<p>The <a href="http://wionews.com/india-news/petrol-prices-reduce-by-40-paise-diesel-by-30-on-11th-consecutive-day-143242">prices of petrol and diesel fell again </a>on Sunday making it the twelfth consecutive downfall in the price.</p>

<p>While the prices of petrol reduced by 20 paise per litre, that of diesel lowered by 18 paise per litre.</p>

<p>The prices of petrol and diesel after the twelfth consecutive reduction came down to Rs 76.62 and Rs 68.1 Rs respectively.</p>

<p>The price of petrol and diesel differs from state to state depending on local sales tax or VAT.</p>

<p>The total reduction in the price of petrol and diesel after the 12th consecutive cut accounted for Rs 1.69 and Rs 1.2 respectively.</p>

<p>The rates of the petrol and diesel are the cheapest in Delhi compared to other metros and most State capitals.</p>

<p>The Indian Oil Corporation reviews the prices by comparing it with global crude oil and rupee-dollar forex rates, among other factors.</p>

<p>There has been a consistent reduction in the price of petrol and diesel after the government faced a severe backlash from the opposition for failing to control the rising price.</p>

The 3,000-km CPEC is aimed at connecting China and Pakistan with rail, road, pipelines and optical fibre cable networks.</p>

<p>It will connect Xinjiang province with Gwadar port, providing China with access to the Arabian Sea. The project, when completed, would enable China to route its oil supplies from the Middle East through pipelines to Xinjiang, cutting considerable distance for Chinese ships to travel to China.</p>

<p>India had also stayed clear of the joint communique by member countries during the foreign ministers’ meet in Beijing in April this year.</p>

<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 18th SCO Summit in Qingdao over the weekend, marking India’s first participation as its full member.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Modi held a bilateral meeting with Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the summit and shook hands with Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain.</p>

<p>Student rights activist at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Shehla Rashid, made a controversial tweet by claiming that the <a href="http://wionews.com/india-news/massive-manhunt-launched-to-locate-accused-in-pm-modis-assassination-plot-143263">assassination plot against PM Modi </a>is planned by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and the RSS.</p>

<p>She said that the RSS and Union Minister have planned the assassination to blame the Muslims/communists and then lynch the Muslims.</p>

<p>She tweeted, "Looks like RSS/Gadkari is planning to assassinate Modi, and then blame it upon Muslims/Communists and then lynch Muslims #RajivGandhiStyle."&nbsp;</p>

<p>One thousand auto-rickshaws will welcome Congress president Rahul Gandhi on his day-long visit to the city on Tuesday, party leader Sanjay Nirupam said on Sunday. “Almost a thousand auto-rickshaw drivers have decided to welcome Rahul ji to the city in their vehicles. This is the love the common man feels for our party president,” Nirupam said in a statement here.</p>

<p>The rechristening of the over 150-year-old Mughalsarai station in Uttar Pradesh has been red-flagged by historians and heritage experts, some of whom feel “erasing a landmark chapter” in the evolution of railways in the country will lead to “terrible confusion” among travellers.</p>

<p>The Uttar Pradesh government recently issued a notification saying the station, a major railway junction in northern India on the Delhi-Howrah line, has been renamed after RSS ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, with Governor Ram Naik giving his assent. This sparked a public outcry.</p>

<p>“History should be respected as it is. Mughalsarai was a historic railway station and part of childhood memories of millions of people. It was a landmark chapter in the evolution in the Indian Railways. Its name should not have been changed or rechristened after anybody,” lamented noted historian Irfan Habib.</p>

<p>He said he has fond memories of travelling in trains and looking forward to arrival of the station, where the familiar buzz of the tea-sellers and food vendors, would fill the air amid the background announcement of the train having arrived at ‘Mughalsarai’. “Somehow, the place, will now feel unfamiliar. I will miss it… I feel a part of my childhood memories has been robbed,” he told PTI. The historian alleged that for powers that may be, first the British names were a problem, and now anything that has a “Mughal or Islamic identity attached to it” from roads to parks.</p>

<p>Kolkata-based photographer and railway enthusiast Rajiv Soni, 65, recalled the Delhi Express that he used to catch from Calcutta that went via Mughalsarai and the “ceramic-made bowl-within-a-bowl” that he used to haggle for at the platform when the train halted. “All major trains, go via Mughalsarai. The trains were timed so precisely that one would reach for breakfast in Patna, lunch in Mughalsarai and tea in Kanpur. The renaming will now kill all those romantic memories and nostalgia. The renaming was totally unwarranted as Mughalsarai was a very innocuous name with no religious identity,” he rued. It was a landmark, transit point, and reference point for going to Benares or Mirzapur. The renaming doesn’t make any sense, Soni said.</p>

