Raphinha scored a stunning hat-trick as Barcelona hammered Bayern Munich 4-1 on Wednesday in a blockbuster Champions’ League group clash.

The Catalans had lost their last six games against Bayern but outplayed the six-time winners at the Olympic Stadium with Robert Lewandowski also on the scoresheet, while England star Harry Kane struck for the visitors.

Hansi Flick, who was in charge of the Bundesliga side in a humiliating 8-2 romp over Barca in 2020, led the Catalans to an emphatic triumph which indicated they may be capable of winning the trophy for the first time since 2015 after a decade of disappointment.

Defeat leaves Bayern with only one victory from their opening three group games and in the bottom half of the table, while Barcelona have two wins and are in the top third.

"In my opinion this game could have been a (Champions League) final, to be able to win it in this way, so well, in front of our fans, is quite special and I leave here happy," Raphinha told Movistar. "Getting the second victory in the Champions League was important and now we have to think about the game on Saturday."

Barcelona visit European and Spanish champions Real Madrid in a La Liga Clasico this weekend and warmed up for it in spectacular style.

"If you win this type of game you have to celebrate it, and for the team it's incredible," said Flick. "It gives us confidence to believe in ourselves ahead of Saturday."

Barcelona had not scored in their last four matches against Bayern but were ahead inside one minute, with Fermin Lopez playing Raphinha in behind the visitors' high line.

The Brazilian winger, on his 100th appearance for the club since joining from Leeds, and proudly sporting the captain's armband, stayed cool to dribble around Manuel Neuer and roll home.

Bayern poured forward in response and after having a goal ruled out for a tight offside, Kane struck in the 18th minute to level.

The striker finished acrobatically from Serge Gnabry's inviting cross with Barcelona's defence all at sea.

<h2>Relentless Raphinha</h2>

Barcelona recovered their composure and began to threaten, with former Bayern striker Lewandowski firing wide and Lamine Yamal sliding in to tackle Neuer but seeing the ball roll beyond the post.

Joshua Kimmich was booked for taking out Lopez, who was charging into space in Bayern territory.

The Barcelona midfielder, a ball of energy, created his team's second for Lewandowski. Lopez left Kim Min-jae for dead with a clever nudge, which Bayern complained about to no avail, before knocking the ball across for Lewandowski to turn home.

The veteran Polish striker, 36, has been the chief beneficiary of Flick's arrival after struggling last season and now has 15 goals in 13 appearances.

The unstoppable Raphinha rattled home a superb third before the interval, driving into the area after Marc Casado spread the play out to the left flank and arcing a shot through Dayot Upamecano's legs and beyond the reach of Neuer at full stretch.

Raphinha completed his hat-trick 10 minutes into the second half, controlling Yamal's ambitious pass brilliantly on his chest while on the sprint, before planting a rasping effort into the bottom right corner from the edge of the box.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany reacted with a quadruple substitution, bringing on four household names in Jamal Musiala, Kingsley Coman, Leroy Sane and Leon Goretzka.

At 4-1 up Barcelona's fans began to cheer their team's passes as Bayern chased the ball.

"For the fans, I think it was revenge," said Raphinha, looking back at Barca's defeats by Bayern. "As a fan I suffered through those games too."

The winger was thrown up in the air by his team-mates at full-time, clutching his match ball.

Having not reached the Champions League semi-finals since 2019, belief is starting to grow in Catalonia that Flick could help restore their position among Europe's elite.

Bayern, semi-finalists last season, were left licking their wounds.

"The whole team gave 100 percent. So, there's no question about effort, but 100 percent was not enough today," admitted Kompany. "(In the first half) it felt like we could edge this game, that it could turn for us.

"But in key moments we got outdone and for that reason the result is fairly heavy."

Ashwin gave India the first breakthrough by removing New Zealand captain Tom Latham, trapped in front on 15. Next, he removed Will Young, caught by Rishabh Pant on 18, before getting the big wicket in player-in-form Devon Conway, caught behind on 76.

Conway’s wicket was the moment he surpassed Lyon on the overall tally.&nbsp;

However, his fellow offie, Washington Sundar, picked two wickets just on the stroke of lunch, removing the dangerous-looking Rachin Ravindra on 65 and keeper-batter Tom Blundell on just three, both deliveries being unplayable.&nbsp;

South Africa is back in the race for the top-two finish in the World Test Championship (WTC) rankings for the current cycle, with a seven-wicket win over Bangladesh in the first Test in Dhaka. Early on day four, the Proteas wrapped up Bangladesh’s second innings on 307, with seamer Kagiso Rabada returning with six wickets, overall nine in the match. Chasing 106, the visitors lost three wickets but achieved their target in 22 overs.

This win in Dhaka is South Africa's first in Asia since 2014 and second in Bangladesh, the first since 2008 in Chattogram, where they won by an innings and 205 runs.

With a PCT of 47.61%, they leapfrogged New Zealand, who took the number four spot earlier following their first Test win in India in 36 years in their previous match.&nbsp;

For the Proteas to confirm their top-two finish, they must win their remaining five Tests, which will see them attain a PCT of 69.44% (assuming no-point deduction on slower over rates).

However, four wins from five matches will read their PCT 61.11%, giving them a greater chance of making their maiden WTC Final, but that would also depend on other results of Australia, India and Sri Lanka.

<h2>Rabada stars in Dhaka</h2>

The ace seamer Rabada was the star for South Africa in the first Test, returning with nine wickets in the game. Rabada picked his 300th Test wicket in the first innings, taking 11,817 balls to reach the milestone – the fewest for any bowler. His strike rate of 39.2 at the end of Bangladesh’s first innings in Mirpur is the best among all bowlers who have picked 300 or more Test wickets, with former pacer Dale Steyn second on the list with a 42.3 strike rate.

