The former Congressman had decided to accept an invite by the RSS to deliver the speech as the Congress leaders raised objections over the visit.

The home minister will be accompanied by Union home secretary, joint secretary(J&K) and Minister of State(MoS) in Prime Minister's Office(PMO) Jitendra Singh.

The minister will also meet J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti and review security arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra.

Rajnath Singh will stay in J&K for two days as he reviews the situation in the state.

Ceasefire review: Rajnath Singh to visit J&K again to meet people living in border areas

Sinhauli village in Uttar Pradesh had been a site of interest for Indian archaeologists for more than a decade now. When the officials of Archeological Survey of India (ASI) had unearthed around 116 ancient burials sites and mortal remains, it confirmed the existence of an ancient civilization in the region.&nbsp;

In the small, nondescript village, ASI recently found a 4000-year-old chariot for the first time in the history of the Indian subcontinent. The chariot has been found near a burial ground which also contained a coffin placed between the chariots.&nbsp;

"The findings are extremely significant to understand the new cultural horizon of the region and its relationship with Indus valley civilization. However, unlike Indus valley civilization, archaeologists have discovered chariots engraved with copper, which also symbolizes royalty and technical perfections of the era," says S K Manjul, Director, Institute of Archeology (ASI).

‌Mujal further explained that these remains clearly showcased the sophistication of the culture, &nbsp;casting techniques, weaving art and a craft certainty so improved that even woodcraft is a meticulous and beautifully made coffin.

ASI started the excavation at the site in April 2018. Extensive exploration work was undertaken along with the excavation work at Barnawa for a better understanding of settlement pattern of the prehistoric period of this region.&nbsp;

The copper-plated wooden coffin recovered at the site clearly indicated the vast progress made by the ancient Indians in the metallurgy. There were engravings of anthropomorphic figures on the coffin. The casket itself was of unique design with legs on its 4 corners.

Small copper articles resembling nails and rivets were also recovered from the site. The recovery puts the Indian civilization in line with that of Greece and Mesopotamia.

Officials working at the site observed that the recovery of ornaments, weapons and combs near the coffin indicated the ancient Indians believed in an afterlife. Burying the departed along with their personal belongings is a distinct feature of the Egyptian civilization.

Shiv Lal, the owner of the excavated land, says that they are not at a loss even if they have to give away their lands as the name of their village will be written in history books. There have been several excavations in the area, however, this site has reported some outstanding discoveries such as wooden legged cot like coffins with copper plating and decorations, eight anthropomorphic figures having two horned and peepal leafed crown decorated on the cover of the coffin and the remains of chariots along with burial goods and coffin.

4000-year-old chariot found in Uttar Pradesh Village

Hitting out at the BJP and YSR Congress Party, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday alleged that the resignation of five Lok Sabha members of the Jaganmohan Reddy-led party was a political drama enacted by both parties.

Naidu charged that YSRCP and BJP colluded in the 'drama' and said the five MPs meeting Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan yesterday and insisting that she accept their resignations after a gap of two months was to ensure there was no need to face by-elections.

He was speaking at a rally in Madanapalle, 120 km from here during his two-day Nava Nirmana Deeksha in his native district of Chittoor.

In April last, the YSRC MPs had resigned, but their resignations were not immediately accepted because both the BJP and YSR Congress feared defeat if they faced by-elections, the TDP supremo alleged.

As per rules, if an MP's tenure is less than a year, by-elections cannot be held and keeping this in mind the two parties played out a 'drama,' he said.

Referring to the controversial sacking of chief priest of the famous hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara in Tirumala, Naidu said the two parties had been using the issue to malign the ruling TDP in Andhra Pradesh, he said.&nbsp

The former president also spoke about nationalism and said Indian nationalism is not about language and race and it's not ''exclusive but inclusive''.&nbsp;

“Democracy is not a gift but a sacred trust,” he said and added ''our constitution flows through our nationalism which respects shared diversity and has the ability to self-correct. As party activist and member of Parliament, I realised that spirit of India lies in tolerance and pluralism. Secularism and inclusion is a matter of faith while composite culture defines our nationhood. It is not about one language and one religion, “ he said.

India is waiting for Malaysia's response on the extradition of Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) president and preacher Zakir Naik, as informed in Ministry of External Affairs'&nbsppress conference on Thursday.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, "India and Malaysia have an extradition treaty and we have made an extradition request to Malaysia, we are waiting for their response in this matter."

He further said that the legal process for the same is near completion.

"Once it is complete, we will make an official request to Malaysian government very soon to send back Zakir Naik to India" Kumar said.

