As Australia gears up for the home Tests against India starting November 22 in Perth, head coach Andrew McDonald has hinted at including uncapped opener Sam Konstas in the squad for the Border-Gavaskar series. Konstas, 19, has made headlines back home with successive hundreds in his first Sheffield Shield game this season, followed by a gritty 43 against Victoria on a tricky MCG pitch.

Since David Warner’s retirement from Tests earlier this year, Australia tried Steve Smith at the top, an experiment that failed, with Smith returning to his preferred number four position for five Tests against India. Though the selectors have kept a close eye on other contenders to partner Usman Khawaja at the top, including Marcus Harris, Cameron Bancroft and Matthew Renshaw, the focus has shifted to Konstas, who is likely to make his Australia debut next month.

Meanwhile, Konstas will play for Australia A against India A in Mackay on Thursday (Oct 31).&nbsp;

The right-handed batter has featured in just six first-class matches thus far, with McDonald admitting his lack of experience will not stop the selectors from naming him in the Test side should they consider him the ideal choice to fill the vacant spot.

"I think we're picking the best team for here and now, and if that does encompass a younger player, then we'll head down that direction," McDonald said during a chat with ABC's Offsiders.&nbsp;

"And clearly Sam Konstas, on the back of his first Shield match, and the way he went about his work in the second innings at the MCG against Scott Boland, has definitely made some noise.

"I've heard people commentating 'do you protect the player?' If they're ready, they're ready in our mind, and if Sam's capable and we feel as though is capable to fill that spot I don't think that the opponent should come into the equation,” he continued.

<h2>Sam’s mentor Watson backs Konstas’ selection</h2>

Sam’s mentor and former Australia great Shane Watson also advocated for his selection for the Border-Gavaskar series, with McDonald saying they will not protect any player from any opponent, and knowing India is the strongest opponent, what’s better than playing him at home?&nbsp;

"I think it's purely is this player good enough to play Test cricket?" McDonald said.&nbsp;

"You've got to start against someone, and you shouldn't be holding back and protecting someone from a potential opponent, and India is a strong opponent, but also, the advantage of a player playing in Australia for their first Test summer is that the conditions are familiar. What better place to start than in your own backyard,” he continued.

Meanwhile, besides Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney are the remaining four venues for India Tests.&nbsp;

The Indian team management has made it mandatory for all squad players to attend the two-day training session (on Oct&nbsp;30 and 31) ahead of the third Test against New Zealand in Mumbai starting November 1. Per the latest reports, these two sessions are not optional, and players cannot skip them. This development came after India lost the second match in Pune by 113 runs, surrendering the Test series at home for the first time in 12 years.

“The team management has asked the players to be present for two days of practice on October 30 and 31. It’s compulsory, and no one can skip it,” a source close to the information confirmed, as quoted by The Indian Express.

Earlier, the team management used to allow players to skip training sessions ahead of a Test to ensure they were fresh and ready for the next five days. However, the Test series loss at home to New Zealand made the management take stricter actions.

Typically, the fast bowlers and the high-profile players used to skip these training sessions or, at best, have light ones compared to the newcomers or emerging players in the line-up. It’s been a general practice for some time now, given how tight Indian cricket’s schedule is during the home season, and also because players can buy time to rest, recover and be ready for the next game.

Now that India lost two home matches on a trot, chances of directly qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final are under dark clouds. India needs to win four out of the six remaining Tests, five of which are against Australia Down Under, to ensure a smooth ride to the finals.

Should India lose the next game in Mumbai, their chances of reaching the summit clash (scheduled in June next year at the Lord's) would suffer a beating. The remaining contenders, including the Kiwis, Sri Lanka and South Africa, are also chasing this dream.

<h2>Players reach Mumbai for final Test</h2>

The Indian Express also reported that stalwarts Rohit and Virat, alongside KL Rahul, drove to Mumbai with their families, while others will reach the city on Sunday (Oct 27). The players will rest for two days before beginning training for the final Test.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel created history the last time India played the Kiwis at the Wankhede three years ago, becoming only the third bowler after England’s Jim Laker and India’s Anil Kumble to pick ten wickets in an innings, though New Zealand lost that Test by 372 runs.&nbsp;

Team management makes it ‘mandatory’ for Indian players to attend training sessions ahead of Mumbai Test

India captain Rohit Sharma said he is proud of his playing unit but vows not to overreact to the first-series defeat at home in 12 years against New Zealand. The Kiwis won the second Test in Pune by 113 runs, claiming their fourth Test and maiden series victory in India, ending India’s unbelievable reign at home. He, however, confirmed to be sitting down with ‘certain individuals’, chatting and reflecting on their performances in this series.

Meanwhile, Rohit’s form remains a huge worry for him and India, especially knowing what’s following next – the daunting tour of Australia. In the second game, the Indian skipper failed to get going across both innings, getting out on a duck and eight, respectively. Although he struck a fifty (52) in the second innings in the first Test in Bengaluru, which India lost by eight wickets, he got out on just two in the first innings.

Speaking to the reporters after the match, Rohit said he would not react differently because India lost one home series in 12 years. Rohit added India has had more good moments than bad ones and that he wishes to keep the negativity out of the dressing room.

"I just said it because of these three sessions, I am not going to react differently. Look at the number of games we have won in India. I was just watching the television, out of the 54 Test matches, we have won 42, which is nearly 80 per cent.&nbsp;

“There are more good things that have happened than bad things. I don't want to react so much that guys within the team start thinking that something different is happening. I don't want to create that kind of environment where people start doubting themselves,” the Indian captain said after the Pune Test loss.&nbsp;

<h2>‘No excuses, we need to work harder’</h2>

Rohit said he knew the gravity of this loss but insisted on not changing his way of approaching the game or his teammates.