South Africa dismissed Bangladesh on 106 in the first innings and, in reply, scored 308, taking a 202-run lead. Kyle Verreynne scored his maiden Test hundred, while Taijul Islam picked five wickets. In the second innings, Bangladesh was reduced to 112 for six at one stage but went on to score 307, thanks to a brilliant 97 by Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Rabada was the star in the second innings for the Proteas.

Chasing 106, South Africa openers Tony de Zorzi and Aiden Markram added 42 for the first wicket, setting the tone. Taijul picked two wickets but failed to inspire his team to a win, resulting in South Africa taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.&nbsp;

Chattogram will host the second Test starting October 29.

South Africa jump to 4th position in WTC standings with victory in first Test against Bangladesh

India made three changes to the playing XI for the second Test against New Zealand in Pune, including dropping underfire batter KL Rahul. A day after head coach Gautam Gambhir said the management would back Rahul in the Test side, India benched him alongside Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj.&nbsp;

India included fit-again Shubman Gill, who replaced Rahul, Washington Sundar for Kuldeep Yadav and Akash Deep for seamer Mohammed Siraj. Meanwhile, New Zealand, who won the toss and elected to bat first, also changed their line-up, bringing in spin-bowling all-rounder Mitchell Santner for injured Matt Henry.

Here are the playing XIs of both teams -

India: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma(c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant(w), Sarfaraz Khan, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Akash Deep and&nbsp;Jasprit Bumrah

New Zealand: Tom Latham(c), Devon Conway, Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Blundell(w), Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Ajaz Patel and&nbsp;William ORourke

<h2>Three changes for Pune Test</h2>

After losing the first Test in Bengaluru, the Indian Team asked for a rank-turner in the second in Pune in their quest to make a comeback in this series. Given the surface on offer, India was bound to play an extra spinner, and with Sundar’s inclusion to the squad right after the first match, it became evident that India would play him.&nbsp;

On the other hand, KL Rahul, who failed to deliver in Bengaluru, was dropped, despite Gambhir going public about management backing him in the Test side with the Border-Gavaskar series looming. The right-handed batter faced flak for his poor home run in this format, with the fans taking to social media asking for his exclusion from the playing XI.

Answering all such queries surrounding Rahul’s Test future, Gautam Gambhir said, “You don't pick players on social media because of social media or for that matter even what the experts are saying. What the team management thinks and what the leadership group thinks is very, very important. Ultimately, everyone is judged.

“International cricket is all about being judged, to be honest, because everyone's performance will be judged eventually. But I feel that he [Rahul] is batting really well.&nbsp;

“Obviously, he has had a decent knock in Kanpur [against Bangladesh] obviously, on a difficult wicket. And obviously, he played according to the plans as well. And I am sure, I think, he would also be knowing that he wants to score big runs, and he has that capability of scoring runs. That's why he has been backed by the team management,” Gambhir said in the pre-match presser.

Siraj was another high-profile player dropped from the XI for the ongoing game due to his dry run at home. Akash Deep, who impressed everyone in his brief Test career, replaced him in the XI.

As things stand, New Zealand are 32 for one, with Ravichandran Ashwin picking NZ captain Tom Latham trapped in front in his first over.&nbsp;

The next edition of the Commonwealth Games will be held in 2026 with a trimmed&nbsp;roster of 10 sports, following the exclusion of cricket, hockey, wrestling, badminton and shooting. Thus, the 23rd edition -- to be from July 23 to August 2 in Glasgow -- will be held without a number of sports in a bid to remain budget-friendly. This move is set to impact India's medal chances, who have been top contenders in sports such as cricket, badminton, hockey, etc.

The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has confirmed the reduction in the sporting events, with the Glasgow 2026 Games featuring a trimmed schedule. The 2022 edition was held with 19 sports in Birmingham. Sports like&nbsp;table tennis, squash, and road racing have also been excluded.

In a statement, the CGF mentioned the sports program, including Athletics and Para Athletics (Track &amp; Field), Swimming and Para Swimming, Artistic Gymnastics, Track Cycling and Para Track Cycling, Netball, Weightlifting and Para Powerlifting, Boxing, Judo, Bowls and Para Bowls, and 3—3 Basketball and 3—3 Wheelchair Basketball. Notably, shooting wasn't part of the 2022 edition as well, due to logistical&nbsp;reasons.

Initially, Victoria was set to host&nbsp;the Games, however,&nbsp;withdrew&nbsp;last year due to financial issues. Glasgow, thus, stepped&nbsp;in to host the quadrennial multi-sport games in 2026. This also marks Glasgow's return as the host city after 12 years, after the 2014 edition.

The forthcoming Games will take place across four venues: Scotstoun Stadium, Tollcross International Swimming Centre, Emirates Arena (including the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome), and the Scottish Event Campus (SEC). The athletes and their support staff will be provided hotel accommodation as well.

For India, the news of the now-removed sports is a huge loss. Overall, hockey (more than five medals), wrestling (114 medals across categories), shooting (135 medals), badminton (31 medals) and cricket (where the women's team won silver in 2022) have been the prime reasons for India's stronghold in CWG history. In 2022, India won 61 medals, out of which 30 came from the now-removed sports.

CWG 2026: Huge blow to India! Cricket, hockey, badminton and wrestling dropped from mega event

Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik on Tuesday (Oct 22) alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Babita Phogat was one of the prime figures behind the 2023 wrestlers' protest. Sakshi, one of the faces behind the agitation, along with Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, claimed that they were helped by Babita and Tirath Rana to get permission for the protest.&nbsp;According to Sakshi, Babita’s motive was to dethrone then Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who was accused of sexual harassment by wrestlers.

