lock out some fans during the 2023 World Cup Qualifiers, but that's not what we want to do. We want to have as many people to access our grounds, and we want their experience to be awesome when they come into the grounds."

"So, work is already underway, and as you are aware, we will be co-hosting the 2027 men's World Cup, and before that, we are also hosting the next edition of the Under 19 World Cup together with Namibia, so these are massive tournaments and we are working to improve our facilities for more global tournaments," ZC media and communication manager Darlington Majonga was quoted in the Coliseum website as saying.

"Work is progressing very well, a lot of earthmoving has been happening. The levelling of the academy pitch and the main pitch is progressing very well. The facility has been fenced, a site establishment has also been done, boreholes have been drilled, and a water reservoir has also been established. There is good progress so far, we are impressed by what is on the ground," ZC managing director Givemore Makoni was quoted in an FB post recently.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Cricket is undergoing its lowest phase. After failing to qualify for the 2019 and 2023 World Cup, Zimbabwe lost their 2024 T20 World Cup (in the Americas) spot to a far-lower-ranked team, Uganda. &nbsp;

Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur was charged by the Football Association on Thursday over an alleged misconduct breach for a remark made on Uruguayan TV about team-mate Son Heung-min.

The Uruguay international had been asked in June by the host of the Canal 10 show for a Spurs player's shirt, to which he replied: "Sonny's? It could be Sonny's cousin too as they all look the same."

British anti-discrimination charity Kick It Out said it had received a "significant number" of complaints related to the comment.

Bentancur apologised to the South Korea international and Spurs skipper, who said his team-mate had "made a mistake".

A statement from the FA said Bentancur had been charged with an alleged breach of its rules in relation to a media interview.

"It's alleged that the Tottenham midfielder has breached FA Rule E3.1 as he acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words and/or brought the game into disrepute," the statement said.

"It's further alleged that this constitutes an 'aggravated breach' which is defined in FA Rule E3.2, as it included a reference, whether express or implied, to nationality and/or race and/or ethnic origin."

Bentancur has until September 19 to provide a response to the charge.

Former Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani was banned for three games and fined £100,000 ($130,000) in 2020 for using the Spanish term "negrito" (small black person) in a social media post.

Jharkhand keeper-batter Ishan Kishan’s strange inclusion in the India C Duleep Trophy second-round playing XI on Thursday (Sep 12) puzzled cricket fans and the internet. Days after the BCCI released an official statement informing everyone of Kishan’s groin injury he suffered during the Buchi Babu Tournament, the out-of-favour India batter was named in the playing XI for India C against India B at Rural Development Trust Stadium B in Anantapur. The BCCI dodged an explanation on the same.

Kishan was named in the India D squad for the Duleep Trophy first round; however, following his injury, he got ruled out, with the BCCI naming Sanju Samson as his replacement.&nbsp;

What further led to confusion was when the BCCI announced in its media release that no changes were made to the India C squad.&nbsp;

<h2>Kishan’s fallout with BCCI</h2>

Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were part of Team India’s final 15 for the home World Cup last year, with both getting their chances in the XI in the showpiece event. Though Kishan got limited outings to impress the selectors and press his case for a permanent top-order spot, Iyer’s performance spoke for him.

However, following the heartbreak against Australia in the finale, Kishan and Iyer were named on the white-ball squads for the upcoming South Africa tour. Mid-way into the series, Kishan asked the board to send him home, citing personal issues.

Soon after, the board urged the centrally-contracted players, not picked for any India series, to make them available for the Ranji Trophy group and knockout matches. Both Iyer, who was out with a persistent back injury, and Kishan didn’t abide by the BCCI orders, leading to the board scrapping their names from the central contract for the upcoming season.

Both were overlooked for the T20 World Cup in the Americas, which India won, but the BCCI picked Iyer for the Sri Lanka ODIs later in July. Even at that time, there were no signs of Ishan Kishan making his India comeback.

As things stand, the BCCI is yet to include both in the central contract lists, with their India future hanging in limbo.

Meanwhile, Ishan completed a hundred for India C.&nbsp;

Duleep Trophy second round: BCCI dodges explanation on Ishan Kishan’s ‘strange inclusion’ in India C team

Plenty of other on-field stuff outside of cricket has made headlines over the years, but rarely did a team or a player get punished for using a wider bat. One of these incidents happened when Essex batter Feroze Khushi's bat failed the mandatory equipment dimension check after the second innings against Nottinghamshire in April this year, which his team won by 254 runs.

The Cricket Discipline Commission (CDC) Panel punished Essex by docking them 12 points after they gained 20 following their massive win.&nbsp;

That, however, ended their hopes of winning the Championship this year.&nbsp;

The point deduction leaves Essex 56 points behind Surrey – the Division One leaders, with two matches remaining following the current round.

Per a report in BBC Sport, the CDC panel also warned Essex to deduct half of their available match points in any competition should their player commit the same offence within two years.&nbsp;

Although Essex appealed against the original charges, saying they raised concerns with Khushi’s bat manufacturer, Gray-Nicolls, about inconsistency around tools used to measure bats (called gauges), that was dismissed quickly.

<h2>Trust broken</h2>

Essex batter Feroze Khushi admitted not checking his bats for conformity before using them ahead of the ongoing season and instead trusted the bat manufacturer to abide by the measurements laid.

Though the panel reprimanded the 25-year-old, Feroze admitted he never intended to use the non-conforming bat.

"Essex CCC regrets the outcome and, although disappointed with the appeal decision and subsequent sanctions, accepts the charges of the CDC panel," a club statement said.

"The club remains fully committed to upholding the integrity of the game and ensuring strict compliance with all relevant regulations moving forward."