"You don't need to overreact. But you need to have a quiet chat with certain individuals and let them know where they are at and what, as a team, we require from them. I don't think you need to make them sit in a team room on a one-on-one basis, and go through their innings and tell them this is what you should be doing. I don't think this is the right forum to do that.

“Just because we have lost a series, I don't think there is anything that we need to talk differently or do differently. But yeah, we need to find ways to come out of those situations,” Rohit added.

Meanwhile, the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai will host the third and final Test starting November 1st.&nbsp;

The 32-year-old Trinidadian shrugged off the pain after twisting his ankle mid-innings to clock his fifth ODI hundred -- a vital one for a West Indies side that had struggled against Sri Lanka's spinners all series.

He hit the winning runs with a towering six off Asitha Fernando to finish on an unbeaten 102 off 61 balls with nine fours and four sixes.

Sherfane Rutherford made his third consecutive half-century in the series, already sealed 2-0 by Sri Lanka.

Together, the duo forged an unbroken 88-run partnership for the third wicket in 45 balls, showing poise and composure even as the required run rate crept above 12 per over.

Sri Lanka let several chances slip through their fingers, with dropped catches and fielding lapses that could have halted the tourists' momentum.

Successive downpours stole over five hours from the game, reducing it to a 23-over contest.

Sri Lanka had posted 156-3 before the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method revised the chase upwards.

<h2>'Weren't good enough'</h2>

"It was a bit disappointing with the way things went on today," home captain Charith Asalanka said. "We fancied our chances when they had to chase 195. But we weren't good enough."

Kusal Mendis gave the hosts a flying start with a dazzling 19-ball fifty.

When the covers finally came off after dark, he hit four boundaries off Roston Chase in the last four balls of the over.

He twice pulled to mid-wicket, then drilled one down the ground, and deftly cut the final delivery past short third man, giving Sri Lanka the surge they needed.

Mendis then humbled left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie with back-to-back boundaries, the second of which pushed him past 4,000 career ODI runs.

He finished on an unbeaten 56 after hammering nine fours and a six.

Opener Pathum Nissanka anchored the partnership with a composed 56 off 62 balls, before he was run out by Alzarri Joseph.

The West Indies' fielding woes continued with four dropped chances blunting their efforts.

The visitors handed 17-year-old Jewel Andrew his ODI debut, making him the youngest West Indian to play the format.

Match Report - Evin Lewis hits hundred in consolation win for West Indies against Sri Lanka in 3rd ODI

A former wife of legendary US boxer Muhammad Ali arrived in the Afghan capital, a Taliban government official said Friday, to reportedly open a stadium in a country where women are barred from sports.

The head of the Taliban government's sports directorate, Ahmadullah Wasiq, told AFP that Khalilah Camacho-Ali, who was married to the boxer for a decade from 1967, had arrived in Kabul.

State media cited the directorate as saying she was in the city "to build a sports stadium to be named 'Pirozi' (victory in Dari) and a sports association named after Muhammad Ali".

Born Belinda Boyd in 1950 in the United States, Camacho-Ali, like her world champion boxer ex-husband, converted to Islam after they married.

Ravindra Jadeja sparked a comeback for the Indian Team early on day three of the Pune Test by picking three wickets and contributing to a run-out, dismissing New Zealand on 255 inside the first session. While Ravichandran Ashwin and Jadeja picked seven wickets combined, Sundar topped the chart with four in the second innings and 11 overall in this match.

India needs 359 runs to win the second Test and level the three-match series 1-1.

Starting day three with five wickets in hand, New Zealand would have wanted to pile on the lead but failed to do so. Shortly after the proceedings began, India broke the stand, with Jadeja accounting for keeper-batter Tom Blundell, bowled on 41.

New Zealand's first-inning hero, Mitchell Santner, couldn’t replicate his heroics with the bat, as Jadeja picked him up on just four, caught by Jasprit Bumrah. Ravichandran Ashwin removed pace leader Tim Southee caught at the first slip on a duck, breaking New Zealand’s momentum.

Standing at the other end, Glenn Phillips upped the ante with some attacking shots, closing in on his fifty, but couldn’t reach there, as Ajaz Patel and William ORourke departed early. Though Ajaz found&nbsp;Sundar at deep mid-wicket, ORourke got run out, for which he is to be blamed.

<h2>India attacks upfront</h2>

One down in this Test series, India has everything to play for, and they began the chase with the same intent. Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed the first six of the game on the second delivery, whacking another one for a four.&nbsp;

India captain Rohit Sharma did the same off his first ball, pulling one to deep square leg for a boundary, with India showing signs of hunting this target. Their brief attacking spell ended soon after, with Santner returning to haunt the Indians.&nbsp;

He dismissed Rohit, caught at the short leg on just eight to dent India’s momentum.

Though Ajaz found Sundar at deep mid-wicket, ORourke got run out, for which he is to be blamed. 𝘼 𝙧𝙪𝙣-𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚! Harshit Rana’s inclusion in the India team for the Australia series raised eyebrows, while Mohammed Shami’s absence worried the fans. Late on Friday night (Oct 25), the BCCI announced a jumbo 18-man squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series starting November 22 in Perth. The selectors made shocking calls with the inclusions of white-ball prospects Rana and all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy.

