National carrier Air India (AI) is facing mass resignation by the pilots as they are unhappy with their salary and promotion.

Around 120 Airbus A-320 pilots tendered their resignation after their demands pertaining to the salary hike and promotion were not paid heed to by the AI management.

This came in the backdrop of the Central government's decision to initiate the process of divestment of Air India's stake, which has a debt of over Rs 60,000 crore.

Speaking to ANI, a pilot who had recently resigned, said, "AI management should listen to our grievances. Our demand regarding salary hike and promotion is long pending before them but they have failed to give a strong assurance."

He added that the pilots are staring in the face of the adversity as they have to pay back hefty loans. "Even we pilots are not able to withdraw our salary on time," he said.

The pilots are first hired on the contractual basis for five years with a low salary, he claimed, adding that they were hopeful of getting a salary hike and promotion as they gain experience, but to no avail.

The disgruntled pilots are sure that they will get a job somewhere else as the market is currently open. As of now, IndigoAir, GoAir, Vistara and Air Asia, Indian airlines are operating Airbus A-320 flights.

On being asked if the operations of the national carrier will suffer due to the mass resignation, the Air India spokesperson said that it has surplus pilots. "AI operation will not suffer at any cost, due to resignation," the spokesperson added.

At present, Air India has a total of 2000 pilots out of which 400 are executive.

We have also tried our best to ensure normalcy in the area, amidst all the negative powers in and around the area," he said while addressing a public meeting in Jalgaon ahead of Assembly elections in Maharashtra.

"Can these leaders, who are trying to fool the people with their crocodile tears, bring back Article 370 in Kashmir? Will the people of India allow them to? Will the people of India accept it?," he questioned while addressing a public rally.

He also took veiled dig at NCP chief Sharad Pawar saying, "I was shocked to see a video in which a prominent leader who has been on TV and newspapers for years got angry and hit a man with his elbow who was sitting next to him stage and while he was being garlanded he tried to put his head in the garland. Just think that the people who hit his own party member for trying to take a photo just think what will he do with the general public."

Postpaid mobile services in Jammu and Kashmir will be functional from Monday.

"Having reviewed the situation, a decision has now been taken to restore mobile phone services in the remaining areas of Jammu and Kashmir. All postpaid mobile services, irrespective of the telecom operator will stand restored and be functional from 12 noon, Monday, 14 October 2019. This will cover all 10 districts of Kashmir province," Rohit Kansal, Principal Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir said on Saturday.

Mobile network and landlines connections were suspended across Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, in view of security concerns in the region following Centre's decision to abrogate Article 370.

Although the landline network was restored in phases, restrictions remained on the usage of mobile devices in various parts of the Kashmir Valley.

The decision to restore mobile phone services comes days after Jammu and Kashmir Governor announced the withdrawal of security advisory for tourists from October 10.

The administration had also said that tourists desirous of visiting the region will be provided with the necessary assistance and logistic support.

As normalcy started returning, postpaid mobile phone services were resumed in five districts- Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Rajouri and Poonch- of the Jammu region on August 29.

On September 12, Kansal had said that a considerable number of mobiles were functional in Kupwarra and Handwara.

The government had time and again reiterated that restrictions on mobile services were imposed in the valley to prevent misuse of these services for flaring tensions.

Governor Satya Pal Malik had said that the curb has been imposed as these facilities were abused as "a weapon" against the country and mostly exploited by terrorists to mobilise the people.

"There is much hullabaloo over the absence of telephone facilities. I want to say that people should wait for 10 more days. For us every life is important. Please try to understand the reasons behind these restrictions. Who uses phones and the internet? It is of little use for us but is mostly exploited by terrorists and Pakistanis," Malik had said.

The Central government had on August 5 abrogated Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and also bifurcated the state into Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Shaikh, under the leadership of Municipal Superintendent of Police, Civil Line Trilok Bansal (IPS) Raipur Police and ATS special team made the arrest and brought him to Raipur. The SIMI operative, is said to be part of a sleeper cell and had allegedly given shelter to the accused in the Bodhgaya and Patna bomb blasts, will be produced in the court today and the probe agencies will seek a two-day police remand. One passport, two driving licenses, a voting pass and a voter identity card has been seized from the possession of the accused, the police officer said. A Tibetan monk and a tourist were injured in the 2013 blast that took place when a large number of devotees had gathered near the sacred Bodhi tree for morning prayers. As many as nine blasts took place within a span of 30 minutes which rocked the sacred city of Bodh Gaya, marking the first terrorist attack on the soil of Bihar. Not only that, but the terrorists had also planted a cylinder bomb under the Bodhi tree as well which fortunately did not explode. In October 2013, there were crude bomb explosions in Patna before Narendra Modi arrived to address thousands of supporters and launch his party`s campaign for the national election. A total of 17 were arrested in connection with the Bodhgaya and Patna blasts and Azharuddin had been absconding, police said.

