Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Friday confirmed that tension still looms among Congress leaders with regards to the state cabinet berth allocation.

However, the newly-elected chief minister said he is confident that the Congress party will take the right decision in this regard.

"Yes, there is some tension there (regarding portfolio allocation), but I am confident that the Congress leaders will take the right decision," he told reporters here.

On June 7, Congress party workers protested as expectant candidates Roshan Baig and Ramalinga Reddy were not given ministerial berths.

While the grand old party was given charge of 22 ministries, including home, irrigation, health, agriculture and women and child welfare ministries 12 ministries, including finance and excise, public works department, education, tourism and transport ministries were allocated to the Janata Dal (Secular).

Veteran actor Anupam Kher will be given the prestigious Lifetime Achievement honour at the upcoming International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards ceremony in Bangkok.&nbsp;

The 63-year-old actor will be honoured for his contribution in the field of cinema. He has worked in over 500 films that range from projects in India and abroad. Kher has been working in the space of entertainment for over three decades now.&nbsp;

As he was informed of the award, Kher said he is grateful for the award and for being recognised for his work. He said that it will act as an encouragement to keep working in the industry for another 34 years of his life. Kher said, “Thank you IIFA for acknowledging my achievements in Cinema. 'Race 3': Salman Khan and company give another sizzling song titled 'Party Chale On'

Indian Ambassador to China Gautam Bambawale on Friday (June 08) said New Delhi and Beijing have moved past the Himalayan border stand-off and were looking at settling differences and enhancing cooperation.

Last year, India and China were engaged in a 73-day standoff at Doklam in the Sikkim sector. The stand-off was called off after both sides arrived at an understanding over the disengagement of their personnel.

Bambawale, while speaking to reporters ahead of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit scheduled to be held in east China's coastal city of Qingdao, said Doklam was "a thing of past" and both the countries were working on their differences through dialogue.

China and India share frictional associations as two powerful economies in south Asia. Their rather smooth trade relations are marred by decades old border disputes along the Himalayan region.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will depart for Quingdao for a two-day visit to attend the SCO summit on Saturday (June 09). He is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese President XI Jinping, during which the two leaders are expected to hold dialogues aimed at deepening ties in areas of trade and investment.

Bambawale said the SCO summit will revolve around wide-ranging areas like defence and security, and counter-militancy.

India became a full member of the China-dominated SCO grouping last year. The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation was formed in 2001 and includes other countries like China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and&nbsp;Pakistan.

Advani lauded Mukherjee, who has had decades of association with the Congress, for accepting the invitation of the Hindutva organisation and its chief Mohan Bhagwat for inviting him, saying there was significant concord and resonance in the views expressed by both of them.&nbsp&nbsp &nbsp

As a lifelong 'swayamsevak' of the RSS, the BJP veteran said he believed that Mukherjee and Bhagwat have truly set a praiseworthy example of dialogue transcending ideological affiliations and differences.&nbsp

"Both of them highlighted the essential unity of India, which accepts and respects all diversities, including the pluralism of faiths," he said in a statement.

Advani, who has served as the BJP president for the longest period, expressed his happiness over the RSS under Bhagwat expanding and intensifying its efforts to reach out to various sections of the nation in the spirit of dialogue.

"Such conversations, conducted in the spirit of openness and mutual respect, will surely help in creating a much-needed atmosphere of tolerance, harmony and cooperation to build an India of our common dreams," he said.

Praising Mukherjee, Advani said he showed grace and goodwill in accepting the RSS invite as he recalled his long association with him.

"His own reflective nature, combined with his long and varied experience in public life, have made him a statesman who strongly believes in the necessity of dialogue and cooperation among people of various ideological and political backgrounds," he said of Mukherjee.

The former president's decision to accept the RSS invite to address its members had drawn a lot of flak from several Congress leaders and other rivals of the BJP, which is affiliated to the RSS.&nbsp

However, Mukherjee's speech drew praise from Congress leaders as well as from those associated with the RSS. He warned that hatred and intolerance diluted national identity and asserted that nationalism was not bound by race or religion while calling for dialogue to reconcile differences.