Per a PTI report, a source close to the BCCI confirmed that Harshit Rana’s inclusion was head coach Gautam Gambhir’s call, who mentored the pacer at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL.

“Harshit Rana has been completely Gautam Gambhir's choice. He has been pushing his case for the longest time since the start of the Sri Lanka tour. He was also kept as a reserve bowler. Since he is younger and quicker than both Navdeep Saini and Mukesh Kumar, he has pipped them to the final squad,” a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Meanwhile, speaking on Nitish Reddy’s maiden Test call-up, the source said, “Nitish is a work in progress, but if India are to bring in balance, they need their fourth seamer to be an all-rounder. Hence, Nitish is a desperate choice going by his IPL and Bangladesh series performance.”&nbsp;

India also picked Abhimanyu Easwaran as the backup opener and named Washington Sundar as the spare spin-bowling all-rounder, ahead of Shardul Thakur, who starred the last time Down Under.&nbsp;

Ace seamer Jasprit Bumrah will lead the heavy pace, which includes Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Rana and returning Prasidh Krishna. Despite talks of India including Mayank Yadav for the Australia Tests, the BCCI decided against rushing him into the Test side.&nbsp;

Besides, the fans were left wondering about Mohammed Shami, who failed to make the cut despite confirming that he is 100% pain-free and raring to go for the marquee series. The ace India seamer also posted a video of him bowling at full throttle in the nets.

‘Harshit Rana's selection for BGT is completely Gambhir’s choice’ – BCCI source ahead of Australia Tests

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti said on Friday that he does not fear LaLiga leaders Barcelona but has the utmost respect for Hansi Flick's side, who they host on Saturday.

Barca lead the standings three points ahead of their rivals. While Ancelotti praised Barca's recent form, he highlighted the fact that Real are the defending champions and will not be intimidated.

"Fortunately, at the moment nobody keeps me awake at night," Ancelotti told a press conference on Friday. "(Barcelona) are doing very well. But in a match like the Clasico it's very difficult to pick a favourite beforehand. It depends on the dynamics of the match. It's a matter of how you are able to handle the pressure, to deal with the tempo and how to identify the moments of the match...

"Barca have a very clear idea of how they play the game, they are performing very well. They are a very brave team and we need to prepare well for the game and try to play our best version."

Barca travel to Madrid off the back of a 4-1 Champions League win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday, maintaining Flick's outstanding start with 11 wins from 13 matches in all competitions.

Real, however, have been under moderate criticism from pundits about starting their games slow, raising questions about their motivation after winning both the LaLiga and Champions League titles last season.

The latest example was in their Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, when they had to fight back from two goals down after a dismal first-half and scored five goals after the break.

Ancelotti said that he is not worried about his players' mindset and believes they will be ready from the start due to the seriousness of their rivalry.

"Usually in this style of match you don't have to talk as much beforehand... The idea is to define a very clear, very simple strategy... and nothing else," Ancelotti said.

"It's not a type of match where you have to give big speeches. Playing like we did in the second half against Dortmund for 90 minutes is impossible, but that should be our starting point, what we will try to achieve. I think we did a lot of things right.

"We will prepare the game to do the right things with and without the ball. We have to play a complete game to win and we will try to do that."

NBA: Coby White stars scores 35 points as Chicago Bulls beat Milwaukee Bucks

Luis Suarez and Jordi Alba were on target as Inter Miami made a winning start to the first MLS Cup playoff campaign of their Lionel Messi era with a 2-1 win over Atlanta United on Friday.

Miami could book their place in the Eastern Conference semi-finals if they can win game two of the best-of-three series in Atlanta on November 2.

Inter, the top seed and favourites in the playoffs, made an electric start to the game with Suarez firing them ahead in the second minute when his former Barcelona team-mate Alba found Diego Gomez and the Paraguayan slipped the ball to Suarez who made no mistake from close range.

Atlanta qualified through a wildcard game in Montreal on Tuesday and they were slow out of the blocks as Miami dominated possession and gave visiting keeper Brad Guzan a busy opening half.

Alba fed Messi, whose sweetly struck, first-time shot forced the 40-year-old keeper into a fine, diving save.

Atlanta suffered a blow when right winger Brooks Lennon had to go off in the 21st minute and five minutes later Messi threatened again with his effort from 25-yards forcing another save from Guzan.

A minute later, Miami should have doubled their lead from a corner but David Martinez headed against the post with the goal at his mercy.

Messi then hit the post with an attempt to beat Guzan at his near post and a thundering follow-up shot from&nbsp; Marcelo Weigandt had the former Aston Villa keeper at full stretch.

Atlanta's problems continued with defender Stian Gregersen forced off with a muscle injury but just when it seemed everything was conspiring against them they got back on level terms in the 39th minute.

Pedro Amador played a clever little pass to find Georgia winger Saba Lobzhanidze inside the box and his first-time, left-foot shot flashed into the far bottom corner.

The visitors then had a glorious chance to go in with a lead at the break when Russian Alexey Miranchuk carved out a lovely ball through to Jamal Thiare but his shot lacked composure and was well wide.

The unique format of the first round of MLS's playoff, which go straight to penalties if the games are level after 90 minutes, would have given Atlanta hope that they could pull off an upset.

But their determined efforts were undone on the hour when they fell asleep at a Miami corner -- after a short-corner Messi played the ball across to Alba, who was left in acres of space outside the box.

The Spanish full-back gratefully accepted the invitation and unleashed a fierce drive from 25-yards out which flew past the helpless Guzan.

Messi had a chance to get on the scoresheet in stoppage time but he was denied by Guzan who raced out quickly to smother the shot.