Earlier in March, the Indian government sought Naik's extradition from Malaysia accusing him of inciting youth to take up jihad.

There were reports that Naik had been given permanent residency in Malaysia.

Earlier in 2017, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a charge sheet against Naik in a special court in Mumbai as part of which it said it would explore all the legal options to bring Naik back to India.&nbsp

The Geological Survey of India (GSI) has started systematic mapping of all landslide-prone areas in the country to avert damages, its Director General Dinesh Gupta said on Thursday.

The GSI has identified parts of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Darjeeling area of West Bengal, Sikkim, Jammu and Kashmir and some portions of South India comprising hills - and undertaken systematic mapping of which area is prone to landslides, Gupta told reporters here.

"Any slight movement will be recorded, fed into the system and used to warn state authorities about any possible occurance (of landslide)," he said at the meet called to highlight GSI's activities.

Data pertaining to 1.71 sq km area was already available and all one would have to do was to type the location and see the result on map, Gupta said.

He said that by 2021, the entire data feed process is expected to be completed.

On early warning system for earthquakes, he said there is no technology to forecast it but GSI is cautioning people about which area is more prone to quakes, and which kinds of building needed to be built.

"We are studying sub-surface and it is a continuous process," he said.

He said GSI is giving greater thrust on mineral exploration to give more auctionable blocks to respective state governments.

India is leading in mineral explorations in coal, manganese, iron ore and lignite and the state governments were fully cooperating with the GSI exploration, he said.

On GSI mapping, he said of the 3.146 million sq km mappable area of the country, 3.1 million sq km have so far been covered by systematic geological mapping on 1:50,000 scale, bringing the total coverage to 99.35 per cent till date.

"No other country, even the advanced ones, have the luxury of having geological map on 1:50,000 scale, prepared based on actual field work on ground," he said.

He said the National Geochemical Mapping (NGCM) has been taken up since 2001-2002 to generate baseline geochemical database on 1:50,000 scale to identify prospective areas for probable mineral occurrences to create a seamless geochemical base map on 1:50,000 scale and till March 2018, GSI has covered 9.30 lakh sq. Km area by NGCM.

"Again, no other country has a geochemical map of such a high data density and so much of coverage," Gupta said.&nbsp

India and Thailand are set to begin joint bilateral exercises in a bid&nbspto further cooperation between the two countries.

The joint exercise code named "MAITREE - 2018" is scheduled to take place in Mueang, Chachoengsao province in Thailand between the forces of Indian Army and Royal Thai Army.&nbsp

The aim of the exercise is to undertake "joint tactical level operations" on handling of insurgency and related issues in urban and rural areas.&nbsp

The previous exercise between the two countries was held at Bakloh in Himachal Pradesh last year.&nbsp

Thailand and India have been cooperating in various multilateral fora namely in ASEAN, ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), East Asia Summit, BIMSTEC.&nbsp&nbsp

In addition, India is a member of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) initiated by Thailand in 2002 and of the Mekong-Ganga Cooperation (MGC).&nbsp

Meanwhile, the missile corvette, INS Kulish and Dornier maritime patrol aircraft stationed at the Andaman and Nicobar Command reached Indonesia for the closing ceremony of the 31st edition of the India - Indonesia Coordinated Patrol.

The opening ceremony of IND-INDO CORPAT was earlier conducted from May 24 to 25 at Port Blair followed by co-ordinated patrol (CORPAT) from May 26 to June 2. The closing ceremony of IND-INDO CORPAT will be conducted from June 6 to 9.

IAS officers' reshuffle in West Bengal

The Indian government asked Facebook to respond by June 20 the media reports of sharing user data without the consent of the users.

The official statement states, "Recently there are media reports claiming that Facebook has agreements which are allowing phone and other device manufacturers access to its users' personal information, including that of their friends, without taking their explicit consent. The Government of India is deeply concerned about reports of such lapses/violations".

"The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has sought an explanation from Facebook seeking a detailed factual report on the issue. Facebook has been asked to respond by June 20."

Already facing criticism over the data breach scandal, Facebook came under fire again on Wednesday after the reports that it shared data with four Chinese mobile manufacturing firms.

The company also acknowledged the reports on Wednesday and said that it is ending the agreement with Huawei.

The United States also criticised Facebook after Republican and Democratic lawmakers demanded that the social media be more forthcoming about data it has shared with the Chinese companies.

Facebook had earlier revealed 87 million users' account was hacked after a UK-based firm Cambridge Analytica was accused of harvesting Facebook data.

New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood said the "data-sharing partnerships with other corporations" is part of the ongoing investigation into the reported misuse of Facebook user data by Cambridge Analytica.