<h2>Sakshi makes massive revelation</h2>

“Babita Phogat approached us with the idea of protesting against Brij Bhushan Singh because she had her own agenda — she wanted to become the WFI president. There are rumours that Congress supported our protest, but that’s false. In fact, two BJP leaders helped us secure permission to protest in Haryana – Babita Phogat and Tirath Rana,” Malik said while speaking to India Today.

In 2023, the wrestlers’ protest occupied political centrestage, with more than 40 athletes protesting against WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who was a MP from the ruling party BJP. The protest started in January 2023, with Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat (Babita's cousin sister) leading the protest.

The revelation has sparked a huge debate, raising a potential conflict between Babita and Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who both belong to the BJP. Since the wrestlers’ protest, plenty of water has flown under the bridge, with Vinesh qualifying for the gold medal match of the women’s 50kg category at the Paris Olympics before being disqualified for being overweight. On the other hand, Bajrang was unable to secure qualification for the Paris Games.

Interestingly, Vinesh later joined the opposition party Indian National Congress (INC), contested the Haryana assembly elections, and won from the Julana seat with over 6000 votes on her political and electoral debut.

Ace India keeper-batter Rishabh Pant is declared fit to play the second Test against New Zealand in Pune starting Thursday (Oct 24). The left-handed batter suffered a blow to his right knee while keeping during Kiwi’s first innings in Bengaluru, with spare gloveman Dhruv Jurel asked to replace him on the field.&nbsp;

Though Jurel impressed with some exceptional glove work throughout, Pant made inroads with the bat in hand in the second innings. His 99-run knock, part of a 177-run stand with centurion Sarfaraz Khan, blew the roof off at the M Chinnaswamy.

At first, it looked worse, suggesting Pant could be out of the first Test if not the series, but he came to bat&nbsp;fighting knee pain. The star batter took his time before unleashing an attack after lunch. Pant took the attack to the opposition in the second session, accelerating India’s innings, with their scorecard at one stage reading 408 for three.&nbsp;

Given India’s position after their first-inning debacle, where they got all out on their lowest team total at home (46) in Tests, surpassing the 356-run deficit and piling up runs was a massive effort. Pant’s contribution played a vital role, which saw him smashing nine fours and five maximums, including a monstrous 107m off Tim Southee.

Per a report in The Indian Express, Pant is fit to play the second Test in Pune. The hosts, however, are expected to make a few changes to the playing XI for the next game. Shubman Gill&nbsp;will be roped in if he is fit, and Akash Deep is likely to replace Mohammed Siraj.

With Washington Sundar’s inclusion and the latest reports suggesting that the board has asked for rank-turner for the second match, Rohit could be tempted to play another spin bowler ahead of a seamer.

<h2>‘Careful with Pant’</h2>

After the first match in Bengaluru, Rohit addressed Pant’s injury status, saying considering what he has undergone in the past year (out of action following a horrific car crash in December 2022), the management is careful with his injury and workload.

“He’s (Rishabh Pant) had a massive operation on his leg, so we all know what he went through,” Rohit had said after the first Test. “He’s had a lot of minor surgeries, one big surgery on his knee, and he went through a lot of trauma, to be honest, in the last one and a half years. So, it’s just about being extra careful, not careful with him. Even when he was batting, he was not comfortably running. He was trying to only put the ball in the stands,” the India captain said.&nbsp;

J.T. Poston survived late pressure from Doug Ghim, firing five birdies in a four-under par 67 to claim the third US PGA Tour title of his career on Sunday in Las Vegas, Nevada. Poston, 31 and ranked 64th in the world, finished with a 22-under par total of 262 at TPC Summerlin, to beat Ghim by one stroke. Ghim had an eagle and four birdies in his six-under par 65, including a six-foot birdie at the last that put him on 21-under 263.

Poston, tied for the lead when darkness halted play on Saturday, birdied three of his last five holes to complete a five-under par third-round 66 on Sunday morning to take a three-stroke lead over Ghim into the final round. The tournament had been in catch-up mode since dangerous winds led to a four-hour delay on Friday.

Ghim had cut the deficit to one stroke with an 11-foot eagle at the par-five ninth. But Poston rolled in a 21-foot birdie at the 12th and made a three-foot birdie at the par-five 13th to push his lead back to three.

Poston added a birdie at 15, but Ghim kept the pressure on with a birdie at the par-five 16th and Poston missed a four-foot par putt to bogey the par-three 17th and send them to the 18th tee with Poston's lead down to two strokes.

That proved to be enough. After Ghim drained his birdie putt, Poston stepped up to make his four-footer for par to claim his first victory since the 2022 John Deere Classic.

"I just told myself this is what you dream of -- you've got a putt to win on the PGA Tour," Poston said, adding that he'd "just tried to forget" about poor putts on 16 and 17. "Didn't make very good strokes on either of them, but I just told myself I've made a million and (Ghim is) in this. Do one more."

Ghim, 28 and ranked 148th in the world, remains in search of his first PGA Tour title. Germany's Matti Schmid and Rico Hoey of the Philippines both carded five-under par 66 to share third place on 19-under 265.

American Michael Kim roared up the leaderboard with a final-round 62 for an 18-under par total of 266, sharing fifth with Davis Thompson and South Korea's Lee Kyoung-hoon, who both shot 66.&nbsp;South Korean Tom Kim, the 2022 and 2023 champion, missed the cut in his bid for a three-peat.

England white-ball captain Jos Buttler has been ruled out of the one-day international leg of the upcoming tour of the West Indies after suffering a fresh injury setback, officials said Monday.