"In light of the concerns raised during the appeal, the club will be writing to the CDC, Cricket Regulator and the England &amp; Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to formally highlight the matters which arose during the process, such as those raised by the club in relation to the bat gauges.

"Essex CCC hopes that these concerns will prompt action to address inconsistencies and enhance the fairness and transparency of future regulatory processes."

Meanwhile, two years ago, Durham was deducted 10 points after their batter, Nic Maddinson, was found to be using an oversized bat. Elsewhere, Derbyshire was handed a two-point sanction in the One Day Cup the same season when Mattie McKiernan was found using the oversized bat.&nbsp;

According to the laws of the game, a bat's width cannot be more than 10.8 cm, the depth cannot be more than 6.7 cm, and the edges cannot exceed 4 cm. The bats must also pass a bat-gauge test.

The Cricket Discipline Commission (CDC) Panel punished Essex by docking them 12 points after they gained 20 following their massive win. That, however, ended their hopes of winning the Championship this year. The point deduction leaves Essex 56 points behind Surrey – the Division One leaders, with two matches remaining following the current round. ALSO READ: Not Fraser-McGurk, but selectors pin hope on Matthew Short to fill Warner’s shoes in ODIs, T20Is Per a report in BBC Sport, the CDC panel also warned Essex to deduct half of their available match points in any competition should their player commit the same offence within two years. Although Essex appealed against the original charges, saying they raised concerns with Khushi’s bat manufacturer, Gray-Nicolls, about inconsistency around tools used to measure bats (called gauges), that was dismissed quickly. Trust broken Essex batter Feroze Khushi admitted not checking his bats for conformity before using them ahead of the ongoing season and instead trusted the bat manufacturer to abide by the measurements laid. Though the panel reprimanded the 25-year-old, Feroze admitted he never intended to use the non-conforming bat. "Essex CCC regrets the outcome and, although disappointed with the appeal decision and subsequent sanctions, accepts the charges of the CDC panel," a club statement said. "The club remains fully committed to upholding the integrity of the game and ensuring strict compliance with all relevant regulations moving forward." "In light of the concerns raised during the appeal, the club will be writing to the CDC, Cricket Regulator and the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to formally highlight the matters which arose during the process, such as those raised by the club in relation to the bat gauges. "Essex CCC hopes that these concerns will prompt action to address inconsistencies and enhance the fairness and transparency of future regulatory processes." Meanwhile, two years ago, Durham was deducted 10 points after their batter, Nic Maddinson, was found to be using an oversized bat. Elsewhere, Derbyshire was handed a two-point sanction in the One Day Cup the same season when Mattie McKiernan was found using the oversized bat. According to the laws of the game, a bat's width cannot be more than 10.8 cm, the depth cannot be more than 6.7 cm, and the edges cannot exceed 4 cm. The bats must also pass a bat-gauge test. Since David Warner’s international retirement, rookie opener Jake Fraser-McGurk was expected to be his replacement in the shorter formats; however, the selectors are not too convinced with him at the moment, with all-rounder Matthew Short pressing his case for a permanent spot at the top. Following his superb outing against England in the first T20I on Wednesday (Sep 11), where he scored 41 off 26 balls, Short cleared his intentions of filling Warner’s shoes in the ODIs and T20Is.

Despite Short missing the Scotland T20Is for the birth of his first child, McGurk failed to deliver at the top, registering 17 dots in 23 balls faced.&nbsp;

The lanky all-rounder, however, admitted knowing about opening with Travis Head a night before the first game against England, which Australia won by 28 runs.

Vinesh Phogat recalled her disqualification ahead of her gold medal match in the 53kg freestyle wrestling final in the Paris Olympics and slammed Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha for offering no support. Vinesh was disqualified before her gold medal bout for being marginally overweight. Thus, she&nbsp;was admitted to a poly-clinic in the Olympics village, where Usha visited her and was seen interacting with the Indian wrestler (who has now joined politics). However, Vinesh, in a recent interaction, claimed that Usha visited her but offered no support and even clicked a picture without informing her.

During a chat with a&nbsp;local news channel, Vinesh said, "I don't know what support I got there. PT Usha madam visited me at the hospital. Otherwise a lot of people are saying 'don't leave wrestling'. For what should I continue? There is politics everywhere."

US soccer icon Alex Morgan bids emotional farewell in retirement match - WATCH

Newly-crowned US Open champion Jannik Sinner admitted Sunday that the controversy over his two failed drugs tests "was and is still on my mind". The 23-year-old Italian defeated Taylor Fritz in straight sets to win his second Grand Slam title to add to his first in Australia in January.

However, his path to victory was accompanied by questions over the affair which saw him twice test positive for banned substance clostebol in March. He escaped a lengthy ban when the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) found he was not guilty of wrongdoing after he had been inadvertently contaminated by his physio.

The Italian sacked physio Giacomo Naldi and trainer Umberto Ferrara, citing a loss of confidence in them.

The decision to clear the Italian was met with scepticism by some players in the locker room who suggested that Sinner had benefitted from preferential treatment due to his status in the sport.

"It was and it's still on my mind. It's not that it's gone, but when I'm on the court, I try to focus about the game, I try to handle the situation the best possible way, communication with the team, in the practice courts," said the world number one.

"It was not easy, that's for sure, but I tried to stay focused, with which I guess I've done a great job."

Sinner admitted that the case had cast a cloud over him but he believes that fans and most players have been supportive.

"Obviously, it was very difficult for me to enjoy in certain moments," he added.

"Also how I behaved or how I walked on the court in certain tournaments before, it was not the same as I used to be, so whoever knows me better, they know that something was wrong.