Spinners Noman Ali and Sajid Khan have done it again for Pakistan in the deciding Test in Rawalpindi against England, picking 19 of the 20 wickets and helping the hosts stage an unbelievable comeback in the three-match Test series, winning it 2-1. Trailing 0-1 heading into the second Test in Multan, Pakistan made several changes to the playing XI, including adding this spin pair, who wreaked havoc.

It is Pakistan’s first Test series win over England since November 2015, at home since 2021 and under Test captain Shan Masood.

Meanwhile, day three of the final Test in Rawalpindi began with both spinners tearing into England’s middle order. Following a 46-run stand for the fourth wicket, Noman Ali struck twice quickly to remove Harry Brook (26) and England captain Ben Stokes (3), whose horrible tour of Pakistan ended in disarray. Joe Root was Noman’s next big scalp on 33, as he completed another five-for in this series.&nbsp;

Sajid Khan gave the finishing touches before Noman removed Jack Leach on ten to end England’s second innings on 112.&nbsp;

Pakistan needed 36 runs to win the third Test and win the series.

<h2>Captain Shan does it for Pakistan</h2>

After Jack Leach removed Saim Ayub, trapped in the front on eight, Captain Shan Masood whacked all six balls he faced for boundaries, hitting the six off Shoaib Bashir to complete the chase and win the match for Pakistan by nine wickets.

While Noman Ali finished the series with 20 wickets from two matches, averaging 13.85, Sajid – the Player of the Series, returned with 19 wickets.

“Thankful to God the series win. There was no pressure as such; I was making a comeback, but there were people who backed me, and I had played FC cricket. Off the field, I'm not like this; I'm funny; Kamran Ghulam is my best friend, but you need to behave like this to lift the team's morale,” Sajid reflected on his performance across both Tests.

On the other end, England captain Stokes lamented the series loss as disappointing, more so after their confidence, momentum and position following the win in the first Test in Multan.

“Disappointing, losing games and losing series. We weren’t able to match the challenges in the last two games, credit to Pakistan. Moving forward, we’ll look to match those challenges as we come up against them. Couple of weeks time, we’ll be up against New Zealand. The summer finished late, the lads worked really hard, but when you get out there in the middle, it’s all really different,” the captain noted.

Meanwhile, Pakistan was without their star players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah for the last two Tests that the hosts won. The newcomer Kamran Ghulam and the experienced spin duo of Sajid and Noman did the job for the team.

Talismanic India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) great Mahendra Singh Dhoni has dropped a massive hint on his Indian Premier League (IPL) future with the mega auction looming. Days before the deadline (Oct 31) end for all ten teams to submit their retention list, Dhoni addressed questions surrounding his future in the cash-rich league.

Having relinquished his IPL captaincy on the eve of the last season, Dhoni played as a batter, though with a troubling knee. In 14 contested matches in IPL 2024, Dhoni scored 161 runs at a whopping strike rate of over 220, hitting 13 sixes and 14 fours during brief stays at the crease.&nbsp;

Dhoni, 43, remains an integral part of the CSK group, taking all decisions, from deciding the playing XIs to preparing the strategies to take a call on whom to retain. With the IPL 2025 mega auction just around the corner, to be staged in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in the final week of November, Dhoni is yet to take a call on his future.

Per the franchise’s CEO, Kasi Viswanathan, Dhoni will wait until the last moment before announcing his decision.&nbsp;

"We have still no confirmation from him, though we will like him to continue playing for us," Viswanathan said in a chat with ESPNcricinfo. "Hope he will confirm before 31st [October]."

<h2>IPL rule change makes it easier for Dhoni</h2>

Meanwhile, thanks to the addition of an IPL rule that got scrapped in 2021, which reads that any Indian player who last played an international game at least five years before the retention date is eligible to play under the uncapped player category. MS Dhoni, whose final match for India came during the 2019 World Cup, qualifies to play as an uncapped player this year.

Although the BCCI has provided a minimum retention cap for five players (order-wise), every team can retain an uncapped player for INR 4 crore.

“I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I can play,” MS Dhoni said in a promotional event for a software brand, as quoted by Times of India.

“When you play cricket like a professional sport, it becomes difficult to enjoy it just like a game. That’s what I want to do. It’s not easy. The emotions keep coming, the commitments are there. I want to enjoy the game for the next few years,” he continued.&nbsp;

Chennai Super Kings haven’t announced their retention list yet, with SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) being the only franchise to indicate who would be retained ahead of next season.&nbsp;

Australia Test captain Pat Cummins said the team management is not considering David Warner’s proposal to make a comeback for the India Test series starting November 22 in Perth. Days after Warner went public about his keenness to return to open for the hosts in the marquee Border-Gavaskar series should Australia consider asking him, Cummins ended all speculations with a clear no.

The fiery left-handed opener retired from Tests in January this year, with batting veteran Steve Smith opening in his absence. Though that experiment didn’t work out the way Smith and Cricket Australia (CA) would have thought, and now that he is back to batting at number four against India, CA has zeroed in on a few options as the squad announcement date looms.

Australia is backing keeper-batter Jos Inglis to fill in the spot at the top, with Cameron Bancroft, Marcus Harris and Shield’s emerging star Sam Konstas being other options.

Meanwhile, Cummins addressed this topic during a chat on The Grade Cricketer Podcast, saying he spoke with Warner a few days ago but doesn’t remember talking about his comeback. Though cheekily, Cummins answered all questions.