The committee to be formed under the District Judge will&nbspsubmit its&nbspreport to the apex court by June 30.

Supreme court orders for committee set up in Jagannath Temple treasury case

India's GDP growth is likely to cross 8 per cent in the next two years and the government is taking a number of steps including formulation of a new industrial policy to double the economy's size to USD 5 trillion in 7-8 years, Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu said on Friday.

"We are working on few strategies to boost economic growth. We are now seeing an upsurge," he told reporters here while talking about the achievements of the government during the last four years.

Prabhu exuded confidence that the growth in 2018-19 will be better than the preceding fiscal.

"I should not be surprised that in the next few quarters, say next 2 years for sure, we will be very close to or cross 8 per cent growth and that is coming out of strong performance of so many sectors," he said.

India's GDP grew at the fastest pace in seven quarters at 7.7 per cent in the January-March quarter of last fiscal, retaining the fastest growing major economy tag on robust performance by manufacturing and service sectors as well as good farm output.

On yearly basis, however, it grew at a four-year low of 6.7 per cent in 2017-18, down from 7.1 per cent in the previous fiscal.

Prabhu said that to facilitate the 8 per cent potential growth, the government is working on several areas including formulation of a new industrial policy, "which is going to make India ready for the fourth industrial revolution and beyond".

"We have created a vision for USD 5 trillion economy in which USD one trillion will come from manufacturing, USD 3 trillion from services and USD one trillion agriculture and allied sector," he added.

When asked about the impact of the RBI's decision this week to raise the benchmark lending rate by 0.25 per cent, the minister said: "I do not think it should hamper investments".

On his US visit next week, Prabhu said that he would meet his counterpart and industry leaders and raise India's concerns about tightening visa regime in the US and its impact on Indian IT sector.

"We will be raising the visa issue because we feel that Indians and their spouses are facing some issues there," he said, adding, "we will explaining our position. It is not a formal trade talk..There is no huge expectations".

On the US challenging India's export support programmes, Prabhu said he would explain that those measures are not subsidies and instead ways to partially offset various additional costs incurred by them.

"Our export support regime is not violating any of the WTO rules," he said.

"We are also working to make sure that there is a proper clarity on this. But what we are doing today is not violating any WTO rule," he added.

On the proposed mega trade deal - Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), Prabhu said India is actively engaged in the negotiations and also holding bilateral talks with member countries including China, Australia and New Zealand.

"What we are saying in RCEP is that it is a comprehensive economic partnership pact and in this services should be an integral part of the agreement," he added.

The big challenge in a long format is to keep the audience coming back until the very end but I couldn’t think of all that. Just days after a<a href="http://wionews.com/india-news/indian-air-forces-jet-crashes-in-gujarats-kutch-pilot-ejects-safely-142309"> Jaguar fighter jet crashed</a> in Kutch, a pilot of a Jaguar ejected after the jet developed a snag during landing in Jamnagar today.

The incident occurred on Thursday&nbsp;morning during a routine training mission in Gujarat. Reports said the pilot ejected safely.

&nbsp;A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to investigate the cause of the accident.

On Tuesday, a Jaguar had crashed near Beraja-Ramaniya Village in Mundra taluka of Kutch.&nbsp;

Air Commodore Sanjay Chauhan was killed in the crash after suffering injuries.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Wednesday showered praises on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that he has brought laurels to the country, even as he dismissed any challenge from opposition parties who appear to be joining hands against the ruling party.

Speaking exclusively to Zee 24 Taas, Amit Shah talked about the work done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government in the last four years and also about challenges that remain ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Here's what the BJP president said about different issues, including opposition unity:

On Congress:

Amit Shah said that in the last 70 years, the country just witnessed politics of appeasement and division of voters on the basis of caste. Shah further said that since Narendra Modi came to power in Centre, there has been end of casteism and politics of appeasement.