"But during this tournament, slowly I restarted to feel a little bit more how I am as a person. Doesn't really matter how or what the result was. So this tournament, for sure, helped me a little bit."

Despite the controversy, Sinner is enjoying a stellar season.

He has captured six titles, racking up 55 wins against just five losses.

His triumph on Sunday allowed him become the first man since Guillermo Vilas in 1977 to win his first two Grand Slam titles in the same season.

Sinner believes that Sunday's win in New York has more impact on him than his Australian Open breakthrough.

"Melbourne was a kind of a relief because you never know if you can win one Grand Slam or not, but when you win one, you know that you can do it," he said. "Here it was difficult because also the pre-tournament circumstances weren't easy. I felt like that I have grown match by match and that my confidence level went higher and higher at some point.

"It was different because I had more pressure this time than in Australia. I'm happy how I handled this one. Yeah, I'm just excited to have this trophy with me."

Jannik Sinner admits ‘thinking about drug controversy’ in US Open triumph

Portugal substitute Cristiano Ronaldo struck a late winner as his side came from a goal down to beat Scotland 2-1 and continue their strong start to the Nations League on Sunday. After Bruno Fernandes had fired in Portugal's equaliser, Ronaldo pounced in the 88th minute for his 901st career goal.

Scotland were given hope of a first win against Portugal since 1980 as they took a shock lead through Scott McTominay's bullet header in the seventh minute.

But the visitors ended up with nothing to show for their efforts as 39-year-old Ronaldo again delivered for his country.

"The influence is always the same, regardless of whether he starts on the bench or not," Fernandes, who played his 600th career game, said of his former Manchester United teammate.

"Everyone who came on made the difference. Cristiano has a goal, today he scored 901 and now he's on his way to a thousand, which is what he wants."

Portugal lead League A Group 1 with six points after they started with a victory over Croatia, who are second on three following a 1-0 win against Poland on Sunday. Scotland have suffered two defeats, both of them to late goals.

<h2>McTominay Strikes</h2>

The Scots arrived in Lisbon still stinging from a 3-2 home defeat by Poland but the travelling Tartan Army were soon in full voice in the Estadio da Luz as former Manchester United midfielder McTominay arrived at the back post to power home a superb cross by Kenny McLean.

Portugal responded to lay siege to Scotland's goal but keeper Angus Gunn made a string of saves, one a world-class effort to keep out Rafael Leao's low drive.

The hosts had 15 goal attempts before the break but were left frustrated as Scotland dug deep to protect their lead.

Gunn was beaten in the 54th minute though as the ball was pulled back to Fernandes whose shot was well-struck but probably should have been kept out by the Scotland keeper.

Portugal seemed to have run out of steam but found another gear late on with Joao Felix twice being denied by superb Gunn saves and Ronaldo heading against the inside of the post.

Inevitably, however, Ronaldo stole the limelight with a simple tap-in from a wicked delivery by Nuno Mendes.

Scotland looked crestfallen as they soaked up another late disappointment in a winless run of eight competitive matches.

What is more, they have conceded in the 85th minute or later in five of their last six games in all competitions.

"Obviously disappointed -- it looked for a long period that we'd get something from the game," Scotland manager Steve Clarke said. "The effort and the quality the players put in, they deserved to get something."

ALSO READ: Tennis: Jannik Sinner crashes Taylor Fritz's American party to win US Open 2024 "The influence is always the same, regardless of whether he starts on the bench or not," Fernandes, who played his 600th career game, said of his former Manchester United teammate. "Everyone who came on made the difference. Cristiano has a goal, today he scored 901 and now he's on his way to a thousand, which is what he wants." Portugal lead League A Group 1 with six points after they started with a victory over Croatia, who are second on three following a 1-0 win against Poland on Sunday. Scotland have suffered two defeats, both of them to late goals. McTominay Strikes The Scots arrived in Lisbon still stinging from a 3-2 home defeat by Poland but the travelling Tartan Army were soon in full voice in the Estadio da Luz as former Manchester United midfielder McTominay arrived at the back post to power home a superb cross by Kenny McLean. "The effort and the quality the players put in, they deserved to get something." Disclaimer: This story has been published from a news agency feed with minimal edits to adhere to WION's style guide. Nations League: Cristiano Ronaldo's 901st career goal sees Portugal through vs Scotland

Jannik Sinner produced a brutal display of baseline power as he became the first Italian man to win the U.S. Open with a 6-3 6-4 7-5 win over American Taylor Fritz in the final on Sunday.

Sinner held aloft his arms in celebration after breaking Fritz to clinch the title and cheers rang around Arthur Ashe Stadium, even though home fans had hoped to see Fritz end a 21-year U.S. men's Grand Slam drought.

Sinner was under a cloud of controversy at the start of the tournament after revelations that he tested positive twice for an anabolic agent in March but avoided a ban. An independent tribunal accepted his claim that the positive tests were the result of an unintentional contamination.

The top seed blocked out the furore in New York and with the win claimed his second Grand Slam title after winning the Australian Open earlier this year.

"We just went day-by-day, trying to practice well, even on the days off, believing in ourselves which is the most important. I understood, especially in this tournament, how important the mental part is in this sport," said Sinner.

"I would like to thank everyone for being so fair in this amazing arena. It was a huge pleasure."

Fritz got off to a dreadful start when he handed Sinner the break with an unforced error in the first game but settled his nerves, breaking back in the fourth game and surviving a 23-shot rally - the longest of the match - to save break point in the fifth.

But it was only a matter of time before the Italian would hit his stride and he broke the 12th seeded American with a perfectly placed drop shot in the seventh game.