"Dave, we’re very interested. We’re taking it very seriously and we’ll be in touch, mate," Cummins said on the podcast.&nbsp;

"I did speak to Dave a couple of days ago. I can’t remember if he reached out or I did… he’s like, “What do you think?”, and I was like, “Yeah, good luck with [Sydney] Thunder and I look forward to your comments on Fox.&nbsp;

"I think the truth’s somewhere in the middle. I reckon it (offer) is a bit of a wind-up, but I reckon, he doesn’t mind seeing himself in the back page. We love Davey, but he is retired," Cummins added.

Four-time NBA champion Klay Thompson scored 22 points in his Dallas debut on Thursday, giving a lift to Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic in a 120-109 NBA victory over the San Antonio Spurs.

Slovenian star Doncic scored 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Mavs, who fell to the Boston Celtics in last season's NBA Finals and acquired Thompson in a free agent deal in the off-season with the hope of going even further this season.

Thompson, who won four titles in 13 seasons with the Golden State Warriors, was delighted with his first outing for the Mavs.

"Blue is my favorite color," he told broadcaster TNT. "And Mavs blue looks good on me."

Kyrie Irving scored 15 points for Dallas and the Mavericks harried the Spurs defensively.

San Antonio star Victor Wembanyama, aiming to build on last season's Rookie of the Year campaign, connected on just five of 18 shots from the field on the way to 17 points and the Spurs coughed up 19 turnovers leading to 17 Mavericks points.

Chris Paul, an 11-time All-Star point guard brought in to lend veteran experience to the young San Antonio squad trying to get the Spurs back in the playoffs after a five-season absence, scored all of his points on a lone three-pointer, finishing one-of-six from the field with eight assists.

"Couldn't ask for a better start," Thompson said. "Just sharing the flow with (Irving), Luka and the rest of the guys -- very special after a hard month of really good work.

"But it's just a small step for where we want to go," Thompson added.

The reigning champion Boston Celtics, coming off a season-opening rout of the New York Knicks, got off to a slow start against last season's second-worst team Washington, who led by as many as eight points in the early going.

It was tied at 51-51 with five minutes left in the second quarter, but Boston closed the first half on a 13-3 run and dominated the second half on the way to a 122-102 victory.

Jaylen Brown celebrated his 28th birthday by scoring 27 points and Jayson Tatum added 25 with 11 rebounds for Boston, who had 19 points from Derrick White.

"We just had to carry over from the first game," Brown said. "This was our first road game ... we started off a little slow but we stayed the course and we were able to get the win."

Jordan Poole led the Wizards' scoring with 26 points -- 20 in the first half as he kept Washington in touch early. But the Celtics out-scored the Wizards 34-19 in the third quarter and the rout was on.

With the game in hand, Tatum sat out the entire fourth quarter while Brown departed with just over eight minutes to play.

Multi-time NBA champion Klay Thompson stars in Dallas debut as Mavericks beat San Antonio Spurs

Tottenham teenager Mikey Moore was compared to Brazilian ace Neymar after a standout role in the 1-0 win over AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League on Thursday with Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou admitting it will difficult to "keep the lid" on expectations.

Making just his second start for the first team, 17-year-old Moore shone playing down the left wing, regularly leaving AZ defenders floundering.

"From minute 45 to 65, I thought we had Neymar on the left wing! He was brilliant," Tottenham skipper James Maddison told TNT Sports as he compared his teammate to Neymar, the world's most expensive footballer when he moved to PSG from Barcelona for 222 million euros in 2017.

"Demanded the ball, fearless. That young fearless mentality, you never want to take that away from him," added Maddison.

"He's a lovely boy, takes on information and he has got bags of ability. So, I will be there as an older player, hopefully with some wise words, to help him along the way. He has all the ability. It is about knuckling down and keep working hard which he does to be fair to him."

Postecoglou admitted he faces a challenge to rein in anticipation of what Moore can deliver for the London club.

"It's pretty hard for me to keep a lid on it now ain't it? He was exciting. There is no point denying it," said the manager. "I love the way Mikey is taking it all in his stride, he works hard every day. He wants to develop; he understands that this is a journey."

However, Postecoglou cautioned: "We have to be really careful about how we use him and when we use him, that is the key for us, particularly in these early stages."

Tottenham teen Mikey Moore compared to Neymar after impressive Europa League outing

Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho said his former club Manchester United escaped Istanbul with a point after he was sent to the stands in a 1-1 Europa League draw on Thursday.

United have drawn all three of their European games this season and a point does little to ease the pressure on under-fire manager Erik ten Hag.

Christian Eriksen fired a depleted United in front on 15 minutes, but Fenerbahce had the better of the chances and got their reward when Youssef En-Nesyri equalised early in the second half.

"We were better than them, so overall a good result for Manchester United," Mourinho told TNT Sports.

A point leaves United languishing in 21st of the 36-team table and with their chances of securing a top-eight finish to progress directly to the last 16 fading.

Fenerbahce are in 14th on five points, with a top-24 finish enough to qualify for the playoff stage.

Mourinho also came into the game under pressure early in his reign with Fenerbahce trailing rivals Galatasaray by eight points at the top of the Turkish Super Lig.

"If we play like this in the Turkish league, we destroy every team," added Mourinho, who was shown a red card for his protests after appeals for a penalty were waived away in the second half.

"He (the referee) told me something incredible. He could see the action in the box and my behaviour on the touchline.

"I congratulate him because it is incredible his peripheral vision. During the game, 100 miles per hour, he had one eye on the penalty situation and one eye on the bench and my behaviour. That is why he is one of the best referees in the world."

United were without 10 players, including captain Bruno Fernandes, due to suspension or injury.

