JNU student leader Umar Khalid has filed a complaint with the Delhi Police that he and Gujarat's Independent MLA Jignesh Mevani had received death threats from a man who identified himself as fugitive gangster Ravi Pujari, a senior official said today.

Khalid tweeted that he has asked for police protection.

"Filed a complaint with @DelhiPolice regarding Ravi Pujari's death threat to Jignesh and me. He said that I am on his HIT LIST! I have asked for police protection, given the fact that this is the same person who had previously also issued similar threats of killing me in Feb 2016 (sic)," he said.

Yesterday, Khalid approached the police with a complaint over the threats and a case was registered, the police official said, adding that they are investigating the matter.

The student leader said that he was informed by Mevani about the threats, and he has not received any call himself till now.

"Mevani has been receiving death threats for the last two-three days. In one of the calls he received, the caller had mentioned my name too. He had mentioned that if we don't stop giving speeches we would be killed.

"Mevani informed me and I approached the police. A case has been registered and they said that they will do a threat assessment and take a call on providing police protection," Khalid told PTI.

Mevani too had alleged yesterday that he has received death threats from Pujari.

When asked whether the calls were being received in relation to the arrests made by the Pune Police on June 6 in connection with the Bhima-Koregaon violence, he said, "I am not aware about the context. Pujari has not mentioned that he was calling in that context. I don't feel it is a coincidence that the calls (to Mevani) started coming from that day (the arrests were made)."

Elgar Parishad, organised to commemorate 200 years of the Koregaon Bhima battle, was held on December 31 at Shaniwarwada. It was attended by Mevani, Khalid along with Rohit Vemula's mother Radhika Vemula and Bharip Bahujan Mahasangh President Prakash Ambedkar.

In 2016, Khalid's father Syed Qasim Illyas Rasool had filed a police complaint, claiming that he has received a phone call "threatening to kill" his son if he doesn't leave the country.

This incident had happened when the police was looking for Khalid in connection with the sedition case filed against him, former JNU students' union president Kanhaiya Kumar, and Anirban Bhattacharya for allegedly organising an event against the hanging of 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.

Guru was hanged in 2013.

"It is very sad to hear about this extreme step he took. I would have never imagined that Anthony would do this. It is a big loss to the industry. A lot of people were inspired by his body of work," he told ANI.

The noted chef further said Anthony`s death is not just a loss to those who knew him, but also to those who have not experienced the best he had to offer.

"I think that the chef who loves to travel and explore is a true one and Anthony was a perfect example of a true chef. He was not only the ambassador of food of the world but he was also culinary ambassador to India," Sanjeev explained.

Bourdain allegedly committed suicide in his hotel room in Paris on Friday.

Television network CNN, for whom Bourdain had produced the food series, "Parts Unknown" reported the incident and released a statement condoling his death.

Bourdain was known as a master of crafts in the kitchen. He has a number of cookbooks and television shows in his name.

He was also recognised as an advocate for marginalised populations and campaigned for safer working conditions for restaurant staffs.

Who would have thought that a little boy in a small town in Canada would inspire a filmmaker in India to make a film on him? The story of little Evan Leversage and the people of St George town in Canada affected National-award winning filmmaker Srijit Mukherji so deeply that he decided to base his latest film ‘Uma’ on them.

“I happened to come across a story on Facebook back in 2015. The article titled ‘The Boy Who Moved Christmas’ was about how a small town in Canada had made Christmas possible in the month of April for Evan Leversage, a six-year-old boy who was suffering from a terminal illness.” The doctors weren’t sure if Evan would live that long and hence the people of the town decided to make his dream come true. Complete with Christmas parade and snow, the town celebrated an early Christmas to bring a smile on Evan’s face. Evan ultimately died that year in December- few weeks before Christmas.

The spirit of goodness inspired Mukherjee to take up the story and adapt it for the Indian audience. So in his film, ‘Uma’, a little girl suffering from a terminal illness travels from Switzerland to Kolkata, India to witness the city’s biggest festival- Durga Puja. The catch is that Puja takes place in the month of October every year, but Uma has limited time and her father makes her dream come true in the month of April. The story then narrates how her father hires a film crew to set up Durga Puja in Kolkata in April and how Uma gets to live her last wish all thanks to a few good men and women in the city of joy. 

In its second week at the cinemas, the film is running to packed houses in Kolkata and select cities outside of Bengal. Mukherji feels it’s the story of hope that is making everyone watch ‘Uma’. “It is an incredible story. I thought of making a film on it because such a story had to be narrated. It just reaffirms one’s faith in humanity.” 