In the presence of senior leaders like RS Choudhry, INLD`s state unit president Birbal Dass Dhalia released the manifesto. The party has promised a monthly unemployment allowance of Rs 15,000 for the youths of the state.

He said the INLD would work for the implementation of the Swaminathan Commission`s recommendations regarding the MSP for the crops of farmers. The party also promised to waive off farm loans up to Rs 10 lakh on a priority basis.

"In addition, this loan waiver up to Rs 10 lakh will also be extended to small traders to enable them to come out of the prolonged period of economic slump faced by them," said Dhalia.

Another reform in the agricultural sector proposed by the party is the withdrawal of GST imposed on tractors, agricultural implements, seeds, fertilisers, and pesticides.

INLD also announced that females from economically weaker sections will be given Rs 5 lakh by the state government during their marriage as `Kanyadaan`.

"The girls will also be provided with free education up to their higher education. A monthly allowance of Rs 2,000 will be given to the poor women between the age of 35 and 65 years," he said.

Dismissing concerns about economic slowdown, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday cited the earnings of three movies on October 2, saying they collectively earned Rs 120 crore in a day and hence the economy of the country is "sound".

Addressing a press conference, Prasad said, "On October 2, three movies were released. Film trade analyst Komal Nahta had said that the day saw earning of over Rs 120 crore, a record by the three movies. The economy of the country is sound. That is why there is a return of Rs 120 crore in a day."

"I was the Information and Broadcasting Minister in the then Atal Bihari Vajpayee`s government. I am fond of movies. There has been a huge business of movies," he added.

The economic growth slowed to a seven-year low to 5 per cent in April as compared to 8 per cent in June quarter a year ago, as per the government data.

The slowdown was largely due to a sharp dip in the manufacturing sector and agriculture output, the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation had said in a statement.

The Union Minister termed the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) report as "false".

"That report is false. I gave you 10 relevant data, not one is present in the report. We never said we will give government jobs to everyone. Few people tried to mislead in a planned fashion," said Prasad.

In May, the Centre had made public the NSSO`s Periodic Labour Force Survey report that placed the unemployment rate at 6.1 per cent for the year 2017-18, the highest in 45 years.

The report placed the unemployment rate among men at 6.2 per cent and women at 5.7 per cent, combining both rural and urban areas and the overall rate at 6.1 per cent.

Prasad said that Maharashtra government led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis completed his five-year term and stated that the people of the state respect their leaders.

"Fadnavis has successfully completed his term of five years. This clearly states that the people of the state respect their leader as the BJP has a culture of respecting the leader who heads the state. Fadnavis has a clean image. It is a big achievement," said the Union Minister.

Making a veiled reference to P Chidambaram, who served as the then Home Minister when the 26/11 attacks took place, Prasad said, "In 2008, there was an attack in Mumbai and both the Centre and the state governments at that time were so helpless. The Home Minister at that time said `Sorry Mumbai` and he is in jail now."

"Today nobody has the guts to attack Mumbai or Maharashtra. They know if they carry out an attack, they will have to pay a very heavy cost," he said while reiterating the Centre`s resolve of zero tolerance against terror.

BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday slammed Congress for promising loan waivers to farmers of Haryana in the party`s manifesto after it had failed to implement it in Madhya Pradesh and two other states.

"It is the height of shamelessness. Rahul Gandhiji had himself said that Congress will waive off all loans of farmers under 10 days otherwise we will change the chief minister, 10 months have passed, but the loans have not been waived off here. And they are promising the same in Haryana this time, there is a limit even for lies," Chouhan told ANI here.

Further accusing the Kamal Nath government of failing to help the farmers he said, "The farmers are in anguish, many people became defaulters and many of those are now committing suicide. There is a limit even on speaking lies, how much more can the Congress deceive the people."

Urging Congress to apologise to the farmers whom they had troubled through their hollow promises made in the past, Chouhan said, "Congress has become a thug party now. They should apologize for not waiving off farm loans in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and they should stop making such promises in the future, the people are not going to be deceived by them anymore."

Earlier today, Chief Minister Kamal Nath had said his party colleague Jyotiraditya Scindia was correct in claiming that farm loan of only up to Rs 50,000 has been waived off so far but he promised that his government will waive off farm loans up to Rs 2 lakh in due course of time.