In Fernandes' absence, defender Noussair Mazraoui started in an unfamiliar attacking midfield role and had a part to play in an impressive opening goal.

Manuel Ugarte dispossessed former United midfielder Fred to launch a counter-attack that involved Alejandro Garnacho and Mazraoui before Joshua Zirkzee teed up Eriksen to blast home from the edge of the area.

However, for the third time in three Europa League matches, Ten Hag's men failed to build on taking the lead and have now gone a full calendar year without winning a European game.

"We have to win and we get again in the position to win, but we have to be killing (the opponent off) more," said Ten Hag. "We let the opponent get away with the point."

<h2>Onana double-save</h2>

Ugarte has struggled to establish himself since arriving in a £50 million ($65 million) deal from Paris Saint-Germain in August. But the Uruguayan showed the defensive awareness that attracted United's interest with a brilliant goal-saving challenge to deny Dusan Tadic a tap-in.

United also needed an excellent double save from Andre Onana to parry two En-Nesyri headers to protect their lead at half-time.

It was wiped out within four minutes of the restart as more sloppy defending allowed En-Nesyri to head in Allan Saint-Maximin's inviting cross.

Fenerbahce were furious moments later when penalty appeals for a foul on Bright Osayi-Samuel were waived away.

Mourinho took his protestations too far as he was dismissed by experienced French referee Clement Turpin.

There remains plenty of time for United to dig themselves out of trouble with five more favourable looking Europa League fixtures to come against PAOK, Bodo Glimt, Viktoria Plzen, Rangers and FCSB.

However, whether Ten Hag will still be in charge for all of those fixtures remains a major doubt after winning just four of United's opening 12 games of the season.

ALSO READ: ISL: Chennaiyin, Goa split points after Daniel Chukwa's controversial equaliser A point leaves United languishing in 21st of the 36-team table and with their chances of securing a top-eight finish to progress directly to the last 16 fading. That is why he is one of the best referees in the world." United were without 10 players, including captain Bruno Fernandes, due to suspension or injury. "We let the opponent get away with the point." Onana double-save Ugarte has struggled to establish himself since arriving in a £50 million ($65 million) deal from Paris Saint-Germain in August. Europa League: Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho sees red in Manchester United draw

Virat Kohli is a batting great, but even the best of the best have some weaknesses. Although his itchiness to play the fourth-stump line has always been a prominent advantage point for the opposition, Virat’s struggle against spin is the newest addition to the list. Against New Zealand during the ongoing second Test in Pune, Virat played a very ‘un-Kohli’ kind of shot against Mitchell Santner, resulting in yet another single-digit score in this series.

Coming onto bat at his usual number four position, Kohli got some bangers early on, with the orthodox left-arm spinner looking dangerous. Just eight balls into his first innings, Kohli tried sweeping a flighted delivery, missing it altogether and getting bowled on just one run.

The look on his face told the entire story, and so did the silence in Pune stadium. Rather than looking stunned by the quality of delivery, which often leaves him startled, the batting great looked disappointed with his shot selection.

His dismissal, however, sparked a collapse for the Indian Team, which got all out on 156, with Santner returning with his best Test figures of seven for 53. Though Jadeja tried saving the sinking ship with his counterattack cameo, New Zealand’s bowling was too good for India, who, for the nth time, seemed to fall into their trap once again.

IND v NZ 2024, 2nd Test: Virat’s ‘un-Kohli’ shot draws flak as batting great’s struggle against spin continues

Cheteshwar Pujara is a Test cricket giant all across, let alone for India. The closest thing to the great Rahul Dravid is him, and ironically, his batting position, technique, temperament, style of play and ability to tire the opposition are similar to that of ‘The Wall'. With the new-look Indian Team ready to roar Down Under, they somewhere, and for some reason, need Pujara back playing at number three ahead of Shubman Gill, a Test star in the making.

Gill hasn’t done anything wrong. A fantastic ODI opener has found his mojo in the shortest format lately but has yet to cement his place in the Test side; more so for his new position, with him replacing Pujara at number three since the WTC Final last year, Gill has been far from the threat he possessed as an opener.

However, with the captain Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal certain to take up the opener’s slot for the marquee Test series, Gill’s only chance of playing each of the five Tests is to bat at number three – a position head coach Gautam Gambhir would fancy him to succeed at, but that’s too big a risk to take knowing the stakes – the spot in the 2025 WTC Final.

So, how can India avoid finding themselves in a position they haven’t been in on the last two tours? The big comeback of Pujara in the Test squad.

The veteran number three batter for India has found his Midas touch in the ongoing Ranji Trophy, whacking a brilliant 234 for Saurashtra – his 18th first-class double hundred, which is the most by an Indian. Since being dropped from the Indian Test Team last year, Pujara returned to the English County, playing for Sussex, for whom he scored two tons this season.

<h2>Pujara – a monster batter in Australia</h2>

Not many have dominated the Aussie pace attack as Pujara did since his first trip Down Under in 2014. However, his best came four years later, when he scored a brilliant 123 in the first innings in Adelaide, helping India put up a fighting total and eventually win the match. His 521-run tally across seven innings – 201 more than the second-best batter (Rishabh Pant), was a testament to his batting prowess.

With the final Test at the SCG ending in a draw, the game in which Pujara hit 193, his best score Down Under, India created history by beating Australia at their home in Tests for the first time.

Two years later, the spirited Indian Team achieved a similar result, winning the four-match series 2-1, becoming the first Indian Team to beat Australia twice Down Under.