Did Evan’s family show any apprehension when Mukherji contacted them for the film? “ I think they were just moved by the fact that Evan’s story could affect and inspire someone all the way in India. They weren’t apprehensive at all. Just happy that his story could be taken to India.” The director though had to explain how Durga Puja is celebrated in India. “ A cross between a New York Christmas and Rio Carnival- that's how grand Puja is in Kolkata, I told Evan’s mother.”

Mukherji also spoke to the people of St George to get their anecdotes on Evan and how they celebrated an untimely Christmas. The filmmaker states that some of the scenes in ‘Uma’ were based on the actual incidents. “ A scene in Uma has her uncles creating rain for her. In Evan’s case, the film company which actually took the task to recreate Christmas, brought in snow machine so that Evans could wake to snow in front of his house.”

Mukherji feels that in the Indian context, the story could be adapted to any other city and any other festival because it ultimately celebrates the goodness of people. “ But Durga Puja, and the way Kolkata celebrates it is cinematically stunning. I can imagine this story with Diwali as a backdrop and in a city like Mumbai and Bangalore even. Not in Delhi though,” the director adds.

'Uma' stars Sara Sengupta in the titular role. Sara, daughter of Bengali actors Jishhu Sengupta and Nilanjana Sengupta, has been earning praises for her debut film. “ Her parents are close firends of mine and I have seen her grow up. She is like my own daughter. So when I was writing the script, I kept her mind and wrote it. Sara was, of course, a natural choice for the role.” Sara’s father Jisshu Sengupta plays her father on screen as well.

And what about a screening at Evan’s hometown, where it all started? “That has to happen of course. His mother has attended the Kolkata premiere. We will take the film to St George in July. We plan to screen it in a park right outside Evan’s home.”

The government has put the National Disaster Relief Force(NDRF) on alert as several areas were inundated due to rains.

The monsoon arrived in&nbsp;Maharashtra on Friday bringing rains in the city. &nbsp;According to the Meteorological Department, in the next few hours, it may reach the surrounding areas around Mumbai.

At least two flight were cancelled due to flooding, reports said. Hindmata and Lower Parel were flooded on Saturday morning.

"Heavy to very heavy rainfall was recorded in the suburbs till 8.30 am today," IMD Deputy Director K S Hosalikar said.

Meanwhile, trains on the suburban section of the Central Railway (CR) were running late by 10-12 minutes due to the showers, an official said, adding that there were no cancellations.

"There was a case of wall debris falling on tracks this morning on Down slow line. The debris were removed immediately and for some time, trains on down slow line were diverted to the fast line," Sunil Udasi, Chief PRO of CR, said.

It is a book that is unputdownable."And the character should be like that you build and make something amazing out of it. I don't think whether I am the main lead or have enough to do in the film or not, whether it's two scenes or half a scene to do, it should be of a kind that leaves a strong impact," Kajol said during a promotional event of "Incredibles 2".

Dismissing the allegations levelled by the Congress party about the <a href="http://cmsuat.wionews.com/india-news/election-commission-orders-probe-into-anomalies-in-madhya-pradesh-voters-list-141998">discrepancies in Madhya Pradesh's voters' list</a>, the Election Commission on Friday clarified that there were no irregularities in the electoral rolls in the state.

The EC rejected reports of irregularities claiming that the "nothing unusual" could be noticed in the electoral roll of the state.

The EC said, "This has been seen from the perspective of census data and the annual increase in the numbers of the electoral roll and nothing unusual could be noticed. It can be safely concluded that there is no basis to dispute current electoral roll".

Allegations claiming unexplained growth in the electors in Madhya Pradesh were raised as the Elector Population (EP) ratio which used to be 52.76 per cent in 2008 increased to 61.45 per cent in 2018.

Dismissing the allegations levelled by the Congress party about the discrepancies in Madhya Pradesh's voters' list, the Election Commission on Friday clarified that there were no irregularities in the electoral rolls in the state. The EC rejected reports of irregularities claiming that the "nothing unusual" could be noticed in the electoral roll of the state. A massive fire also broke out in Mumbai's Patel Chambers during the wee hours on Saturday which led to a part of the building to collapse. Around 18 fire engines were rushed to the sport immediately, two men were injured in the process.&nbsp

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in China on Saturday&nbsp;on a two-day visit to attend the annual Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit where India is likely to pitch for concerted regional and global action against terror networks and favour effective connectivity links to boost trade.

India became a full member of the China-dominated grouping last year and New Delhi's entry into it is expected to increase the eight-member group's heft in regional geopolitics and trade negotiations besides giving it a pan-Asian hue.

Hours after his arrival in this central port city, Modi is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping&nbsp;during which the two leaders are expected to explore ways to deepen ties in areas of trade and investment besides reviewing the overall bilateral cooperation.