The England and Wales Cricket Board announced earlier this month that Buttler would return from a lengthy injury lay-off to lead the side in three ODIs, starting with the series opener in Antigua on October 31.

But an ECB statement issued Monday said Buttler would miss the ODIs after suffering "a slight setback in his rehabilitation" from a calf problem.&nbsp;

The wicketkeeper-batsman is, however, expected to join the tour party in Barbados ahead of the five-match T20 series, which begins on November 9.

Liam Livingstone will step up as captain for the ODI series, with the Lancashire all-rounder set to lead England for the first time.&nbsp;

Virgil van Dijk said he is in "discussions with the right people" over his Liverpool future as the club captain moves into the final months of his contract.

The Dutchman is one of a number of high-profile players at Anfield whose deals expire at the end of the season, with uncertainty also surrounding the futures of Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

As it stands, the trio will be able to discuss pre-contract terms with overseas clubs from January, but Van Dijk said he is in talks over extending his stay at Anfield.

"What the future brings I have no idea at the moment... discussions are ongoing with the right people and when it's time to make a decision or whatever, I think you guys (the media) will know it as well," he said. "But now full commitment and focus is on Liverpool and to be successful this season. So, we will see."

"Everyone can have their opinion but I know, like I think a lot of people know, opinions can change every three days now in terms of (people saying) someone can win the league and someone can't," Van Dijk said. &nbsp;"I think there is no point listening to any of that. I don't do that.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk confirms discussions over contract extension underway ‘with right people’

After losing to New Zealand in the first Test in Bengaluru by eight wickets, the Indian Team gears up for the next game in Pune, for which the hosts have asked to prepare a spin web. Per the latest reports, the Pune pitch, loaded with black soil, will have a lower bounce, suggesting a flatter and slower surface for the second game.

India got all out on 46 in the first innings of the first Test—their lowest Test total at home and third-lowest overall—with the&nbsp;Zealand seamers wreaking&nbsp;havoc on the seam-friendly surface with overcast overhead conditions assisting. Though India returned stronger in the second innings, hitting 462, the Kiwi seamers returned with 17 of the 20 wickets in two outings.

On the other hand, the Indian seamers returned with only five wickets, with the spinners picking up wickets in bulk. Considering a loss in the first Test affected their PCT on the WTC standings for the current cycle, if not their position, the hosts know they need to buckle up and aim for their last series win of this home season.

The latest reports suggest that the remaining two matches in Pune and Mumbai will be spin-friendly, with veteran pair Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin coming to the party. However, the only difference between the pitches at both venues will be the bounce, with Wankhede’s red soil to offer a tad extra.

Meanwhile, the BCCI had planned a similar surface for the first Test, but the overhead conditions in Bengaluru changed the whole scenario.

The Indian Team might make a few changes to their playing XI for the second Test. The hosts might bring Akash Deep for Mohammed Siraj or add another all-rounder in either Axar Patel or Washington Sundar for Siraj or out-of-form KL Rahul.

Besides, India will have to take a call on Shubman Gill, who missed the first Test with a stiff neck and was replaced by Sarfaraz Khan, who slammed his maiden hundred in the second innings.

Meanwhile, it is the third Test at this venue. The first was the famous Pune game between India and Australia, with the Australians winning by 333 runs. The left-arm spinner Steve O’Keefe returned with 12 wickets in that game. The next match, however, took place two years later against South Africa, which India won, thanks to a double hundred by Virat Kohli.

India got all out on 46 in the first innings of the first Test—their lowest Test total at home and third-lowest overall—with the Zealand seamers wreaking havoc on the seam-friendly surface with overcast overhead conditions assisting. Though India returned stronger in the second innings, hitting 462, the Kiwi seamers returned with 17 of the 20 wickets in two outings. ALSO READ: Mohammed Shami is 100% pain-free but eyes Ranji games before Australia tour On the other hand, the Indian seamers returned with only five wickets, with the spinners picking up wickets in bulk. IND v NZ 2024, 2nd Test: India to prepare spin web in Pune after Bengaluru setback

Ace India seamer Mohammed Shami has confirmed that he is 100% pain-free now and wishes to play for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy to get match-ready for the Australia Tour that begins on November 22.

Out with an ankle injury since the home ODI World Cup last year, Shami bowled full throttle at the M Chinnaswamy in Bengaluru on Sunday (Oct 20) for the first time since, indicating he is ready to roar back into the Test side for the marquee series Down Under.

"It felt great yesterday because I had been bowling with half a run-up on and off since I can't put too much stress on my body," he said during an event organised by Eugenix Hair Sciences in Gurugram. "Yesterday, we decided that I would bowl properly, and I gave my 100%. It felt great, [and] the results are good. Hopefully, I'll be back on track soon."

When asked if he’s pain-free, having gone under the knife earlier in February, Shami said 100%. The right-arm seamer, however, has a whole month to attain match fitness and fight for a spot in the XI for the first Test in Perth.

"The Australia series is still far away. The only thing I want to focus on is how to keep myself fit, and how strong I can be before going there. I know what kind of an attack we want for that Test series, so it's better I spend some more time on the ground before going. If I get fit and I get a gap of eight to 10 days, then it's better I play one or two domestic matches before going to Australia."

"I don't know when I can play next, but the day I feel comfortable about bowling 20-30 overs and I get the nod from the doctors, I'll run to play a match. I want to spend as much time as I can on the ground before going for the Australia series,” he continued.

<h2>Life between fitness and frustration</h2>

Talking about his time off the field, Shami reflected on what good it did to his mindset, helping him become more patient and realise how much fitness matters to a cricketer.&nbsp;

"Don't get frustrated and focus as much as you can on fitness and game," he said about spending months off the field. "It's very difficult to come back on track after an injury, so patience is the biggest thing. Injuries teach you patience, and that makes your skill purer."