Looking beyond his marathon knocks against the Oz all these years, Pujara’s greatest efforts included his innings in the third Test in Sydney, wherein he scored twin fifties, but that’s not even the best part about it. While Pujara batted 176 balls in the first innings, he eventually broke the camel’s back with his gritty 205-ball 77 in the second innings, batting for endless hours and blocking everything coming his way.

What was the cherry on the top? The blows he took hurt him badly, but the Aussies more, who, for the second time in two series, failed to break Pujara’s concentration and defence.

With the stars aligning for Pujara just in time for the Border-Gavaskar series, we could see him return to the Test side for his last tour Down Under.

<h3>What happens to Shubman Gill then?</h3>

For everything that he has done thus far, which is no short of exceptional on several grounds, India must find a way to fit Gill into the XI for the Perth Test. Outside of the top three, which would belong to Rohit, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Pujara should he be picked, Gill’s best chance is probably at lower order, at five or six. That, however, would also depend on KL Rahul’s form heading into the Australian tour.

In an ideal situation, Gill could fit in at five, just after Kohli and before Sarfaraz Khan or Rishabh Pant, though India is unlikely to play Khan so low at seven, putting his spot in jeopardy.

In another scenario, Gill could play ahead of Jaiswal at the top, his preferred position, and having some experience batting there Down Under, Gill could fancy his chances of doing well; with that, he can even press his case for a permanent top-order spot when Rohit bids farewell to this format.

Considering all variables, Gill might have to fight hard for his spot in the XI if the BCCI selectors decide to bring Pujara for the BGT.

However, for now, all eyes would be on Pujara’s selection, and who knows, with that, India could benefit and do an unthinkable – beat Australia thrice at home.

Shubman Gill is a safe bet at no 3 but India still needs Cheteshwar Pujara in Australia. Here's why

New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner picked four wickets, including star batter Virat Kohli, to rock India in the first session of day two of the second Test in Pune. The hosts began proceedings on day two on 16 for one, with their scorecard at lunch reading 107 for seven. All-rounder Glenn Phillips bagged the remaining two wickets in the session by removing two lefties - Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant.

India began cautiously, with the returning Shubman Gill and Jaiswal doing their best to stay on the crease. Although both struck a couple of boundaries, including Gill’s coming-down-the-track six off Tim Southee, Santner broke the camel’s back with an incredible spell.

IND v NZ 2024, 2nd Test, Day 2: New Zealand rock India with six wickets inside first session

Cricket has seen countless funny stuff on the field, but almost none like a team losing eight wickets for just one run. It happened in Australia’s domestic One-Day Cup game between Western Australia (WA) and Tasmania (TAS) on Friday (Oct 25) at the iconic WACA stadium in Perth. With WA’s scorecard reading 52 for two at one stage, Tasmania sparked an unbelievable comeback to roll them out on 53, with the last seven batters registering ducks.

That one run, however, came off the wide only.

Tasmania chased the mere target of 54 with seven wickets remaining.&nbsp;

Tasmania seamer Beau Webster picked his career-best figure of six for 17 to dismiss WA on their lowest score in tournament history and second-lowest overall for any team after South Africa’s 51 against Tasmania in 2003.

Meanwhile, Tasmania won the toss and elected to bowl first against a star-studded WA side. After dismissing the openers (Aaron Hardie and D’Arcy Short) under 50, Tasmania had to deal with WA's long batting lineup, consisting of some Australia internationals. That wasn't a problem for the visitors, especially seamer Webster, who tore into their batting lineup to create history. &nbsp;

Cameron Bancroft’s wicket was the beginning of the end for the hosts, who went on to lose their remaining seven batters on zero inside 26 balls. From the skipper Ashton Turner to Hilton Cartwright, let alone the bowlers, the WA batters failed to add runs to the board, with the team collapsing like never before.

For Tasmania, lanky seamer Billy Stanlake returned with three wickets, while Tom Rogers picked one.&nbsp;

Tasmania opener Mitchell Owen began the onslaught, smashing two sixes and three fours in his 17-ball 29-run-stay at the crease, but lost his wicket just after Caleb Jewell’s dismissal on three. The left-arm pacer Joel Paris picked two wickets, including removing captain Jordan Silk on one.

Veteran keeper-batter Matthew Wade gave the finishing touches, scoring 21 off 13 balls as Tasmania chased 54 inside nine overs.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Tasmania won the toss and elected to bowl first against a star-studded WA side. After dismissing the openers (Aaron Hardie and D’Arcy Short) under 50, Tasmania had to deal with WA's long batting lineup, consisting of some Australia internationals. That wasn't a problem for the visitors, especially seamer Webster, who tore into their batting lineup to create history. For Tasmania, lanky seamer Billy Stanlake returned with three wickets, while Tom Rogers picked one. Tasmania chases with seven wickets remaining Tasmania opener Mitchell Owen began the onslaught, smashing two sixes and three fours in his 17-ball 29-run-stay at the crease, but lost his wicket just after Caleb Jewell’s dismissal on three. The left-arm pacer Joel Paris picked two wickets, including removing captain Jordan Silk on one. Veteran keeper-batter Matthew Wade gave the finishing touches, scoring 21 off 13 balls as Tasmania chased 54 inside nine overs. (With inputs from agencies)

Pakistan Cricket has been in the news for all good, bad and ugly reasons. Although their recent shallow on-field performances are enough to hog the limelight, their off-field tactics are also starting to make some noise. Head coach Jason Gillespie’s role has now been confined to ‘match-day strategy’, with the PCB snatching away his decision-making perk and reallocating it to the newly-formed selection committee.