The meeting is taking place weeks after the two leaders held an informal summit in central China's Wuhan city during which they exchanged views on solidifying the relationship between the two Asian powers.

In&nbsp;tomorrow's&nbsp;meeting, Modi and Xi are likely to take stock of the progress in the implementation of decisions they had taken at the informal summit.

About the SCO summit, officials said India will pitch for evolving effective ways to deal with the growing challenge of terrorism and enhancing security cooperation among SCO countries.

India is also keen on deepening its security-related cooperation with the SCO and its Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure (RATS) which specifically deals with issues relating to security and defence.

India was an observer at the SCO since 2005 and has generally participated in the ministerial-level meetings of the grouping which focus mainly on security and economic cooperation in the Eurasian region.

The SCO was founded at a summit in Shanghai in 2001 by the presidents of Russia, China, Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. India and Pakistan became its members last year.&nbsp;

The officials said India is also likely to focus on the importance of regional connectivity projects to boost trade among members of the SCO countries.

India has been strongly pushing for connectivity projects like the Chabahar port project and International North-South Transport Corridor to gain access to resource-rich Central Asian countries.

Sources indicated that India's focus would be to include its concerns over cross-border terrorism in the final outcome document.

India has been raising the issue of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in various multilateral forums with an aim to build pressure on Islamabad to dismantle the terror infrastructure operating from that country.

Modi is expected to hold nearly half a dozen bilateral meetings with leaders of other SCO countries. However, there is no official word on whether there will be any interaction between Modi and Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain, who is scheduled to attend the meeting in China.

A day after the former president and Congress veteran leader Pranab Mukherjee attended the RSS's Tritiya Varsh event in Nagpur, Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari questioned him about his belief on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

In a series of tweet&nbsp;on Friday, Tewari said&nbsp;that it was Mukherjee's&nbsp;generation that had "cautioned" the people during the 80s and the 90s.&nbsp;

He further reminded Mukherjee that he was the part of the government which had banned the RSS during the 1975 and 1992.

India and Pakistan will <a href="http://wionews.com/south-asia/uninterrupted-dialogue-with-india-only-way-to-resolve-all-disputes-pakistan-143008">not hold any formal meeting</a> on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation(SCO) summit scheduled to begin tomorrow in China, India's ambassador to China&nbsp;Gautam Bambawale said.&nbsp;

Bambawale&nbsp;confirmed that the leaders of the two countries may talk during the summit but there will be "no formal meeting"&nbsp;with Pakistan.

"Neither have we nor has Pakistan asked for a formal meeting but during such summits leaders may talk on the sidelines but there will be no formal meeting (with Pakistan)", Indian Ambassador to China, Gautam Bambawale said.

He further said, "This is the first summit wherein India is participating with complete membership & so will Pakistan, terror will certainly be a substantial part of the&nbsp;discussion".

The SCO was founded at a summit in Shanghai in 2001 by the presidents of Russia, China, Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.&nbsp;

Prime Minister Modi is expected to hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping during the summit, where the two leaders are expected to take stock of the implementations of ideas that they had decided during their informal summit in Wuhan last month.

The trailer of the much-anticipated film, spy thriller film Vishwaroopam 2 starring South Indian star turned politician Kamal Haasan, will be launched on June 11.

The trailer will be launched digitally by Bollywood actor Aamir Khan and his daughter Shruti Haasan.

Thr production house Raj Kamal films who is producing the film made the announcement on Twitter today.

The film is simultaneously being made in Tamil and Hindi languages. Aamir Khan will launch the Hindi trailer and Shruti Haasan will launch the Tamil trailer.

It is also being dubbed in Telugu.

Shruti Haasan also posted an official poster of the film on her Instagram.

Produced by Venu Ravichandran in Tamil and Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor in Hindi, the film is a sequel of Vishawaroopam released in 2013.

Along with Kamal Haasan, the film features Rahul Bose, Pooja Kumar and Andrea Jeremiah. While the first film was set in the United States, Vishwaroopam II is set to take place in India.

Initially, the film was supposed to be released&nbsp;in 2015 but after several delays, the film will finally hit the screens this year.

According to the Indian Oil Corporation, the prices of petrol reduced by 21-22 paisa per litre in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai compared with the previous day's price. While the prices of diesel went down by 15-16 paise per litre.

The price of the petrol and diesel is being monitored by the state-run oil marketing companies.

The Indian Oil Corporation reviews the prices by comparing it with global crude oil and rupee-dollar forex rates, among other factors.