<p>Mughalsarai station was created as part of the Delhi-Howrah line laid in the 1860s and is one of the busiest railway stations of India with a large number of passenger and freight trains passing daily through it both ways. Its marshalling yard is also the longest in Asia. Initially part of the East Indian Railway (EIR) company, it is now part of the East Central Zone (ECR) zone of the Indian railways.</p>

<p>Architect and industrial heritage expert Moulshri Joshi slammed the renaming of the station, which she said, represented the “technological achievement” in the transport sector that that “we are proud of”. “It was built in the 1860s, when railways was still evolving and it has this beautiful long platform vault and one side has an ornate wrought-iron work too on the iron pillars. It is so much part of the public memory, more than transport heritage, a part of the cultural ethos,” she said.</p>

<p>“This rechristening has nothing but a political agenda, and the renaming amounts to erasing public memory associated with places, landmarks no less. It will also be loss of a railway heritage, as the new name will disguise so much of history, not to mention spawn confusion among people for a long period of time,” Joshi said. The architect, who has worked on projects to document industrial heritage of the country, asked, whether “deliberations and consultations” were done with experts and the public at large before taking such a “sweeping decision”.</p>

<p>Retired senior railway officer and former member of the Railway Board, Subodh Jain, said, Mughalsarai station is part of the iconic history of railways, and that name is a “very integral part” of it. “The junction has two lines emanating on both sides. Roughly 300 trains in total, passenger and freight ones, pass through in both ways. It has the largest marshalling yard in Asia, and therefore it is part of the railway heritage. And, heritage must be protected,” he said.</p>

<p>Vikas Dilawari, a Mumbai-based conservation architect, said the name may have been changed but its legacy will endure like the famous “VT station of Bombay”. “History should be left undisturbed and untampered. New buildings and new stations can be built to reflect memorialisation of a personality. Old places and names reflect the authentic intangible heritage of it,” he said.</p>

<p>Dilawari, however said, like the UNESCO World Heritage site Victoria Terminus (VT), Mughalsarai’s name too will linger on in public consciousness if not on paper. “Old-timers and locals and taxi drivers still call it VT, even though it was renamed twice, first to Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) and then Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT),” said Dilwari, who was part of the team that had prepared the dossier for VT’s UNESCO bid in 2003.</p>

<p>The party’s Delhi unit plans to invite top leaders such as Narendra Modi and Amit Shah to address the Purvanchali rally that will be the first in the series of the four mega-gatherings. The preparations have begun with contact programmes launched by the party.</p>

<p>“Under our ‘Sampark for Samarthan’ campaign, all senior leaders including Delhi unit chief Manoj Tiwari are meeting prominent people. The Yuva Morcha has galvanised its cadre through bike rallies in spreading the message about the government’s achievements, he added.</p>

Delhi BJP plans four mega rallies, one to woo Purvanchali voters

<p>Days after the government pledged to eliminate single-use plastic from the country by 2022, a green body said there should be stricter implementation of laws and big corporations should be held accountable for the plastic waste they produce.</p>

<p>“The Indian government has pledged to eradicate single- use plastic by 2022. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, we need to wait and how well the government is implementing it,” Greenpeace India said.</p>

<p>“We need to remember that protecting the environment is not about grand announcement or a one-day celebration, it’s about better regulations, stricter implementation of laws and about being a conscious citizen throughout the year,” Nandikesh Sivalingam, senior climate and energy campaigner at Greenpeace India, told PTI. During an event to celebrate World Environment Day on June 5, Union Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had pledged to eliminate single-use plastic by 2022.</p>

<p>“The government must hold big corporations accountable for the plastic waste they produce. The companies need to drastically reduce their plastic production and distribution and stop passing the onus of dealing with their plastic waste onto the end consumer,” Sivalingam said. “If the government is serious about a plastic-free India by 2022, it cannot just continue to frame laws and dilute them, like it has been doing in the past,” he said.</p>

<p>India played the global host to the World Environment Day that was themed ‘beat plastic pollution’. “In the recent past, we were disturbed by state violence in Tuticorin in which the major culprit was industrial pollution and systemic failures by the pollution control body to regulate,” Sivalingam said. “There is an urgent need to control pollution from the industries and the power sector to improve air, water and public health. We still have a long way to go,” Sivalingam said. He said Greenpeace was surprised that the government chose not to address the issue of air pollution, which is right now plaguing the country and has created a situation of national health emergency.</p>

<p>“The government must come up with the final National Clean air Action Plan (NCAP) and incorporate the recommendations of stakeholders and air pollution experts, who have given their inputs to the draft NCAP. The draft plan lacked time-bound implementation targets and had completely overlooked the implementation of emission norms for thermal power plants,” he said.</p>

<p>World Environment Day celebrations began pan-India and the events included cleanliness campaigns by state governments, cleaning of 24 beaches and 24 rivers in 19 states, making national parks and sanctuaries plastic free, media as well as social media campaigns and organising Envirothon mini-marathons in five other cities, besides Delhi.</p>