On the eve of the third and final home Test against England in Rawalpindi, Gillespie revealed he had no role in the team selection for the second game in Multan, which Pakistan won and levelled the series.&nbsp;

Though the head coach and captain are part of the leadership group whose primary role is to make all the decisions, from the team selection to tactical changes on the field, Gillespie and Shan Masood were not part of the emergency meeting (with the new selection committee) after the first-Test disaster in Multan.

"The PCB came out and made some changes after that Test match. It was decided that a new selection panel would come in, and they would be making decisions. I was not involved in the decision-making; I was just there. I'm now just the coach on match-day strategy. I just keep out of things now and just focus on the players and getting them ready for cricket,” Gillespie said ahead of the third Test in Rawalpindi.

Despite his situation, Gillespie aims to work with the Test squad at the helm, trying to hone their skills and go for a Test series win against England.

Understanding the team’s position from what they have been through, the former Aussie quick admits any win is great.

"The last few years, Pakistan's Test cricket hasn't been where we'd like it to be. Any win is great, and any series win is fantastic. Just coming into this environment, as a coach, I'm very protective of players. They're the ones going out and representing their country. I suppose there's a dad in me that comes out, and I want to protect all the boys from all outside noise and whatever,” he continued.

It has&nbsp;not been a happy week for the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and its administration as the United States-based company was sued over “ring boys” sex abuse claims on Wednesday (Oct 23). The lawsuit also included former Chairman Vince McMahon and his wife in a major setback. This is not the first time WWE and its former chairman have hit the headlines for the wrong reasons. Earlier in the week, announcer Samantha Irvin also announced her departure from the company despite being one of the faces of the women’s division and a prominent ring announcer.

<h2>Lawsuit against WWE</h2>

In the new lawsuit, five men have alleged that the former chairman of WWE did nothing to stop them from being exploited and sexually abused as underaged “ring boys.”

The lawsuit was filed anonymously in a Maryland court against McMahon, his wife Linda, WWE and its parent company, TKO Group Holdings, in what is a big setback for the company.

According to the complaint, McMahons had an idea regarding the ring boys’ abuse but did not take the necessary actions to prevent the happenings. It also states that Melvin Phillips Jr, former WWE ring crew chief was also involved in the concerned matter.

Phillips died in 2012 but made the controversial rounds for having hired people as young as 12 and then getting abused. According to the lawsuit, the victims were forced to work with the ring crew in preparation for shows, and then groomed and abused them.

Interestingly, earlier this week Samantha Irvin, who was the ring announcer for the Monday Night Raw show announced her departure from the company. While her departure has no connection with the lawsuit, the development comes as a big setback for the WWE and its parent company TKO Group Holdings.

The company is yet to comment on the matter and is expected to respond soon after the lawsuit was filed in Maryland court.

Geoff Capes, two-time world's strongest man and British shot put record holder, dies at 75

A 27th minute tap-in from Darwin Nunez took Liverpool to a controlled 1-0 win at RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday, continuing their excellent start under new coach Arne Slot.

Liverpool broke through some early Leipzig pressure just before the half-hour mark when Mohamed Salah hit a perfect header across his body.

Nunez sprang forward to prod home the goal-bound ball, grabbing his first Champions League goal since February 2023.

Despite a late Leipzig flurry, Liverpool again showed the control and resilience that has taken them to the top of the Premier League table just days out from Sunday's clash at Arsenal.

"We're really happy for the win. We played a difficult away game. We controlled the game in large parts apart from the last few minutes," said Slot. &nbsp;"I asked for a goal. He (Darwin) gave us one but in the lead-up to the goal, Cody Gakpo was important and Mo Salah with an assist. It was a team goal. It's pleasing to see that Darwin did a really good job today."

Slot has won 11 of his first 12 games in charge in all competitions, the best start of any manager in Liverpool history, while Leipzig are now zero from three in Europe this season.

"With a bit of luck, maybe we could have taken a point," Leipzig goalie Peter Gulacsi said, adding: "In the Champions League, we've had no luck at all."

Both sides had impressed domestically this season on the back of strong defensive records, with Liverpool conceding three in eight Premier League games and Leipzig just two in seven.

Slot made three changes to the side which beat Chelsea 2-1 at home on Sunday, benching Andy Robertson and Curtis Jones for Kostas Tsimikas and Alexis Mac Allister, while Nunez replaced Diogo Jota.

Leipzig coach Marco Rose's starting XI made his intentions clear, the coach going for the all-out attack of Lois Openda, Xavi Simons, Benjamin Sesko and Antonio Nusa.

Rose's set-up worked early, with Leipzig pressing Liverpool hard and hitting them on the counter.

Sesko went close after 19 minutes, pouncing after Caoimhin Kelleher surged out of his box and failed to clear, but the big Slovenian's long-range effort curled just wide of the post.

Openda scored from well outside the box on the 26-minute mark but the Belgian's stunner was ruled out for offside.

Liverpool made Leipzig pay immediately, Nunez tapping in a goal-bound Salah header, just his second strike in nine appearances this season.

Nunez went inches from doubling up shortly after but his point-blank header was well saved by Gulacsi.

With one eye on Sunday's match at Arsenal, Liverpool tried to take the sting out of the game in the second half, controlling the match and keeping Leipzig at bay.

Salah was upset to be subbed with half an hour remaining, but by then Slot clearly had Arsenal in mind.

The home side rallied late, Openda again having a goal struck off for a clear offside, but Liverpool held on to make it three from three in the Champions League.