After the consistent reduction in the price of the two for ten days, the prices for petrol and diesel have not even reduced by a rupee.&nbsp;

While the consecutive increase in the prices since May 2014 had led to an increase of Rs 3.55 per litre and diesel by Rs 2.78.

Petrol, diesel prices reduce for 10th day

A letter allegedly found in the house of one of the five persons arrested for "links" with the banned CPI (Maoist) talks about the ultras mulling "another Rajiv Gandhi incident", Pune police told a court on Thursday.

Police had arrested a Dalit activist Sudhir Dhawale on Wednesday, lawyer Surendra Gadling, activists Mahesh Raut and Shoma Sen and Rona Wilson from Mumbai, Nagpur and Delhi respectively in connection with 'Elgar Parishad' held here in December and the subsequent Bhima-Koregaon violence in the district.

All five were produced before the sessions court today which remanded them in police custody till&nbsp;June 14.

A letter found in Rona Wilson's house in Delhi talks about requirement of Rs 8 crore to procure M-4 rifle and four lakh rounds, and also about "another Rajiv Gandhi incident", prosecutor Ujjwala Pawar told the court.

"We are thinking along the lines of another Rajiv Gandhi incident. It sounds suicidal and there is a chance that we might fail but party must deliberate on our proposal," Pawar quoted the letter as saying.

Seeking their remand, Pawar told judge A S Bhailsare, that documents seized also showed that preparation for the Elgar Parishad -- which police believe was backed and funded by the Maoists -- was going on for two months.

Quoting another letter allegedly seized from Wilson's house, Pawar said, "The higher Committee has appreciated the endearing efforts of all urban comrades for the specific tasks given to them... There is a lot of ground to be covered. Comrade Mangalu and Deepu have been coordinating the Koregaon programme (for) last two months with Comrade Sudhir.

"They have been able to gather support from the larger sections of Dalits across the state," Pawar quoted the letter as saying.

Evidence also showed that funds were provided by the CPI (Maoist) to "comrade Sudhir" for Koregaon Bhima "task" and "Comrade Shoma and Surendra" were authorised to provide funds for future programs, the prosecutor said.

In one of the letters from one Prakash to Wilson, it is stated that the Bhima Koregaon agitation was losing its steam, and cadres should keep it alive, Pawar said.

An investigation also revealed that senior Maoist leaders were asking lower-rung cadres to target and recruit "intelligent" students from "renowned" institutes, she said.

The lawyers of the accused said the documents cited by the prosecution were fabricated, and the accused have been framed up.

One of the defence lawyers pointed out that while police invoked the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against the five accused, the stringent law was not applied against right-wing activists Milind Ekbote and Sambhaji Bhide, who are accused of inciting anti-Dalit violence at Bhima Koregaon on&nbsp;January 1.

Earlier in the day, Joint Commissioner of Police Ravindra Kadam told reporters that a letter allegedly seized from Wilson's house had been sent by fugitive Maoist leader Milind Teltumbde.

When asked if it refers to the Congress and Bharip Bahujan Mahasangh president Prakash Ambedkar (as alleged by a BJP leader today), he said, "The letter has their references, but we are still investigating the details."

Documents seized from Gadling's house in Nagpur show his indirect connection to recent Maoist attacks in Gadchiroli in Maharashtra and in Chhattisgarh, Kadam said.

Dhawale was one of the organisers of Elgar Parishad, organised to commemorate 200 years of the Koregaon Bhima battle, on&nbsp;December 31.

Police had earlier claimed that Kabir Kala Manch activists made provocative speeches at the gathering, leading to violence at Bhima Koregaon the next day.

Police today also said that Teltumbde, comrade Prakash, comrade Manglu and comrade Deepu have been added as absconding accused in the present case.

A day before Kadam had claimed that some of the arrested activists were the "top brass of the Urban Maoists".&nbsp;

Dalits commemorate the 1818 battle of Bhima Koregaon where British forces, mostly consisting of Mahar soldiers (who were Dalits), defeated the forces of Peshwa, ending the Maratha rule. Some Hindu organisations had opposed the celebration this year.

The Central Railway has registered record earnings of Rs. 42.15 crores from ticketless and irregular travellers for the period of April to May.

During this period, a total of 7.59 lakh cases of ticketless or irregular travel and unbooked luggage were detected as against 7.25 lakh cases in the corresponding period last year showing an increase of 4.70 per cent, the Central Railway said in a statement.

The earnings realised from such travel was Rs 42.15 crore during the period of April to May 2018, showing an increase of 2.25 per cent as compared to earnings of Rs 41.22 crore registered during the corresponding period last year.

Apart from this, around 1517 cases of transfer of reserved journey tickets were detected and Rs. 12.77 lakh was recovered as a penalty.