India seeks Facebook's response over reports of data sharing without consent

The Defence Ministry is likely to finalise in the next few days the broad contours of Indian Navy's ambitious project to build six advanced submarines under the multi-billion P-75 (I) programme.

Sources said that the state-run Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) is likely to be given the responsibility to implement the project as against the government's earlier indication that private shipbuilders would be involved in constructing the submarines.

A meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), defence ministry's highest decision-making body on procurement, is likely to deliberate extensively on the submarine project in the next few days, the sources said.

The government is seriously considering involving MDL in the nearly $ 8 billion project, they said.

Last year, the ministry had given indications that the six submarines would be built under the strategic partnership model with the involvement of private players.

The strategic partnership model was unveiled in May last year under which select private firms are to be roped in to build military platforms such as submarines and fighter jets in India in partnership with foreign entities.

Six Scorpene-class submarines are currently being built under 'Project 75' of the Indian Navy. The submarines, designed by French firm Naval Group, are being built by the Mazagon Dock Limited in Mumbai.

Karisma Kapoor won't get married to boyfriend, papa Randhir Kapoor confirms!

How does one remember Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi? For becoming the leading light of fight against the British? For his writings? For lending the concept of non-violence in the sphere of political action or simply for his compassionate view on how people can live together? I would remember Gandhi on 125th year of Satyagraha for the last reason.

Gandhi's exercise of freedom struggle was both external and internal at the same time. It was different from violent struggles where the object was to target the colonial power through any means so as to force them out of India.

Gandhi on the other hand embarked on self-transformation through public campaign. Making of salt was an act of defiance but it never concluded in violence. Non-violent protest was part of character building process whereby power of protest flew from moral outrage than possibility of physical harm. It never allowed violence to create a vicious circle which was witnessed in many colonised nations which continued way after they had won independence.

Freedom was not an achievement for Gandhi. It was a desire to create Ram Rajya for millions of people who were divided by caste and religion and united by poverty. The idea was not to build Ram Rajya which would exclude people. It was all inclusive. It tried not to create a sense of other to unite the rest. It is for this reason when Nehru and Patel were busy grappling the reign of power, the dejected old man was busy trudging through the riot hit areas of the sub-continent. The sub-continent was partitioned but Gandhi never allowed his grief to turn into bigotry. He ensured that Congress doesn't indulge in it. Gandhi could not control organisations like RSS but he never went after them like a rogue policeman.

Gandhi should be remembered for his idea of India which was not to build an exclusive cultural identity. His idea of India had space for every religion. He did not hunt for internal enemy. Gandhi's struggle was both collective practice and individual practice in honesty, intellectual development, discipline, ecological sustainability and socio-religious tolerance. Today India is caught in the same debate which dominated political narrative before Gandhi was assassinated. Who does India belong to? Who has the first right to India? Who can stay in India and who should leave? Will Hindus have their say in the country? It is for this reason that Gandhi's satyagraha should be remembered.

It was simply against discrimination and segregation. It united people in campaign which became a nation. His campaign united colour and race and created space for citizens. His Satyagraha even neutralised patriarchy by allowing women full participation in public life. It is for this reason that Gandhi's Satyagraha should be remembered.

Lastly, the biggest lesson of Satyagraha and non-violence is that inner demons have to be dealt first because he made all of us realise that those who hunt outer demons and enemies perpetrate worst crimes against humanity. His Satyagraha stood against all these virtues which today are busy making India strong and confident nation.

Gandhi's assassination brought post-Partition madness to halt. The guilt of assassination prevented violence to escalate further. To there is no Gandhi. So it becomes incumbent upon everyone that they pause and recollect as to what was happening on the eve of Partition. It would calm us all.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday alleged that Lt Governor Anil Baijal has not given appointment since Friday to him and two other ministers to discuss “important government” issues. In a series of tweets, Sisodia asked Baijal where was he busy if he cannot give time to discuss public issues despite “repeated requests”.

“Hon @LtGovDelhi sir! I have been requesting since Friday evening to your office for appointment. Myself along with Gopal Rai and Satyendra Jain wanted to discuss important govt issues with you. But you didn’t give any appointment…(sic),” Sisodia tweeted.

He further said, “@LtGovDelhi Sir! today when we requested you to meet us during CM-LG pre-scheduled weekly meeting, you turned down our this request also. “Sir where are you busy, if you can’t give time to 3 Delhi govt ministers to discuss Delhi public issues, despite repeated requests?”.

In another tweet, the deputy chief minister said that he along with Jain and Rai were waiting for the L-G’s response.