Fritz dropped his serve again on set point when he sent a backhand beyond the baseline, one of 34 unforced errors that cost him dearly across the match.

The fired up home crowd that included pop megastar Taylor Swift tried to lift Fritz with chants of "USA!" in the second set, as he worked to get some traction in his first major final.

<h2>Piled on the misery</h2>

However, the momentum swung in Sinner’s direction as he broke Fritz on set point from the baseline, sending a sublime backhand down the line that the American was unable to return.

He piled further misery on Fritz when he clawed back from triple break point down in the opening game of the third set, holding his serve with an overhead smash, a fine effort that even the U.S. fans applauded.

Fritz clung on and even went up a break but was left smacking his racket onto the court in frustration when he hit a volley into the net to let Sinner break back in the 10th.

Sinner broke for a sixth time in the contest to wrap up the win, with Fritz swiping a forehand into the net on match point.

"Here was difficult because also the pretournament circumstances weren't easy," said Sinner, who climbed the stands to celebrate with his team as fans shouted "Bravo!" around him.

"I felt like that I have grown, you know, match by match and that my confidence level went higher and higher."

With U.S. great Andre Agassi on court for the presentation ceremony, Fritz told the crowd: "I know we’ve been waiting for a champion for a long time so I’m sorry I couldn’t get it done this time. But I’m gonna keep working and hopefully I’ll get it the next time."

It was a fresh disappointment for U.S. fans, after home hope Jessica Pegula lost to Aryna Sabalenka in the women's final.

The win capped a blockbuster year for Sinner, who came back from two sets down to triumph at Melbourne Park and won in Miami and Cincinnati.

The world number one leaves New York with an impressive 55-5 win-loss record for the year, leaving rivals in his wake as Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz crashed out early.

It was not all good news for Sinner, however, as it became clear the doping controversy could linger well after he leaves, as he continued to answer questions about the saga as he sat at a post-match press conference with the trophy.

Some members of the media and his own fellow players have alleged a double standard in how he was treated and Sinner said he had difficulty enjoying the tournament at times.

"What I can say is that the general reaction of the players was quite positive, even when things came out. Then there have been, of course, some different voices, but this is in everything," he said.

"That's why you have, as I said before, the people close to you, these are the people who knows what was going on and what I and my team went through."

Tennis: Jannik Sinner crashes Taylor Fritz's American party to win US Open 2024

The Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel made a quick U-turn on Jasprit Bumrah’s workload management. From initial reports suggesting that the board was willing to rest the ace seamer for the first series of the upcoming home season, the BCCI picking Bumrah for the first Test against Bangladesh raised some eyebrows. So, what prompted the selectors to name him in the Test squad?

India is scheduled to play ten Tests until January next year, including two against Bangladesh, three against New Zealand, both at home and five against Australia Down Under. Though India had enough options to choose from (from a pool of fast bowlers) for the Bangladesh series, even in Mohammed Shami’s absence, they still picked Bumrah to have a psychological edge over Bangladesh.

Here’s Team India squad for the first Test vs Bangladesh -

Rohit Sharma (Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah and&nbsp;Yash Dayal.

Meanwhile, the BCCI named a 16-man squad for the first Test starting on September 19 in Chennai, with Rishabh Pant’s return and Yash Dayal’s maiden India call-up made headlines. The board picked four seamers in Bumrah, Dayal, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep, alongside four spinners in Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav.

Considering the Chepauk pitch historically assists spinners, the hosts could play as many as three in the first match, with Siraj set to be among the two pacers.&nbsp;

Though Akash Deep is leading the race to play second seamer following his impressive Duleep Trophy first-round showing, wherein he picked nine wickets for India A, Bumrah’s selection could force the captain Rohit Sharma and newly-appointed Team India coach Gautam Gambhir to play him.&nbsp;

The only understandable reason behind this could be India’s hunger for the win, as during the previous white-ball series against Sri Lanka, the pacers lacked the zeal, as India lost the ODIs (0-2) for the first time since 1997.

<h2>India leads WTC rankings</h2>

The Indian Team is on the top of the current WTC cycle, with Australia following them in second place. Though India is unlikely to slip from that position, given their latest performances and rapid rise in this format since the past decade, Gautam and Rohit would not want any stone left unturned in their quest to stay on the top and eventually win an ICC trophy.

However, on August 15, a BCCI source detailed plans for managing Bumrah’s workload, saying, "In the case of Bumrah, he knows his body the best, and it will be up to him if he wants to play in the Tests against Bangladesh. The team management and selectors are very clear that India needs a 120 per cent fit Jasprit Bumrah for all five Tests against Australia Down Under. Before that, there is New Zealand in India, where he will probably play and get ready for the sterner tests."

Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s mighty Test series win over Pakistan in Pakistan might have also pushed the BCCI to bring back Bumrah for the first Test.&nbsp;

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) - the IPL 2024 winners, mulls replacing Gautam Gambhir with Jacques Kallis as the new team mentor. Following switching bases from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to KKR ahead of the last season, Gambhir was instrumental in helping the team lift the trophy for the third time.

However, soon after tasting success with the franchise he captained before, Gautam took over the Team India head coach role, replacing Rahul Dravid.

Though his role runs until December 2027, Gambhir taking along Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate, who was also part of KKR’s backroom staff, is a bigger issue to resolve for the franchise. With Chandrakant Pandit continuing as KKR’s head coach, they seek a new mentor.

Per a report in the Hindustan Times, KKR is mulling over bringing their former two-time IPL champion Kallis back into the coaching staff. Kallis, regarded as the greatest modern-day all-rounder, played for a few seasons for KKR before being appointed as their mentor in 2015 and head coach in 2016, replacing Trevor Bayliss.