<p>“We expect that the government manages to retain the momentum of the proactiveness shown on World Environment Day. Or else World Environment Day will be reduced to a day of tokenism signifying big promises and little implementation whatsoever,” Sivalingam said.</p>

It sounds suicidal and there is a good chance that we might fail, but we feel that the party PB/CC must deliberate over our proposal. Targeting his road-shows could be an effective strategy. We collectively believe that survival of the party is supreme to all sacrifices".</p>

<p>Under two deals signed on the sidelines of the SCO summit on Saturday, China will share hydrological data on the Brahmaputra river and amend certain requirements on Indian exports of rice other than the premium Basmati variety to China, India's foreign ministry spokesman, Raveesh Kumar, said on Twitter.</p>

<p>India said last year that China had not stuck to an agreement to share hydrological data, or scientific information on the movement, distribution and quality of water for the Brahmaputra river. China had cited "technological" reasons.</p>

<p>New Delhi has also been concerned about the rising trade deficit with China, and has sought greater access to the world's second-largest economy for products such as rice, rapeseed, soybeans and sugar.</p>

<p>India's trade gap with China has widened to $51 billion, a nine-fold increase over the past decade.</p>

<p>The rice deal should help India finally crack the market in China, the world's biggest buyer of the commodity, traders said.</p>

<p>The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation estimates that China will buy 6.4 million tonnes of rice in 2018, while India will export a total of 11.9 million tonnes.</p>

<p>"Despite competitive prices, India was unable to export rice to China due to their phytosanitary norms," said a New Delhi based dealer with a global trading firm, referring to food standards as well as animal and plant hygiene.</p>

<p>"As the norms are going to change, India can easily export more than 1 million tonnes rice every year to China."</p>

<p>"Superstar Rajinikanth has spoken frankly with conscience... He has endorsed Chief Minister K Palaniswami's statement that anti-social elements had infiltrated the protesters,"it said,adding the actor's remarks were "welcome."</p>

<p>DMK and other opposition parties in Tamil Nadu, however, had lashed out at Rajinikanth for his anti-socials comment.</p>

It is a very congested area, so chances were that the fire could spread to neighbouring buildings as well. We are investigating the cause of the fire," Prabhat added.</p>

<p>The AAP government has called a special session of the Delhi Assembly to press its demand for full statehood to Delhi. Earlier this week, Deputy Chief Minister tabled a government resolution in this regard.&nbsp</p>

<p>Kejriwal is likely to speak on the issue in Delhi Assembly on Monday.</p>

<p>Sources said that the party will also hold a workers' convention in July on the issue of full statehood to Delhi.&nbsp</p>

<p>An AAP functionary said discussions will be held at tomorrow's meeting on a strategy to effective raise the issue of full statehood to the national capital.</p>

<p>As Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held next year, the chief minister, who is also the AAP's national convener, will also discuss poll strategy, another party leader said.</p>

<p>Earlier in the day, senior AAP leader Gopal Rai said that the Aam Aadmi Party will "expose the political opportunism" of both the BJP and Congress on the issue of full statehood for Delhi.</p>

<p>He said the ongoing Delhi Assembly session has "exposed the sudden U-turn" on statehood by the BJP and the Congress.</p>

<p>"BJP has made every attempt during the ongoing Assembly session to avoid discussion on the statehood issue," he told reporters here.</p>

<p>"It is beyond any reasonable understanding as to how the decades-old promise by BJP stalwarts -- former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and former deputy PM LK Advani -- has been suddenly junked by today's BJP," Rai said in a statement.&nbsp</p>

<p>The AAP is planning to strongly raise the statehood issue during Lok Sabha elections, party sources said.&nbsp</p>

<p>Alok Misra, the seventh rank holder in the Class 10 exams of the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board (UPSEB), was called to Lucknow on May 29 for a felicitation function and given a cheque of Rs 1 lakh by the chief minister for securing 93.5 per cent marks in the exams, the report added.</p>

<p>His father reportedly deposited the cheque in a bank in Lucknow on June 5 and was subsequently informed that it had bounced due to a mismatch of signatures. He was also made to pay the penalty for it.</p>

<p>The cheque presented to the student had the signature of Raj Kumar Yadav, District Inspector of Schools, Barabanki.</p>

<p>"I was very happy to receive the cheque from the chief minister...But came to know that it had bounced two days after it was deposited...It led to some disappointment," Alok, a student of Young Stream Inter College, said.</p>

<p>When contacted, Yadav said the student was given another cheque and the matter resolved. No other student had come up with a similar complaint, he added.</p>

<p>Terming the matter "serious", District Magistrate Uday Bhanu Tripathi said action would be taken if any laxity was found.&nbsp</p>