"Fitness is the main thing [you have to focus on in recovery]. You shouldn't doubt your skill and talent when you're away because certain things are built in you. I agree you need something like rhythm, but your skill will never leave you. It's your fitness you have to fight for,” he added.

Tennis: Coco Gauff-led USA drawn with Canada at season-opening United Cup

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni remains undecided on his IPL future yet, according to the franchise’s CEO Kasi Viswanathan, who says that they hope he (Dhoni) gives his confirmation before the submission deadline (Oct 31). Per the latest reports, CSK's top brass is awaiting Dhoni’s decision before listing their retention list ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction later next month.

"We have still no confirmation from him, though we will like him to continue playing for us," Viswanathan said in a chat with ESPNcricinfo. "Hope he will confirm before 31st [October]."

Meanwhile, the IPL’s governing council and the BCCI kept October 31 as the deadline for all teams to submit their final retention list.&nbsp;

With the reintroduction of an IPL rule, scrapped in 2021, any player who last played for his country at least five years ago is eligible to play as an uncapped player. MS Dhoni, who announced his international retirement on August 20, 2020, ticks this box, becoming eligible to play as an uncapped player for CSK should he be retained.

While Dhoni’s last international tournament was the 2019 ODI World Cup in England, which the hosts won, Dhoni played in the cash-rich league since.&nbsp;

Before the start of IPL 2024, Dhoni relinquished the CSK captaincy, handing over the baton to opener Ruturaj Gaikwad. In his first season as the new CSK skipper, Gaikwad failed to guide CSK to the playoffs.

MS Dhoni, however, with a troubled knee, scored 161 runs at a whopping strike rate of 220 as a finisher.

<h2>For how much can CSK retain MS Dhoni?</h2>

Should MS give a green signal about his IPL 2025 participation, CSK would retain their former captain for just INR 4 crore from the 120-crore auction purse.

All 10 IPL teams are allowed to retain a maximum of six players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, of which a maximum of five can be capped internationals, leaving room for an uncapped player.&nbsp;

Besides, the IPL has set the minimum deduction from the purse auction for each player retained (order wise) – with the first player to cost a franchise INR 18 crore, the second INR 14 crore, INR 11 crore for the third one, INR 18 crore for the next, and INR 14 crore for the fifth and final player, though the teams are free to pay more than these figures to their retained players.

Last-year runners-up, SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), is the only team to have made their retention list public, with them paying INR 23 crore to Heinrich Klaasen, INR 18 crore to their captain Pat Cummins, and INR 14 crore to opener Abhishek Sharma.&nbsp;

The India-A all-rounder Ramandeep Singh produced one of the greatest catches of recent times. That catch, however, turned the momentum in India’s favour, as they eventually defended 184 in the marquee clash, winning the match by seven runs.

Whatever the result in Dubai on Sunday, there will be a new name on the trophy when New Zealand line up against South Africa in the final of the Women's T20 World Cup.

Australia's dominance over the years, winning six of the eight previous tournaments has restricted the opportunities for anyone else.

Only England, in the inaugural tournament in 2009, and West Indies in 2016 have seen them off.

It promises to be a fitting finale to a competition that has produced some excellent - and some middling - cricket after it was switched at short notice to the United Arab Emirates following political unrest in Bangldesh where it was due to take place.

Apart from bringing new interest to the women's game, Sunday's final will also pit the two sides that have played the canniest and most courageous cricket over the competition.

Unlike others they have also largely held their catches, although the White Ferns did make life more awkward for themselvees in their semi-final win over the West Indies by dropping Deandra Dottin twice. Not many teams get away with that.

After making just 128-9, which even on a slow Sharjah pitch felt 10 to 15 runs short, the Kiwis defended that total superbly against a batting line-up which, as England found to their discomfort in their winner-takes-all group match, that takes no prisoners.

Amelia Kerr, the leading wicket-taker for the tournament with 12, and Eden Carson bowled superbly, leading skipper Sophie Devine to look optimistically towards the final.

"We are really excited about the final. We have nothing to lose and that is a great space to be," said Devine who was in the team that lost to Australia by three runs in the 2010 final, the latter of New Zealand's two previous finals.

"We are going to win this thing now."

<h2>'Incredible' South Africa</h2>

The South Africans have also grown in the last 12 months with that trio of players at the forefront of the batting while Nonkululeko Mlaba, equal second highest wicket-taker with 10, has led the bowling attack with strong backing, especially from Kapp and Ayabonga Khaka.

"I'm just incredibly proud of everyone and the team and just the way that we approached this whole World Cup and how we've played throughout," said Bosch after her match-winning knock.

"I think we kind of said we haven't played our best game yet and probably still haven't. But hopefully we're leaving it for the finals now."

ALSO READ: Women's T20 World Cup Final, SA vs NZ Live Streaming: When & how to watch South Africa vs New Zealand Live It promises to be a fitting finale to a competition that has produced some excellent - and some middling - cricket after it was switched at short notice to the United Arab Emirates following political unrest in Bangldesh where it was due to take place. "We are going to win this thing now." ‘Don’t leave tennis, man’ – Novak Djokovic bids goodbye to Rafael Nadal after ‘amazing rivalry’

On-fire Lionel Messi scored his second hat-trick of the week and Luis Suarez scored twice as Inter Miami beat the New England Revolution 6-2 to smash MLS's regular season points record. Miami's win, in their final game of the regular season, took them to 74 points - one more than the previous record, set by New England in 2021.

Messi, who came off the bench in the 58th minute and led the late flurry of goals, has now scored 20 goals in 19 appearances in MLS with his former Barcelona team-mate Suarez also notching 20, from 27 games.