Besides, the other contenders KKR is considering are former Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting and Rajasthan Royals’ Director of Operations Kumar Sangakkara.&nbsp;

Ponting left his job as DC head coach following IPL 2024, while Sangakkara’s RR appointed Rahul Dravid as their new head coach. Ponting, however, expressed his interest in coaching an IPL franchise sooner.

<h2>BCCI yet to release revised IPL auction rules</h2>

Following a high-profile meeting that included owners and stakeholders of all ten IPL teams, where everyone shared their thoughts on the retention list and Right to Match (RTM) card, the BCCI has yet to release the revised rules.

Per the previous rules exercised during the last mega auction in 2022, each team had four retentions, with the IPL council and BCCI removing the RTM card then.&nbsp;

However, ahead of the next mega auction, scheduled for December 2024,&nbsp;the ones&nbsp;having their bases set and tasted success have pushed for more retentions, somewhere around six or seven, while others have opted for no retentions.&nbsp;

Though the board might not consider this idea, the BCCI might settle around three or four retentions, excluding an RTM card.&nbsp;

The BCCI could make the verdict public anytime soon. &nbsp;

"She has sacrificed a lot for me," he explained. "She has often starved, so that I could eat and continue training because we didn't have enough money to ensure two square meals a day.

In 2002, Sema lost his leg in a landmine blast during an operation at the Line of Control (LOC) in Jammu and Kashmir. After surviving the fatal accident, he started playing the shotput at the age of 32. He trained under his coach Rakesh Rawat. Sema’s wife became his strength during the tough times and sacrificed even her food so that her husband could have “enough money” for the training, Sema said in one of the interviews after the Paris win. "She has sacrificed a lot for me," he explained. "She has often starved, so that I could eat and continue training because we didn't have enough money to ensure two square meals a day. Akash Deep picked nine wickets across two innings for India A against India B during their first-round Duleep Trophy match recently. Upon being approached about how he made the ball talk, the right-arm seamer credited constructive conversations with Mohammad Shami for this magic.&nbsp;

Though Shami remained out of contention for the Bangladesh series as he continues to recover from the ankle injury, the BCCI named Akash Deep in the squad for the first Test starting September 19 in Chennai.

The frontline seamer debuted during the England Tests in January earlier this year, impressing everyone with his tight line and length. Following the series, Akash Deep played just one IPL game and has been training at the NCA since, bowling longer spells and preparing for the marathon season.&nbsp;

As India is scheduled to play ten Tests till January next year, including two against Bangladesh and three against New Zealand, both at home and five against Australia Down Under, Akash Deep remains part of the core bowling group.

"My last proper match was my Test debut in March," Akash Deep said after Duleep Trophy’s first-round game.&nbsp;

"In the IPL, I played just one game. As a fast bowler, it's difficult to come back [after such a long stretch]. I was at the NCA for a month, I played a lot of practice games keeping in mind the kind of situations we will face in a real match so that the muscle memory is used to the rigours of a first-class match,” he continued.

<h2>Akash shines in Duleep Trophy and Shami’s advice</h2>

Of the nine wickets he picked, the two that stood out for him were the one to dismiss Nitish Reddy and another one accounting for Washington Sundar, both clean bowled.&nbsp;
The two dismissals were alike, with the ball making the right noises by seaming off the pitch.

Like how Shami trapped England great Ben Stokes during the ODI World Cup last year by first continue bowling him one line and then picking his wicket with the one that straightens off the pitch, Akash did the same with Sundar, to whom he has bowled plenty in the nets.

"I had been bowling a lot to him [Washington] from around the wicket in the nets. He has been batting a lot against me and had got used to it. So I wanted to do something that I hadn't done against him before," Akash Deep noted.

Meanwhile, Akash Deep explains how speaking to Shami helped him deliver peaches against Reddy and Sundar.

"When you bowl to a left-hander from around the wicket, the ball moves naturally towards the shine," Akash explained.&nbsp;

"I spoke to him [Shami] about how to get the ball to come back in [with the angle]. I have seen him do that.

"He advised me not to focus too much on bringing it in. He said it will automatically come over time, and, when it does, it will become a wicket-taking ball. Because if it keeps going out and, then, you are able to bring it back in with the shine, it's tough for batsmen.&nbsp;But he has cautioned me against trying it a lot. But as a bowler, if you're able to do it, then batters will have a tendency to chase balls away as well,” the India seamer added.

The Paris Paralympics were the "greatest ever," according to a&nbsp;former IOC marketing executive, while another told AFP that it "delivered in spades" the thing that people relate most to in sport—emotion.

Mainly packed stadia, iconic venues, and the feelgood factor derived from the Olympics that came before them turned the Paralympics into a festival of sport, according to Michael Payne, a former head of marketing at the International Olympic Committee.

Its counterpart, the International Paralympic Committee, can breathe a sigh of relief after Rio was widely criticised for its hosting in 2016 and the Tokyo edition was deprived of spectators due to Covid restrictions.

"Paris built on the magic of the Olympic Games and delivered a spectacular Paralympic Games—to my mind the greatest ever," Payne told AFP.

"All the ingredients that made the Olympics so special have been carried forward to the Paras, delivering an incredible atmosphere."

His fellow former IOC marketing executive Terrence Burns said in his 30-plus years of experience of Paralympics there was no comparison "in both fan and commercial interest."

"In so many ways, I believe the Paralympics are truly coming into their own as a separate yet complementary 'product' from the Olympics," Burns told AFP.

"I give the IOC full marks for working hard to make the Paralympics a product that brands want not only to support, but to market.