"Politics of performance is being certified by people across the country since Narendra Modi-led BJP government came to power in 2014. I strongly believe that people stand with politics of performance in future as well,” said the BJP president.

He, however, added that when attempts are made to divide people on basis of caste and appeasement, there has to be some impact on the ground. “We want to counter it with politics of development, and I am sure we will do it,” said Shah in an apparent reference to recent losses of the BJP in Lok Sabha and Assembly byelections.

On statements by Archbishops:

When asked about the recent remarks by Goa Archbishop about “Constitution in danger and human rights being violated”, the BJP president termed it as his personal opinion on which he would not like to comment.

But he added that if they are making such statements, it shows that there is secularism and freedom of expression in the country. He said that the government strongly supports freedom of expression, “but if it’s about ‘desh ke tukde honge hazaar’, then it is not freedom of expression, it is sedition and will be dealt with strongly”.

“People who imposed Emergency in the country are saying that the environment today is not good. That is just a perception they are trying to form. How can they question us on freedom of expression?” said the BJP chief.

On farmers:

Amit Shah asserted that the government had done a lot of work towards solving problems being faced by farmers, such as soil health card and Pradhan Mantri Fasal Beema Yojana. “In the last 70 years, no one gave farmers a minimum support price of 1.5 times the cost of the crop. Today Modi government is giving 1.5 times MSP on both Kharif and Rabi crops,” he said.

On Pranab Mukherjee attending RSS event:

Responding to a question on objections being raised over former President Pranab Mukherjee’s scheduled visit to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters in Nagpur, the BJP president said that there should not be any controversy over the same. Pointing that even Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi met RSS representatives, Shah asked, “What is the objection if Pranab Da goes to an RSS event?”

On losses in bypolls:

Amit Shah said that it’s not like the BJP has lost in all byelections, adding that the party has in fact won seven bypolls. He further attacked the Congress party saying that they had no reason to be happy about. “We snatched 11 state governments from Congress. Out of 16 states, they are left with just two,” Shah added.

On opposition unity:

According to Shah, the agenda of the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to remove poverty, but the only agenda of other parties is to remove Modi. Dismissing any possible impact of the opposition unity in 2019 elections, the BJP chief said that these parties had already contested against the ruling party in 2014 elections and all were defeated.

Referring to the recent show of strength by opposition parties during the swearing-in ceremony of HD Kumaraswamy as Karnataka Chief Minister, Shah said, “you can’t influence voters if you stand on a stage joining hands…Mamata’s influence will remain confined in West Bengal while Sharad Pawar’s impact will be there only in Maharashtra. Similarly, Kumaraswamy cannot do anything outside Karnataka... there will be no effect of opposition unity in 2019 elections.”

On upcoming Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh:

&nbspAll the sectoral indices were trading in the green. Realty, infrastructure, bankex, IT, capital goods, auto, FMCG, healthcare and oil & gas advanced up to 1.16 per cent.

Also, the NSE Nifty jumped 72.95 points or 0.68 per cent to 10,757.60.

Major gainers were ICICI Bank, Infosys, ONGC, M&M, Yes Bank, Tata Steel, Hindustan Unilever, Wipro, Axis Bank, Bajaj Auto, RIL, Asian Paints, L&T, Kotak Bank, Tata Motors and HDFC Ltd, gaining up to 1.66 per cent.

Brokers said sustained buying by domestic institutional investors (DIIs) and a firm trend at other Asian bourses supported the market sentiment.

DIIs had net bought shares worth Rs 712.31 crore, while foreign funds sold shares to the tune of Rs 81.40 crore yesterday, provisional exchange data showed.

Asian shares rose following overnight gains on Wall Street, supported by strong economic fundamentals, while expectations that the European Central Bank could start to wind down its stimulus boosted the euro and global bond yields.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up 0.60 per cent while Japan's Nikkei gained 0.96 per cent in early trade today. Shanghai Composite Index was up by 0.16 per cent.

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 1.40 per cent higher yesterday.