The challenge of breaking the record added some spice to the final game of the regular season with Inter having already secured the Supporters' Shield for the best record in the regular season to stamp themselves clear favourites in the MLS Cup playoffs which start next week.

Miami had trailed 2-0 before Suarez scored twice before half-time to send Gerardo Martino's team in level at the interval.

Goals from Argentine Luca Langoni and Colombian Dylan Borrero in the 34th minute had the home crowd chanting for Messi's introduction from the bench but it was Uruguayan Suarez who began the comeback.

A firm left-foot finish from the former Liverpool and Barcelona striker, pulled one back, after good work from David Martinez.

Then Suarez levelled with a fine solo finish, making space for himself and switching to his right foot before drilling home.

Messi, who had scored a hat-trick for Argentina against Bolivia on Tuesday, came off the bench in the 58th minute and immediately helped put the team ahead finding Jordi Alba who set up Benjamin Cremaschi for a tap-in.

New England thought they had drawn level with a goal from striker Bobby Wood but the effort was disallowed for handball following a VAR review.

Messi then made it 4-2, collecting a back-heeled pass from Suarez before brilliantly blasting into the far bottom corner.

The Argentine was on target again when he latched on to a superb pass from Jordi Alba and made no mistake and then he completed his hat-trick in the 89th minute when he met a volleyed cross from Suarez with a precise first time finish.

Messi's three goals came within an 11-minute spell and after his two-month injury absence after the Copa America he now looks back to his best.

<h2>'Ideal situation'</h2>

"After the major injury we had to be very careful with his recovery and reintegration into the team and both the national team and ourselves here were very careful with that issue," said Martino. "I have the feeling that we have him in an ideal situation to face the most important part of the year," added the Argentine.

Martino said that while Miami needed to cut out some of their errors, the squad head into the playoffs on a high after breaking the points record.

"For the team this is another boost of confidence. These 74 points were not something we had planned, or had as a goal when the season started, but when it was in front of us, we tried to go for it," he said.

At the post-game celebration of the Supporters Shield success, club co-owners David Beckham and Jorge Mas were joined by FIFA president Gianni Infantino who announced that the Shield had earned the team a place in the 2025 Club World Cup.

Elsewhere in the last round of the regular season in MLS, Montreal clinched a place in the playoffs with a 2-0 win over New York City.

The victory secured eighth place in the Eastern Conference and the Canadian side will play ninth-placed Atlanta United in the wildcard round on Tuesday for a chance to play Miami in the first round.

Atlanta took the final spot in the East with a 2-1 win at Orlando City.

Lionel Messi hits another hat-trick as Inter Miami break MLS points record – WATCH

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane scored a hat-trick to steer his team to a 4-0 victory over visiting VfB Stuttgart on Saturday, snapping their three-game winless run across all competitions and keeping them top of the Bundesliga.

Kane, who had missed a golden chance in front of goal in the 51st minute, broke the deadlock six minutes later, rifling in from outside the box.

The England captain, who had not scored in his previous two Bundesliga games, the loss to Aston Villa in the Champions League or the recent two England matches earlier in October, then drilled in following a goal mouth scramble on the hour.

He secured his hat-trick in the 80th minute with his eighth league goal of the season after Joao Palhinha's shot was blocked with substitute Kingsley Coman curling in Bayern's fourth goal in the 89th.

"To be honest, I didn't waste any second thinking about whether he scored or not (in past games)," Bayern coach Vincent Kompany told a press conference. "I know what qualities he has. He's always hungry, even in training. Sometimes we forget how hard Harry works for the team. He has always scored.

"I am happy with how the game went. I was not surprised that it was not easy and at halftime the main thing for us was to stay calm."

Bayern had midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic taken off after eight minutes with a broken collarbone that will sideline the Germany international for several weeks according to the club.

But they still had control of the game but could not make their dominance count in the first half.

Stuttgart, last season's runners-up, gradually ran out of steam and could no longer keep up after the break when Bayern struck three times in 23 minutes with Kane, now on eight goals in the league, to kill off the game.

The visitors' best chance was in the 53rd minute when Josha Vagnoman missed the target, firing over the bar from 10 metres out.

The Bavarians are top of the standings on 17 points, ahead on goal difference of RB Leipzig, winners 2-0 at Mainz 05.

Freiburg are third on 15 with champions Bayer Leverkusen in fourth a point behind after their 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Harry Kane’s 6th Bundesliga hat-trick powers Bayern Munich to demolish Stuttgart in one-sided affair

Mikel Arteta admitted Arsenal's shock 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth was an "accident waiting to happen" as William Saliba's red card condemned them to a first Premier League loss since April.

Arteta's title-chasing side played for an hour with 10 men after French defender Saliba was dismissed for a professional foul on Evanilson.

Referee Rob Jones initially showed Saliba a yellow card but the punishment was upgraded to a red after VAR intervened.

It was the third time Arsenal had a player sent off in the league this season after Declan Rice saw red against Brighton and Leandro Trossard was dismissed at Manchester City.

Arteta conceded the disciplinary problems were making it harder to win, with Arsenal taking just two points from the three games played with 10 men.

"It's very difficult to win in the Premier League with 10 men for 60 minutes. It's just an accident waiting to happen. We have had to go through it in three games and that cost us the game," he said. "We had the big chance and the moment in the game to score and have a different result and then we conceded a goal.

"We try to stick to the rules. The three red cards have been different ones and three very different outcomes."

Beaten in the league for the first time since Aston Villa's 2-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium last season, Arsenal's loss cost them the chance to go above Liverpool at the top of the table.