"(It is) a difference with a profound distinction." &nbsp;

For Payne,&nbsp;who in nearly two decades at the IOC was credited with modernising the organisation's brand and improving its finances through sponsorship, the high profile of the Paralympics had hugely positive ramifications.

"The Paralympics provide a massive boost worldwide to the disabled movement—bringing the issue of disability front and centre," said the 66-year-old Irishman.

"(There is) a real legacy from general accessibility to a broader debate and awareness about disability throughout society."

He said that before Paralympic Games became mainstream, "disability was often hidden and rarely talked about".

<h2>'Emotion'</h2>

Payne said the athletes were the main actors in making the Paralympics the spectacle they are, with a knock-on positive impact for disabled people back in their own countries.

"The stories of&nbsp;what some refer to as 'the super humans' provide an inspirational platform that is impossible to ignore," he said.

"Everyone recognises the incredible challenges that each Paralympic athlete has had to overcome—and watching their performances in Paris, you look on totally awestruck."

Burns also said the athletes drove the narrative.

"I think people react and relate to sport through a single prism: emotion," he said.

"The Paras deliver on that in spades.

"Increased coverage and exposure means more fans can experience it."&nbsp;

British amputee sprinter Jonnie Peacock is one who would like that exposure to be even greater.

The two-time 100m champion made an impassioned plea to World Athletics that Paralympic athletes be included in the main televised section of the elite Diamond League meetings. &nbsp;

Payne thinks his argument holds water, but says though the Commonwealth Games combine both para and able-bodied events, it would be a no-go for the Olympics to follow suit.

"Including Para sports events in individual world championships could well work for certain sports," he said.

"But a total integration into the Olympics would not work to my mind.

"Both events are now so big, they each need their own stage... and frankly, I think Paralympics are better served on the stage by themselves."

Burns, who since leaving the IOC has assisted five successful Olympic bid city campaigns, says Peacock does have a point.

"I would also argue that mixing might dilute the focus on Paralympic sport, though (it is) worth experimenting with."&nbsp;

Burns said the only real downside is the "confusing classifications system".

Payne praised the organisation of the Paralympics.

"Some joke that the Olympics are just a 'test event' for the real thing, giving the local organisers the time to iron out all the small operational problems!"

'Delivered a spectacular...,' former IOC executive on success of Paris Paralympics

England interim boss Lee Carsley got off to an impressive start in a 2-0 win at the Republic of Ireland on Saturday, while Germany and the Netherlands scored five to begin their Nations League campaigns in style.

The clash in Dublin showcased what might have been for the hosts as Declan Rice and Jack Grealish, who both previously represented Ireland, struck in the first half for the Euro 2024 finalists.

Carsley won the under-21 European Championship with England in 2023 and did his case to succeed Gareth Southgate full time no harm on the field with a performance that had a lot more attacking verve than in much of the Three Lions' Euros campaign.

However, he again faced questions after the match for not singing the English national anthem before kick-off.

Rice silenced the boos that greeted his every touch with a thumping finish into the top corner on 11 minutes.

The Arsenal midfielder then turned provider for Grealish to fire in his first international goal since the 2022 World Cup.

"I'm pleased with it but not surprised. I think they've both been in football long enough now to understand and respect that it was going to be a little bit hostile at times, but in the right way," said Carsley. "Obviously, it's great for them two that they've scored the goals but more importantly that the team has won and they've kept a clean sheet."

England are aiming to get back into the top tier of the Nations League after being relegated last time out.

<h2>Wirtz, Musiala shine</h2>

In League A, Germany and the Netherlands built on their strong showings at the Euros.

Germany demolished Hungary 5-0 in Duesseldorf with creative duo Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala stealing the show.

The young forwards showed the future for German football remains bright despite the retirements of 2014 World Cup winners Manuel Neuer, Toni Kroos and Thomas Mueller, along with captain Ilkay Gundogan.

Wirtz and Musiala combined to tee up Niclas Fuellkrug to open the scoring in the first half.

Musiala then converted the second from Wirtz's pass early in the second to open the floodgates.

Wirtz made it 3-0 before Aleks Pavlovic's first Germany goal and a Kai Havertz penalty rounded off the scoring.

The Netherlands suffered no hangover from their semi-final exit to England at the Euros with a thrilling 5-2 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina in Eindhoven.

Joshua Zirzkee was handed his first international start and rewarded Ronald Koeman within 13 minutes with his first goal for the Oranje.

Ermedin Demirovic hit back quickly for the visitors against the run of play.

However, Tijjani Reijnders capped his excellent display with the Netherlands' second goal just before half-time.

Cody Gakpo tapped in Reijnders' low cross to make it 3-1 before Edin Dzeko again hauled Bosnia back into the game.

But late goals from Wout Weghorst and Xavi Simons gave the scoreline the reflection the Dutch dominance deserved.

Next up for Ronald Koeman's men is a mouthwatering clash with old rivals Germany in Amsterdam on Tuesday.

In League B, Georgia continued their fine form from the Euros with a 4-1 thrashing of the Czech Republic.

Nations League: Grealish, Rice shine for England against Ireland; Dutch, Germany hit five each

Aryna Sabalenka won the US Open and her third Grand Slam crown with a thrilling victory over a gallant Jessica Pegula in a rollercoaster final on Saturday.

World number two Sabalenka triumphed 7-5, 7-5 to add the New York title to her back-to-back Australian Open victories.

Pegula went down fighting, however, recovering from 0-3 and break point down to lead 5-3 in the second set before Sabalenka came through.

The 26-year-old from Belarus clubbed 40 winners to become the first woman since Angelique Kerber in 2016 to capture both hardcourt majors in the same season.