"He (Scindia) is right. We had said we will waive off Rs 50,000 farm loan in the first instalment. Next, we will waive off up to Rs 2 lakh. I agree that to have promised Rs 2 lakh farm loan waiver. I believe the public trust their leader," Chief Minister Nath told reporters here.

The Chief Minister, however, said that suggestions for improvement are welcome, but one should first know the facts and truths, which are in front of the people.

"The farm loans have not been waived off in totality. Loan of only Rs 50,000 has been waived off even when we had promised that loan up to Rs 2 Lakh will be waived," Scindia had said earlier.

"The loans should be waived off completely," he had added.

Reacting to both Scindia and Digvijaya Singh`s statements, who had pointed towards cattle being on the loose in the roads of the state, Chouhan said that it seemed like an attempt to put pressure on the Chief Minister.

"Both Digvijaya and Scindiaji can meet the chief minister anytime and give him suggestions. This tweeting and commenting is a way to pressurise him so that he will be forced to do what they want," Chouhan said.

India and China agreed to continue the positive momentum as two countries wrapped up the second edition of informal summit in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu with the big takeaway being trade.

India and China agreed to continue the positive momentum as two countries wrapped up the second edition of informal summit in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu with the big takeaway being trade. Both PM Modi and President Xi Jinping agreed that since Wuhan, the strategic communication between the two countries has deepened and both sides agreed that the informal summit would continue. Modi and Xi spent six hours together during 24 hours the Chinese president was in India. PM said, "Wuhan summit had provided new momentum and thrust and Chennai connect will start a new era of cooperation between the two countries". Modi further said that differences will be "prudently managed" so that they don't become disputes and take care of "each other concerns and sensitivities" Chinese President Xi called "informal summit a good idea" and Wuhan informal summit last year ushered in "new age of health and steady development" and "it continues to produce visible progress..by deeper strategic communication and effective practice cooperation and more diverse people to people and cultural exchanges". "It was a right decision to have informal summit" and we can "continue with this form of meeting," he added. Xi said on Friday he had "heart to heart discussion on bilateral relation" with PM Modi like "friends" and Beijing aims "to maintain and grow India-China relation". The Chinese president said he is "overwhelmed" by India's hospitality and "really feel the sincere welcome" which will be a "memorable experience". Terror was the other big focus. " Both Leaders are concerned that terrorism continues to pose a common threat" and "As countries that are large and diverse, they recognized the importance of continuing to make joint efforts to ensure that the international community strengthens the framework against training, financing and supporting terrorist groups throughout the world and on a non-discriminatory basis," said a press release issued by India stated. The revocation of special status for the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir was neither raised nor discussed by either side. Modi called for balanced trade pact on Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the 16-member free trade agreement to which the Chinese President retort was ''New Delhi's concerns will be taken care of''. As part of Confidence Building Measures (CBMs), India's defence minister will be soon going to China. As part of people to people contact, two leaders agreed on the establishment of sister-state relations between Tamil Nadu and Fujian Province, exploring the possibility of establishing an academy to study links between Mahabalipuram and Fujian province. Both countries celebrate 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year and will organise 70 activities including a conference on a ship voyage that will trace the historical connection between the two civilizations. The third informal summit will take place in China.

Over 2,000 youth from three districts of south Kashmir turned up on the first day of Indian army recruitment drive in Srinagar on Saturday.

The youth who applied for around 110 vacancies included boys from terrorism prone areas.

Since morning, long queues were seen outside JKLI Regimental centre Srinagar where Jammu and Kashmir police were deployed to help the Indian army manage the crowd. Some youth said that they spent their night in rented cars, outside the army centre to get in first.

Among the youth is Haseeb Bashir, a resident of Kulgam, who lost his father in a terror attack Srigufwara in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district in 1995, when terrorism was on its peak in the state.

“Like my father died for the country, I want to serve too. I never saw my father and I could just study till 10th standard as I had to run my family which includes two sisters and mother,” said Haseeb adding that his father was associated with 3 Rashtriya Rifles, a counter-insurgency force operating in Jammu and Kashmir.

Most of the youth also say that they want to join the army due to unemployment and lack of opportunities in the valley.

“I am also afraid due to the situation but because we don’t have work, so I want to ask other unemployed youth to join the army,” says Umar, who didn’t wish to disclose his village or district, fearing a backlash.

The Indian army says that they are overwhelmed by the response of south Kashmir youth.
“We carried out same recruitment in 2016 and 2017 and usually we wouldn’t get more then 800 candidates. Today, more than 2000 candidates have come in,” said RR Singh, who was overlooking the recruitment rally.

The rally for the recruitment into 162 infantry battalion will continue till October 21 and numbers are expected to grow.