Arteta acknowledged his third-placed team were below their best for long periods at the Vitality Stadium.

"The team tried, the effort with 10 men was fantastic but today it was not enough to win the game," he said. "It took us a while to understand what we had do in the first 15 minutes, then we grabbed the game but after 30 minutes the game changed."

Arsenal midfielder Rice was even more honest in his assessment of the lethargic performance.

Trossard's wayward pass was the trigger for Saliba's dismissal as the centre-back was forced to make a panicked tug on Evanilson.

It was a careless mistake by Trossard and Rice said Arsenal must stamp out that kind of blunder if they want to mount another title challenge.

"We've kicked ourselves in the foot three times in eight games and we got away with it at home to Brighton and away at Manchester City. Bournemouth kept probing and made it 2-0," Rice said. "I'm proud of the players for fighting, even with 10 men, but the naivety, we need to stop making mistakes because you want 11 players for 90 minutes and that's what wins you football matches.

"We can't make silly mistakes. You need all your best players on the pitch at all times. The belief is so high and we will stick together."

Olympian Joshua Cheptegei lived up to his billing to take home the men’s crown. At the same time, Alemaddis Eyayu pushed pre-race favourite Cynthia Limo behind for a surprise win in the women’s race in Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon, a World Athletics Gold Label Road Race, in New Delhi on Sunday.

Kenya’s Alex Matata (27) led a major part of the race with his teammate Nicholas Kipkorir, who ran his maiden half marathon internationally. Kipkorir was a bronze medalist in the 5 km World Championships last year.

Matata was unbeaten in all three races he took part in in Europe earlier this year, clocking&nbsp; sub-60 minutes in two of them.&nbsp;That made the race exciting, and everyone was looking for fast finish timing from the men’s winner.&nbsp;Matata kept&nbsp;the lead until the runners turned towards the finish line in the Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium, where the race commenced less than an hour earlier to decide the 2024 title.&nbsp;Cheptegei, running seconds behind the Kenyan, realized the now-or-never situation and came from behind to snatch the lead from Matata to win in 59 minutes 46 seconds. Matata (59:53) and Kipkorir (59:59) completed the podium with the Ugandan.&nbsp;

Incidentally, the Vedanta Delhi half marathon was one of the fastest races in the World and usually saw incredible timings by the participants. Ethiopian Deriba Merga was the first to post a sub-60-minute winning time in 2008, when all the podium finishers dipped under 1 hour. This action was repeated several times in some of the subsequent editions at Delhi, wherein 2014 witnessed a record number of nine runners finishing within 60 minutes.

Former world champion Muktar Edris from Ethiopia, another pre-race favourite, finished fifth (60:52), while Tanzania’s Alphonce Simbu (60:40) got the fourth place.&nbsp;

Delhi Half Marathon: Joshua Cheptegei takes home crown, Alemaddis Eyayu stuns Cynthia Limo

India lost a home Test to New Zealand for the first time in 36 years, drawing flak from fans over a few poor decisions, including batting first on day two, which saw them getting all out on their lowest Test total (46) at home. Though they tried making up for it with a massive effort in the second innings (scoring 462), New Zealand’s first-innings lead of 356 turned out too much for the hosts.

Sarfaraz Khan and Rishabh Pant were the heroes with the bat in hand, scoring 150 and 99, respectively, but India could only set a target of 107 runs, and conceded the match inside the first session on day five, with New Zealand winning by eight wickets.

With India losing the first Test of the series, how will this impact their standings on the WTC table, and what do they have to do to seal a place in the final for the third straight time?&nbsp;

<h2>India on WTC standing</h2>

Despite losing the first Test in Bengaluru, India remain&nbsp;in the&nbsp;top spot, with a PCT of 68.06, Australia second (62.50), followed by Sri Lanka (55.56) at third. New Zealand&nbsp;climbed to the fourth spot with 44.44 PCT, gaining 12 points from their maiden Test win on Indian soil in over three decades.

Although India remains favourites to qualify for the WTC 2025 Final next year at the Lord’s in June, their current position doesn’t guarantee that. For India to make it to the WTC Final, they have to win at least six of the seven remaining matches (two against New Zealand and five versus Australia Down Under) in this cycle, which will see their points percentage reaching the maximum of 74.56, which only Australia can exceed.

In case India loses two matches and wins the remaining five, the maximum PCT they can attain is 69.3, which Australia and South Africa can overtake. For India to avoid getting into this situation, they must win five and draw one.&nbsp;

<h3>Who are India’s competitors?</h3>

Australia, Sri Lanka, South Africa and New Zealand (by virtue of this win in Bengaluru) can trouble India with certain results going their way.

If India loses three matches from here, the best PCT they can have is 64.04, a tally that four pairs—Australia &amp; South Africa, Sri Lanka &amp; New Zealand, South Africa &amp; New Zealand, and Australia &amp; New Zealand—can overtake.

Meanwhile, in two cases, where India wins four matches and draws one or wins five games and draws one, they will more or less qualify for the WTC Final.

Pune will host the second Test between India and New Zealand starting Thursday (Oct 24).&nbsp;

Explained: India’s chances of qualifying for WTC Final after losing Bengaluru Test to New Zealand

India captain Rohit Sharma said the hosts would give it all in the remaining two matches against New Zealand following conceding the Bengaluru game by eight wickets. Speaking to the broadcaster after the first Test that ended with the Kiwis winning it by eight wickets inside the first session on day five, Rohit said it was never easy to come back from getting all out on 46 in the first innings, but Sarfaraz Khan and Rishabh Pant’s heroics in the second innings kept them in the game.