"I'm speechless. So many times, I was close to the US Open title and finally I got it," said Sabalenka, the runner-up last year and semi-finalist in 2022 and 2023.

"Never give up on your dream. Work hard. I'm super proud of myself."

Pegula had arrived in New York with a title in Toronto and runner-up spot to Sabalenka in Cincinnati.

She had won 15 out of 16 matches on the North American summer hard court swing.

"I wish she would have at least let me get one set. We had a tough match in Cincinnati a few weeks ago and she's one of the best in the world," said the American.

"She's super powerful and isn't going to give you anything. She can take the racquet out of your hand.

"I'm just glad I was able to stay in there and keep taking opportunities."

Sabalenka lost the 2023 US Open final to Pegula's compatriot Coco Gauff and she struggled to settle in during the early stages on Saturday as a flurry of errors handed the home favourite a break for 2-1.

But the powerful Sabalenka levelled immediately and broke again for 4-2.

A capacity crowd of 23,000 included sporting royalty such as Olympic 100m gold medallist Noah Lyles, NBA star Steph Curry and former Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton watched on.

Most were behind Pegula but the 30-year-old was defenceless against the remorseless hitting of the world number two, whose screams echoed beneath the closed roof of the cavernous Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Pegula, who had knocked out world number one Iga Swiatek and then battled from a set and break down to see off Karolina Muchova in the semi-final, clung on.

From 2-5 down, she hit back for 5-5, breaking Sabalenka as the Australian Open champion served for the set.

In a marathon 12th game, however, Pegula saved four set points but not the fifth.

Sabalenka had unleashed 25 winners and committed 23 unforced errors to Pegula's nine and 11, illustrating a dramatic contrast of styles in the 60-minute opener.

For the second match in succession, Pegula was soon a set and break down again, a double fault allowing Sabalenka to move ahead 3-0.

Incredibly, the 30-year-old stormed back to lead 5-3 before Sabalenka broke in the 10th game as her opponent attempted to level the final.

Sabalenka held her nerve to claim victory when Pegula went long with a weary drive.

Tennis: Aryna Sabalenka beats American Jessica Pegula in marathon US Open final to win title

Jannik Sinner will hope to block out a rocking home crowd on Sunday when he faces Taylor Fritz in the U.S. Open final at Flushing Meadows, where the 12th seed will be bidding to become the first American man in 21 years to win a Grand Slam singles title.

U.S. fans had become accustomed to celebrating the triumphs of American men for decades, with the likes of Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe, Jim Courier, Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi collecting 41 slams between them from the 1970s to the early 2000s.

But since Andy Roddick won his sole major on Arthur Ashe Stadium in 2003, American men have failed to win any of the four majors.

With the barren run lasting for 82 consecutive slams, New York fans will be turning up the volume to deafening levels on Sunday as they get behind Fritz and hope he can finally snap that losing streak.

"I'm gonna accept that. I have my team and my people who are close to me," said Italian top-seed Sinner. "In my mind, I know that there are many people watching from home from Italy, and it's just take some support from them."

Sinner has enjoyed an extraordinary year with a major breakthrough at the Australian Open and was in top form as he won the Cincinnati tune-up tournament last month.

But he did not get the hero's welcome a U.S. Open top seed usually enjoys when they arrive in New York, with a doping saga overshadowing his on-court exploits.

Days before the tournament began, the International Tennis Integrity Agency said that he tested positive twice for an anabolic agent in March but avoided a ban when an independent tribunal accepted his claim that the positive tests were the result of unintentional contamination.

Some players and members of the media cried foul but Sinner tuned out the complaints as he marched through the men's draw, downing former champion Daniil Medvedev in the quarter-finals before beating Briton Jack Draper in a chaotic semi-final.

"We went just day by day, really, with not so many expectations. Trying to find my game, trying to find our rhythm," said Sinner. "Just trying to find confidence throughout the days."

The biggest question mark over his chances now is whether he damaged his wrist following a fall during the semi-final, as he braced himself with his left hand when he fell to the court.

"The physio (loosened) it up very fast on the court, so after I felt OK in the beginning. Then, after, it went away by playing, which is good," Sinner told reporters.

He will be ready to deploy all the weapons in his arsenal against the 12th seed Fritz, who wants to defy the odds again after a convincing run through Flushing Meadows.

Fritz beat former finalists Casper Ruud and Alexander Zverev en route to the all-American semi-final, where he outlasted Frances Tiafoe.

He possesses one of the most lethal serves in the sport and sent over 75 aces across the tournament.

He is also brimming with confidence that he can end the U.S. men's major drought on Sunday, with his career head-to-head against Sinner deadlocked at 1-1.

"I've always enjoyed playing him," said Fritz. "I have a feeling I'm going to come out and play really well and win. When I play good tennis, I think that level is good enough to win."

Jannik Sinner plans to crash Taylor Fritz’s American party in US Open Final

Newly-appointed Rajasthan Royals head coach Rahul Dravid reportedly declined ‘blank cheques’ from other franchises to relink with his former IPL team ahead of the next season.&nbsp;

Dravid, Team India's head coach until recently, joined Royals’ backroom staff, with RR announcing the news on social media in collaboration with football transfer news king Fabrizio Romano.

Having switched bases in 2011 from Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to Rajasthan Royals, Dravid played, captained and later mentored the franchise before opting out of the IPL circuit to join India-A and India U-19 teams, respectively, in a mentor role.

After tasting success at the junior level, where India won the Under-19 World Cup in 2018 under his tutelage, Dravid replaced Ravi Shastri as the senior team’s head coach on a three-year contract.&nbsp;

Though India played three ICC finals during this time – the 2023 WTC Final, the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2024 T20 World Cup, they lost two but won the one in the shortest format in the Americas.

Given how far India has come in all formats, mainly during Dravid’s tenure, all ten IPL franchises kept a tab on his availability ahead of the next season.&nbsp;

<h2>Dravid returns ‘home’</h2>

Per a report in the Cricbuzz, some teams had even offered the former India great ‘blank cheques’ to accept the head coach role, but Dravid knew his next destination would be the franchise he once called his ‘home’.

"I am pleased to be returning to the franchise I have called 'home' for a number of years in the past," Dravid said in a statement.&nbsp;

"After the World Cup, I feel it's the ideal time for me to take on another challenge, and the Royals is the perfect place to do that … It's an exciting opportunity for us to take this team to the next level given the kind of talent and resources we have at our disposal and I'm looking forward to getting started,” he continued.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the franchise’s CEO, Jake Lush McCrum, also acknowledged Dravid’s loyalty to the franchise while accepting how good his coaching skills have been.

"We are delighted to be bringing Rahul back to the franchise," RR CEO Jake Lush McCrum said.&nbsp;

"His exceptional coaching capabilities are evident with the transformation he's driven in Indian cricket. He also has a deep connection to the franchise, and we've seen that passion come through in all our conversations. Rahul has already got to work with Kumar (Sangakkara) and the rest of the team as we prepare for this exciting new period for the franchise, starting with IPL retention and the auction just around the corner,” he added.

With each passing day, cricket fans are nearing the start of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled in Pakistan during the February-March window next year. Though plenty has happened behind the scenes in the past month, including Jay Shah's appointment as the new ICC chair, which could eventually decide CT venue fate, the PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi is confident that Pakistan will retain the hosting rights, with the PCB constantly in touch with the BCCI secretary.

During the latest media interaction, Naqvi sounded optimistic about BCCI and the Indian Government allowing the Indian Team to travel to Pakistan for the first time since 2008 for the multi-team tournament. &nbsp;

“Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan, we are in touch with the BCCI Secretary,” PCB chairman Naqvi said during a media interaction, as quoted by The Indian Express. “[We are] also in contact with the boards of the teams participating in the Champions Trophy.”

Even last year, when Pakistan was supposed to host the 2023 Asia Cup, the BCCI decided against sending the team, with the Asian Cricket Council, headed by Jay Shah, deciding to add Sri Lanka as the co-host, with all India games rescheduled in the Island Nation, including the final.

Besides, the PCB began preparations for the eight-team tournament, with construction resuming at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The remaining two venues finalised for the Champions Trophy are the National Stadium in Karachi and Pindi Stadium in Rawalpindi.

“The basement of Gaddafi Stadium will be constructed by September 30. Each floor will be completed in a three-week period. The front building would consist of a steel structure. The main building of Gaddafi Stadium will be completed by December 31.

“Pindi Stadium will have to be completely demolished and rebuilt; the seats will be installed in the stadium before the Champions Trophy. The renovation at Karachi’s [National Stadium] will also be completed before the Champions Trophy,” Naqvi concluded.

<h2>BCCI has yet to take final call</h2>

Despite being approached several times, the BCCI officials have kept mum over their stance of not sending the Indian Team across the border.

Neither the BCCI President Roger Binny nor Shah has given any verdict, with everything surrounding this ICC event remaining in the air.&nbsp;

England all-format all-rounder Moeen Ali announced his international retirement on Sunday (Sep 8). Moeen’s decision had come after the selectors ignored him for the white-ball series against Australia, with the first T20I starting Wednesday (Sep 11). The left-handed batter said he understands his omission from the squad and that 'it’s time for the next generation' to overtake.

"I'm 37 years old and didn't get picked for this month's Australia series," Moeen said during a chat with Daily Mail. "I've played a lot of cricket for England. It's time for the next generation, which was also explained to me. It felt&nbsp;the time was right. I've done my part."

Moeen made his international debut a decade ago (in 2014) and has since played 68 Tests, 138 ODIs and 92 T20Is. He scored 6678 runs, including eight hundreds and 28 fifties across formats. As a part-time right-arm off-spinner, Moeen picked up 366 wickets in international cricket.

His last outing came during the T20 World Cup semi-final against India in Guyana, which the Men in Blue won convincingly.&nbsp;

<h2>‘I am leaving with my head held high’</h2>

Moeen said he enjoyed his time representing England across formats. Ali admitted that he could have tried hanging around, eyeing a place in the XI; instead, he remained as realistic as possible, knowing that change is inevitable and that cricket, with time, must evolve.&nbsp;

"I'm very proud. When you first play for England, you don't know how many games you're going to play. So, to play nearly 300…My first few years were all about Test cricket. Once Morgs [Eoin Morgan] took over the one-day stuff that was more fun. But Test cricket was the proper cricket.

"Even now, I've tried to be realistic. I could hold on and try to play for England again, but I know in reality I won't. Even retiring, I don't feel it's because I'm not good enough -- I still feel I can play. But I get how things are, and the team needs to evolve into another cycle. It's about being real to myself."

"People forget the impact you make in games. It might only have been 20 or 30, but it was a crucial 20 or 30. For me, it was about making an impact. I know what I brought to the side, on and off the field. As long as I felt people enjoyed watching me play, whether or not I did well, I was happy with that,” he added.&nbsp;

<h3>His greatest moment</h3>

Reflecting on some of his best moments on the field, Moeen said winning the Ashes and two World Cups top the list.&nbsp;

However, from a personal point of view, Moeen said picking up a Test hat-trick against South Africa at the Oval was his career highlight.&nbsp;