The skipper lauded the two run-scores for showing maturity while batting in the third innings, with the team trailing by 356 runs. Although India took the lead with seven wickets remaining (at that time), a late strike from New Zealand seamers dented their momentum, removing their last seven wickets for just 54 runs.

“It was a good effort in the second innings with bat. We knew what lies ahead, get as many as possible. A couple of guys stood out, was great to watch. When you're 350 behind, can't think too much. Just have to try and bat the ball and see where the game goes,” Rohit said after the first Test.

“(It) was exciting to watch partnerships get us into the game. We could've easily been bowled under 350, it's something we're proud of. Everyone's on the edge of the seat when Pant and Sarfaraz bat. Pant's was a mature innings, he's done it for a while, he played his shots too,” the skipper lauded Rishabh Pant for his fabulous 99 in the second innings.

Speaking of Sarfaraz, who came in as the last-minute replacement for injured Shubman Gill, Rohit said how he batted showed maturity and was highly impressive.

“Sarfaraz was very clear and mature in just his third or fourth Test,” Rohit said of the young middle-order batter.

<h2>Rohit credits New Zealand for breaking deadlock</h2>

New Zealand hasn't won a Test in India in the past 36 years, with their last win coming in Mumbai, in 1998; however, after folding India on 46 – their lowest Test total at home and third-lowest overall in the first innings, the Kiwis gave them a real chance of making history, which they eventually did.

“(46 all out) I said it at the press conference after day 1, we knew it'd be a challenge, with overcast conditions and tricky pitch. We didn't think we'll be 46 all out, but due credit to NZ. It set us back and games like this will happen. Gotta take the good things forward. We've been here before, conceding home losses, these things happen. Two Tests to go, we know what it takes and will give it all in the next two Tests,” the India captain noted.

Rohit Sharma lauds Sarfaraz, Pant for mature knocks; backs India to give it all in remaining two Tests vs NZ

New Zealand beat India by eight wickets to win the first Test in Bengaluru on Sunday (Oct 20), ending 36-year wait of bagging a Test victory in the country. Chasing a mere 107 on the final day, the Kiwis lost both openers to Jasprit Bumrah, but Will Young and Rachin Ravindra ensured a smooth ride afterwards. Besides, this is New Zealand’s third Test win in India, with the first two coming in Nagpur (1969) and Mumbai (1988).

A win in Bengaluru sees New Zealand take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Meanwhile, the first Test had everything a cricket fan would wish for - from drama to action, from a team getting all out under 50 to the same side smashing the most runs in an innings in this match. Besides, three players scored centuries of the highest order.

After day one got washed out due to the rain and wet outfield, New Zealand seamers made merry with the new ball inside the first two sessions on the second day, dismissing India on 46 – their lowest Test total at home and third-lowest overall.&nbsp;

In reply, the Kiwis took a 134-run lead before stumps were called on day two. Day three was all about New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra, who hit a fantastic 134, helping his team take a massive 356-run lead in the first innings.

Though the lead was daunting, Rohit Sharma’s men ensured they remained unbothered by it. Unlike how it panned out in the first innings, both openers began with the onslaught, with the skipper charging and completing a fifty soon. Following his wicket, Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan added 136 for the third wicket before Glenn Phillips picked up Kohli on the last ball of day three to dent India’s momentum.

<h2>Day four drama and Pant’s masterclass</h2>

Day four was a dream day for the Indian fans. While Sarfaraz was inching closer to his maiden Test hundred in the first session, Pant was waiting at the other end to unleash himself. The pair wreaked havoc, adding 177 for the fourth wicket, with India’s scorecard reading 408 for three at one stage.

The situation, however, changed soon after with the introduction of the second new ball, with the seamers making the most of it. While the rookie seamer William ORourke returned with three wickets, including removing Pant on 99 – his seventh score in the 90s in Tests, Henry picked as many wickets to wrap up India’s innings on 462, with them needing 107 runs to win.

Although the bad light forced the umpires to call off play late on day four, Bumrah made early inroads in the final innings by removing Kiwi skipper Tom Latham, trapped in front on a duck.

Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj kept beating the edges, with Bumrah later picking Devon Conway similarly. That, however, was the last wicket of the day, with Rachin and Young stitching a 75-run partnership for the third wicket to see New Zealand through.&nbsp;

IND v NZ 2024: New Zealand win in Bengaluru, bags first Test victory in India in 36 years

Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold is not disturbed by the growing speculation around his future at the Premier League club and is fully focused on matters on the pitch, head coach Arne Slot said.

The 26-year-old England right back has been linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid with his Liverpool contract running out at the end of the season. Alexander-Arnold last month said his contract situation will not be played out in public.

Having come through the ranks at Anfield and captaining the club across its youth levels, Alexander-Arnold has won the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and the Club World Cup among other major honours since making his senior debut for Liverpool in 2016.

Captain Virgil van Dijk and winger Mohamed Salah are also out of contract at the end of the campaign.

"I think you underestimate our players. These players are used to being linked with all the top clubs on a daily basis, if they have contracts or not," Slot told reporters ahead of Sunday's Premier League home clash against Chelsea.

"If you think they're disturbed by this interest then you don't do justice to how strong they are mentally. This is part of our job. This is part of this world we are living in. You just focus on what you have to do.

"Maybe if you're 17 or 18 years of age it could be difficult for you. But Trent has won the league, has won the Champions League; Virgil and Mo the same. I don't think that is a problem for them to perform and that's what we see at the moment because they're playing really well."

Liverpool, who top the Premier League table with 18 points from seven matches, suffered a blow with first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker facing a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

Slot said he expects the 32-year-old Brazil international to return before Christmas.

"But you never know. It is always difficult to know how an injury will go in the first stages, so we can answer that question better in two or three weeks' time," the Dutchman added.
